I went so you don't have to... The Heineken Experience, at 17 euros apiece ($20+), is tantamount to stepping into a lifesize ad. If you believe what you see here, Freddy Heineken and his forbearers were geniuses who crafted a superior brew and employed stellar marketing skills. There's really not a lot to tell you when there's only one viewpoint being explored (i.e. aren't we fab?) so they move you quickly through the historical stuff then onto the type of interactive stuff that has little to do with beer and everything to do with the hijinks you might get into after imbibing. There's stationary bikes that you can sit atop while a camera snaps your pic and you email the results to yourself and others. There's a sing-along to a Netherlands anthem, that places you inside a virtual canal boat that you then email to yourself and others. There's a video that you watch while the floor moves and you get sprayed, as you simulate being beer. Got it? Okay, let's move on. Then there's the beer. One small glass is profferred 1/2 way through the tour as they teach you how to properly consume the stuff. I learned to tip the glass high, pour the beer down my throat, and let the foam rest on my upper lip. The real practice comes at the tour end, when you enter a boomingly loud room with sticky floors and rave music to consume your 2 "free" beers. I don't know... couldn't I have just gone to a cool outdoor cafe and gotten 2 Heineken for under $20? Rhetorical question there. At the end, you're dumped into the Heineken shop where there's no end to Heineken emblazoned crap you can purchase. There. Now you don't have to go. You can thank me later. read more

Wow. Located in central Amsterdam, Heineken transformed its original beer factory into a partying museum. It is supremely educational- with young amped up presenters teaching about the major ingredient in beer (water, barley, hops, and yeast). Then they explain the process (turn barley into mesh, cool mesh with hops, add yeast, wait, then bottle). If you survive all that, you are rewarded with 2..5 servings of beer. This place is an absolute must for all Heineken fans that are visiting Amsterdam. It's pretty much a Heineken lovers dream. The brewery is only a short walk from my hotel so, when I came here the first time only to find out they closed early, it wasn't a big deal. I thoroughly enjoyed Heineken Experience. I got to walk around the old brewery to know about Heineken's history, the beer-making process, get free beers, and buy some merchandise! The ticket line wasn't crazy and we were told the whole tour would normally take about 1.5 hours. Once you get in, you watch an informative video about the Heineken company, see memorabilia such as their first bottle, old logos, etc. Then, you'll see the big copper brewing kettles. You'll get to try wort, grind and cook barley. You'll see their stables and a few of their horses. A guy explained the beer-making process to us. Another guy taught us how to drink beer "like a man". There's a room dedicated to futbol since Heineken is a huge sponsor, a 4D "ride" (prepare to get a bit wet), a room filled with screens that show their commercials, 2 bars and lots of tables and of course, a gift shop. They have shirts, shorts, hoodies, jackets, flip flops, clogs, umbrella, golf equipment, towels, mugs, glasses, etc. You can get your glassware engraved and it only takes a few minutes. No drinking for those under 18. Your entrance ticket gets you a free glass but it's a 15-minute walk or a shuttle boat trip to claim it. read more

I am not a fan of beer, so I did not expect anything visiting Heineken Experience. The only reason why I ended up visiting was because my friend could not make it and she gave me her ticket. Even though I am not a fan of beer, I thought it was very interesting to learn how Heineken was made, and the history behind it. In my opinion, the best part was the photo area where you can make your own "music videos" and take silly photos. You can even email it to yourself afterwards! i gave the Heineken Experience a 4 out of 5 because the last time i visited this museum i was allowed to drink as much beer as i could for less than a quarter (price of tour). But that was 30 years ago. Today, this museum is state of the art and located near the Van Gogh museum. The hop on hop off bus route will drive right in front of the building. A great experience for anyone for 18 euros! I was surprised how much they put into this tour of Heineken, starting off with history on the family, how the beer is made and even smelling the barley and hops! You also get to try what it tastes like before the yeast is put in, and then get a taster of the famous beer of Holland. Then it becomes very interactive, like watching the beer go through the bottling experience (and even having an opportunity to pay and have it personalized), taking various photos or music videos that you can send to yourself for free, watch all the long and funny Heineken commercials. Then you can have a glass or two of Heineken that is included in the fare. Was bummed that I didn't get to do my own as they closed it early, so got a larger glass that was ice cold. Not a whole lot of seating space, but managed to find a spot. At the end, you get a taster glass as a souvenier, and I also picked up 2 beer glasses engraved for only 9 euros, that comes in a nifty tin case. It's a little greener now! Netherland's most famous export Heineken beer, we went through the whole Heineken Experience. The tour is basically a linear walkthrough museum tour which includes a ride, tasting education, and two glasses of beer included. Heineken tries to be international friendly so they made the whole tour in English. In the beginning you can have your coat checked. The Heineken guys definitely know how to make the experience pretty entertaining instead of the basic museum setup. The tour is basically includes a history of the company, the beer making process, and then a tasting education on beer. The ticket price is the price of two beers from a pub about Fifteen Euros. You get a wristband which includes two little knobs attached to it for two drinks at the end of the tour. Heineken even has a makeshift bar/pub to let people enjoy their drinks. The Heineken experience is designed to hypnotise you into liking the brand, and oh boy does it get the beer on your mind! With the turn of every corner, you are confronted with the Heineken logo - from old, retro posters advertising the brand to the new ways in which the brand is globally represented now. After learning a wee bit about the history of the brand, you pass through the old brewing factory and get a chance to churn your own yeasty concoction! It is here you can witness the size of this old brewery and the physical labour which went into making the beer all those years ago. You are then taken upstairs into the "Brew You" ride, which is a 4d experience into what it's like inside the factories today. It is here where you make believe you are made into a bottle of beer, sound effects and water effects included. All in all, it's a good, clean laugh, and I promise you don't get too messy or distressed within the ride (I was terrified to go in). You are then taken downstairs to see the precision needed to pour the perfect beer, which is a lesson for anyone who has worked in a bar. You wouldn't believe it but there's an art to it, and simple things like creating the perfect amount of foam can make the beer a lot tastier. Of course, you get to drink the result! You receive tokens to get a couple of beers at the end of the tour which is always welcomed. There's a gift shop towards the exit selling all sorts of merchandise, and it's a good place to pick up coasters and pint glasses as souvenirs. I bought some of the old advertisement posters since they are fronted with pin-up girls from the 40s and must've been a pretty effective marketing technique back in the day since they are gorgeous! Pretty cool if you don't mind all the blatant advertising. The tour really is an "experience", and it better be for 18 euros/pp. I wasn't expecting it to be as substantial as it was. You get two free drinks, a free gift (small beer glass), and close to the end of the tour they even have a "ride". Obviously a very touristy thing to do but it was fun. What makes the experience less enjoyable, especially in the beginning of the tour is that it's so crowded. People are cramped into pretty small spaces early on until halfway through the tour. read more

I'm a fan of beer, and, my go-to, chill-out beer is always a Miller Light or Heineken so I was stoked getting to visit the very first Heiny brewery in the world. It's quite touristy, but it was fun. The place is well organized, has a few fun activities to do, and I liked the video presentation where you feel like you're moving. It was a semi-amusement park type of experience. This is a place that you must visit when you are in Amsterdam! It is a hefty price of 18 euros for the self-guided tour however, I think it is worth every euro! I thought it was very entertaining. The tour comes with 3 free drinks. The tour is similar to any other brewery tours in the U.S. They give you the spiel of the ingredients used in making the perfect Heineken beer, the fermentation process, which takes 28 days, and of course, you get to try the finished product. It was interesting to learn about the history of Heineken. I was surprised at how many kids that were there. I personally don't think this is a kid-friendly place! The best part of the tour is the simulated room, which shows you how the beer is made. I don't want to ruin the surprise for anyone, but you get the full sensory and visual experience of the whole beer making process. I found it hilarious how the floor you stand on randomly shakes and unexpectedly, you get water splashed in your face and a heat lamp shining right above your head to make it more surreal. I had a good laugh. The last part of the tour is the best part, well mainly because you actually get to order beers, but also because they make the place seem like a hip and fun bar. They have about 4/5 floors of stuff. There's a gaming floor with fooseball and PS4 systems to play FIFA. It's fun and interactive. They give you 3 beers. 1 after a little cute 4-D experience and then on the final bottom level it's a bar with music and bunch of people it's like walking into a party lol. Except there's children around but it wasn't bad at all! It was great if recommend anyone to do this it's definitely something to do. Plus all of that for about $27. I walked up and bought it. I see a lot of reviews complaining about lines but lucky for me it was a Wednesday afternoon about 5pm. Was in and like 5 mins. My husband who is not into soccer loved checking out the stadium and hearing about the team and said this experience was worth every penny. The tourguides are entertaining and have great customer service skills...only reason i'm giving 4 out of 5 is because the other employees do not seem to know what they are doing. If i hadn't double checked, i would probably have missed out on this tour, because the check-in attendant failed to look at my ticket before scanning it and assigning me to a group that i didnt belong to...this cannot happen again! The Heineken Experience was a prototypic brewery tour with lots of selfies and not too many surprises. Just like every other brewery, they told us that Heineken is brewed with high quality water, premium hops, and a secret yeast factor for a delicious and distinctive taste. And of course, there was also be a tasting room where the staff enlightened us in the correct way of enjoying a Heineken. But since Heineken is just a pilsner, common sense told me that the tasting room was probably just blowing smoke up my behind. Unlike other breweries though, this one was filled with fun and games. Parts of the tour felt like a frat house with a big budget, and they even played loud, obnoxious electronic music to help feed that perception. There was a room where they showed many of the popular Heineken commercials, reminding us of why we love the iconic green bottle so, so much. The most intriguing part of the tour had to be the free drinks at the end where we got an option of choosing 'Heineken EXTRA Cold'. I was completely baffled by the name. What in the blue hell is extra cold if beer was already supposed to be cold? I have since proposed this question to some of my peers in the entertainment industry. "What's cooler than cool?" I'm a nerd, and I readily admit it. I love watching the show "How Things Are Made" because it explains how your everyday items are made. Unfortunately for 99% of the population they don't care, but I am the 1% that does enjoy having things explained. #OccupyYourBrain. Anyway, the Heineken Experience is a lot of fun. It's not just a museum regarding the history of the company, but more of an interactive experience, as the name of the place describes. There are lot of interactive multimedia presentations to help explain the history of the company. How the company makes it beer and how the brand became global. This place is HUGE with many different levels. I basically spent half a day at this experience. The cool part of this experience was seeing how the specific individual ingredients are combined to make a refreshing beverage. Also, they have photo booths where you can send yourself or friend electronic postcards (I love myself, thus I love pictures of me!) Heineken has their own stable of Clydesdales, which is very similar to that of the Budweiser horses. At the end of the long tour, they have this awesome bar where they of course serve Heineken and you can get to mingle in a bar/club setting with other people. I met two cute girls from Canada there and went to dinner with them, just because we happened to like Heineken. Awesome. =) If you ever get to go to Amsterdam, I highly recommend visiting this place. 4th visit to the Amsterdam and after prmosing myself never to do another boring brewery tour, I finally gave in and decided to give Heineken Experience a try. Expectations were that of nothing more than an ordinary brewery tour and the highlight being the tasting at the end... Boy, was I wrong in so many ways! Yes, it had the ordinary brewery touristy stuff, but I truly understood why Heineken names it the "Experience" as it was an extraordinary sensory experience! You not only got the jist of its legendary brand's history, but dug deeper into it's current involvement into various countries, cultures, environmental concerns, sports and future developmenta of the company and the brand. It almost felt like an amusement park at times as well, as there were quite a few entertaining interactive virtual experiences as well, and my favorite was the "pour the perfect glass" competiton which was fun and rewarding as you got to drink your own perfectly? poured glass of Heineken. I would emplore other beer brands and their tours to follow the Heinken's example in letting visitors get the full 'experience' of the brand and the beer, rather than just "how beer is made" tour which does nothing to the senses, but to only select few die hard fans of that specific brand. I must admit that I wasn't a die hard fan of Heineken beer. But after the Heineken Experience, I must admit that I am now a true fan of its beer and the brand as I've whole heartedly experienced the Heineken green, and its iconic red star! Most Important Information: DO THE VIP EXPERIENCE!!! We had an amazing time doing the VIP portion of the Heineken experience. First impression was very good being that there was a long line, but a guide was out side diligently asking for those who are apart of the VIP Tour. They found us and walked us straight into the building and introduced us to our tour guide. We were given vip bracelets, bands with drink coins, headphones and a device so we could hear our tour guide Alexandra. She was the best and I hope you are lucky enough to get her when you go. Very lively, knowledgeable, and fun! We started our tour in the main part learning about Barley, Hops, and their Secret A yeast! You then get to see the Heineken horses, Different levels to the original brewery such as the roof where they cooled the mixture back in the day. I don't want to give away too much of the experience but my absolute favorite part was the private tasting room, we tried all the beers that Heineken makes, while pairing with different foods. After that you join the rest of the people for an interactive experience and go to the bar at the end to hang out and yes drink more Heineken! We met Kris who kept the beer flowing and the old school music jammin as we sang *NSYNC & Brittney Spears Suppper Loud. . This is a great place to go on a rainy or hot day. It is very nice inside, they keep touting that this is the best beer in the world. There is on portion of the tour that is pretty good and I recommend you do not skip it. The "Brew You" ride. It's a must do. There is plenty of street parking in the area but public transportation is probably the easiest and most convenient way to arrive here. This tour was definitely more than what I expected especially compared to other company tours I been on before. This a self guided tour. In a nut shell you'll walk through 3-4 floors and learn everything about Heineken. Start off by learning their history and how they developed to where they are now. Learn about how Beer is made and what makes Heineken unique and standout from other beers. The whole production and assembly area. There will be an interactive guided Beer tasting area which is very similar to a wine tasting session. You will get one free beer to drink and if you answer any trivia or questions about the presentation you get 1 beer per correct answer. Along the tour there are a lot of interactive areas such as games, video and photo areas. Then there's an area with all the marketing such as the sponsorship they have throughout the world. Then at the end of the tour is where you can get your free beers. You can choose between Heineken draft regular or ultra cold. At the end of the tour is the Heineken store filled with various merchandise. Overall, I had a good time and enjoyed myself. It is rare that I drink and usually do not drink Heineken Beer but Heineken Beer on draft tastes a lot better which I actually enjoyed it a lot. The tour is not short and to help you gauge the tour we were there probably about 2-3 hours taking our time and looking at everything. I do not like Heineken. At all. I think it's awful. However, this is one of the best brewery tours I've been on. It's different in most in that it focuses a lot on technology, which makes it really fun. To demonstrate the brewing process you get on a 'ride' so to speak where you stand on a platform and watch a film where you go 'into' the brewing process. The tour has a ton of interactive tech elements to it where you can see how Heineken ws created and how it's grown across the globe. LIke all brewery tours you get to enjoy a few pints at the end. the tasting room can't compare to the Guiness tasting room in Dublin, but nothing can. However it's very lively. First, I should state that I am not a particular fan of Heineken. With that out of the way, I knew I was going to be in Amsterdam with lots of free time, and touring breweries had always been fun before, so I thought: "Why not?" So, my mates and I took a self-paced and self-guided tour. The tour emphasizes the age of the old brewery - it is filled with artifacts and presentations about the brewery and its history. The old brewing room itself is beautiful - complete humongous copper vessels and stained glass windows. The staff are all very friendly and professional, too. If you have a question, do not be afraid to ask it (even if you do not speak Dutch). The tasting room towards the end of the tour was the one negative for me. First, they blare dance music way louder than they need to. The floor was sticky, too. I understand why the floor is sticky - there are tourists always flowing into this room who want to drink a beer or two and some of them will spill their drinks. Lastly, they were advertising this new beer called H41. I saw the tap handle with this beer on it and asked the staff to please pour me a glass and they said they could not. If the H41 was not available, that is not the fault of the staff working there, and neither is the volume of the music or the fact that customers spill beer. It just seems odd to advertise a beer that you cannot serve on the premises. These things were not unbearable by any means, but they did detract from a mostly fun tour. Overall, if you are a fan of brewing, a history nerd, or just a tourist looking to do something fun in Amsterdam, the Heineken Experience is worth considering. read more

My buddy and I went to the Heineken Experience to get this part of Amsterdam out of the way. You can't love Amsterdam without loving Heineken, and you can't love Heineken if you skip the factory. It was a pretty cool experience. Don't expect tons of entertainment. All in all, it is just a giant Heineken commercial but that shouldn't force anyone to dislike this place nor rate it down. What did you expect to get out of a Heineken tour anyway? In fact, the very most and best you can expect from going to the Heineken Experience is a glass of Heineken. This is EXACTLY what you get.. essentially just a long commercial which itself has it's own commercials where you get to knock down a brew. I had such a blast at this brewery in Netherlands! The Heineken experience is an interactive self guided brewery. There is so much to see and learn at Heineken that we spent most of the day there! Tourist trap that I gladly went through with for the 2 full size beers and the one half size beer. That being said, buy your tickets online ahead of time! Heineken says that this is a self guided tour, but it's just not true. Or maybe they're telling a half truth. They want you to stay with a tour guide, go through a "movie" together, and drink the half beer together. We did not do this. We even skipped the "movie" and they let us through a door in the wall. The last half of the "self guided tour" was actually self guided, which was fun. Has anyone ever been to the red star Heineken Experience parties? They have a little taste of what those parties are like inside. They also let you engrave a Heineken bottle with whatever you want it to say. You pick up the full sized beer bottle (yes, it has beer in it) in the gift shop. read more

Hands down the best brewery tour I've ever been on. Definitely make sure you purchase the private tour- it's soooo worth it. Our tour guide was Tom. He was amazing. We got to text a ton of different beers and food tastings and our own private bar. We got awesome photos of the views from the top of the brewery and a detailed history of Heineken. So awesome that it's still a family owned business. This is the only brewery tour I've ever been on that I would definitely do again and recommend all my friends/family to go to. They even gifted us with our own personalized beer bottle. Loved this tour so much. read more

Get the VIP tour. You won't regret it. The tour guides are fun & informative. You get to have a personalized taste test of 5 Heinken owned beers in a private location & get an additional 2 Heinekens at the end of the tour. You can do the self guided tour but you get to see much more on the VIP tour. There's some fun stuff towards the end of the tour and it's a pretty lively area.
