I'm surprised to see all of the positive reviews here as my experience with Helix is nothing like it. Amy, the owner of Helix, is a terrible person. I have observed her, on multiple occasions, being rude, pushy, unprofessional, lying (to favor herself, at times even against her own staff), ageist, sexist, and racist. I have witnessed her making remarks that are discriminating against my coworkers before, for age and color of their skin. The staff and maintenance team are nice and I've had no issues there. They are actually pretty receptive and kind. The issue is Amy, and since she's the owner, who rules with an iron fist, everyone looks at her for answers and she has all final says. Therefore, even if you get a positive staff member at first- if Amy comes into it and is cranky, annoyed, or just doesn't like you - watch out. My impression is this company does okay in St. Louis because St. Louis doesn't have a big enough market, so people will take what they can get. The property's are "good enough"- although please note, Helix will cut corners on cost whenever possible. It's about the last buck for them and not about a joint investment in their leasers, properties, and profit. read more

We moved from out of state, so we were worried about finding a nice place with good management. When I initially emailed with questions about the apartment, I received a reply from Kevin just a couple minutes later. He was extremely prompt in communicating with me and getting me the information I needed. We are living in the Soho Lofts building and we love it here!!! I wish I could give these guys 10 stars!!! I have nothing but good things to say about this apartment management company. They were AMAZING to deal with and I could not have been luckier to have found them! I moved to St. Louis from Houston, TX over a year ago and had found one of their apartments listed on the internet. I called the Helix office and spoke with "Amy" regarding my concerns and what it was I was looking for. Amy was very helpful and honest with me. She even gave me her advice on the other apartment management companies that were credible/good in town in case I decided to go with another apartment. I ended up moving to St. Louis and into the SOHO Lofts building on Euclid. Immediately after starting work, my co-workers expressed their concerns about living north of Delmar St. - but they could not have been more wrong! First of all, this property is tucked away on a no-thru street and is gated with security cameras. The only crime I witnessed was a few typical car break-ins - and this was IMMEDIATELY addressed by management. They took zero time to hire a security officer to patrol our gated apartment complex overnight. There was absolutely no incident after that. In the winter times, the roads were plowed and salted before I ever needed to head to work. The greenery/lawn/pool area was always taken care of and managed in the warmer weather. "Fred" the apartment super was so wonderful to talk to and took care of any problems/issues I had within my apartment (which was very little). My appliances were good and the apartment was beautiful. When it came time to move out, I was in the market for purchasing a home. Helix worked with me and extended my lease for a few more months until I was ready to move. The fact that they were so accommodating made the transition seamless. On a side note, SOHO Lofts was a fantastic building to live in! It was full of professionals and was never noisy. I always felt very safe, loved my neighbors, and was able to make some good friends while living there. Not to mention I was so close to EVERYTHING the city had to offer. They were one of the few apartments I found in the CWE that had a washer and dryer inside the unit and also had a walk-in closet. It also helped the architecture was amazing - everyone who visited me was amazed at the building. That being said, living in even the most amazing space can be hell if your apartment management and/or landlord is tough to deal with. Amy, Michele, Kevin, and Doug, are great, and will bend over backwards to help any issue you have. I really loved living in one of their buildings and recommend them to EVERYONE who is looking to rent. Their team makes Helix an outstanding management company to work with! read more

Excellent St. Louis realty company! If I were to rent again or needed to recommend a rental company to a friend, I would definitely send them to Helix. I lived at their 4242 Lindell property which was a great building. Awesome neighbors and no issues with noise being on the 1st floor. My one was complaint was the parking garage, I have a large SUV and it was a tight squeeze getting to the back row of parking. Anyways, Kevin and Michele are ideal landlords. My few maintenance requests were taken care of promptly and I never had any issues dealing with them. read more

Excellent management here. They are very easy to work with and rent from. You wont find a more pet friendly building than here. Grounds are kept clean, management is visible, and easy to get ahold of. Convient payment of rent online. If we end up returning to the area, we will be checking here first. read more

My wife and I have have lived in this building for about 1.5 years. The Helix team is always responsive and alert to take care of their tenants. Maintenance requests where always handled correctly and in a timely manner. We are very sad that the building was sold to a new company, but that is life. For anyone moving in to the city, or anyone wanting to move in to a "stress-free" apartment, I would definitely recommend you check out Helix. We will be looking to move to one of their apartments, if available, as soon as our lease is up. ---- I write this review because Helix sold their property (the property I live in) to another company. When I asked this new company about their terrible reviews they told me that "of all the firms in St. Louis we are the best rated one on yelp". The fact that I lived at Soho Lofts for 5 years is an indicator of my satisfaction as a customer/tenant. Had it not been for some changes in my personal life, i probably would have spent more time living there because of the caring attitude and professionalism by the owner Amy and her staff. As a tenant, I can attest that any time I placed a maintenance request for either a minor or major repair, I would not only get a response immediately but they would actually ACT on the request within minutes or hours. Again, as a tenant, even if I wanted to drill holes to put up shelves in the bathroom or laundry room, hang multiple large picutres and drill for the brackets - amy, the owner, was happy to allow this because she wanted me as a tenant to feel at home. This was such a nice gesture. Amy's management staff kevin and Michele were also always there for me as a tenant. The apartment complex was always kept tidy, clean, lawns manicured in the summer and walkway salted to prevent falls from icy surface. I am truly grateful for this! But, now, not as a tenant, but as a person, I can attest to the humanity of the owner Amy who rescues stray cats and pays out of her own pocket for their veterinarian care, builds homes for them and pays for their food. Now that I have moved out I feel comfortable sharing our experience while living here. I would NOT recommend living here unless your budget gives you no other choice (you get what you pay for). For reference I lived in the SOHO apartments on Delmar and Union 1) Pet friendly really means cat friendly. Most of the tenants are afraid of dogs making it hard to be comfortable in your own home. One woman in the time we were there hit my dog with an umbrella unprovoked and threatened to throw a large rock at him with the intension of harming him. When these incidents were reported, management did nothing. The grounds are littered with chicken bones and glass making it difficult to safely take a dog out for a potty break. 2) The elevators were down 75% of the time (thank goodness we didn't have to move in during one of these times) and often had cigarette butts, broken glass, used condoms, or one time even Ketchup sprayed all over the inside. Not clean, safe, or sanitary. A couple times when i was on the elevator, someone was actively smoking and I had to request they put it out. 3) Management does not appear to care about the tenants complaints and once even told us they typically do not follow through with complaints which we definitely witnessed while there. My advice to you is to befriend the maintenance staff, they are the ones that will help you in a pickle and were always prompt and kind to us. 4) Your car is NOT SAFE in the gated parking lot. If you live here I would get a garage space. Our car and two others were broken into during our time here and when the problem was adressed with management they shrugged the problem off, changed the subject, and even called another tenant a liar insisting that he made it up even with the broken glass on the pavement. 5) You can hear EVERYTHING your neighbors say. If you like thin walls, live here. The walls are thick but I think because everything is a hard surface you can still hear it all. There is probably much more, but my point is PLEASE take caution when deciding to live here. It is not a well managed property, you can find much better near grand for around the same price. All that said, being a short walk from the park was nice but it is NOT a good part of town. read more

I have rented with helix realty for more than 3 years. They reply to emails and maintenance requests promptly. Rent is easy to pay online. They were understanding when I needed to extend my lease one week, are very pet friendly, care about tenants' safety, and charge very reasonable rent. I've lived in a Helix property for almost 2 years and they have been great. You can pay rent online, which is very convenient. All of my maintenance requests have been responded to in a timely manner. They keep the yards trimmed and leaves out of the yard as well. Hey all! Just a heads up, they DON'T clean the apartment before you arrive or they "forget" to clean it. This happened to me and a couple of my neighbors. Also, they were terrible about getting back to me related to the apartment inspection which needs to happen a certain amount of time right after you move in, or you're moved in illegally. Yikes! Kevin, the office manager, is great, but I was very disappointed with them. It seemed like I had to remind them to do everything and they often would not call me back. Helix is great. I have really low expectations of landlords, and these folks were always very easy to work with and didn't try to pull anything on me. I had a one bedroom in DeMun for under a year. They weren't in my hair, but let me know when they would be showing it. I appreciated their move out checklist and that it seems to be how they actually check over an apartment when it turns over. I also really appreciate that they're pretty easy to get a hold of via email during the day. read more
