I'm honesty very disappointed with Oman Eyecare. When I first started going there many years ago, they were extremely friendly and I never had any billing issues. However, on 2 of the last 3 visits, I've had charge disputes which came as unnecessary surprises. When I established this latest appointment, I made it perfectly clear that I expected this visit to be covered by my insurance at no charge (since I had a previous problem with them in this regard, I wanted to make sure there was no misunderstanding). The person on the line confirmed they had my current insurance information on file, and that there would be no charge. They also acknowledged that their records indicated I visited Duke University Eye Center every year for a diagnostic eye exam, so the visit to Oman would be related to my optical Rx. Again, given a past billing issue with them, when I arrived for my appointment, I made it a point of mentioning to the desk person that my visit was to be at no charge. I confirmed the same information about going to Duke Eye Center every year. No questions or issues were raised about anything I said. Honestly, if they had mentioned there would be a charge for just having a portion of the exam performed (I didn't need Oman to replicate what I had done by Duke Eye Center a couple months prior), I would have had the entire exam done or chose to leave. The person who initially examined me had the personality of a dead fish. Totally unfriendly, disengaged, and seemed as if she would have liked to be anyplace else. Subsequently, I saw the optometrist, he went through the vision procedure, and I proceeded to the front desk to check out. All I expected was to be handed my prescription. I indicated I'd be back to visit their optical shop later, since I wanted my wife with me to choose a frame. At that point, the desk person indicated that my charge is $54. I told them that this visit was to be at no charge, as is noted on my insurance card for in-network providers like Oman. I also stated that this had been previously confirmed by them. I then got fed some nonsense about not having the "complete exam," so I had to pay for the refractory (determining the vision Rx) portion. Now, mind you, the "complete exam" INCLUDES the refractory portion. If I had been told this upfront, I would have gone through the complete exam, even though it was entirely unnecessary, or just left. Obviously, there was no question from the onset as to why I scheduled an appointment with them or that my expectation was that their service would be without charge to me. Long story short is that I didn't pay them, they stated they'd submit a claim to Humana's EyeMed Vision anyway, and I walked out of there without my Rx. In essence, the visit was an entire waste of my time. It's now been 2-1/2 weeks, and I've heard nothing from them whatsoever. So, I guess I just don't get my Rx prescription or even know what they've done with the claim. Overall, it was an entirely negative experience. I place the blame on them for poor communication, having individuals on their staff who apparently don't care about friendly interactions with their patients, and for seemingly trying to bill for services where a patient had clearly communicated their expectations otherwise. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Oman Eye Care! As a patient for over 1.5 years, I have consistently received the utmost courtesy and professionalism. They offer one-on-one, top-notch professional care--no "virtual visits" with a doctor on a monitor hundreds of miles away. They ensure your glasses fit perfectly and provide personalized service. Take care of yourself; spend a few extra dollars if necessary. Your eyesight is worth it. After insurance, my total cost was about $450 and that included about $30 in taxes. That is not "cheap" but it is "priceless". Consider what I got: a complete eye exam, including retinal scans (essential for my early-onset macular degeneration), frames I loved that just happened to be within my $150 insurance allowance, progressive lenses that transition to sunglasses outdoors, all the premium coatings, and they were professionally fit for me, so they don't slide down nose. My previous glasses were from MyEyeLab, where I never saw an optometrist in person--it was all "virtual." Until today, I was VIRTUALLY blind. My eyesight will never be perfect, but I nearly cried when I put on my new glasses and saw my vision tested between 20/30 or 20/40! DONT DO BUSINESS HERE. DAMAGED MY GLASSES. Went in for a SIMPLE eye exam. My stigmatized is a sever case and I value the use of my glasses daily in order to do my job. They cleaned my glasses (my property) and messed up the lenses from heatinf them to fit the frames they broke. 8 days now I hav no way to see my screen. I am inable to perform my job. They refused to fix my glasses and Sandy the manager yelled at me and threatened to send me a letter to discontinue my relationship with the practice. She then slammed the phone down on me. I have been in 3 times and twice they have told me while there face to face that they would do the right thing and replace my lenses only t9 have a manager or someone else tell me differently. My personal property has been damaged. Stay awa from this place. They only embrace excuses, not solutions. read more

I would love to be able to leave a wonderful review for this office, but unfortunately I cannot based on my experience or lack thereof. I had a list of eye doctors that I was referred to for specialty contacts. Off the list this is who I chose. I tried calling them every day last week and was unable to reach anyone. I believe that I left 2 voicemails and have not seen a missed call from them or a voicemail from a missed call from them. I was out at a doctors appointment last Thursday so I decided to stop by and make an appointment in person. I was told the office manager who schedules those appointments wasn't in yet, but they took my information and said they'd have her call me. That was last Thursday and today is now Wednesday. Still no phone call and no voicemail. I unfortunately had to move to the next doctor on the list to make an appointment. Luckily I was able to reach them and set it up over the phone, with just one phone call. I understand maybe my voicemail was cut off, maybe the message was choppy, but my information was passed along, or so I was told, but I still haven't received a call. I'm a little disappointed, but that was a bad first impression. read more

The staff and doctors at Oman are nothing short of fantastic. It is not easy to write a rave review about a doctors office - especially an eye doctor. As a long-time glasses and contact wearer (i've been a "four-eyes" since first grade), i've been to numerous eye doctors in several different states. These pre-Oman experiences ranged from "Hey, that wasn't too bad" to "If this condescending chauvenist says one more word, I may need bail money..." As such, I do NOT give 5 stars lightly here. Dr. Johnson is a wonderful, down-to-earth eye care professional who really knows her field and works hard to find the perfect prescription for your eyes. I was impressed that she put so much time and thought into my initial exam and made some very helpful eye health recommendations. I have been back twice since 2012 and have taken my disabled/blind Mom to Dr. Johnson as well. Mom was treated with just as much care and respect as I was. If you are looking for an eye doctor in the Greensboro area, you really can't go wrong with Oman Eye Care & Dr. Johnson. Edit: It is worth noting that while the eye care professionals at Oman are wonderful and well-worth supporting, the glasses selection there, while high quality, is on the pricey side. If you are a poor post-graduate student like myself, you may want to check out Oscar Oglethorpe in downtown GSO for affordable, trendy glasses. I also swear by the price matching at 1-800-Contacts for those in a similar budget crunch. Just being honest here. read more

The staff are very friendly. The 2 star rating is due to the communication over filing claims with insurance. We pay for vision insurance and when I made an appt for my diabetic husband I told them on the phone that he is supposed to have a $20 copay for his check up. I was not informed that this office refuses to file the VSP insurance and we now have a bill for $231!!! This is ridiculous and unacceptable. Insurance seems so corrupt. The people answering the phones at the office need to be better trained to explain this information better so people don't end up with bills 12x the amount they should have to pay. Also, I was informed that the doctors refuse to give anything but daily contact lenses to new wearers. Shouldn't that be that decision of the customer? Luckily there were lot of rebates to bring the cost down, but we should not be forced into buying more expensive products with no choice. Maybe they get bigger kickbacks for some things?? read more

Very disappointing experience. My medical insurance does not cover routine eye exams yet they insisted on making a copy of my insurance card. I paid with a credit card but they still filed with my insurance company and caused a huge mess for me to have straighten out. To top it off, I priced glasses at their optic store and they wanted nearly $800. I got similar glasses elsewhere for $275. read more

Dr. Oman and her team are wonderful. It's rare to find a medical provider who cares about the "customer" experience they are providing a patient, but Oman eye care recognizes there are many choices out there and even though they already provide truly top-notch patient care, they also want patients to feel valued and appreciated. Dr. Oman counseled me on LASIK options several years ago after I'd been wearing glasses for about 25 years. She helped me feel confident in my decision to have the procedure done and the results were great. She also took the time to help me understand the importance of regular exams since, and overall eye health. It's much more that just reading from a chart when you visit her office. She also was able to detect the underlying cause of some vision problems my husband has had for many years and took steps to help him overcome the problem (other eye doctors had just tried to solve those problems with glasses he didn't really need). I love a doctor who stays on top of modern research and understands the real-life concerns patients have when it comes to their specialty. She is definitely this type of doctor! First the actual doctors And clinical staff are friendly and provided acceptable care. My issue is solely with the billing department. When attending an annual exam I was informed they had mess up my scheduled appointment and I would have to rebook. Even though I had adjusted my work schedule for this appointment with little question I rebooked and attended the rescheduled day for my exam. A few weeks later I received a bill for the entire amount of my visit, as though it had not been billed to my insurance company. After calling and leaving a message three times with their "billing department" with no response I finally called to "make an appointment" in an attempt to resolve the billing issue. It was discovered that they had incorrectly billed the year priors visit and needed to correct that day and resubmit the most recent claim, which I was assured they would handle. A week later I received the exact same bail threatening to turn me into a collection agency. I called back, left several messages and after re-explaining was told they would call my insurance. I assumed it was handled until about a month later I received yet again the same bill stating I needed to call my insurance company. I did, within 2 minutes I was speaking with a person, they understood the issue and offered to call Oman to resolve the issue. I was called by about 10 minutes later and told the insurance left a message and would try to call back in a hour as they could not reach anyone. I assumed yet again the issue would be resolved only to discover, perched in my mailbox was the exact same bill with a message "now you can pay online". I attempted to call the office one again but as I have grown accustom to...I had to leave a message which I have very little expectation of actually getting a call back. read more
