My experience with the Hammond Police Department has left me with the unmistakable impression that…read moreselective enforcement is not the exception but the norm. It is difficult to ignore the fact that there are consistently multiple vehicles with Illinois plates parked along Homan Avenue and Park Place without consequence, yet certain people and vehicles appear to attract repeated attention. At some point, it stops looking like coincidence and starts looking like a pattern. The purpose of law enforcement is to uphold the law impartially, not to enforce it based on convenience or personal discretion. When similar situations produce completely different outcomes depending on who is involved, it raises legitimate questions about fairness, consistency, and accountability. Public trust is not built through selective policing. It is built by applying the same standards to everyone. Equally concerning is the attitude displayed during some of these interactions. There is a noticeable difference between carrying oneself with professionalism and treating routine encounters as opportunities to remind people who has the badge. Authority is meant to protect the public, not to satisfy an ego. When officers become more interested in exercising power than exercising sound judgment, they undermine the very respect they expect from the community. The Hammond Police Department would be better served by focusing less on repeatedly scrutinizing the same individuals and more on demonstrating that the law is applied evenly regardless of who is parked where or what license plate is on a vehicle. Respect cannot be demanded simply because a uniform is worn. It is earned through integrity, consistency, and restraint. The community deserves policing that is fair, objective, and free from the appearance of personal bias. Until that standard is consistently met, many residents will continue to question whether they are being protected or simply being targeted.

My girlfriend did try call 911 for domestic violence from abuse parents and did report them show…read moresome evidences what they did but police didn't do anything, the officer just acting like crime they didn't commit how even telling them giving alcohol towards 1 year old baby and showing abuse of video but like officer act is normal. This is worse police emergency call we had and they didn't help. So I hopefully be glad report those bad services and that officer so off his duty. Be glad report them and see it on court.

My Son passed away in a terrible car accident on November…read more27th 2023. I have many unanswered questions for authorities and the other person/ people involved in said car accident that can only be due to what I will assume at this point is incompetence and blatant disregard of my son's life. Calumet Park Police refuse to give me a police report or ANY information. Upon my own investigation I found out that my son was the passenger in a stolen vehicle. The police, for an un known reason, refused to divulge Any of this information. If there is not an investigation, there absolutely needs to be! The man who was driving the stolen car with my son in it refuses to talk. HE WILL BE HELD ACOUNTABLE FOR THIS AS HE WAS DRIVING THE CAR. I have video proof of which I wanted to give the police but again I am being told there was no police report filed as they are insisting it was a one car accident and, in their words "we don't do police reports for one car accidents" EVEN THOUGH MY SON HAS LOST HIS YOUNG LIFE. The negligence is incomprehensible family deserves answers. I not only have video proof of part of this incident, I have also found a report that Calumet Park said didn't exist. What is Calumet police department trying to hide? Why was I told that my son was ejected from the vehicle by one officer and something totally different by another? The lack of compassion and the amount of disrespect will not be tolerated. Fix this!!!!!

My son was arrested yesterday by calumet police department. Because his baby mother was mad at him…read morefor not keeping the kids. She came to my home and threw a brick at my front window. She even tried to attack me in my house. My son grab her and she bit him in his chest. When the police arrived my son showed the police the bit marks and instead of taking both of them to jail they only took him. She put a protection order on him but calls my house several times a day. When the sheriff came to issue paper work to my son. I told her how she call my house she told me to keep record of the calls and if she come to my house call the the police and file a complaint. When I tried to show the officer how many times she calls my house and told him she threw a brick at my window he refuse to listen. My son is a good father to his kids and he love them very much never tried to hurt them at all. She calls him a tell my son the kids miss him he try to do the right thing and spend quality time with them but it cost him his freedom. I told the police if he go to jail she Should go to for bitten him and the police seen the mark and refused to take her. This let me know that calumet police do not follow the legal rules and very unfair. I also wanted to press charges on her for threaten me and throwing a brick at my window and they refused. This is why it so much hate crime against the police because they don't care when it comes to black people and that's why black people don't trust them.

The clerk was rude and seemed only interested in getting the caller off of the phone. She advised the caller that Social Security wouldn't have any information on her application. She needs to call Medicare about part D. Huh? Extra Help is a Medicare savings program but the application is made thru the SSA. The personnel in that office are terrible. We ended up having to call the Gary office for help. They were more than happy to assist. Someone needs to over customer service in Hammond. They are terrible.

I was going to give it two stars because you walk in and take a ticket, and you have no idea how long it's going to take, and it smells, and you expect to see Beetlejuice because it feels like that waiting room in bell, and they quietly call numbers so I missed mine and had to take another ticket and wait again. BUT once I finally got up to the window, the woman was helpful and warmed up a bit as we talked, and understood what I wanted from the SSA and helped me out. And in and out, even with the double wait, it was still under 30 minutes, so while it might be Pollyanna-ish, that seems pretty good to me. There was plebtynof parking. And I can't imagine how much more awful it would all be in downtown Chicago. There are lots of pamphlets to read while you wait, including a brief history of social security.
