The ladies at the front desk had me checked in within record time. Because I had already completed my paperwork, things went smoothly. I was then ushered to a large, lovely seating area, where many other patients were waiting. The office is massive, containing several doctors, as well as a vision center to pick out eyewear and procedure rooms. My technician and doctor were absolutely wonderful. Initially, the tech took a thorough history and did some tests. She was very pleasant, moved with intention, but not rushed. She was communicative, but not chatty (IYKYK), and had me very impressed. I was well-handled and wondered what was left for anyone else to do. Lol When the doctor arrived, he was even more thorough than the technician. He double-checked her work, then began a discussion with me about my eyes and their health. He did some more evaluation and put me at ease. I remember thinking, "This place is amazing!" At the end, he gave me advice and then said, "That's it," with the most amazingly warm smile I had seen in a while. It was genuine and read like he really enjoyed his job. I mean, WOW. That did it for me, folks. I had already been impressed by the place, but the smile sold me on GO. I am a patient for life! Greensboro Ophthalmology is officially Kiesha Speech approved. Medicare patients BEWARE!!!…read more When the person from Groat called me to schedule an appointment, (I never contacted THEM) I told them I had a perfect experience with Oscar Oglethorpe over a year earlier who assured me medicare would pay for everything in terms of my eye exam and it was true, medicare did. The person who set me appointment with Groat assured me that Medicare would pay for everything. I asked are you sure? They said "absolutely." So I went along with it. When I showed up for the appointment I asked the receptionist, "Will Medicare pay for everything?" I was told yes they would. When I saw the first person in the exam room I said, "Don't do anything Medicare won't pay for." Then a few weeks later I get a bill from Groat for $166.00!! To top it off the prescription wasn't complete so I couldn't use it to get glasses! Very untrustworthy!

I paid $400 for glass frames that cost $175 at Costco.

After 2-3 minutes, I was called & then asked to sit down again so my insurance could be confirmed. It was eventually confirmed, and though my appointment time was at 10:40 and I arrived at 10:30, I was finally called back for intake about 30 minutes after my arrival. A young woman performed some initial tests & asked me a few questions. She checked my eyes and then led me to a waiting area where I waited for what felt like a VERY long time. I was brought back to a room by another young woman who ran a couple more tests, then led me to a different waiting area. I waited there for probably 20 minutes. Then I finally got to see the doctor, over an hour and 20 minutes after my appointment time. The doctor was helpful and gave me some suggestions about my contact options and information about my eye health. I feel her quality of care was very thorough. However, I was left waiting for 10 minutes or so for her to return after asking me to put in a new pair of contacts. When it was time to leave, I was asked to sit in the waiting area so I could be called to the front desk to pay. It's clear this clinic is understaffed for the amount of clients they have. However, I will return next year for my next eye exam since they take my insurance and they're not far from my home.

I have noticed a wait, but I also notice it seems the length of our appointments vary as to how much they have to check "does 1 or 2 look better". So I kind of figured that is why there is a wait. When I do have questions, he answers them respectfully. Over the years I've had to call several times to get copies of prescriptions and no issues from the front desk in getting that. I haven't had any scheduling issues. I don't use the eye center next to their office, so I can't speak to how they are.

The initial reason I left, was bc he diagnosed my child with an eye disease and when l asked questions about it, he wrote down the name and told me "Google It" it was at that point I started going to UNC. Well, last year I went back to Dr Spencer for a service he did NOT render. I made an appointment with Dr Spencer for a contact prescription and I was very specific. My son wore contacts in, it wasn't until I went to fill the prescription that I was told it was for glasses. This year, I made another appointment specifying once again CONTACTS because the last was incorrect. The day of the appointment of course he walks in and doesn't speak, starts the exam, mumbling. I allow him to do what he needs and how, he is the doctor. I did mention, this is for a contact exam. He then became a bit rude. Stressing the $75 Medicaid would NOT cover I responded that is fine. He then went on to tell me Medicaid will NOT pay for his contacts! YOU will have to figure that out. Ok, l responded. He then tells my son to go sit next to me and says.. YOU will pay $75 and go to MY people across the hall and be fitted.. then you will come back to me 2 more visits, I will check his eyes again.. at that point I will decide whether or not "|" will write a prescription. I asked if this is not his first pair and he has been wearing them for several years now, why is he being treated as a first time lens wearer. He then asked where I got the first prescription and I advised UNC and he asked abt the others, I responded UNC..he asked where l purchased my lenses and I told him...l then asked, with this procedure, how long does the actual process take before he will receive his lenses and the DOCTOR MICHAEL ANTONIO SPENCER responded "As long as it does" | asked again is it days? Weeks? He then goes on a rampage about how he doesn't have anything to do with contacts..... l added however, you are sending me to a place you said was the only place i could go. He then says to me, the man that never speaks, yet, in front of my child can yell "GET OUT! I DONT NEED YOUR MONEY!" And he stormed out of the office standing outside of the door pouting. What a tantrum to throw because he feels he takes every insurance so he can speak to parents in front of their children that way or even act so strangely. This is NOT a safe place for children! The staff was extremely friendly, the waiting area was full of kid friendly toys and books, the nurses was great with my daughter, and they even had K-love playing on the radio which was a HUGE bonus for me. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Young was a complete 180 degree change for the worst. Any parent knows that with 2 year olds and doctors don't mix, so when Dr. Young come in to examine my daughter's eyes, she pitched a catastrophic fit. But instead of having a nurse there to help me told her down, I was expected to do it by myself. I was told to hold her head with 1 hand, her arms with another, and her legs with my legs. After 5 minutes I was sweating, my daughter had turned completely red and was also sweating from fighting me so hard. Because I was unable to hold her I was told by Dr. Young..."I know you think you're helping her by not holding her tight, but you're not. You're making this take longer." I told him that it wasn't that I wasn't holding her purposely, I was physically not capable of holding her by myself. Then he finally decided to bring in the nurse to help me. Never have I taken my daughter to the doctor and they not had someone there to help me hold her. After the exam I was physically exhausted and my daughter was extremely cranky because our appointment was at 7:45am and we were not seen until 9am. Before telling me whether or not there was something wrong with my child's eyes/vision, he proceeded to dictate with me there. I had been there for over an hour, I was late for work, my daughter was cranky, yet I had to sit there while he dictated his doctor's notes on my time. Then after he was done, he finally decided to tell me his diagnosis which was that my daughter was blinking repetitively and constantly rubbing her eye because she has a nervous tick from stress. Really? My 2 year old daughter who is completely healthy except for a recent blinking and rubbing of her eye, and who is just getting over a stye under her eyelid which is why the pediatrician referred her to begin with, is now so stressed out that she is blinking repetitively. Unbelievable. I was completely flabbergasted. I am not upset about the diagnosis, I am upset about the way that I was treated. I frequently get misjudged because I am African American and I look like a teenager. Doctors tend to look at me and judge me as the poor single teenage mom even though I am 29 and have been married for 7 years, but this took the cake. I was treated like a crazy mom who was wasting his precious time, not at all as a concerned parent and paying customer who just wants to make sure that my daughter was ok. I was talked to with no respect, I was scolded for not being able to hold by daughter down, my time was completely disregarded and my concerns dismissed. For a pediatric dentist, this doctor did not seem to be good with children at all. He seemed to care only about getting the exam over with, and not about addressing my concerns, or making my daughter feel comfortable. I will NEVER come back to him. They will charge another $185 ( or more) to do contact lenses trial and exam. I was told by another eye care company that I wasn't a fit for contacts, but this doc at Battleground assured me I was. I tried 2 different pairs when I first got started and they didn't work. I kinda gave up but also had other concerns( back surgery) that were more pressing. I think the doctor made a bad choice saying I was able to use contact lenses and now I dont know what to think since they never gave me the full year that I paid for. Very disappointed.

LIFETIME "WARRANTY" IS A COMPLETE LIE!…read more I had Lasik at a TLC Eye Center a few years ago and was given paperwork that assured that the huge fee paid included a "lifetime warranty good at any TLC Laser Eye Center in the country" as long as I kept up the yearly eye appointments. Each year, my TLC-network optometrists have assured me that is still an option for me (3 optometrists in 3 locations) and that I can just go to the Greensboro location now. I call to schedule the consult for the revision the optometrist recommended--that she told me I was eligible for under the warranty--and they tell me I have to be entered as a "new patient" and RE-PAY all the VERY HEFTY FEES because the location I was at originally closed and they refuse to honor the warranty. I got Lasik so I wouldn't have to wear glasses and pay for contacts, and two years out, I'm back wearing both and they absolutely REFUSE to even consider honoring the warranty.

The one thing that could change for me is the fact that they don't need to check my insurance card every time I walk through the doors even when it's the very next day but I do understand why this is their practice and won't count it against them. The wait is shorter than an other doctor office I have been to however I still believe that could be shortened. I see Dr. Mitchell and he's great. He is a non-joking, straight to the point doctor which is what I want. I also don't care for a doctor that is just going to hold a conversation so I feel comfortable around him. He's my doctor and I don't need to know his family issues or dealings, I want to know about my health and let's move on to the next thing. This is the type of doctor Dr. Mitchell seems to be and I truly appreciate that. The exit is also painless and quick. The staff here is the most friendliest doctor office staff I have ever had to deal with and I believe it's because they love where they work and why wouldn't they? I love to call it my doctors office.
