New business in the regrettable "Mansion Square" development that just opened in 3/12 at the…read moreintersection of Balltown Rd. and State, across from Mohawk Commons, this is a standard-issue Vitamin Shoppe, with a large array of supplements and vitamins ranging from the essential to borderline patent-medicine quackery. The prices for the few things we've purchased here aren't overly competitive but it's convenient for children's supplements, this being the only place in the area we've been able to find competing brands of child-specific formulations prescribed by our pediatrician. The staff were helpful and relatively knowledgeable about stock, but this is yet another franchise desperate to get you on their mailing list via discount cards and coupons, and I continue to resent having to go through the routine of declining this on every visit. My general advice when visiting such a place, to avoid being up-sold or purchasing something you're not really clear about, is to research what you want BEFORE going in so you're making your selection based on your own needs and what science you can bring to muster on the topic, and not the bag of retail store tricks (to which we are all vulnerable no matter how well-informed).

This is my go to store for my multi-vitamins and protein powder. It's the only store locally that I…read moreknow of that carries my TwinLab vitamins. The price is reasonable. I get either the house brand protein powder or Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey. Both go on sale twice a year for buy one, get one half off. Other times you can save 20% off. So I rarely pay full retail. I always go into the store, but you can buy online. If you auto ship, you save 10%. Because of Covid, they also have have contact free curbside pickup. The stores website is easy to use and up to date on the available inventory. The associates are very friendly and helpful. They seem quite knowledgeable. The store is well organized and stocked. It appears to have something for everyone. There's more than enough parking, and they're accessible from Mansion Blvd. or Balltown Rd. I went into GNC once, but they don't carry the brands I use. I recommend you try Vitamin Shoppe for your needs.

Brenda's cafe has some genuinely delightful selections. I always order Broasters coffee of course,…read morebut then I must choose from several delicious offerings and daily specials. Far and away my favorite of her offerings is her Caprese sandwich made with fresh tomato and basil and cheese served on Heidelberg bread with a touch of balsamic vinegar which adds just enough zip to make it completely addictive. I could eat it all day! Sadly this is normally only offered in the warmer months as the fresh basil comes fresh picked from her own plants. I can also highly recommend her grilled cheese, again on Heidelberg bread.... warm, cheesy, and delicous. True comfort food. She specializes in vegan and vegetarian fare too, happily accommodating the special dietary needs of her clientele. Very smart! The cafe area is an eclectic mix of cushy and comfortable tables and chairs. Terrific for sitting and reading a book. On the down side, there is no Wi-Fi and the cafe hours are limited. If you have a data plan, the lack of Wi-Fi isn't a huge issue, but I think it would do better with that one small change. It would be the perfect place to sit quietly with my laptop and do homework or write articles. So trust me when I say, check it out! And this summer, try that Caprese sandwich -- you won't be sorry!

I eat lunch at their cafe every year I attend Capitolfest, a classic film festival that happens in…read morethe movie theatre on the same block. Brenda's coordinates with the festival's organizers and allows pre-orders before the festival starts, but my husband and I usually go there spontaneously, and we're served pretty quickly despite the crowd created by other attendees. The sandwiches, soups, and salads are freshly made. Sometimes they grill burgers and hot dogs during the fest. They, also, sell a variety of drinks, snacks, and desserts. They now have kombucha on tap in addition to selling bottled varieties, but I usually choose an old fashioned, sugar cane soda in a glass bottle. Even though proximity factors into our decision to eat here, we're always satisfied with the food and the friendly service. As a bonus for Brenda's, I've ended up buying other supplies that I've run out of or forgot to pack. They have a great range of quality vitamins and supplements as well as natural body care products. They make it easy to spend money here!
