What a find! I am not a vegetarian or a vegan but I have been exploring more plant forward foods. I have to say Heirloom Food Company makes a mighty fine vegan burger made in-house, filled with healthy lentils, brown rice, beets (don't turn your nose up to beets. The patty did not taste at all of beets) and fresh lettuce, purple cabbage, cucumber and carrot toppings with this melted slice of vegan cheddar on a crispy grilled patty. The Beta Burger had this beautiful grilled flavor to it. It was so good I actually purchased patties to take home. We also tried the vegan blt wrap. All fresh and good in its own right. There's a lot of junk vegan food out there, plenty of processed food without animal ingredients. This ain't that. This is delicious, homespun, feel-good health food that took a lot of thought, a lot of love and a lot of work. Sourcing beautiful organic and local produce, washing and prepping all the vegetables and fruits, making up truly healthful food combinations (mock chicken salad)... it's a process. We were greeted pleasantly in a warm and great-smelling space filled with local art. It's all counter ordering. We settled on the Burrito Bowl and the Buffalo Rice Bowl (I asked for a different topping though- the almond maple sauce from the Vegan Buddha Bowl). They came out fast and both were quite large. Big wow. A wide variety of textures and flavors. The mock chicken salad was fantastic. Roasted broccoli: perfection. I really should have taken some with me but I couldn't stop eating. Food is good but very over priced. It's mostly organic but TBH you don't know for sure because they say they "try" to use local produce when possible as well as organic. My daughter and I went recently and I had a veggie burger and she had a big salad. We had a dessert each which were extremely expensive and small. We each had a smoothie (Over $10 each) Our lunch came to $58 - way too expensive. I have never had a bad meal from here. This place is absolutely amazing because they use all natural ingredients and incorporate a lot of vegan items into their products. I Absolutely am obsessed with their harvest apple grilled cheese with goat cheese and raw cheddar- it's soooo good! This is my go-to meal and I absolutely love their smoothies as well. Lately I've been getting the summer solstice but their almond cherry is amazing as well- not currently on the menu but I hope to see it soon. I have been to heirloom since they first opened and they still consistently push out ridiculously delicious food. Every time I get something from here it's the newest best one yet. This isn't a place you could typically go every day for lunch though, our lunch for 2 is typically 50$ with a smoothie and mains. Keep in mind they do close early (and not on Sundays) as well. I stumbled across this place as I was driving thru CT not intending to have a vegan or vegetarian meal. It turns out one item was good period - not just good as a veggie alternative. And that was the delicious heart beet grilled cheese. The pesto beet goat cheese mixture was divine! I also had a burger and Rueben which were okay too - as I mentioned good for a vegan place. Wow! We went to NL CT for car shopping and wanted a lunch option that was not fast food-off of 395 for ride north..... and we sure found this gem from google "restaurants near me"- we enjoyed the turkey avocado sourdough bread sandwich and bought two so that we can repeat at home tomorrow! Kept trying to go here for a long time they played crazy hours even though they claim to have steady hours and I go there there was a way and I honestly the food is not that good and pretty overpriced for what they serve I suggest just going to where they get it the grocery store and you'll save money it's not like any of the food they prepare here is very difficult to make. read more

Heirloom Food Company is undoubtably one if the coolest things about Danielson, Connecticut! Their menu is farm to table (they offer a ton of vegan options too which is amazing), their interior decoration is bohemian chic, and the atmosphere is very serene! It's definitely the type of spot that you could savor and sit and enjoy for a while! I had a cup of their decaf coffee with a splash of oat milk and added in agave which was available at their condiments bar for my drink. For food, I had the vegan Buddha bowl. They added a hearty mix of veggies to the bowl as well as rice which was quite filling and their meat substitute was by far my favorite part of the dish as it was chewy and had a meat-like texture. Although the sauce they offered was a tad bit too sweet for me, the bowl was yummy and could easily be split into two servings. The price for everything was a tad bit on the steep side for Danielson but the meal and the overall Heirloom experience was worth it! read more

I love this place. The energy here is so positive and I appreciate all of the food selections. They specify vegan/vegetarian on everything and it makes it much easier. Everything they have is delicious but the smoothies really shine. The cherry almond and the peppermint are my two personal favorites but they are all outstanding, better than any I have had or made myself. The atmosphere is always so inviting and the staff is so friendly...always helpful and fast with orders. My favorite place to go in the area and they managed so efficiently during the pandemic...orders were always flawless and the curbside pick up (which they still offer) is so organized and easy to use. I came here with my friend passing through the area & we absolutely loved it! we are both vegan & have been to manyyy vegan cafes, but I have to say this is at the top for me :) I got a stir fry bowl which was a special (not sure exactly what it was called, shown in pic) & it was sooo delicious! the sauce was the perfect flavor & consistency, coated everything well without drenching it; the veggies were cooked to perfection & it was an awesome balance of rice with veg! (i hate when it's all rice lol) my friend got the reuben & he said it's the best he's ever had! I wouldn't normally order something like that but I tried some and it was very tasty! The veggie reuben and the southwest beta burger special. Both melted in your mouth! The beta burger was really flavorful and tasty. The corn and melted raw cheddar was a great addition! This unique eatery is a pleasant surprise in a cutesy small city with small-town New England charm tucked away in Connecticut's Quiet Corner. (Try to visit around Halloween when the town green fills with homemade scarecrows, fun to see.) The food here is all whole grain, always fresh, mostly organic, mostly local, and mostly vegan. Heirloom speaks fluent vegan, as you can choose either cow cheese or vegan cheese. Meat and dairy eaters have lots to choose from, too, so Heirloom caters to both worlds. Enhancing the outstanding food are its three idyllic eating areas. (Even the parking lot is idyllic.) While the indoor dining area is small, it hosts many nooks and crannies that serve as booths, creating an intimate dining experience. The patio and the shaded deck overlooking Main Street both provide for outdoor dining. Exotic plants from nearby Logee's Greenhouse (worth your visit) decorate both indoors and outdoors. During growing season, the outdoor plants are especially bountiful. As are the plant-based foods. They serve breakfast and lunch, with hours recently extended to 5pm. Lunches consist primarily of salads, sandwiches, and soup. The soups are thick, luscious, and satisfying. Order the underpriced bowls, not cups. The sandwiches are tall and meticulously crafted with always excellent ingredients. To truly appreciate the contents, I eat them by drilling down layer by layer with a fork. The salad bowls are wholesome and huge, with many choices for underpriced add-ons that make them larger still. My two favorite add-ons are the "bacon"-flavored and thinly sliced tempeh, and the mock tuna salad. I recommend buying the mock tuna from the fridge unit, and eating it right out of the container while you wait for your order. Yet, wait times are short, even during lunch. And the waitstaff are all friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about all the ingredients. What's impressive and endearing is that the person who takes your order often also prepares it, hence their thorough knowledge of the ingredients. The cafe is only one mile off exit 38 of I-395, and is right on Main Street (look for its small street sign, as the building is set far back), with ample parking in its own lot. You might think this eatery would be a little known, but the good word has gotten around. Lunchtime gets very busy, so try to visit at times other than lunch. read more

I've been meaning to check out this cafe for quite some time, as I'm a life-long vegetarian. I was heading out for a shopping trip in the area without the children or husband in tow, and decided to place an order. I ordered the tempeh "BLT" and while it was absolutely lovely looking and in theory, was exactly as described, I felt as though it was missing something. The tempeh veggie ratio was a bit off, and although it claimed to be drizzled with a sauce, I didn't taste or see it. But I digress. I wanted something healthy after a night of partying and over indulging at a vineyard the pervious night, and that is precisely what I received! I will absolutely order or dine in here again as there are so many options, which is rare for this vegetarian!
