My family & friend have come here to rent the pontoon boats over a dozen times! Every time has been a BLAST! First off, you do need someone to sponsor you on base if you don't have a military ID since the boat harbor is located on base. Secondly, to rent the boat, someone in your party needs to get their boat license. Prior to the pandemic, they allowed 12 passengers on each boat but, have now cut it down to 10 ppl. It's $180 to rent the boat for a total of 4 hours from dock to dock. The times are 8am-12pm and 1pm-4pm. Once checked in, you will be given a quick review on how to operate the boat, directions on how to get to the sandbar. Once everyone and everything is loaded on, you're free to go!! Things to pack: sunscreen, snacks, lunch, water/drinks, floaties, and any other water toys you'd like to play with! You can even bring your furry friend(s) if you want! The one thing you CANNOT bring is alcohol. If you are caught with alcohol on the boat, the person with the boat license WILL lose their boat license for life! Pro tip: there are air compressors available for you to use to blow up your floaties and life jackets you can borrow for children. They also have wagons to haul your stuff between the dock and boat. Once out there, there's many other boats and places to anchor. Just make sure you are at least 20 feet away from the next boat. The water level depends on the time of day and year. There were a couple times I've gone and the sand is literally out of the water, most times it was a couple to a few feet deep. You should start packing up and heading back to the marina around 30 minutes before the end of your time frame to ensure you get back in time. Once in the marina, an MWR worker will flag you down and guide you in to your final destination. Overall, it's always a treat to be able to go to the sandbar with friends and/or family! read more

Want to take your family out to the sandbar at Kaneohe Bay on a pontoon? Got a military orDOD ID? Kaneohe Bay MCCS Marina is the place to go. The program to get a pontoon license is well organized. The staff are friendly and patient. You have to watch 5 videos (on your phone or computer). then pass a computer test in order to schedule the boating test. About 10 people were scheduled to be with one instructor per pontoon. We were shown everything we needed to know re: how to drive the boat and how to find our way to&from the sandbar. After passing a second written test, you won't get a paper license. Just hold on to your $25 transaction receipt as proof. Now you can rent a pontoon for 4 hours!!! I just found out that walk ins are allowed to rent a Boston whaler on an hourly basis. I think it would be a good idea to get some practice driving on the water before I take my family out. My wife and I came here for the pontoon boat licensing brief and and test. There is plenty of parking in a gravel parking lot to the front of the building. We weren't sure where to check in exactly but there aren't many options so we started with the desk area. The store and rental area is pretty elaborate with food and equipment options although we didn't buy anything. We waited about 10 minutes for our class to start and were escorted to the pontoon boats in groups of three. We each had a chance to drive the boat, learn the safe route to the sand bar, and how to safely drop anchor given high/low tides. No issues with the course or passing the test, and we look forward to taking a boat out with the family to enjoy a day on the water. A great benefit to the military community. read more

LOL Hubby and I have been going back and forth for years about getting our own boat and I can argue both sides excellently but with the unavailability of boat slips on island and/or storage fees it makes it exponentially more restricting. For right now, I like the idea of just going out on the water on a whim and leaving the mess of washing the boat down to the wonderful staff at this marina. I just got my fishing boat license ($20 annual fee) and can't wait to rent out one of their boats and head for the sandbar in Kaneohe Bay! At the Marina you can also rent things such as kayaks, OC-1's, SUPs, water skis, snorkels, bouncy houses, boat slips, etc. They have pretty much anything you'd need for a fun day in the sun. It's the best kept secret for marine enthusiasts and unfortunately you have to be active/retired military or DOD employee/spouse to take advantage of their programs. read more

You have to take the licensing course before you can rent the boats. We always get the pet friendly pontoon boats and have a blast out at the sandbar. We take friends and family all of the time. Only downside is NO ALCOHOL POLICY. That is kind of a buzz kill, but other than that it's fun. The dock staff can sometimes be a bit rude but I keep it happy and friendly and I never have any problems. I would call to get the exact website for the licensing course as I forget the name of it for scheduling it. It's super easy especially if you have prior boating experience. read more

This place is GREAT. You have to pass their "limited" boat license and you'd be able to rent a pontoon boat to go to sand bar! reasonable price, easy and for those of us lucky enough to be able to get on base, another awesome perk. You must know that the boat license you have to take a "written" test online and then a "hands on test" (by appointment only) at the marina. It must be clarified this is a LIMITED boating license! only allowed to go to sand bar and back. read more

Must be military (active, reserve, veteran) or DoD to rent out pontoon boats (10 or 12 person) for four hours, paddle boards, and other water activities. If you have at least one military or DoD with a boat driver's license for the Marina, they can sponsor. For example my friend (DoD with Marina boat driver's license which is renewed yearly) sponsored 9 of us for the 10-person pontoon boat. We usually get the 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm slot on a weekend. Highly recommend getting to the check-in to the base around 11:45am-12:00pm as the line can take 10-15 minutes depending on how many people are in front of you. Don't forget your license, safety registration and insurance (must not have expired) if you are the driver. Driver resumes all responsibilities of their passengers. Parking is free. There's tons of parking by the marina. Keep in mind of the dress code. If you have cut off sleeves and tank tops, you're only allowed to the Marina. Keep in mind NO ALCOHOL. Using the Marina's boat (10-person) and at least one paddle board is around $140. Divide that by 10 people and it's about $14-$15 a person. Summer has a more expensive rate (~$200plus), but it's worth it when you have 10 people. We bring our own cooler with non-alcoholic drinks, food (pizza, sandwiches, spam musubi, fried chicken, and other snacks). We also bring speakers to play music and our own floaties. We enjoy going to the Kaneohe Sandbar to relax, get in the water, laugh, and just enjoy the company of friends. Highly recommend if you have someone that has access and I'm so appreciative that a friend has taken us at least 5 times (once a year) for about 4 years or so. read more

Less pressure! Instructor and staff were all friendly and helpful. After obtaining the license we rented the new luxury pontoon for $180 for 4 hours. (This was during the winter season; summer season prices are a little higher) The birthday party was a success despite the cloudy weather... would definitely plan another pontoon party in the near future! I love this place. Due to the fact that they offer everything from sailboats to footballs. All sorts of ocean gear, fishing gear, camping gear, bar-b-que equipment and leisure items such as bicycles and hats. If I ever feel like renting water equipment, this is the first place I look. I am confident in saying they might have the best deals I've seen on the island. At most places you'll drop over $50 for a few hours of rental time, but here you can get a 24 hour rental period for less than $40. I've rented kayaks here several times, paddle and back rest included (unlike those BS tourist places that charge for the back rest). And for 24 hours it cost me a measly $25! Awesome! And a paddle board is $35 for 24 hours unlike most places that charge $60 for a day. The staff is civilian so no need to worry about any hassle, and they also have great customer service. (if this place wasn't ran by civilians they'd probably have less stars.). But anyway! They'll have you pull up your truck to the loading area and the staff will take your receipt and fetch your rental as well as help you load it into your truck. When you return your equipment they ask that it is clean and they conveniently have a hose you can use to rinse off your equipment right near the return area. read more

We rented a pavilion out for the day which was $30 so not bad at all. My problem was that its impossible to find if you don't know the base well. I was sort of the party planner so I had people calling me off the hook and I had no clue where to tell people to go. I tried calling the office probably ten times and nobody answered. Once we did find what we thought was our pavilion there were people there bbq'ing. I proceeded to ask if they had this rented and they said no. So nobody from the marina is managing who has what rented out for the day. We drove around till we found an empty pavilion and just took it over. The people next to us didn't pay to rent so we figured they would get booted before us. I would say know exactly where your pavilion is before you go and go early incase someone else has decided to set up camp at the one you have actually paid for. This was KBay Marina's grand opening party and what a party it was. They had food and drinks and music and fantastic views. There was so much entertainment for the keikis' what with the bouncy houses and the fishing contests and the big places to run free. Our boat is at this marina. It has been totally redone. The docks are awesome and they still have open slips. You have to be military, but you can't beat the price. This party had awesome entertainment. I was trying to get a picture of the name of all the groups that were playing, but this head kept being in my way. Then he started waving. I decided to take a picture of him. Of course it was the lead of Kapena. Lol. They were so great to listen to. I included a few of their songs. This was the first of their parties. Can't wait for more. We went here to do some kayaking today. Bad choice in days, it was quite windy making it hard to go very far. Guy at the front desk was nice, explaining that we can just choose our kayak, let him know the number and then leave. To rent a double, 2 person, kayak it is $7 an hour. For a single kayak it's only $5. You can't beat those prices. They also have boat rentals, sailing classes and other water sport options. Only bad part is that you can't leave the bay. I like to have a destination or at least some wildlife to look at when kayaking, but there isn't much opportunity for that here. read more

Rented pontoon, they put us in one that had engine trouble from the beginning, ended up being towed in. Boat was infested with ants and not clean. Other newer boats were available. With children aboard I considered it somewhat dangerous not having an engine that had been maintained properly. Otherwise it was an absolutely perfect day. Ask for a service record or a newer vessel. As we were pulled in by tow boat the tow driver smoked cigarettes and through the cigarette butts into the bay. read more
