Post brunch and pre-day party, a group of friends and I stopped into 1831 for drinks and conversations. It was a very intimate bar with great service and a good atmosphere. They had great specials when we stopped in: $2 shooters, $3 beers, $5 mixed drinks. It was also pretty cool that I in the upstairs half of the bar there was an impromptu art gallery in progress. Overall, this place had charm and character. I would definitely return to experience this bar again

Met a co-worker for Happy Hour & after a 10 minute stroll from the Farragut North Metro Station-Red Line, I was here. 1831 is nestled between other gathering spots on the heavily populated M Street. A few steps down & your inside a posh & vibin' lounge. We lucked up on a comfy circular leather couch in the front. There's a few small tables window side & high top tables lined against the wall heading towards the back. On the 2nd level where the restrooms are located theres booth seating & TV's. Awesome service from Tiana, who gladly ran back & forth between the bar & our table to accommodate us. We ended up sharing some of our space with a small crew of Peace Corps volunteers, who were high spirited for the extra seating & we all ended up having a good time. For music the satellite radio plays before the DJ spins, bar & full menus & Happy Hour from 4P-8P.

This was a great place for New Year's Eve until I got kicked out. I want to rate this place from 5 to 0 stars if I could. I fell down the stairs due to slippery floors and stairs because of spilled drinks. There weren't any "caution wet floor" sign and the bouncers decided immediately to kick me out without reason. 1) they didn't even ask if I was alright 2) they didn't even ask if I needed help or needed a paramedic 3) there were no caution signs due to wet floors. I could have been severely Injured and due to that, I have a terrible huge bruise on my back thigh. I have a photo to prove it. Never going back to this place, I understand everyone was drunk and having a great time, but this shouldn't justify any reason to kick anyone out based on your assumptions if the person is "drunk" or not. What do you expect? It's New Year's Eve. Be reasonable next time instead of stupid BS. Sincerely, Very disappointed first time guest

I swear these were the best fries ever!!!!

Went here to celebrate my friend's new accomplishment on a Friday evening. Found this place via Yelp (thanks Yelpers)! Atmosphere was real chill...def an after work spot (everyone had work bags lol). They had a few happy hour specials going...can't remember what the specials were but we had margaritas and shooters AND several bottles of wine lol. The waitress was amaze, she was working the bar and was walking around the bar area to make sure we were good. Music selection was NICE! The steps leading up to the bathroom...treacherous (at least that's how they seemed after a few drinks) lol. The highlight of my night (I had to start a new paragraph for this) was the FRIES! OMG like why would they ever make fries that taste that amazing!! I was so mad at myself for offering folks to have some before tasting them...we all fell in love!! I just got so caught up on the fries, I forgot about the chicken I had...so I had old bay wings as well and they were good! Not sure what the others ordered but everyone enjoyed their food. Will DEF be visiting this spot again...for...the FRIES!! Lol

I went out for celebratory drinks for starting a new job.. none of us had been here before but saw great reviews. We came in grabbed an awesome booth seat. The waitress Bree came over immediately and took orders! Great service Great time! Menu: we went for Happy Hour (3-7) Friday great prices! Food: Old Bay wings, Asian wings, fries No complaints on food-yummy! Drinks were great! Music: DJ played great Hip Hop & R&B music I would definitely come back again

This is one of my new favorite night spots in DC. We had left dinner and were looking for a nightcap, and literally stumbled to 1831. It was a great find. The drinks were reasonable, the menu looked great. The staff were amazing, the football was on the TV. Just about perfect.

Always on the hunt for a super chill bar, good music, happy hour, and food in DC!! I know I know it's hard to find.... but I luck up. Paid this place a visit on a Tuesday night because they are apart of Passport( drink benefits) and now this is officially my spot! The music was a mix of R& B / hip hop the crowd was great and the bartender was friendly. We order drinks and wings ( they have happy hour wings 7-9pm daily and 12-5 on weekends) I had the salt & Vinegar wings but was disappointed they didn't have lemon pepper!! Who doesn't have lemon pepper..... but the Salt & Vinegar was tasty and for $5 it's a win!! I was told they stay open until 3am on weekends... so this place has now been added to my list of go to spots!

The actual hookah was mid at best for D.C I was expecting a lot better. Then when it came to the bill we were charged $4 for each bottle (of which we were not even told there was a charge at all for water, and no we did not specifically ask for a sealed bottle all we asked for was water the sever never said tap or bottled, she just automatically brought us sealed) when on the menu they were priced at $3.50 sure it's .50 but when there was five that .50 extra could have almost bought another bottle. Also when she brought the bill she did not even show the itemized bill at first all she showed was the tip screen which upon doing the math from what we ordered vs paid we realized the amount was way higher than what we got and so we asked for the copy of the receipt only to find out there was ALREADY a service charge on there of which was NOT a credit card charge because we paid in cash and when asked what the cash total was she told us $60.31 yet the copy showed the cash price was $57.91 also they charge for charcoal, what am i suppose to do bring my own charcoal? i've never had to pay extra for charcoal they just include it with hookah price, absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention the vibes in this place is like an absolute funeral, all the pictures made this place look so fun and great, but no it was worse than funeral. I felt even more so like i was at a funeral after I realized how badly my wallet was robbed. I will never come back here.

When our party of 4 arrived, the host took us to the rear area of the restaurant. It was extremely noisy, however much cooler than the main dining area. We asked if we could please be sat in main area as this was my friends first time and we had looked forward to sharing the experience with them. She then let us know that because of the weather it was not as cool and was much warmer. We didn't mind so they went ahead and changed it. Considering I had made reservations it would have been nice to have been sat at a table as closest to the open window. Not sure if this is something you must request when making reservation but it seemed all the tables were marked reserved. That would be my tip when making reservations to ask for a table where you are sitting right at the window. I preferred the shrimp cocktail ($26) it was very refreshing. The shrimp were big and the dipping sauce was delicious. My friend ordered the steak and Buratta salad ($50), She enjoyed it. Our husbands ordered the crab cake ($48) and they said they were very good. We ordered drinks. Moscow mules and gin and tonics which were doubles, and the Witness tampered. If you don't have a budget then enjoy your time there. I believe most places in DC are pricey. My opinion is we had drinks with small plates and I have added the total. Also we only had 4 in our party and the receipt says we had 6, which allowed them to force the tip on bill. Our gratuity was put on there by server so we didn't add to it. Not sure why this was like that.
