The Heineken Experience could do so much more to make the history come alive! I have traveled a bit and been on many tours! This tour lacked the sharing of knowledge about the roots of Heineken and didn't lean into the tech they have for visitors to experience! Get VR Headsets...share more history and engage the groups more with questions. I feel with this museum..you have an opportunity to have an impact vs. feeling like you scamming people on an experience that doesn't deliver!
Way better than I expected. Been to a lot of brewery tours, most of which were a bit boring. This stands out from all of them. Lots of effort put into their walkthrough. Your ticket comes with two tokens that are good for two half pints of Heineken at the end of the tour (you end up at a bar where fresh, crisp half pint Heinekens are on tap). Coolest part of the tour is sort of a 3D ride inside an enclosed room. Lots of dazzling visuals. Probably not a good idea if you're claustrophobic or easily affected by visual stimuli. Near the end of the tour, there are kiosks where you can order a Heineken bottle that you can customize with your name (or whatever you'd want to put there that doesn't go over the word count limit). Costs about 17 euro, but I think it's a nice souvenir. Check this museum out if you're out here. Well worth it.
Heineken is a well worth stop during your time in Amsterdam! A Dutch staple of course!! It's super cool to see the origin of Heineken, where it made and how. I recommend purchasing tours ahead of time and including the roof top in your tour. You get to explore the factory on a guided tour and at the end, you can go to the rooftop to enjoy the views and have another beer complementary. At the end of the tour you can enjoy a Heineken at the "Best Dam Bar". Enjoying a Heineken where it originated, what can be better?! This is for sure a must visit, even if you're not extremely into beer everyone knows the name Heineken, so it's informative at the least!
Purchased walk-in tickets on a Monday for ~5pm. Experience starts off with a history lesson (as expected). Then comes the "immersive" portion, which was a lot of augmented reality, video games (FIFA, etc), photobooths, and more. Don't forget to email the photobooth pics to yourself! Our ticket tier gave us 2 tokens to use for drinks. Our guide threw an extra token on the ground at the beginning of the tour if you're keen on getting an extra drink. Lots of walking, decent amount of stairs. The drinking area floor was pretty sticky, and there are staff who are constantly floating around to take away empty glasses *immediately*. Bathroom attendants also very attentive. You can purchase a personalized bottle mid-tour, which becomes ready for pick-up at the end. Overall, pretty fun experience for all ages whether or not you like beer (but especially the male audience). Definitely on the pricey side, but still fun. Don't forget about the tax refund if you purchase more than $50.
I'll be honest, I am not the biggest support of Heineken beer, living in the US with so many craft breweries around. But when in Amsterdam... This venue and experience was on prior to leaving the for Amsterdam, but I would not have been upset had we not made it. Thankfully on our last full day in the city we walked from Amsterdam-Noord, took the ferry across the IJ and made our way south to arrive at a large red bricked building off S100 or Stadhouderskade. We entered the building with Heineken bottles lining the ceiling and using the self service machines wanted to purchased two tickets with roof top access. Unfortunately, not reserving prior to arriving, the roof top experience was sold out, so we opted for the cheaper tour tickets. Yes, we would still get a free Heineken or two or four. MY girlfriend checked her coat and bag as we queued in the line waiting to be admitted to the start of the tour, as our tickets were validated, we made our way into a stone and brick waiting area that designated the start of the tour. after about 20 minutes our guide finally welcomed us to the experience. We just happened to be standing in front of the guide, who was speaking to the group from up on a rounder and tossed me a circular plastic coin good for "1 consumptie." We had already been give two prior to entering. These would be redeemed later for our free beers. The tour was quite interesting and informational. The guides discussed the history of the Heineken, how it came to the US, the ingredients and brewing and bottling process. I'll admit it did get a bit "commercial" after learning about the beer and process it goes through. Heineken is tied world wide with advertising, so it wasn't surprising to see this included in the tour. The tour ended and we had the opportunity to purchase personalized bottles of the beer. I spent the extra money and picked one up for a friend of mine who loves his Heine! It was finally time to consume some fresh Heineken. Now, like I started this review, I will be honest, it was damn good! Maybe I was just thirsty and yearning for a beer, but the flavor was so much better than what I'd tasted in the US. Think I knocked back 4 beers before we left the bar and picked up our personalized bottle. But here was the cool part. My girlfriend went to pick up her bag and coat and started talking to the gal behind the desk. A few minutes later a young guy working for the Experience appeared and the four of us started talking. They asked where we were from, we did the same and about 20 minutes later, the guy asked if we were going to the rooftop experience. I said tickets were sold out, so he provided us with some drink chits and escorted us to the elevator for the rooftop. We got to the rooftop, grabbed our two beers and joined everyone else out of the roof that provided a beautiful view of Amsterdam. The beer? Fantastic! I had some special version of the beer only brewed for the Heineken Experience. Recommend? Oh hell yes! Great fun. Great experience! It was a fun experience to learn about Heineken. The place tells you all about the history and there is a tour guide who explains the process. Your ticket comes with 2.5 beers which is plenty. The end of the tour is the bar where there's lots of people, and then exits through the gift shop. The experience is pleasant and staff are friendly.
Overall a cool experience thats like a one and done kind of thing. It's pretty made up, but not as intense as the Guiness museum in Ireland. You start on the ground floor and see come racecar displays and then go up where it more of a self-guided walking tour, seeing the barrels. Once you get into the room where you get your pint glass, there's someone speaking to you. Then there's various photobooths (meant for tall people, I was on my tippy toes to get my floating head in) and semi-random activations like a biking activity. The top floor is like a frat house where the floor is so sticky from beer so opt to drink in the rooftop area instead.
Fun interactive place in Amsterdam we visited a while ago and forgot to post. There is an age restriction on young children I noticed to keep in mind if visiting with children. We had a great time visiting and loved all the interactive things we could do there. I am not a beer fan but still had a nice time ... they also had a bar inside with a free beer that I gave to my husband to enjoy. We would come back again if we had the chance- we had a fun time!
A must for every tourist! I'm not a huge fan of beer (vodka/fruity drinks for me) but this was a great experience to see how beer is made. From the history of Heineken to the smelly gross barley/yeast, you'll really see how everything is really made. You even get to try some freshly brewed beer. At some points during the tour it did get a little "Instagrammy". BEWARE: There are quite a lot of stairs. There is an elevator, but it wasn't very reliable. The staff were friendly and were able to answer questions. I highly recommend the full VIP service.
I was reluctant to go to this attraction, as I am not a beer drinker. However, when some fellow non beer drinkers told me they enjoyed the "experience", I put it on our itinerary. We made reservations online on the same day we visited. This is not just a tour of an old beer factory, but a multi-media experience. Your ticket includes two beers at the end of the tour. I recommend adding the rooftop option where you can get another beer or a beer cocktail. There are several options for cocktails and they were delicious.
The Heineken Experience in Amsterdam is such a fun and memorable tour! It's really well put together -- interactive, engaging, and full of history about the brand. Thought it was pretty fun! We did not order tickets in advance and just walked in to buy tickets. It was about 445 on a Saturday and they only had 545pm + timeslots, rooftop was sold out. Appreciated the check in desk- we had a ton of shopping bags and coats, so it was nice to drop off at no extra charge. Tour was crammed as maybe 80ish people were in it at a time. But near the end it became a bit more spaced out. TONS of steep tiny Amsterdamian stairs.. just an FYI. Was self guided yet there were hosts basically reaching the tour paragraphs out loud, but it was hard to hear. You couldnt really do an "audio" tour unless you brought headphones for your own device, which no one had. Some people were playing the audio tour clips on speakerphone in their language, which was distracting. I just read it via close caption option. Near the end you get a small taster then the roudy party started at the bar where you exchange your two plastic tokens for beers. Floor was very sticky lol, but bartenders were nice and served fast. Pro tip: Once you're ABOUT to exit the entire tour there is one more optional customizable machine. It's for wooden coasters or a bottle opener. Had we known, we would have skipped the customer bottle, but it was still a cute souvenir.
I loved this brewery tour! I didn't know so much went on behind making a Heineken beer. The history aspect was fascinating as well. It's a very fun tour because there are a lot of interactive sections, photo opportunities and games. Staff were very knowledgeable and friendly all throughout - they answered all our questions and even showed us how to pour beer the correct way to avoid as much foam as possible. My favorite part was being able to drink a few beers (included in ticket price) at their rooftop which we really enjoyed. They also had an inside section where you could chill and listen to music. Only downside was the disorganization at the entrance. The line seemed ridiculously long until we asked a few people and discovered that if you have tickets you can just walk in, so make sure you buy them in advance! read more
This was a fun hour long brewery experience. A couple of beers and a nice tour of what used to be Heineken's Amsterdam brewery. I've done a few other brewery tours before and this one certainly has the history, As the largest selling European beer in the US, I felt it was a must, and this did not disappoint. read more
Before there were craft beers there was, well, Heineken (among others). Actually, it turns out that Heineken is pretty much everywhere, or at least everywhere that doesn't happen to be Australia, or England, so since I was in Amsterdam I thought that it might be an idea to go and check out the brewery. Well, don't expect a craft beer type of experience, namely because this does happen to be a very well established brewery, though this is actually just a museum since the main brewery is sort of out of town. However, it is still rather fun to visit, and you do get free beer as well. As they say, they like giving away beer. read more
This place is so fun! Definitely a tourist spot but I think it's really enjoyable and it didn't take too long from start to finish so it won't eat up your whole day. It stars with an audio tour, a tour of the the facilities and then free beer! The elevator ride is a fun surprise too. Highly recommend! read more
Came here with my 2 flying partners on a whim and had a good time definitely geared toward the millennial generation but still fun. Allow 1 1/2 hrs for tour can purchase tour packages that include other tours hop on canal tour but we just got the Heineken Experience not one u would go back to after first time but good for a rainy day which Amsterdam offers. read more
*SPOILER ALERT* I believe a tour can be incredibly touristy and lame, but also fun. I went in 2009. Went on a simulator where you pretend to be bottles- I called it Star Brewers. In the process we got sprayed with water (filtered) and heated with lamps (pasteurized) and I was tempted to smack the head in front of me during the bottlecapping segment but showed some reserve. We got to sample the beer before fermentation, which strangely I liked (cold, it tasted like iced tea and corn tortillas; hot, it tasted like corn on the cob water). We had a toast "Prost!" and learned that foam is actually good (keeps in the carbon dioxide- problem is nobody wants to pay for foam). We got to videotape ourselves singing a traditional Dutch drinking song from a canal boat (screenshot). The tour ends with a dark, modern club with oversized vinyl cubes to sit on surrounded wall to wall with a bombardment of pulseating club music and quickly edited video images. I felt like Clockwork Orange's Alex with my eyes forced open on Willy Wonka's boat. Finally there is an actual pub (World Bar) where you can enjoy two more Heinekens (we learned the "e" is called a smiling e--- look at it) on digital tables with cyber-coasters. We tried singing that Dutch singing song but some local girl slapped me. Apparently I accidentally sang that I wanted to farm her vagina. So sing in English is my advice. read more
We bought our tickets in advance [wanted VIP but they were sold out] and went with the earliest time of 1030am and showed up about 10. The lines were already long, including the skip the lines line. The weather was nice and the wait went by rather quickly. We went at "not busy" time, and I can't begin to imagine what "busy time" must be like! It was packed! There was a lot of interesting memorabilia throughout, viewing it was difficult d/t the crowding. Staff talking points were either too much, or too little, depending on your view: too sporadically spaced to tell a story - perhaps, used more to increase spacing / slow the flow. We found the price reasonable for the experience and enjoyed ourselves right up to the tasting room. Nowhere to sit, nowhere to stand and with bad beer pouring [lets face it, when your slinging that many suds that quickly, suds are certainly slinging half a glass of head] - a beer sodden floor before lunch time. Our room is less than a half hour walk. We feel it was time well spent and enjoyed the difference in the flavor profile here vs a bottle of the same in the US. read more
My husband and I were in Amsterdam for our honeymoon and we had a few friends who went to the Heineken Experience and said it was interactive and a pretty good time, so we decided to give it a whirl. I thought it was just OK. Yes, they did have a lot of interactive parts that made it just not a regular boring tour. They would have workers in different areas talking about how their beer is brewed, but if you have been to one brewery tour, they are all the same. We were able to personalize a beer bottle with our last name on it which was a neat souvenir to take home and then in the end they give you 2 tokens per person to get a beer at the bar. However, the bar is packed and they are just constantly shuffling out beers so they aren't the best pours and the beer isn't as cold as you'd like. If you have the time and need something extra to do, I recommend. But if you are jam packed during your stay in Amsterdam don't think you are missing out if you DON'T come here. read more
Above our expectations - got history, entertainment, hands on activities as well as fresh brewskies. The staff/ crew were all fun and truly enjoyed their jobs. That always helps to ensure a fun time. Beer and laughs, what's not to like? This was soooo much fun! Even if you don't drink, I would still recommend going. There are many interactive games and things to do. There's a beer glass game, Dj game, etc. Theres also lots of cool music/videos everywhere. Along with the fun, it also discusses the making and history of Heineken. The funniest part was going through the hallway (right before the drinking area). In this hallway, there is a projection on the ground and when you step, the projection moves with you. My cousin decided to do the worm going all the way across. It was so funny and a worker saw and said "That was awesome! I'm gonna go get you a free beer"! And she did lol Your entrance fee includes 2 free drinks which are redeemed using the green buttons on your entrance bracelet. I decided to get the xtra cold heineken, so delicious! Not sure if it was just me, but the beer tasted sooo much better there lol Lastly, the gift shop has a lot of cool things. I got my dad a glass with his name etched into it, and a few other things but the Heineken shoes I got were my faaaavorite! They're so nice and I haven't seen them online so I'd recommend getting a pair for yourself there. read more
Awesome! Typical self guided tour of a brewery for 22 euros and they give you a rubber wrist band that have two plastic buttons. You exchange a button for a 12oz draft beer at the end of the tour. They also have a VIP tour that is guided and you taste different beers with cheese or whatever. They show a small movie with a cool sound system, Super HD video, and vibrating floor. Pretty cool. At the end is the tasting room that is more like cool bar with music and actual pouring contest. read more
Any excuse to drink before 11am! I love Heineken and was pretty excited for this. When we got there, there was quite a long line of people waiting to buy tickets. Instead of waiting, I saved time by purchasing the tickets online via my phone and saved a few euro doing so as well! The experience was quite enjoyable from the history of Heineken, to how it's made, and of course the two free beers at the end. Also, we were given a free bottle opener for coming to the tour in the morning. read more

For what we paid I wasn't overly impressed. Granted this is a must when coming to Amsterdam I was glad I did it, just to say I did it. We arrived for the final tour of the day and had about 45 minutes to breeze through it all. The tour was self guided for the most part with the occasional tour guide waiting around the corner to tell you all about heinekens history. Many Heineken themed games and activations crowd the remaining floors above the actual brewery (rugby, bike riding, Heineken and the NBA/soccer etc.). Towards the end of the door we walk into a room and had one minute to line up in groups of four; not knowing what was waiting for us in the next room. We stood in our groups in the next room; it went dark and we stared at the ceiling to see the life of a Heineken bottle. The ground shook, and they had a few other special effects but it felt like way too much. At the end of all that we received two beers and left. Could I have done without the tour and saved $44?....absolutely read more

We had so much fun! Even if you're not a beer lover, you will have a good time learning about the beer, using the selfie stations and other interactive stations set up around the building. Our favorite part (next to the bar at the end where you cash in your two tokens for 2 drinks), is participating in the "pour the perfect Heineken competition". Not only can you play bartender for a few minutes, but you get to drink an extra beer because you keep what you pour. Highly, highly recommended! Also, we had a hard time getting the label machine to type my fiancé's name on his personalized bottle (apparently his name is a curse word in Dutch). A man named Sander, who works in the gift shop, helped us out and made sure he was happy with his bottle before we left. He even gave us some lunch recommendations in the area for us to check out during our stay. Thanks Sander! read more

I was a little worried when I booked tickets for my family and I to go here because I had heard such mixed reviews. But, I'm so glad I went and checked it out for myself! We had such a great time from start to finish. I bought tickets for 11:00AM on a Friday, which meant no crazy crowds. I'd definitely suggest going at a time where it's not likely to be busy because there's a lot of stations that you can check out and I can't imagine the lines that would form at each one. What I loved most about the Heineken Experience is how interactive it is. It wasn't just about learning the process of brewing Heineken and its history. They made sure you were engaged and were always having fun by including hands on activities. We even got to customize our own bottle to bring home, which made for great gifts! Although this is a self guided tour, there were areas where a guide was present and they'd go over some facts with you. It added a nice mix to the whole tour. Once you're done exploring, you go to a nice, spacious bar area where you get to enjoy two glasses of Heineken. My mom, sister, and I had such a great time here. We couldn't stop raving about it to our friends and family once we got home. Definitely a place to go to with others (not so much solo) and go early! read more

I visited the Heineken Experience with three friends while in Amsterdam. I'd recommend it to someone a) visiting with at least one friend, b) interested in drinking beer, and c) happy to spend 18-21€ for less than two hours of entertainment (which, given the other museums in the city, is certainly a factor to consider). What the museum does well: Create a lively and social atmosphere where you and your companions can take cool pictures, partake in various activities (table soccer, karaoke, and even a bit a DJing), and, of course, drink a few Heinekens. What the museum could do better: Cover the company's history more thoroughly. While I don't expect a brewery tour to turn into a history lesson, we noticed that the first few rooms (all of which concern Heineken history) spend a fair amount of time looking at the company's first seventy years (1860s-1930s) and more recent developments (1980s onward). A friend of mine noted there was no mention of Heineken during or immediately after the Second World War. read more

I travelled to Amsterdam randomly for a solo trip. While there I found some things to do and the Heineken Experience was suggested to me. It was very cold outside and at check in the took our coats so we wouldn't have to hold them. The tour was awesome and interactive. You see how everything is made. They even have the first bottle of Heineken ever made on display. Towards the end you get free beer so that's a plus! I even met a couple of new friends from Dublin while there! read more

If I could give the VIP tour at Heineken more than five stars I would. When I travel and locally I enjoy doing various wine and beer tours. I've been to one such as Guinness and wineries in Napa. This tour was the best one that I have gone on. It gave in-depth information regarding Heineken, it's brand, and it's legacy. On this tour you were able to see behind the scenes areas, memorabilia and other things that you normally would not see on a brewery tour. At the end they did a pairing of different foods with five beers. I've never had food paired with beer on a tour! It was interesting to hear about the different foods that go well with various beers. The tour guide was AWESOME and made the experience fun. You get to go into a private bar area for the tasting and get a stunning view of the city from a rooftop terrace. To end the tour you get a personalized bottle of Heineken to take home. A must do if you are a beer lover. read more

I am a wine snob... not a beer drinker... and certainly not a lager drinker. But, after this experience I am actually a convert! In the event I cannot purchase the caliber wine I prefer, like when in a casual bar, I WILL now be selecting a Heineken in place thanks to this tour. Take the VIP tour. Only way to go. Especially if you can get a guide as awesome as Romain. Very knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. Heineken should be proud to have such an employee. I can't speak to what the general experience is like but there is no way it is in depth as the VIP. we got to see areas generally not open to the public snd sample many varieties, side by side, under the Heineken umbrella. read more
I absolutely loved this place. I came to visit here and truly enjoyed myself. My brother and I visited this placed as we heard many reviews about the brewery. The parking situation is different there because everyone is doing bikes or uber. I would suggest one of those options. If you search google online you are able to purchase very reasonable tickets to visit this spot. Once we arrived the staff was friendly and the security had everything in order. Since I was visiting from the U.S. I was unsure if we would be treated as foreigners. The tours start promptly on time each hour so don't be late. The videos played in the different tour rooms provided quick the history of the beer. What I liked most was at the end of the tour you are able to sample at least two beers so its worth it. At the end I purchased and engraved bottled opener that was less that $10. The staff hand engraved it with my name on it. There are many sovereign options. A must check out experience. read more
This was a cool experience but there are soooo many people at once, it makes it exhausting. They do have a couple "shows" which I thought was a waste of time . The guide said you'd be bottled but it's really just a room with a bunch of screens and bubbles for a few minutes. Lol. The only cool thing to do was to be a part of the beer pouring challenging. You also get two tastings on the tour which was refreshing but still too many people everywhere. We also got to personalize our own bottled Heineken but that was not cheap either. 1 year later, and my family still talks about this tour. It was the highlight on our trip to Amsterdam. Upon checking in and them checking ID they noticed it was the week of my birthday. I received an extra drink token and a party hat. Throughout the entire tour employees were saying happy birthday to me, and some even sang. Besides the special treatment the tour was great! Everyone had fun, and you had the choice to stay with your group or walk off. You can design your own glass bottle at the end of the tour which we did and it was well worth it! At the end of the tour you walk into a "bar" where you learn how to pour beer, and there is a beer pouring contest (I lost) , and you get to use your free drink tokens to try different beers. read more
I will start off by saying I'm not even a beer fan, but couldn't leave Amsterdam without visiting. The experience offers so much including a Champion's League exhibit. The tour mixes both history and modern which was cool. We visited with a toddler and teenager and it was age appropriate. At the end there is brief bar lounge experience (still age appropriate) for all. The ticket includes drinks which the value is well worth it if you drink.You can buy a package which includes the lookout, canal and experience. I would suggest to purchase if you plan on all three. read more

I found Heineken Experience is the best brewery tour I ever done. This is one thing you need to do in the Amsterdam. The brewery tour was consisted of history of Heineken family, video effects, and sample of fresh brewed Heineken beer. In the beginning of tour an instructor tells your about history of Heineken family, techniques and ingredients, how beer is made up, and then he walks you through the room when I experienced a virtual reality ride. That was an amazing. In that room you stand in and it simulates as if you were beer and were brewed. I really enjoyed visual effects in that room, and at one moment it reminded me Disneyland or Six Flags. The tour includes 2 free beers at end and 1 free beer during the tour. The Heineken beer was fresh brewed, and had taste amazing. The drinking Heineken brewed beer was the best part for me. Highly recommend to purchase tickets online because it is cheap. It costs 21€. We enjoyed the Heineken experience. I went with my husband and it was worth what we paid. The tour was interesting and all the interactive events were also fun. We did not get to see the horses, not sure where they were and the person standing there was busy talking to some ladies....maybe next time. I loved the little picture stands with the bicycle video that was fun. Best of all was the bar where you could enjoy beer. I must admit, im not a big beer fan but this beer did taste fresh. Loved the overall experience and would definitely do it again. read more

Absolutely amazing tour of the history of Heineken. I did the VIP Experience and had the best tour guide. She was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. The history of Heineken gave valuable insight on the legacy of the beer. The tasting was great with the different brands offered by Heineken. This was truly an exciting and fun tour. read more

The Mrs and I got tickets for the tour here off the website. Getting the tickets from the website gives you a little discount. The tour is pretty nice. They have guides at different sections that tell you a little bit about the area you're in or describe the pieces on display. When you get to a certain point, you get a small glass of beer to toast. They have some interactive parts where you can get pics and videos taken and emailed to you. At the end of the tour, you get two free beers! The floor is crazy sticky though! Pretty cool place to visit and is good for a one time thing. read more

I mean whats not to love? Beer and fun, I couldn't have asked for more. The experience is awesome. You get to learn about the entire beer making process and you get beer! I thought it would get cheesy but to my surprise it was the right mixture of interactive games, talking and drinking. The gift shop is appropriately priced and the staff were great. English speaking staff so that wasn't a issue. Although your in another country besides the U.S. you feel right at home. I must try if you enjoy beer and fun. read more
