I was looking for a quick breakfast in Plainfield after a medical appointment. this place had 5 stars on yelp and it looked great. the hostess, whose name escapes me, was charming and sweet. she was like talking to a family member. she shared about the purpose of the resturant in providing employment for those with special needs and disabilities. with a chuckle, she said you never know what's going to happen here. I was enthusiastically greeted by a special lady. her smile and warmth were refreshing. this restaurant isn't about turnover. it's about good food and service and a special experience. happy to have went, told my wife and we plan to go back. breads are homemade, hash was homemade, my order was a cup of coffee, 2 eggs over easy, harvest toast and home fries. Husband & I were looking for a place to fill up before heading to some local attractions on our day off and we didn't want to break the bank. Our food was fabulous, our service was excellent, and we were able to skip lunch since the portions were huge. What a lovely bakery & restaurant!!! I am visiting my sister who lives here, and my mission today was to visit local bakeries and independent coffee shops. The lady up front and all the several employees who greeted me were so warm and helpful. I come from CA and I'm always in search of a bakery made bread. I don't like eating store bought bread, it's just not tasty and fresh. I purchased an Herb bread (unable to slice there) and also a carrot muffin. YAY, for Seabird Enterprises!!!!! The Victorian Restaurant employs some of these amazing men and women and what a magnificent way to run a business! You just have to go there! Monday - Friday 7AM - 1:30PM. My husband and I accidently found this sweet restaurant and went in for breakfast. We were very cheerfully greeted by a host of employees. JJ, Jake, JoJo and the truly amazing woman that manages and trains these extradentary individuals is Joanne. I was so impressed with how she made their mistakes turn into instructions with humor. We both ordered black coffee and Jake brought the cups to us, very cheerfully. We were then greeted by JoJo the waitress and we both ordered the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs. Never-ever have we had hash so delicious. We learned that Chris was making the food in the kitchen and we sent our congratulations to him for the best hash ever made! I eat here once or twice a week. The food is always great and the staff is wonderfully attentive. They are very good natured, slightly developmentally delayed but have always gotten my orders right and make sure your coffee gets refills and offer appropriate condiments for your meal. On my most recent visit I had the S1 which includes 2 eggs (any style) 2 large perfectly cooked strips of bacon, a large sausage patty and 2 blueberry pancakes large enough to nearly cover a dinner plate. All this for under $7 and they don't take tips, but a donation can be made at the checkout. So glad I found this place and I'm sure you will be too. read more

Tried a different place for breakfast this morning and were pleasantly surprised. We went to the Victorian House in Plainfield/Central Village on Rt 12. The restaurant is a non-profit Breakfast and Lunch place that has special needs workers doing all the jobs. The food is excellent and portions are big and the price is reasonable. There is no tipping (due to being non-profit), but donations are accepted. They bake their own bread, bagels, etc. and grow their own vegetables. Everyone was courteous and friendly and attentive to our needs. They also sell the bread they bake along with muffins and cookies. Bread is $4.50 a loaf. We will go back again. This place was amazing, I honestly created a yelp page just to review it! My fiancé and I were about to take a 2 hour drive back home from Foxwoods and decided we wanted to stop for breakfast. I saw the good reviews and we went in to try it. We loved that the purpose was to provide people with disabilities like Down syndrome a chance to learn cooking, gardening, and baking skills! The food was the best that my fiancé and I have had in a long time! He got the biscuits and gravy (said it was the best he ever had, and that's his favorite dish) and I got eggs, home fries, and toast..that homemade toast was the BEST! We stopped for lunch and found it was a very homey place with a real "ben n breakfast" feeling to it like you walking into somones house for a homecooked meal. We had a couple wraps and they were great. It appears as though they work with the handicapped because 90% of the staff had mental disabilities which we thought was really cool that they were given responsibilities and job duties and they seemed to love it. My friend's and I fell upon this hidden gem on our way home from Foxwoods! We had the grilled cheese and bacon on homemade wheat bread which was one of the best sandwiches ever! The cornbeef hash, eggs,bread and homefries were also amazing! All of the staff was welcoming and warm. This is a wonderful place. It is staffed with people that have disabilities and provides them with job training and life skills. The food is wonderful and ALL HOMEMADE! The bread is wonderful, I have ordered it for holiday meals! They do not allow tipping as it is a NON-Profit organization, however they do allow donations. Today my friend and I went to the Victorian for lunch. He knew of the place but it was new to me. Since we go to restaurants to eat, I'll start with the food. I had a grilled cheese with bacon, a cup of corn chowder and a Diet Coke. Portions were more than ample, the grilled was perfectly cooked. The corn chowder was tasty with the right ratio of liquids, corn and potatoes. Price was very reasonable. Service? As has been mentioned the wait staff are developmentally challenged. Someone has done a great job teaching these young people the skills to do the job. Our waitress may not have been the fastest in writing down the order, but she was meticulous about it and then had me look to check that she written it correctly (she had). So to recap, one star for cleanliness, one star for taste of food, one star for price, one star for training given to these young people, and one star for the service - five star experience. read more
