Do not believe the hype, this place is just OK ...not hot, not happening, and far from dope. So definitely not a must see but a place to check out if you're already in the neighborhood. Heist is not the place to dance or waste the night away, so don't make this spot the highlight of your night or you'll be sorely disappointed. It's ok but honestly not worth the stop. Came in with a few friends to see who would stop us due to dress code. I got in with Sperry boots on a Friday. They may be more lenient then since they know people may come from work which is nice. Space is super tight, vip tables take up space. Super chic and great music every night. The DJs keep the music live and not irritatingly loud, but loud enough that you can get the music to your bones. Checked this place out on a Wednesday night for the launch of their new alternative lifestyle party. From the moment I walked in I had sensory overload. This place is decked out in all gold. It's very klassy to say the least. The bouncers and bartenders are all cute. The DJ, (Keenan) was pretty dope. He played all the hits a young gay like myself would like; a little house and your typical top 40. They had an open bar the night I was there but my friend ordered an LIT, $16 (ouch). I'm not sure what the prices on their other drinks were. One of the highlights was the manager Kelly, she was such a doll. She reminded me of the fairy god aunt I never had. Two sides to this place. Went here on a Friday for someone's birthday and it was POPPING. Jam packed with people that they basically couldn't even walk in. Played a great mix of EDM and hip-hop I hadn't seen in DC. Went here the night after, or a Saturday, and it was DEADER and DEAD. I mean this exact same place had 4 people inside. Really? Great Spot! I was there when it was "Fly". I have been there about 3 times when the place changed to "Heist". My most recent trip was this past Tuesday (10/29/19). I got there around 11:30pm and it was fairly packed. About half an hour right afterwards it was packed. Music was great. Drinks were decent. The crowd was great. Almost everyone came to dance which was a good sign. I'm definitely a fan and would visit again. Oh! One more thing: There was no cover charge which is definitely a plus and even with that it never drew unscrupulous patrons that night. A shot of Tequila and a whiskey sour was around $33 which is not too bad. I enjoyed myself on a Tuesday night at Heist. This place maintains its tradition by being a great spot on a Tuesday night which is a rarity in the DC area. Even though Friday and Saturday nights are great to party Heist is better off on Tuesday nights. read more

This is a fantastic rip off place. 71$ for a blue label diet that was 1000% punched. I could not even finish the drink. Awful taste, red label would have been a dream compared to it. I confronted the waiters and the answer was: yes blue label!!! My A**!!!!! Avoid by all means. Terrible place DONT GO IF U DONT HAVE A MALE WITH YOU my friends AND I went in with guys outside who were "performing" and we thought they were chill since the bouncers just let them in but it turned out to be the worst night ever. People touched them in places they shouldn't and didn't want to be touched and kept giving them drinks. Underground lounge - 3.5 A very small, intimate, lounge/club and although it was squishy, people were classy and friendly. With the space of a shoe box you're bound to bump into people and if you're claustrophobic this is not the place for you. Heist failed to meet my expectations. With all the hype and generous Yelp reviews, I imagined Heist to be that nightclub that finally brought special to the DC clubbing scene. Unfortunately, I found it to be exactly like every other club in DC that thinks it's LA or Vegas without actually being that good. Lets start with the minimal pros: The music was great. I think it was a guest DJ that night, nice mix of old school and top 40. Also, we had a table and the service was fine. Waitress were quick and polite. And now on to the cons: Heist is TINY. Like smaller than your basement apartment with an entire sided taken up by the bar and then 8 tables taking up the rest of the space. DJ was great, yes, but there was no space to dance. In retrospect, this was actually a blessing as the crowd was equally less-than-impressive. Girls under dressed for a place that bills itself as a high end club; Men over dressed, perhaps to compensate for their lack of physical appearance and even greater lack of game. Also, I met way too many men that were rude and disrespectful (guess that goes along with having no game). This actually kind of makes sense since Heist was relatively easy to get into. There was no line, no cover, and the bouncer clearly didn't enforce any kind of dress code. Go figure. Perhaps this is why they keep this place so damned dark. I have heard of Heist's fabled decor from Chris L (see his review below) but frankly, it was too dark to distinguish any of this. None of the displays marked by gold jail bars were lit up so really, it was just a tiny dark basement. Also, I had the displeasure of meeting the owner who was all kinds of douchebag. I won't go too much into specifics, but he generally had a very entitled attitude. While we were literally doing nothing inappropriate (sitting in a place we could sit actually), he made a point of telling me off the bat "well, I'm the owner", even though that wasn't really relevant to the conversation. He then had the poor waitress come over several times to tell us we only had these tables and to usher people out of a spot so he could sit there and have his minions fawn over him. I'm no expert, but this seems like bad business. It might have been more constructive to schmooze with the PAYING patrons, ask them how they liked the place, and build connections. Maybe this is how most club owners are but I got the sense that this poor man only owns this club so that he can be the big man of something. Also, I've been to clubs in other cities (LA, Vegas) known for their clubbing scene and I've never had this kind of rude experience. I can't recommend Heist. It was disappointing in so many ways and I can't justify unwarranted rude behavior. read more

What is this magical place?? Who doesn't love good " underground" (literally) house music? This basement discotech will keep you going all night long. It's very intimate, but I don't think there is anything else like it in DC. Don't mind the alley way entrance, it only adds to the Alice In Wonderland rabbit hole experience. After leaving a number of dump bars in DuPont, we came across this and were the last to leave. The owner was super friendly too. Offering us drinks and asking how we were enjoying ourselves. Talk about feeling like you just robbed a bank! This place used to be Fly lounge the last time I slipped into the side door around the corner of shake shack. Instead of getting ready to hop on the party plane, I was invited to celebrate the biggest heist ever. (Yay?) Fair warning that it is the size of your grandparent's basement. Ladies be careful of the tumble/fall/you shouldn't be wearing stilettos anyway, type of stairs on your way in. One bad move and the "dance floor" is within reach of the bar and if you walk 3 more steps there's the DJ booth plus tables. Potential drinks spilling on you depending on where you are. Gun references are all over this place and even though I didn't check out the bathroom I'm sure there's gun powder for soap. The bouncers and bartenders were nice which as a whole doesn't happen too often. All were laid back. Our drinks were overpriced but one of us got a redbull for free. Despite the freebie we landed at a table in the back for the time being. The DJ was alllll over the place. He always switched right as the song got good, making it hard to get into the music. I hope they have a different one each time because he was no good. We stayed for almost 2 hrs before bouncing. I'll come back but it is going to take a lot more to make me stay. read more

I used to go to this place when it was called Red, and I even went back twice when it was the Fly Bar because I missed the old place. I admit, I spent more than $100 here. Now, when you spend more than $100 for 3 people you should be wanting for not that little, but I was. The acoustics were terrible; besides the terrible deejaying, I got 90s production quality with the lights and sound, about as good as Polly Esther's (which tbh at its height was not that bad, though they were nowhere near Heist cover). Anyway, Red's speakers were much better placed, more for an intimate venue with less listeners instead of trying for a stereophonic picture for everybody which didn't happen. I've noticed the same thing before: bad sound for near-premium price, and if you want to dance at Fly? forget it, You will get laughed at. Their clientele are scared to admit any weakness. No, dancers are not welcome here. read more

Surprisingly one of better dance clubs around the DC especially in the 'popping' nightlife Dupont/Farragut area. Good range of DJ music to get jiggy with it, decent drink prices, not rude bouncers/security folks. Only downside is relatively cramped dance floor & how hot it can get with too many folks like most clubs. read more

I am in between on this review, I would like to give it three and a half stars. This place is a typical DC night club: Long and narrow shape and dance floor, seats lining walls, and overpriced drinks. This used to be fly lounge and prior to fly used to be Red. The bouncers were nice, the bartenders were nice, and the DJ had musical ADD--could not play the same song longer than 30 seconds. However, he did play Heads will roll by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, so he gets some points. The crowd is typical for DC, but on the night that I went there were older people there like men in their 60s who would stare at you and make you uncomfortable as possible. The place tends to fill up around 12pm. I got there at 10 as it opened. They have specialty cocktails that run from 12-16. I would get one of these as a rail drink is $10. You do get a bigger glass if that helps at all. I would most likely come here again. read more

in a city that has many bars and clubs, this one stands out to me as the best! i frequent clubs on the weekend and in dc, they get incredibly crowded and sometimes just un-fun because of the crowd. this one gets crowded- but is in a good way! the music and dj's are always amazing and play diverse music (shoutout the oldies). a great, intimate spot to dance, and the staff is always smiling and willing to make sure you have the best night. i've also been to a few private parties here and they are amazing. the perfect amount of intimate. read more

Heist was amazing!! I celebrated my birthday here and got table - It was honestly beyond perfect. I requested the table next to the bar, and it was big enough for all of my friends to enjoy. While the club is small, it wasn't too packed when we went so there was plenty of room for us to dance without elbowing anybody. I LOVED the decor and music. Piero and our server were amazing and did such a great job taking care of me and my friends. Overall my birthday was perfect and I couldn't have asked for a better place to have it. read more

Came here for my birthday on a Saturday night at the end of September with a bunch of people. The vibe of the place was exactly what I was looking for -- fantastic theme, great music, and sophisticated people. Everyone was well-dressed, nobody was sleezy (unlike in some places across the street), and everyone was having fun. I don't drink, so I can't attest to the drinks at the bar -- but the group I was with looked happy with theirs. It was very crowded, hard to move around, but it was okay because no guys were trying to grope or grind on you like any other place (definitely appreciated the crowd). I'm excited to go back! I think I picked a good place and I had a fantastic birthday -- 90% of my group were visiting from NYC and NJ and Heist definitely gave them a positive impression of the DC nightlife (motivating them to come back and visit ASAP!) read more

My memories of Heist mainly consist of champagne, sparklers, bull horns, and gold...definitely not a bad place to spend an evening. From the unmarked, large bronze doors everything about Heist screams grandeur on a subtle scale. With a theme devoted to dastardly capers and robberies anyone can feel like a big shot. However, as can be expected with a basement lounge, the area can be a little small for dancing, but with a DJ that isn't afraid to steer away from top 40 any amount of space is an enjoyable amount. DC's clubbing scene is quite dismal, isn't it? Heist is very flashy but not in the upscale way. Think blaring top 40's music in a crowded basement. I don't know what the other reviewers are referring to when they say this is a classy establishment. I guess this is the kind of place you might come just to get trashed and act silly. I wouldn't recommend to people who have any EDM taste or to people who are sensitive to ambiance. I felt very hot and claustrophobic when I stopped by on a Saturday night and was generally unimpressed and couldn't wait to leave (though i usually love dancing!). Pass! read more

Was invited on a whim by a friend, who herself was invited at the last min. We had just come from D&B so we were not dressed for a night out at a club but we were told our attire was okay. Along with a 3rd friend, we decided to go out of pure curiosity. We had been given the wrong name of the club & an address off of Conn Ave none of us was familiar with. The 1st thing I noticed once we arrive at the club was that there was no signs indicating what this place was. Just a bare black wall with double doors. This made me think it was an "underground club". Walking down a dark corridor with stone steps kinda put us on edge lol. Soon we heard music blasting & I immediately expected to see a huge crowd in a spacious area. I was wrong. The club is narrow & very small. Low lighting with candles every where. The bathroom was dark with the only light coming from the sink area, a dimer & a candle( that's why I gave 3 stars). The stalls were pitch black with literally one dim light bulb. The music was a mix of Pop, House, Tech & I swore I heard some Afro Pop. The crowd is very diverse & laid back. Not everyone was into dancing some were actually socialising, hence the lounge aspect. Like all clubs the only seating available was the VIP sections. I can't comment on drinks or price because I didn't have one. All in all I would go back for another visit read more

I was anxiously awaiting the opening of Heist and it has become a new favorite. I love how they do not pretend to be something they are not and I love their concept- so creative and a breath of fresh air for DC. Thank the lord! I really wanted to love this place more than I did. Came for bottle service on a Friday night for a birthday. Bottle service was great in that the bottle girls were attentive and made our stay fun. The actual space of Heist is small, but I like the vibe very much since its more of a place for locals. The place was pretty dead for a Friday night. I went to Heist last night and had a really good time. The DJ was playing good music, there were a lot of young, attractive people, drinks were a little pricey, and the bathrooms were clean and sleek. I never waited for than 2 minutes to get a drink. I got there at 11:30pm, and Heist was full around 12:30am and most everyone was dancing. I would recommend Heist if you want a nice, smaller club to party and dance in. read more
