I'm once again disappointed in the lack of culture in our city! I have to go to DC/Nova for a good time and some culture. The Rooftop was lively and very diverse! All ages were dancing with each other, there were no issues (except for the music, the DJ's skills were ok). I danced so much my calves hurt for days. It was an exhilarating experience! I believe they prepare foods as well. The parking, (as mostly everything in that area) wasn't too terrible, but I wasn't driving either. If you're looking for a really good time with a friendly crowd, don't take my word for it. See for yourself. read more

Who knew that Georgetown would have such great rooftop views? Since DC is not necessarily the most vertical city, you wouldn't expect to see much from a rooftop bar scene. However, I was proven wrong this last trip to DC, and had a great time catching up with friends with relaxing views of the Washington Monument right here at The Graham Hotel. We made a reservation for afternoon drinks on a Saturday, but ended up just waltzing in and finding a seat on the backside facing the monuments. Couches and mini tables lined the area so you can feel free to move around as space permits. The view from here was pretty badass... ...made only better by great company and some good bites. We ordered the Lobster Roll ($15) which came with two, individual sized rolls with plantain chips. The rolls were actually pretty damn good and made for a great summer snack. For sips, we split a Scorpion Bowl ($25) which ended up lasting for nearly three hours! Jaymie S. assured me it was strong, but I had other thoughts. It's so much fun to drink out of a tiki bowl especially in such a Historic city over a great view. We never felt rushed during our stay and ended up hanging out until it was time for dinner. Wish they had more than one bathroom though! A chic place in Georgetown with a great view. The location and the atmosphere are definitely a great place to grab a drink or two after shopping. However, the place is quite expensive and there's no full service ( at least when I went on a Friday afternoon). Overall it's is a great location and worth a visit. read more

As far as rooftops go, the Observatory has decent views of the Rosslyn skyline and the Potomac...but they don't compare to POV or the Hay Adams Hotel rooftop. Drinks are ridiculously expensive, and the service is average at best. In theory, this place is great...in practice, not so much. It is the epitome of why hanging out in Georgetown sucks: douchery with a hefty bar tab at the end of the night. This place has a sense of unfounded sense of exclusivity...you wait in line to get in, you wait for the elevator up, you wait for your drinks, you wait on lines for the bathroom, and ultimately you end up unimpressed. DC isn't exactly a backwater town, and there are a lot of really great places to go, so this place can suck it. If your scene is rooftop views of office buildings in Virginia, sleazy dudes sitting around in circle-jerk formation in the VIP section, and $15 for a (weak) Hendrick's and tonic...well, you're in luck! read more

This review is long overdue. A group of friends and I managed to make it to the rooftop THE ONE TIME that the weather was PERFECT in July! The Observatory obviously up-charge on everything because of location and view, but I was with a group of friends that I haven't seen very often, and was happy to pay whatever it was we ended up paying. A friend was able to secure a section for us, which was appreciated because we were all able to chill and have fun in our own space and we were able to do it without having to yell over music or other people. After miscommunication about their official opening date (thanks Thrillist! tsk tsk) and turned away the first time due to a closed party, I came back at the manager's request and was able to check out the Observatory Rooftop Bar and Lounge for some cocktails this past weekend. All Cocktails are handcrafted or you can choose from their wide selection of liquor. Sit and admire the Rosslyn and DC monument backdrop. The bar and lounge is beautiful: Wood patio, glass, wicker furniture reminiscent of a Miami escape, but panoramic views of Rosslyn and the DC monuments, tres sexy. If your looking for an excellent place to unwind outside during the spring and summer, The Rooftop of the Graham Hotel is just about the best public rooftop bar to do so in DC. Table service is reasonable and you can drink champagne all afternoon comfortable couches. The drinks are excellent and the service is first rate. When it comes to planning a party, the staff is very accommodating. The views are beyond fabulous at The Rooftop. They aren't as monument specific as the terrace at the W, but the view of Georgetown, DC and Virginia are unmatched by anything similar. The reason that we were not allowed to go down the emergency stairs was because it was full of boxes, ladders, paint cans, BLOCKING THE STAIRWELL!! Completely breaking the fire code. We came for the art soiree silent disco. I've been a big fan of the art soiree events in summer's past, and while I would say this is a step down from the live art performances they showcased atop the Beacon last year, it was still a cool event. They had three djs each playing unique styles, and you get headphones where you can cycle around the tunes. They also had a side show with hula girls hooping it up. The roof has decent views of Georgetown, Kennedy Center, etc, and while there's not a ton to see, Alexandria lit up at night has its charm, and Georgetown is pleasant to look at in the dusk. I also liked that the roof wraps around the building in a U shape to give you different views and different vibes. One side was a crazy party with dancing and yelling, and the other was mostly empty and chill, with room to sit and chat and enjoy the cool night air. The drinks were outrageously expensive, natch, running $14 for a watered down bourbon shandy, one of their specials, which did not have any discernible bourbon flavor at all, and $10 for a 10 oz Pieroni. Ouch. Get real, you're already charging $15 to get through the door. Still, we had fun. read more

The Rooftop Bar and Lounge at the Graham is all about the view, which is spectacular. Everything else is just OK. The view is spectacular. You can see virtually for miles in DC, and you get an excellent view of Georgetown. The view is nowhere near as superb as the view you can get in the middle of DC (where "major" monuments are more easily seen), but who cares? The drinks are decent, but not mind-blowing. This bar on the top of the hotel with a pool has a nice view of the city. Not that DC has much of a skyline. The pool is nice to relax after a day of exploring the museums. We went during the day for a couple drinks during Pride. We also came back in the evening before dinner for pre-drinks. It wasn't crowded. A couple people in the pool. I did not have a good experience here. First, upon arriving to the hotel, I was interrogated by the doorman. Here is the exchange: Him (blocking entrance to the door): "Can I help you?" Me: "Ummm, I'm going to the roof" Him: "Who are you here to see?" Me: "I'm going onto the roof to meet my friends" Him: "Hmmmm. Well, do you have a reservation?" Me: "Ummmmm. Yeah" Him: "What name is the reservation under?" Me: "Ummmm (insert friend's name)" Him: "Hmmm. I don't know who that is. Are you by yourself? Me: "Ummmm, well other than my friends already being inside on the roof like I just said; Yeah, I guess" Him: "Hmmm. Okay. Go to the elevator and push R" WTF was the purpose of that?! This isn't Vegas! Now onto the bar itself, it is very small and the women dress like sluts, they didn't even look comfortable. I did not want a side of booty or cleavage with my drinks. They also only had TWO cocktails...TWO! and then spirits with orange juice, cranberry, etc. Oh yeah, and the two watered-down cocktails are $15...and they're pre-made. The bar situation was another annoyance. I walk up to the bar, order my drink from the bartender, and then he proceeds to start using his phone and then talking to his friends. Then he turns around, looks at me, and then turns back to his friends to keep chatting it up. At this time, the manager (I'm assuming) just stood right there while scrolling through his cell phone and showing pictures to the other bartenders. Finally, a woman working behind the bar noticed that I was still standing there and asked me for my order (I loudly stated that I ordered a glass of Prosecco (which they have on tap, so it literally took three seconds to pour) and that the bartender must have forgotten. The manager said nothing. So, she asks me for my last name for the tab and I walk away. Moments later, the manager comes in my face asking me what my name was and telling me that I don't have a tab. After a brief back-and-fourth, he realized that the bartender got my name wrong and then just turned around and walked away. No apology. At this point, I was pissed and just wanted to leave. All this drama, and the rooftop was practically empty. I don't get it. I certainly won't be coming back here. There are much better places in DC to spend $15 on a cocktail. read more

I've been here about a dozen times. The rooftop views are great. The drinks are overpriced. $13-$20 a drink. This isn't New York. I can get over the drink prices, but what I can't get over is the clown they recently hired to run the door on the weekends. White guy, 5' 10'' wears oversized suits that don't fit and quite possibly could claim the title of world's #1 douchebag. I've lived in NYC, Chicago, and Los Angeles, never have I experienced someone so rude and disgusting as a doorman in my life. I got in to the rooftop with a group of five this past saturday 7/6/14 so this isn't an angry post about not getting into a place, this is a post to alarm mgmt. that I and many others will never come close to your establishment to spend $$$ while he is there. A few things this guy mentioned to several people including myself while we were in line: "Pull some wool to get inside quicker" - This was in front of the host Tess which is just embarrassing for women and not classy. "Club 101 - Pay me money and you get in the door quicker" "I lived in Vegas for 18 years years I know everything there is about clubs. Pay me and you get in" "The fire marshall is upstairs. Can't let anyone" Let's 5 people in....There was no fire marshall. Walks up to a woman on the sidewalk "If you keep that look on your face, you'll never be getting in" 5 girls walk up "This is how you do it people. This is how you do it." Don't trust the staff with your CC! I was a victim of credit card fraud at the Rooftop! I opened the tab with my credit card, but as we closed out the drinks were paid by my friend on his credit card. I was still charged for the drinks, plus a very nice tip! I called the hotel for resolution and it never got resolved, then I involved American Express. American Express got the bar to send them a copy of the reciept, which they wouldn't provide me at all!! One of their staff added a tip and signed the bill!!! AND my friend was also charged for the same bad champagne! Completely illegal and not at all expected of this establishment! What's worse than their staff being unethical, the hotel didn't even try to help resolve this with me! I must have called 4 times. I entertain clients there a lot. Never again... read more

Lol. Ok I will say based on previous reviews they are trying to improve. The doorman was at least friendly. Here's the scoop: slow (but friendly) bartenders with no sense of urgency, severely overpriced drinks, very mediocre view. The side with the bar faces Arlington, so you can enjoy the view of Rosslyn's concrete jungle while you are waiting for your Vegas-priced drinks. The other side of the rooftop faces DC, it's an OK view, you can see the monument. Also, this is a very small venue. Crowd is a little pretentious. Also, the guy at the front desk asked us to hush up when we were leaving at the bottom of the elevator. Granted we were a little loud saying bye to some friends in the elevator, but come on guys, it's an effing bar. The pretentious/classy act doesn't fly here, sorry. They just don't have the view or the skill for it. For everything that Graham pretends to be and more, try POV at W. Better view, faster bartenders. read more

Finally a place in Georgetown worth going to. I came here during Memorial Day weekend to start off Freddy Jr R's birthday weekend celebration with a few friends. Walking in, all of us were greeted warmly and led to the elevator going up to the rooftop. I thought it was funny seeing some guys who were rejected out front for wearing shorts and flip flops. Like Lillie Z said, bring your A game. Its not that hard being in a city like DC. It was also hilarious seeing a review by someone stating they were turned away for wearing shorts, flip flops, and tee shirts. There are plenty of other bars in Georgetown that would love your business. Once to the roof, you're greeted with great views looking over to Rosslyn, Georgetown, and the monument. There was also enough seating to go around too, which is nice. I can definitely see this place getting packed later in the season. Drinks are priced as expected hovering around $15 each, but they are quite generous with the liquor here. If you're looking for a good Manhattan, the Observatory makes a good one. I would say The Observatory is a great place to bring someone from out of town for a few drinks or to hang out with friends. Georgetown was in desperate need for a place like The Observatory. This past weekend a few friends and I decided to stop by the Graham rooftop in Georgetown. Usually, I do not like to go to Georgetown for any type of bar or rooftop. Georgetown can be really boring and over priced. Anyways, when we first got to the rooftop, there was a line. I absolutely hate lines! I think lines are so pointless and ridiculous. This line was really short, but it was not moving. After 10 min passed, I was so ready to go; but my cousin was so adamant about getting into this rooftop. The line just wouldn't move! Finally some girls behind us went and talked to the bouncer and they let us in. I felt bad for the people in front of us who were still waiting in line. I really wouldn't wait in that line ever again. The Graham is also a hotel with one elevator, so it's super slow. Finally, after that long wait in line and the slow elevator, we were upstairs. The rooftop was pretty amazing, only because of the view. The view was great, you could see the entire city from this rooftop. There is a front and back portion of the bar, where you can even see the Kennedy Center. The actual bar itself is small, but it wasn't too crowded with people. After checking out the view, we finally decided to get drinks. Of course the drinks are expensive, it's a rooftop in Georgetown! We paid about $14-$20 for drinks. They had some sort of sweet punch, which was their "special". The punch was pretty sweet and flavorful. The bartenders were super friendly. Actually, the entire staff at the Graham was friendly. They have hostess walking around and checking on people constantly, which I loved. We walked around, met a few people and then decided to leave around 1am. The crowd here is pretty interesting. There were young people, older men and women looking for love, and hotel guests. It was a weird mix actually. The noise level is pretty low, no yelling or dancing here! Also, there is no DJ, only speakers and one bathroom; yes, only one bathroom, so don't drink too much! Overall, I wouldn't go here if you were looking for a party. The Graham is a great after dinner spot or a pregame type thing. If you just want to have a relaxing night with a great view, I would definitely stop by the Graham. read more

The service people were incredibly nice and friendly to me, opened doors, talked to me about the hotel, directed my drink choices, etc. I will say that this is a mother fucking classy ass place and you need to bring your A game. Great views but I'm warning you right now that it's not shaded. Definitely a place to come early with a group of friends and stalk out a section of couch seating when the weather is between 65-85. You will prob roast if it gets hotter... Wish there were more places to sit as a twosome but that's prob the extent of my "complaints". Gets fairly packed after 630. You have to go to the bar if you want drinks, they ain't coming to you. Nothing in the way of bar food- gotta go to the restaurant downstairs for that. Didn't see a menu circulating either but their "specials" were basically displayed on the bar - all delicious and tastefully mixed - and honestly if you're going to ask to see prices you're in the wrong place bub. But come on, you are paying for the views, vibe, and people watching. (Definitely almost exclusively white and beautiful. But hello you're in Georgetown, what do you expect?! I may have been the only Asian and one of the few minorities...) This place caters to the beautiful - young and old - and predominately preppy/fashionable/hip, most of whom seem like regulars or would be regulars and possibly who all associate at some point with each other. Decided to stop by after an afternoon of Sunday shopping. The music was a hot mess! Anywhere from reggae to jazz to a bad cheesy acoustic remake of a Michael Jackson's Billy Jean to music in Portuguese?! The view was nice but you can find better in DC. As for the drinks...overpriced and not worth it. Same cocktails at Morton's, but more volume/quantity per drink at Morton's down the street. The drinks were also served in plastic cups. Drinks at the observatory, yes please! This newly opened rooftop spot features stunning views, a stocked bar and plenty of cute seating areas. I came here on a Wednesday night. I expected it to be practically empty but I was very wrong. There was a decent crowd there for a Wednesday evening. The roof is perfectly lit for the evening, it is not too dark (hem, Brixton!) or too bright. The bar has a larger front portion but wraps around the hotel with smaller more intimate seating. One thing I didn't like was that they did not have a drink menu. I love to try new drinks and I'm almost always willing to pay and extra few dollars to try something new and creative. They did have some punches, I had the one with vodka, mint, and lemon. It was good but not fantastic. Our drinks came in plastic drink ware, I assume this must be because some type of regulation because it seems bizarre for such a nice place to not use real glassware. At $14 dollars its by no ways the cheapest cocktail in the city but the views are incredible and we are in Georgetown. Treat yourself! As with all bars in Georgetown you are bound to meet some great and amusing characters. Last night it was an intoxicated group of men who played on a polo team, name dropping left and right. Like Lillie Z. says it's exactly what you want from a Georgetown bar! The service was great. The doormen were friendly and polite. View and open air are pretty nice here, even if District regulations prevent one from getting soaring top high on a building rooftop. The atmosphere is fit for Georgetown. The prices and attire, the furniture and decor, the people and the ambiance. It's a fun time for a night out. I recommend it- as long as it's not snowing or raining, it's awesome. read more

I went here with a group. We were in the basement bar, which is very swanky. We were originally supposed to be on the rooftop, but a pipe burst or something so we had to try out the basement bar. Don't let the word 'basement' prevent you from checking it out. It has a nice ambiance; fireplace and they have the sidecar drink! I love that drink. Any place that serves that drink is A-ok with me! The food there was eh, sub-par to me. I had the chicken club sandwich with the French fries. The fries were good and well seasoned, but the chicken tasted like it was boiled or something. I didn't find that too appetizing. Bottom line, go here for drinks. I think it would be an awesome place for after dinner drinks or a date. I will be back in the summer to try the rooftop. It is fun when the sun still up and not so many people around. Just a heads up this place is not a smoking free zone. The cigar smell is too obnoxiously strong. I had to get out of there as soon as I can to get a fresh air to breath. Blah! The last time I was here for private event and stay over after that, I did not remember anyone smoking. This review is for the roooftop only. I stopped here on a Wednesday evening for a couple drinks with a friend. Obviously, a great view - and really unique in that its the only spot to see all of Georgetown from that perspective. Most rooftop bars in the city give a great view of downtown, so its pretty cool to have such a view of Georgetown row homes and M street. There was an event going on that night so the couches were reserved. No big deal, I grabbed a two seat high boy and waited for my friend to arrive. Immediately after sitting down with my drink, a waitress/hostess approached me and asked if I was using my chair. Yes, I explained my friend would be arriving shortly, so sorry its taken. Her response was "Oh. Well the event only needs two more chairs, but... don't worry, I'll figure it out.." Kind of rude, no? I'm a paying customer and frankly don't care about your event. That wouldn't have been that big of a deal, except that an hour later another waiter/hostess approached my friend and I on our second cocktail and said "Ladies, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we have a reservation for 2 at 8:15 and we need your table." First of all, it was 7:45. Second of all, the party wasn't even there yet. I said sorry, but we're still enjoying our drinks- we'll leave when we're ready to go. Obviously irritated, he walked off only to appear ten minutes later with: "Don't worry, I moved that couple to another table so feel free to stay at your spot." YES, the drinks are expensive but no more than any other spot in Georgetown, and YES they ask that you dress "Georgetown chic" (yes, a ridiculous description), but I get it and don't think its terribly offensive (how hard is it to not come in a sweatshirt and sneakers?). This is my first time here at the Rooftop Bar and Lounge so this is why its getting only an average score will have to come maybe earlier and experience the entire ambience and food which is something I did not get to experience on last night. I'm not sure why they closed the kitchen so early it was barely 9:30 when I was told the kitchen was closed?? Uhmmmmm.....really? Folks drinking and need some food to soak this alcohol up...but I guess maybe the weekend its open later? I came here for a group event on a Wednesday evening. I was unimpressed and think that there are significantly better venues for group events in the neighborhood. First off, the service was terrible. I've never been to an other place where it took so long to serve 3 customers drinks. The bartender appeared to be clueless as to how to serve a customer. This problem was only compounded in our group when more people started showing up. At it's worst, it took people 20 minutes to get a drink. Secondly, the drinks are over priced (~$12 cocktails, ~$7 beers) and not great. This is great if you're a guest at the hotel, but not if you're a local looking to host an event. Finally, table space at the place is limited. It's kind of awkward to get around and make an order. There's no server service, so you have to make your way to the bar area. There are better places to have a formal group event in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. read more

Brought my boyfriend's parents here last Sunday on that beautiful Sunday afternoon we had. The bouncer downstairs told us that normally flops on a guy weren't allowed, but because it wasn't busy, he would let us in. Plus one for that nice guy. We went in and fell in LOVE with the ambience. Also, his parents just wanted lemonade and the blonde bartender at first was hesitant to make it(she probably wanted to serve alcohol) but after she got over it and made fresh lemonade and it was delish. Stopped in with a group of friends for drinks after hearing some good reviews of the place. The view was great and I like the small, intimate setting. The drinks on the other hand were ridiculously overpriced and not that great. Any place you have to pay 18.50 for a bourbon and coke, should be ashamed. That is half of what a bottle of Angel's Envy would cost me! The French martini's were mediocre and I've had better Negroni's. Not a huge fan of the place, but I do like the rooftop vibe. read more
