This is a great place to come with kids to go fishing. There's a lot of parking (most days unless it's a holiday or if there are a lot of tourists going on boat tours). Bring a whipping rod, bait, water bottle and a folding chair, and you're all set! We've been able to get to know the regulars and ask them what they are using for tackle and bait. The regulars (the real fishermen) know what time to come (based on time of day, weather, tides), we just go anytime of day, whenever we have free time. Many times the fishermen aren't there, so we know that we probably won't catch anything if they aren't on the dock fishing that day. It can get windy and chilly at times, and other times there's no breeze and very hot. Be prepared for various weather conditions and pack a rain jacket, sunscreen, big brimmed hat and sunglasses. There is a plate lunch place on the pier if you get hungry and a public restroom near the entrance of the large parking lot. You can pick up bait at Foodland in Windward City Shopping Center and fishing supplies at Nanko. See ya at the pier.

Sometimes you just gotta get away and clear your mind. If you live on the Windward side like me, this might be a convenient place to go! I like Ala Moana and the Honolulu beaches, but the drive is a bit of a hassle. Then there's the parking and the traffic and crowds... so, just go to He'eia Kea Boat Harbor and take a stroll! It's kind of different because it's all paved. On the left side, there is a sandy beach where the Kaneohe Canoe Club houses their canoes. On the left side and straight ahead, there are quite a few boats docked. Towards the back, there's a deli and store. At the end of that area, fishing looks like a popular activity. I just like to sit and listen to the calming rhythm of the water as it meets the man-made structures. The "pier" is much smaller than the one in Santa Monica, California! Our little dock is very plain and simple in comparison! Just take a look at the majestic mountains - you can even see Chinaman's Hat in the distance! The vast ocean absorbs all of our troubles... The gentle, cool breeze and fresh air help to brush away stress and all is better in the world...

First off, you do need someone to sponsor you on base if you don't have a military ID since the boat harbor is located on base. Secondly, to rent the boat, someone in your party needs to get their boat license. Prior to the pandemic, they allowed 12 passengers on each boat but, have now cut it down to 10 ppl. It's $180 to rent the boat for a total of 4 hours from dock to dock. The times are 8am-12pm and 1pm-4pm. Once checked in, you will be given a quick review on how to operate the boat, directions on how to get to the sandbar. Once everyone and everything is loaded on, you're free to go!! Things to pack: sunscreen, snacks, lunch, water/drinks, floaties, and any other water toys you'd like to play with! You can even bring your furry friend(s) if you want! The one thing you CANNOT bring is alcohol. If you are caught with alcohol on the boat, the person with the boat license WILL lose their boat license for life! Pro tip: there are air compressors available for you to use to blow up your floaties and life jackets you can borrow for children. They also have wagons to haul your stuff between the dock and boat. Once out there, there's many other boats and places to anchor. Just make sure you are at least 20 feet away from the next boat. The water level depends on the time of day and year. There were a couple times I've gone and the sand is literally out of the water, most times it was a couple to a few feet deep. You should start packing up and heading back to the marina around 30 minutes before the end of your time frame to ensure you get back in time. Once in the marina, an MWR worker will flag you down and guide you in to your final destination. Overall, it's always a treat to be able to go to the sandbar with friends and/or family!

DO NOT BOOK THROUGH HAWAII ACTIVITIES/VELTRA…read more.. Unfortunately, we never even got the opportunity to experience the actual Captain Bob's Sandbar tour because the transportation and communication were handled so poorly. We were visiting Oahu for my mom's birthday and specifically planned this tour as one of our major activities. After having an issue with the pickup instructions the first time, we rescheduled for the following day. Our rescheduled pickup was around 9:45 AM.. Before the pickup, Captain Bob's CALLED ME and told me that the driver was going to be late. I appreciated the notification and, because I had specifically been told there would be a delay, I went back inside the hotel while we waited. At approximately 10:02 AM, I received a call telling me the driver was now outside. I immediately started making my way outside. By approximately 10:07 AM, the driver was already GONE.The crazy part was that I will still willingly to pay for an uber and transport myself. I have the call logs showing these times. & find this completely unreasonable. DIABOLICAL behavior. Your company can call a customer and ask them to accommodate YOUR delay, but when the driver finally arrives, the customer gets approximately five minutes after being notified before the driver leaves? We are tourists. We do not live here. We are unfamiliar with the pickup areas and were relying on the company to provide clear instructions and communication. If your transportation is already running behind schedule, giving customers only a few minutes after calling them to get outside is unacceptable. Had we simply shown up late for a clearly communicated pickup time, I would understand the company leaving. That is not what happened here. We were specifically told YOUR DRIVER WAS RUNNING LATE. We adjusted our plans based on the information your company gave us. I also want to be clear that my complaint is not about the boat crew or the actual Sandbar experience because unfortunately we never got the opportunity to experience it. This review is specifically about the transportation, communication, and customer service surrounding our reservation. We spent a significant amount of money on this tour for our family and planned it around my mom's birthday. Instead, we were left extremely disappointed and scrambling to find something else to do for her birthday. I understand that tour companies have schedules to maintain. I also understand that traffic and delays happen. But if customers are expected to be understanding when YOUR transportation is late, your company should show customers that same basic courtesy. Calling at 10:02 AM and being gone by approximately 10:07 AM after already telling us the driver would be late is not reasonable customer service. I sincerely hope Captain Bob's reviews how situations like this are handled because this was an incredibly disappointing way to treat paying customers. I will never book anything in the future with this company and will never recommend to anyone who asks me what they should book for their Hawaii experience and that's that.

Starting with one star and will update when progress is made…read more K&C has a nice clean shop, the employees are very nice and friendly. How ever this is about an ongoing problem I am dealing with since the installation of my Yanmar 4LV 250 Diesel with ZT 370 out drive. On the first sea trial I was told that the engine has noise and vibration at idle, I accepted that and proceeded with the sea trial noticing that the engine has noise and vibration when turning left but the noise and vibration is non existent when going straight or turning right. As I have gotten familiar with the engine and drive I've noticed that the rough idle and noise / vibration are very different things that only occur when turning left in forward or reverse at low rpm. I had 2 separate sea trials. First sea trial with Colleen confirmed there is an alignment issue. I took the boat to their shop on a Friday and was called a few hours later to pick up the boat. No work was performed to check the alignment, they purged the power steering pump which had no affect on the noise and vibration and they adjusted the engine height at the motor mounts. I was told when picking up the boat that there is no way the alignment could be a problem as engine and drive bolt up together. If there is no possibility of an alignment problem why does Yanmar recommend having the alignment checked annually and at every 100 hours? Second sea trial with Paul, confirmed there is noise and vibration only when turning left at and above idle. He called the technical support manager at Boatswains locker and explained to me that the noise and vibration is from gear chatter because the amount of torque engine produces. BS. I spoke to the Tech support manager and confirmed that it is an alignment problem. Gear noise would occur if the boat is out of the water with engine running because there is no load on the propeller and gear train. I have also spoken to another Yanmar dealer that confirmed that it is an alignment problem that needs to be addressed by the company that installed the engine. As of 8/29/2025 nothing has been resolved, they will discuss the problem with Boatswains locker and get back to me. Hopefully sooner than later. Like Johann G, I'm waiting for a call from Tyler to see what their plan of action is. And I have the invoice that is billed for their first sea trial and engine alignment that never happened. Up date coming as soon as I hear something. P.S. Engine is quieter, more fuel efficient and powerful than my old Volvo 230 hp and the drive with counter rotating props has much better response than the 290Dp drive.
