I walked into a space where the dome format gives the building a distinctive character that sets it apart from the standard rectangular arena. For a concert, the circular layout meant sightlines were generally workable from most positions in the building. I saw TWICE here, and the show was the kind of performance that fills a space like this in the right way. The production was large enough to justify the venue size, and the floor area in particular delivered the energy that a show like this builds toward. The acoustics in the dome held up better than the building's age might suggest, and the sound carried clearly enough that the vocal and instrumental mix came through without the muddiness that dome venues can sometimes produce. Getting into the venue moved at a reasonable pace even with a full house. Security was present and effective without being intrusive, and the entry process at a sold out show was more organized than I expected. The concession variety was solid and the food lines, while long during peak windows like opener breaks, moved steadily enough. Seating on the upper levels had a comfort issue for taller people, with the sightline angles and seat spacing working better for average height than for anyone over six feet. The main screen visibility also dropped off depending on my position relative to center, so seats closer to the floor or directly facing the stage tend to offer a more complete visual experience. Transit access is one of the practical strengths of the venue, with bus and light rail connections close enough that driving and parking is optional rather than necessary. For a large arena show in the Pacific Northwest, the Tacoma Dome remains one of the more reliable options in the region.

It kinda felt like I was in a big gym. Our seats weren't that great or expensive but we had a great view of the stage and we did not feel like we were that far away. Seats were fairly comfortable too. The parking situation is a bit of a mess and it's a horrible place to drive to and back. There is no easy way to get there. You will be dealing with horrible traffic and there will be lots of constructions going on in the summer time. If my favorite artists decide to perform here in the future, I would not hesitate to come back but Tacoma dome is definitely not my favorite venue for events.

A security staff member told us that only people with "business" were allowed in, but when I asked what that meant, I never received a clear explanation. What made it especially confusing was seeing two female visitors enter shortly afterward, despite us being told we couldn't. I don't know their circumstances, so I can't say why they were allowed in, but from our perspective, the policy did not appear to be applied consistently. It left us feeling unwelcome and questioning whether we were treated fairly. The outside of the stadium has potential, although the parking lot and surrounding grounds looked like they could use some maintenance. Unfortunately, we never got to see the inside or experience the stadium itself. It would have been nice if I had been able to go inside and see what was there, as that would have allowed me to give a more complete and informed review. I hope management can communicate its visitor policies more clearly and ensure everyone receives the same welcoming and respectful treatment.

I was about a dozen or so rows behind home plate and sat a few rows futher back thinking it couldn't seem as close as they make it seem. They make the best ballpark experience. The design is nice and made me rethink my whole "retractable roof" takes away from atmosphere opinion from Chase Field in Arizona. Food, drink, and shopping options are great. The staff is very friendly as are fans. The salmon race is fun to watch and Mariner Moose is adorable. It was Star Wars night so it was fun to see the storm trooper and Darth Vader as well as Mariner Moose being dressed. Mariners scored well in first two innings but Yankees caught up with my former Cardinal favorite Paul Goldschmidt giving Yankees the lead. Then I was out of there. Oh well.

Background Attended an August Saturday late-afternoon game, the Mariners played the Cubs. Sat in field level, first base side. Sunny weather, temperatures in the low 70's, and a great finish, the M's came from two runs down in the 9th to win on a walk-off homer. Sold-out field. Who could ask for anything better, right? Stadium Warning, gripes follow! You may wish to skip past the next couple or so paragraphs. We arrived early, as we always do when we visit a park for the first-time. Two gates open 2 hours before game time - we happened to line up for the Pen entrance simply because it was the closest. Several minutes later as our part of the queue approached the entry a security employee (I think) walked up and asked if we had T-Mobile accounts. Unthinkingly we answered honestly, "nope". He said "follow me", then "this line is only for T-Mobile customers". Now I've since searched and haven't found this posted as such anywhere on-line or at the park. Were we scammed? Possibly, but by the time I realized this we'd been escorted out of line. So off to the end of the Center Field gate line, and, several more minutes later, we're finally in. Then, partway around the concourse we're stopped again. It so happens that only a portion of the park opens two hours early, most of it opens a half-hour later. So we find ourselves being pushed and jostled while huddled in an unorganized mass of people for several more minutes. In the many, many stadiums I've visited in my life I have never had such issues. T-Mobile, if you have limited access entrances, ADVERTISE them! And whether early or later, just open the entire park at the same time. The mess we stood in was truly a public safety concern. Finally, not the fault of T-Mobile or the Seattle Mariners, but our seats happened to be around a group of fans who had clearly enjoyed a few too many fine beverages and/or other products. A shame, because their raucous behavior detracted from our and I'm sure many other fans' enjoyment of the game. I know, attend enough games these days and you'll run into a few such vibe-killers. Doesn't make a person feel any better when it happens to them, or you. Other than that, it's a scenic park, especially for one which has right field closed off for the "not a roof". Food So many great food choices, certainly the best I've visited. Salt & Straw ice cream! Sumo dogs! Seafood, Mexican (chapulines!) Detroit-style gourmet pizza, fancy cocktails, to name just a few options. But choose quickly! By the fourth inning of our game the concourses were filled and every good vendor had a very long line of customers. What's Unusual So that retractable "not a roof" is actually an umbrella. It closes to keep the rain out but leaves the sides of the park open to the elements. Cool! Summary I've read several articles that place T-Mobile among the very best major league parks. Unfortunately, our experience didn't meet that high standard. Still, a very good place to see a game.

One of the best settings for a sporting event in the nation…read more The proximity to the city definitely can be a downside if you're thinking about traffic, but I've had even worst traffic experiences at stadiums that were out in the boonies too. So that's probably hard to do for any stadiums anywhere. What's remarkable is the food and the liveliness it has during event days. Inside the stadium, of course, but even the outside and heck, the entire mile of a walk to the stadium itself is just energized with people hanging out and grabbing food. It cannot be understated how well the environment is out here. Of course, the stadium itself is a state of the art facility and probably one of the loudest acoustically. I think I heard it was specifically engineered for that? Don't quote me on that but it really does get loud out there, and I love it. Biased as I am, having lived here my entire life, this place is arguably the best setting in the world in my heart.

The light-rail mess after this show didn't help. If you care more about atmosphere and hits than perfect sound, you'll leave happy. If you're sensitive to echo or prefer intimate acoustics, maybe stick to smaller venues. Sheeran keeps coming back for a reason though--this place works for his style of stadium intimacy, even if it's not a sonic paradise.

Before delving into all that, though, I will summarize some of its best features: * Free parking (in the east lot only, however) * Wonderful security, concession, and event staff (minus one manager in particular) * Spacious venue, with great sight lines, even from the floor Now, on to the problem: Myself, my wife, and another 20-or-so attendees had VIP Meet & Greet tickets to meet one of the bands in the lineup for our event, to which we were invited into the venue early to hang out with them, take pictures, etc. Although our band was not the headliner, we were told by event staff that, once our session was done, we'd have to head back outside. However, we were explicitly told to line up behind the VIP line for the headliner, and once their session was one, we'd ALL be allowed entry into the venue early, partially to avoid the 90+ degree heat and direct sunlight hitting the glass and reflective mirrors on the sunny-side of the building, where our lines were told to assemble. We confirmed this multiple times with the gentleman, who was friendly, warm, helpful and welcoming. Once we were back outside, things took a turn south, as the Events Manager, the aforementioned smug, rude, condescending and callous mentioned above, decided otherwise, and subjected nearly two dozen people to several hours of sun exposure, simply due to her being on some sort of power trip. Multiple people in our group would end up suffering from heat-related health issues, including two diabetics. Thankfully, some of the caring concession staff inside, noticing our plight, offered some free cold beverages to help alleviate their suffering. Despite being informed of what the previous gentleman had said, as well as the condition of the people suffering in the heat, the Events Manager continued to be smug and dismissive, her response always distilling down to basically "because I said so". Her final excuse was that our tickets simply could not be scanned for entry prior to a certain time, which is true to a point. However, as one of the people in our group worked for Ticketmaster, and informed her, and everyone present, that this is adjustable by the venue AND Ticketmaster, she ran out of excuses. Once we were finally inside, things were great, once people had recovered from the heat. However, this Events Manager put people's live in danger for no reason other than exerting her power, and that is in excusable. A complaint is being filed with the BBB by multiple people in our group, as well as formal complains with the venue's ownership and upper management. At the VERY least, in the future, ShoWare Center needs to inform their management that extended queues for summer events MUST be moved to the shaded side of the building, and when people start to suffer legitimate risks to their health, then it's time to take action...or be the subject of legal action taken against them.
