I made an appointment with Schoene as my regular doctor was away. As soon as I walked in the room the doctor was already confused and frustrated with me, literally as I sat down. She refused to listen to the patient (me), and would not let me explain why I was there. She kept misdiagnosing me with newly acquired halo effect, which I've had for 18 years. She checked my eyesight so rapidly- changing lenses on me with no time to even adjust or read- then would get frustrated that I would ask to see through the various lenses again. She talked as if she was superior and very intellectual in her mind. She talked down to me in a snide tone- "I'm TRYING to help you!"- I was not arguing or raising my voice, but she seemed to insist on confrontation. She actually interrogated me like I was a convict at one point when I told her one lens looked better to me- "You JUST SAID the other was better!" She was switching lenses so fast I got confused on which was which. The worst was obviously how she talked to me- the patient- but she insulted the staff and doctor in front of me also, which was highly unprofessional. She talked down about my Doctor- telling her helper in the room "See if she (my doctor) even bothered to do this test...". She said it very condescending, and was trying to cause distrust in my doctor. I have been going there many years, so I trust my doctor and realize this lady is very unprofessional. She also talked down about my doctors staff in front of me, complaining that the tech was basically incompetent because she dilated my eyes. She claimed she couldn't do a test due to it- and wanted me to make an appointment off site for the test- by the way, my doctor has the machine at her facility, and did the test yesterday- the dilated eyes make no difference for this specific test. The worst thing is I am a human being with sharply declining eyesight- I go to this doctor for help, and I had to PAY to get insulted, frustrated, get no help, and be fearful that my eyesight would worsen before a real professional doctor came back. She gave me no written information on my diagnosis, I left very confused. My doctor came back this week, and I saw her- so I am now being taken care of by a competent doctor.

My eye exam was Saturday, I called this office Monday morning and had an appointment for Tuesday at 730 a.m. Was greeted as soon as walking in. The office was clean and spacious. Check in was easy and she was very friendly. Got taken back immediately for some pre testing before seeing the doctor. She was extremely nice, and explained everything she was going to do before doing it. I was seen by Dr. Ruff. I found him extremely professional, friendly, very knowledgeable. He took the time answer all my questions. He was very thorough in performing his testing, and again he explained everything prior to doing. He was gentle, can be scary seeing things poked in your eye ball. Hate that I had to be seen, but the experience was very good. I would highly recommend the office if ever in need. They also have an office in Orchard park!

The lab that supplies their lenses will send pitted or scratched lenses that will have to be returned. You may wait months to receive your prescription. I ordered glasses on March 5, 2025. I got 2 days a week worth of effort. He made me feel like he wanted me out of there as quickly as possible. Didn't want to dilate me when all docs want to based on family history. Told me in the most brusque way possible about the practice sale, his 2 days a week status, and that I can expect my eyes to get worse as I approach my 40's. At the end of the appointment, I took my prescription to go and found a small local practice where the doctor actually cares. Wouldn't recommend, which is disappointing from a place I formerly trusted.

I really liked this provider at one time. I really tried not to give a bad review of Clarence Eye…read moreCenter and Dr Murphy but i could no longer hold off on this. When i first saw Dr Murphy he changed the way I see. I have an eye condition that causes me to see multiples. The solve for that is Scleral Lenses. They are very expensive and I got several pairs from Clarence Eye Center. For the first time in over 10 years, I was able to see clearly and only one of everything! He charges a $250 fitting fee for each eye, at least he did last time I last got lenses from him. This was to include the fitting fee for each eye including all scans to properly fit them as well as free follow ups for each eye to get the fit just right. The last pair I bought, on the last fitting, which should have been included, they billed my insurance for a routine eye exam. When i called to inquire they apologized but said they would not retract their claim from the insurance company. They offered me a "credit" for my next routine exam. I explained that I go to Fichte for routine eye exams and that I only see them for my lenses. They still refused to withdraw the claim. I could have at that point pushed to claim insurance fraud on them but since i just got resolved with my vision for what is usually a year or more i decided to not embarrass them with an insurance fraud claim. I figured that i would just find a new Scleral lense provider in the future even if I had to drive an hour to see them. Now, I am in the process of getting new lenses and my new provider reached out to them to get my records to get a baseline and not have to start from scratch and they have told my new provider that they cannot help them as they never did any scans of my eyes. That is a blatant lie since they needed to do the scans to fit me with the lenses. Moral of the story, Scleral Lenses are life changing, just don't go to Clarence Eye Center for them. Save yourself the headache and seek out a different provider.

Lindsey at the front desk has been so nice. My first appointment over a year ago, I showed up the wrong day and she very quickly was able to fit me in with very little wait, that's unheard of. She has printed out paperwork for me today and did so with such kindness, I wish everyone could be more like her when dealing with people. Nancy Coa is amazing too, although she did tell me I was old at my first appointment,( I needed readers). And my doctor, Mary Ellen Loughrey is the absolute best!!! She always listens and has taught me more about my eyes than I ever knew about. I can't say enough good about these women!! This office is wonderful. They are extremely knowledgeable and everyone has been so nice. It truly makes a difference in someone's day when you just be kind.

I was totally impressed with the amount of time and care that Dr Jeffrey Calhoun took with my friend. He has the patience of a saint. I was unaware of some of the visual tests he had performed were even available for her. He was polite, honest and soft spoken. He spoke to her, not at her. When she had to speak to the optician, Greg was stellar in his line of work with prisms as well as his mannerisms. Talk about knowing his stuff!!!! From the moment we walked in the door and greeted I had noticed a friendly and clean atmosphere. The wait time was minimal and the time spent on my friend was unmatched by any business I've ever visited. I wish I had known about him years ago. I'm adding my own extra star.

I took my mother who is in her 90's to see Dr. Calhoun because I heard he was a low vision…read morespecialist. This is our experience and need to say that your experience may differ. Mom has macular degeneration. Dr. Calhoun had nothing to offer. But what really prompted me to write this review is his total lack of class and empathy for the patient. The poor guy really didn't have much personality and wasn't really a nice guy. But, whatever if he can help. Yes, mom has trouble with her vision and that's why we were in his office. I asked if he felt her vision was going to get worse. Right in front of mom he shrugs his shoulders and says "She can't see anything anyway." Real class "doctor" to say something so crude in front of a lady in her 90s. I hate to contradict his statement, but I took her to a real low vision specialist. This gentleman told me that her retina still has good spots and that the brain looks for them. Well, Dr. Calhoun must have missed that class. So, if your mom needs a low visin specialist, take this guy off your list. He's rude and another doctor proved he really isn't all that good. If you have to go here, see Dr Schwach. I had to see him for a problem I was having & he got me in the same day. He explained everything, was a great guy and very good at helping out and putting me at ease. I would seriously recommend you stay away from Dr. Calhoun. He didn't seem to be that knowledgable and absolutely has no class. He should know better. I am usually 100% on time for all my appointments everywhere I go and if I'm late I let the business or doctor's office know. I called before my appointment time and said I'll be late and they said there is a 15 minute grace window. I was certainly not 16 minutes late that is false, I was 12 minutes late. Upon getting there I was told I had to then wait for other customers to be seen. I understand I was late but having to wait longer is ridiculous that's why the policy exists. I never experienced this anywhere else. For a business owner to fight back against a customer is straight up unprofessional. If you value your time go elsewhere.
