I can't thank him enough for helping, especially since he wasn't even wearing any winter gear...just his fancy shmancy suit. Heimie's snowbank conqueror was so impeccably dressed that I'm sold on purchasing a bow tie here for my six-year-old nephew very soon. He will be going on his first official chaperoned ice cream date with a young lady determined to marry him in the future, and he specifically requested a bow tie for the event. Had my business trip unexpectedly extended so needed a few work items. This store is very close to the St Paul hotel so extremely convenient. Yes, it's a bit old school. You can get a straight razor shave or a traditional men's fedora. With a bit of notice, they can tailor clothes or fix a torn shirt/suit. I think they even sell cigars. I spent about 30 mins looking at shirts/pants/ties (!!!), got a few recommendations, and made my purchases. Heimie's has a good selection of high quality men's clothing at reasonable prices. The staff could not possibly have been nicer. It's unlikely I'll ever need to come back but I wouldn't hesitate to do so. read more

Wedding saved with superb customer service (including a house call). My nephew was getting married at the Skyroom at Red Wing Golf Course. A few hours before the wedding, he realized had left his suit pants back at home. With no time to retrieve them, I received a call to see if there was anything I could do (I was already in Red Wing). We found Heimie's Haberdashery via the web, went there and were helped by the manager Jeff. After he heard the story, he grabbed some prospective clothes and drove the mile or so to the wedding venue, the groom OK'd the suit and pants, then Jeff measured my nephew at the venue. We drove back to Heimie's, Jeff tailored the clothes, and we took the clothes back to the venue. Wedding proceeded as planned, the bride wasn't aware that the suit had been replaced until after the wedding ceremony. Thank you Heimie's and Jeff, You were perfect for us! read more

This is a very sad review to write because I had such high hopes for this store. But my experience was dreadful. There are no reliable custom tailors where I live, so I set up an appointment for mid-January, when I visited the MSP area. They measured me, and I ordered three pairs of custom slacks. Since they advertise themselves as custom tailors, I assumed they would be making the slacks in-house. But after I had paid, they told me they would be made elsewhere and the process would take about a month---i.e., until mid February. It turns out that the slacks actually are made in China. When they did not arrive on the delivery date, Heimie's told me there would be a further month's delay. By the time they arrived at Heimies, 2-1/2 months had passed. Then the Heimie's staff let the slacks sit in their shop for a week before, at my urging, they finally sent them to me. And when the first two did arrive, they were not as ordered! I had pay a local seamstress to correct them. Heimie's has not responded to my repeated inquiries as to the undelivered third pair. I had to challenge the charge on my credit card and I am still---3 months later---without a seriously-needed third pair of slacks. My experience is not unique. Other reviewers have reported long delays in delivery, broken promises, and non-responsiveness. I wish I'd read those reviews before patronizing Heimie's. read more

We have had nothing but trouble. Bought son a gift card to ostensibly get a bag made but they had only one way to do it. And he felt they were rude to him. He went back to look at clothes and they were again rude. Rude actually. Luckily he moved to NYC and decided to order shoes on line. Heimies personal have been rude on the phone as his package was never delivered. No one will step up to figure it out. I was raised in my father's Haberdashery in Chicago so I have always been a fan and customer of Heimie's. I also saw my father go the extra mile for customers. Last week I unexpectedly found myself in the hospital without some clothing that I needed and would need. I called Heimie's and spoke with Larry Calhoun. Larry listened to my needs and then after work he brought me an assortment of items that met my needs. Larry not only went the extra mile, he went the extra hospital corridor to find my room and help me; making my stay more comfortable. Thank you Larry. If you're using this place for wedding suits beware... I as the groom got my suit from here as well as 2 other people from my party. Here's the pros of this place, their in store experience is incredible. They are well versed and found all of us absolutely incredible suits. However, it was a nightmare of a process after we walked out. We all went in on our own, on separate days. We all chose a suit and were told that in 2 weeks they'd have it here for us to try on and that they'd contact us. I called them 3 weeks later wondering what was up and was told that it was never ordered. All 3 of us had the exact same experience. The amount of excuses and total lack of communication was so frustrating. All 3 of us had to constantly call these people to get anywhere and we all 3 were hit by excuses. It took all 3 of us a month or more to get our suits instead of 2 weeks. Their follow up experience is way too messy for me to recommend this place to anyone unless their deadline is far in the future. read more

I would leave 100 stars if I could. Shamus helped my son find the perfect suit for confirmation that is altered in such a way where it can be let out as he grows. My son HATES shopping especially for dressy clothes. Shamus made the whole experience interactive for him so he was teaching him about how a suit coat is supposed to lay, how you take it on and off, how to buy a belt. In the warmer months, you'll find gentlemen smoking cigars outside, which sets the tone for the nostalgia-laden interior. Rich, old woodwork, pin cushions and measuring tapes, classic fedoras, seersucker suits, pocket squares in every fabric and color imaginable. Ladies, there's nothing for you to see here, this is a place where guys feel comfortable. Heimie's hooked my brother up with an amazing custom suit for his big day and went above and beyond on customer service. My brother went in thinking he wanted a light blue suit, but Heimie's staff convinced him to go tan and he looked SHARP. I would trust any of their staff's suggestions... they know style! The man helping us stayed an hour after closing to make sure we had all the details of the suit sorted out (thread, buttons, lining, etc.). My brother is a last-minute guy and Heimie's delivered, even sending the suit out to CA and connecting him to a tailor out there for his final fitting. read more

I brought in an article of clothing to bring in for alteration. I paid extra for the rush service, as I needed it within a week. I had an event the following week on Wednesday. They told me it would be ready after 3:00 PM on Tuesday. When I showed up at 4:00 PM on Tuesday it was not done. They told me to come back the next day after 12:00 PM to pick it up. Needless to say, this is totally inappropriate for a business such as Heimie's. My event started at 4:00 PM. Barely any time to get ready for it. Totally unimpressed. Paid about $150 for this type of service. Yes I know we are in a pandemic. Yes I paid extra. No, I did not get the service I expected from this reputable clothing store. read more

I made an appointment at the store looking for a black suite. Shared clearly I needed it for an event 2 weeks later. It took a week for the sales person to reply (after several texts on my part) that the suit I want won't be available for 6 weeks. Basically left me high and dry. The suits were wonderfully tailored. Wonderful experience except for Richard. If he is put in charge of the suits for your wedding, seriously consider taking your business elsewhere. Everyone else in the shop made up for all his multiple errors that made getting suits one of the most stressful parts of planning our wedding. He sent one of the groomsmen home with the wrong colored shirt - he had to drive the day of our wedding back to the shop to get the correct shirt. He forgot to order one of the groomsmen suits, and they had to make it the two days before the wedding. He didn't contact the groomsmen in town for their second fitting, and they had to reach out to him and scramble last minute for fitting. To boot Richard wasn't even present on the day of the final fitting for all the suits, which was thousands of dollars. It was very clear he didn't care. read more

So, loved this place. Already want to plan another trip to St. Paul to go back to Heimie's. I was in a wedding in St. Paul and some of the guys went to Heimie's to get hot shaves before the ceremony. We had an appointment for 10 when they opened and we had 2 chairs available to us. We had a great time, I absolutely recommend other grooms' parties do this. The hot shave was fantastic. I've had a beard for nearly 18 years and have always done the maintenance and cleanup myself. The precision the barber used was incredible. The beard ended up perfectly straight and I had no razor burn or irritation from the straight razor shave. Very relaxing and ended up looking great. I would say the entire thing took around 25 minutes and was $35. Well worth it given the attention to detail and final result. I also had my dress shoes shined at Heimie's. They also looked great and the shine was $7, which is very reasonable. While I was waiting on the other guys in the wedding party I walked around a bit. Heimie's has some fantastic clothes, both casual and dress. It's upper end stuff, so it is definitely not cheap. They also provide made to measure services by appointment. They had a great selection of hats, bags, and cigars as well. Just an all around fantastic shop and great experience. read more

During the second fitting, he help us pick out all of the other pieces of his outfit and knew exactly what we wanted before we told him. He is a psychic. I wish that I could give a better review but I cannot. Our first walk in experience was great, Larry helped us figure out a suit for my future husband as well as the colors for the groomsman. Unfortunately, after this visit, things went downhill. Larry lost our information from our first visit. When the groom and groomsmen went in for the fitting, measurements were taken that were later lost. We were yelled at over the phone for the measurements being lost. When the pants and shirts arrived, 3/7 did not fit and new ones had to be sent. We had to go around and remeasure the 3 groomsman as they had the wrong sizes..again. We had a very hard time contacting Larry. We would text and email and not get a response. The wrong pants had been ordered at one point and needed to be rushed in, making things stressful because at this point we were very close to the wedding. I finally gave up and asked to talk to the manager. He helped us and was on top of things, but at this point so many things had gone wrong and been beyond stressful for us. We did get some compensation for everything, but I would not return to this store in the future. read more

There are mixed reviews I don't understand. If you are a professional man or woman you should consider shopping here. It's not overly expensive, suits range from $299 to $2500 for a custom-made suit. They have decent inventory and if there's nothing that works for you, they'll share swatches of suits to bring in within a week for for to try on. There are a few big differences in my experience. First, the tailoring. Get a suit if the rack and they will do alterations to make it fit like a glove. I've bought suits in plenty of places and they'll take in a little here or there. Heimie's really shines with alterations. Usually suit pants are baggy on me, they took my pants apart, recut them and sewed them back together, no charge. They fit amazing and I'm proud to wear these clothes. I've bought their $299 suit and it looks amazing because of the tailoring. Secondly, the employees really have an opinion as to what looks good and what doesn't. Honest opinions to help you make a smart clothing investment. I've bought suits ranging from $299 to $1195. They all have that "look". Not too flashy, but nice fabric with a perfect fit. One day I'll get a custom suit, but I'm clothed better than ever already. read more

I really want to like this place...but they are making it very difficult. My recent attempt at getting a beard trip proved very disappointing. I had an important business meeting so decided to book a beard trim before my trip I scheduled the appointment three weeks in advance. The day before I called Michael to confirm my appointment and told him I was looking forward to it. The next day I arrived for my appointment. I was a few minutes late...as it took me a while to find a secure spot nearby to lock up my bicycle. I arrived only to find that Michael had already left for the day. I was told he had to leave to get somewhere. No cancellation call, follow up or concern about whether or not I was still expecting a trim. I said I was very disappointed and asked what they could do to help me out. They said there was nothing they could do. I was out of luck. What a fabulous store! I can't commend the staff enough for their efficiency, knowledge, and helpfulness. This store is eye candy to the well dressed man from the wonderful hat selection to pocket squares. We flew in from Washington to go to Heimie's so that my SO could get a beautiful custom suit for our wedding. I'm not sure how this place couldn't have perfect reviews - the reviews must come from people that aren't acquainted with the process of purchasing a suit... Heimie's looks exactly as a haberdashery should - it showcases suits, ties, and custom hats and I am told you can get a shave and hair cut as well. We made an appointment so we wouldn't feel rushed - Chavis greeted us almost immediately. I can't say enough wonderful things about him. He was incredibly helpful, professional, informed - he knew right away that my sweetie had been a hockey player. His suggestions were spot on and the result is the most beautiful suit I have ever seen. On a practical note: Chavis suggested a variety of options that would range from economical to expensive. He worked to make sure we would have the finished piece before the wedding with enough time to make any last minute tweaks. Additionally, not only did we get a beautiful suit - the shirt and tie suggestions were spot on... literally stunning. I could go on and on about this place... But I will leave you with this: We will be back for SO, and for myself. :) They are happy to make custom women's suits as well. I visited Heimie's once with he to get a feel for the place. He wanted to try going full custom on his suit (which he did) and they were the place to do it. Walking into the Haberdashery is a much different experience than going to a Men's Wearhouse. The service was impeccable. They had a seemingly endless selection of fashions, fabrics, and styles. They are competitive pricewise and more than competitive quality-wise. My husband got his whole outfit there (suit, tie, shoes, suspenders, etc.) and was more than pleased with Heimie's. We bought our groomsmen's ties there and I think that some of the other mens' attire came from there as well. Mark did end up going fully custom with his suit, and even had his name embroidered on the inside. He did end up spending more than I did on my dress, but I got my dress at a consignment shop (see below) and he'll wear his suit again (and can't wait to do so!). I'd be interested in trying their other services for sure. read more

Maybe it's because I don't have to shave my face (thank god) and therefore can't speak of a great old-fashioned barber shop experience? I don't know. Went in with 2 buddies, just to see the shop, not seriously looking so I wasn't expecting quality service, and rightly so as I wasn't a buyer. We were greeted immediately by Mr. Allen (Keith Allen - black gentleman with glasses - so you know who to look for). We told him we were just seeing the sights and had never been here before and he offered us a tour of the store. He showed us every room, and talked about different product lines that we or are friends could use in the future. Super hospitable and great salesman. TL;DR: They made an error in tailoring and did nothing to fix it, or accommodate me. I just left the store a half hour ago. Had a shirt and suit tailored for a wedding. Shirt and suit was bought at consignment by the groom, so shirt was a little billowy. I asked for it to be tailored to my torso and arms. I picked it up today, suit looks great and shirt was tailored well, except for arms... The forearms were comically tight. I couldn't even bend my elbow fully. Attendant pulled out ticket to contest what I had asked for, suggesting I was at fault. I repeated I simply wanted it to fit me better. I asked what could be done ("OK, how can we fix this?), and he said "Nothing, looks like that's a one-shot Charlie for your event" The same can go for Heimies, in my opinion. Otherwise their service was great, but I should be able to say, "please make this fit me better" and assume a professional tailor will do that, and if they make a mistake (no biggie) they will do whatever they can to fix it, without me having to stomp my feet and cause a stink. read more

Wow. Amazing place. Had a groomsmen gathering here before a wedding. They catered some micro beer and burgers for us while we all got straight razor shaves. Excellent idea from the groom.
