Fantastic pool for water fitness! Unlike other, larger complexes, the Helene Madison Pool does not have an open/rec swim that runs concurrently with the water fitness classes. Several lanes are open for swimming, but they tend to be occupied by adults swimming laps. The water temp is great and the fitness class challenging. It is less chaotic than the aforementioned facilities and feels more calming. Staff is friendly and helpful. Bring a quarter for the lockers! read more

I have frequented Helene Madison Pool for a variety of reasons over the years including the occasional birthday party/open swim, lap swim of my own initiative, and as part of my high school girls water polo team (Shorewood High School; Spring 2009 season, my junior year; Spring 2010 season, my senior year). The parking lot is a little on the smaller size, though that has only been a problem in my experience for the open swim/birthday party uses. Lap swim I used primarily during the autumn/winter months when away from my main pool, be it a neighborhood pool or an on-campus pool at university. Desk workers have been professional and friendly. The deck space has been mild in temperature, which is helpful when out of the pool. Locker rooms have been tidy/cleanly. As someone with mild asthma, this is one of the pools where it takes a little adjusting for my lungs to equilibrate when swimming. Indoor swimming pools can be harder on my lungs than outdoor swimming pools (less natural airflow), however after about 30 minutes my lungs start doing better. read more

My daughter had swim lessons here and we loved the indoor pool and the classes were great! The class was mainly about playing games and getting little ones used to the water, which she is 10 months and it's perfect for now. We will be purchasing another swim class when she is ready to learn though. The pool was warm, love that it is indoors, staff was great. read more

I love having a pool nearby. They have a wide array of activities and advertise well in their quarterly schedules and online. My child takes swimming lessons there. The parking lot is small but there is an overflow lot right next to it. The facility has always been clean each time I've been there. I've found most of the instructors (but not all) to be very good with children and to teach in an effective manner. However, I will say that I find their system of categorizing swimmers compared with the schedule to be confusing. I've asked them to decipher it a number of times to no avail. I've given up and simply go in and have them tell me which class my child should be in and hand them money accordingly. Given the amount of public pools in Seattle, I feel fortunate to have one so close by. read more

The instructors here are awesome. My son cannot wait to get to his lessons every week. Unfortunately, this means that it is a giant struggle to get him out of the pool at the end of class. The instructors have to help me drag him (did I mention they are pretty awesome?). He would just stay there all day if he could. The place is clean, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Two large family change rooms make my life easier. There is a lot of parking available. Honestly, the only downside is that the cost of lessons is almost twice as expensive at the Shorline pool. Since we live equidistant from the two pools, we alternate lessons at both. read more

This pool is pretty small but it's just like the pool I grew up swimming in. I'm giving them a full extra star for having a functioning High Dive! It's clean but the seating leaves something to be desired. Overall, it was a good experience for my kid who was competing in a water polo match there. read more

First time back since they reopened, LAST TIME BACK. I'm assuming new lifeguards?? 2 of the 3 were quite rude to myself & child. We have been long time customers & to be treated the way we had been is unacceptable especially when we are paying customers & trying to spend quality fun time with my child. One of the guards was too busy yappin with another guard about personal issues, too busy to listen to any of the children. They all had glum faces, didn't interact with any children or parents. The final straw was when we were leaving & one of the lifeguards said "Mam there is a family changing room over there, your son must be 6 or under to be in the main room with you, so use it next time." All in a bitchy tone. My son turned 7 five days ago...really lady?? I replied "no worries, we are not coming back, lifeguards lack leadership & manners" & then in her bitchy tone again she says "have a nice night!" I'm going to contact the supervisor & taking my son elsewhere to swim. I would give this post 0 stars if I could. I would not recommend this place anymore. Oh well. read more

Pool is a dive like all other Seattle pools. Adequate. A touch warm for swim practice but that should be expected considering the swim lessons. I think every single person pees in the pool which causes the insanely strong chlorine smell. I would not free swim here if I was a family but I use it for swim team workout. read more

Took my kid here for lessons at 5 years old. The instructor was grumpy and impatient with her and she is now very resistant to getting swimming lessons. Lisa P. is the best ever instructor for nervous adults! She has gotten me to make more progress in a few lessons than my useless high school instructor did in four years. She is patient and pushes you just enough. The rest of the staff is very pleasant.Could use better lighting in the parking lot for night lessons though. read more

I thoroughly enjoy the water exercise classes on Tues and Thurs. I've never done it before and abhor any type of physcial activity (how do you think I keep this girlish figure?) but started last week and fell in love. It could be a little more strenuous but it's been a great experience. Tried the deep water class on Wednesday and it was not my cup of tea as I was unable to stay afloat. When I get a little more comfortable I'll try the deep water class on a regular basis. Overall the pool is clean and the staff is kind. The other folks at the pool are all shapes/sizes and I don't feel like I need to hide behind my towel. Here's to my new life as a water exercise goddess!! read more

I swim here 2-3 times a week and am quite satisfied with the place. They keep the locker rooms pretty clean, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I've only been swimming here for about 6 months, so I don't know what their cleaning schedule is for the pool itself. It was much cleaner before summer, and I know why! The "public swim" is also the "day-camp swim" time and there can be literally 150 kids in the pool! The adult swim is MUCH more relaxed, and there's usually a spot in a lane for laps (although I typically have to share.) The aerobics classes seem to be very well attended with many regulars. I'm grateful to have a pool nearby that's pretty quiet and relatively clean. Also, the usual "POOL SMELL" isn't very pronounced, and I don't feel like I'm walking into a chlorine dip when I go there, unlike other public pools in the north end. read more

I started bringing my daughter to this pool when she was 5.5 months old (we rounded her age). We went religiously for 2.5 years and she is now a fish in the water. While I may not have loved every minute in the locker room I absolutely loved every moment in the pool. The instructors are too notch and my daughter can't go near the water without mentioning Trevor. Sadly I may not have written this review if we weren't starting the moving process, that's what it took for me to appreciate what I won't have. The Helene Madison staff and facilities are too notch and my Wed. Night's will always be reserved for the swim class memories. Thanks from Everly's family! read more

A great public pool. I have used it to do lap swimming and once did the Masters Swim. The only difference is that during the Masters Swim, the staff posts a workout written on a white board. I would suggest this only for people with competative swimming background. There isn't any instruction and the terminology is all in swim speak. There is frequently music playing in the pool area, which is nice. I've never seen it super-crowded, and it's clean. read more
