Ariel yoga!
Jess C.

What a great peaceful place to practice yoga! Locally owned and operated. The owner donates to local causes in the community of Pleasant Ridge. She also has several classes across the street like kettle bell weights and yoga flow. Ariel and Pilates at this main location. A place to put your shoes and stuff. Doors are locked once classes start due to safety of the instructors and the clients. They also have several classes for kids. I personally took a self defense class here and learned so much! Parking is limited. Some spaces out front and some on the side of fine wine but most students park at Walgreens and just walk over. Highly recommend taking a look at their calendar!

There is some street parking in front of the building. It is metered. It took me a minute to find it after I parked as there isn't a huge sign or anything. There is a small lobby for storing shoes and purses and 1 small yoga room and 1 larger room for the Ariel silk classes. The instructor was really helpful and encouraging. This was my first class and it was fun, challenging and you will get your sweat on. I had wanted to try this for a while so I am definitely glad I did.

We did a few warm-ups and stretches, and then got right into traditional yoga poses, while incorporating the silks.

We attended the orientation and free class offered by Swift Movement and was blown away by the professionalism, the immersive environment and the friendly staff. My son began his first lesson and was soon climbing to new heights (LITERALLY) within one hour. The equipment is well designed and sturdy. The cost for membership is extremely affordable. However, as a busy family, the nicest surprise was the introduction to the zenplanner app that is used to schedule classes. We can see how many kids have signed up for particular classes, easily coordinate attending special events and even cancel a reservation (with 12 hours notice) very easily. As a member, you are able to attend unlimited amounts of classes and there are many scheduled throughout the week, that my child could attend two each day if our schedule allows it. He is begging to go each day! I highly recommend Swift Movement Studio as creative alternative to typical fitness classes for both children and adults.

I joined Suspend in August 2018, so I have been attending classes regularly for a little less then…read morea year at this point. There are many reasons I love coming to Suspend, but for my review I will focus on the top 3 reasons you should check it out. THE FACILITY The location in NULU is super convenient if you work downtown like I do. I love to drop in after work for a class or two before I head home. Suspend has several rigging points that are checked regularly for safety. They offer lyra, trapeze, silks, rope, pole, acro, juggling, hula hoop and a variety of other classes. There are occasionally even workshops to learn unique skills such as unicycling. The facility is clean and inviting. I especially love all the beautiful artwork featuring aerialists decorating the gym. KNOWLEDGABLE STAFF The instructors never seize to impress me with not only their knowledge of the aerial arts but with their ability to explain things in an easily digestible way. No matter your level (I am a beginner) they can get you on the apparatus safely challenging yourself to do new things. Every instructor is focused on proper form and doing things correctly to avoid injury. There are even classes like Flexibility & Mobility and Aerial Conditioning that I find quite helpful. COMMUNITY This is one of the most welcoming places I have ever been. They say that aerials are for anyone. Everyone is welcome no matter your shape, size you will be met where you are and challenged to push yourself. Everyone (students & instructors) cheer each other on. This gym is definitely a body positive space for anyone to work on their art. If you are curious about circus and aerials, I encourage you to check out Suspend. It is not easy, but the sense of accomplishment is incomparable.

Yes, there are fabrics, hoops, ropes and poles. Everything you'd see at a Cirque show. And you learn how to do really cool stuff on all these things. While working up a sweat. The instructors are really great, you start with the basics, I felt very safe and you build from there. They are highly encouraging, along with the other students. They also have conditioning classes, yoga, flexibility, juggling - so many things to keep you moving and having fun. I would highly recommend to anyone, regardless of age and fitness level.

Absolutely killer aerial/dance/pole fitness studio. Huge instructor team for constantly-rotating…read moreclasses, some of the owners are even instructors, and there are multiple rooms for concurrent classes. I really love it here. My suggestion if you're brand new? Try to enroll in an enrollment course for something that piques your interest. If you're curious about aerial apparatuses but scared about the idea of being in a studio and learning it, sign up for a dance choreography class for the first time. It'll get you familiar with the studio, the instructors, and the process, and you'll likely find yourself comfortable enough to sign up for your apparatus class the next month! PROS: -Multiple rooms means multiple concurrent classes pretty much from 5PM to 9PM most evenings. There's a dedicated room full of silks/hammock, a room full of lyras, a dance/hardwood floor room, and a room full of poles. Each room is separate so you can really focus on what you're doing. -They have one-time classes (they call them "enhancement") and series classes spread out over a full month (they call them 'enrollment'). This gives you price options and time commitment options. -Such a ridiculously welcoming atmosphere. As a plus-size woman with no aerial background, I was worried, but everybody is extremely welcoming. There are thinner-bodied humans and thicker-bodied humans. The majority of the attendees seem to be femme-presenting, but there are some masculine-presenting people who are super welcome too. -Such a gigantic class list of options to choose from. There's belly dance, yoga, cardio dance classes, aerial apparatus classes (pole, lyra, hammock, silks), choreography classes, and more. Really, there are so many options that things can feel overwhelming sometimes. -Lots of unique workshops too for one-off learning of advanced concepts or digging into the magic of choreography creation. There are also regular showcases for students to show off what they've been learning if you're curious about the studio and want to take a tour and see what type of stuff happens for yourself. -Instructors are so friendly. They're always happy to answer questions, and if I'm having trouble with something, they usually have advice or modifications. CONS: -Almost all of the studio membership options give you a free "learn how to do X" class series each month. This means that a lot of the students have dabbled in various aerials - or are absolutely amazing at them. This means that the one-time, "all levels welcome!" classes regularly include moves that are beyond the brand-new beginner level. I've popped into haute hammock classes where ALL of the apparatus choreography was outside of my abilities - and sassy silks classes where 50% of the choreo was beyond my abilities. This isn't necessarily a reason to avoid the studio, but you might want to know that some of the one-off/enhancement classes (Sassy Silks, Lyra Lux, Sassy Silks, Poleography) may use a few (or more) moves that will be hard for a brand-new beginner to use. If you see everybody else catching onto the moves really quickly, remember that a lot of people have familiarity with the apparatus or might even regularly be doing tricks that are 4x as hard. I know I've used these choreography classes as a way to "try" a new aerial apparatus, but if you do the same, don't let it discourage you if you're unable to do most of the things. It's totally normal for some of the choreo to be beyond a newbie's capabilities. (I wish there was a way for Femme Fatale to really earmark which individual classes each week were beginner-friendly and which weren't.) -Because the membership options offer unlimited one-time/"enhancement" class enrollments for members, enhancement classes fill up really far ahead of time - but there's a gigantic turn-over near the day of the class. So if you're on a waitlist, don't fret! It's likely that you'll make it in day-of. My plan-ahead ass hates the uncertainty, though. If you want the best likelihood to be on the class list (and not the waitlist), sign up exactly two weeks ahead of time when the class registration opens.

I was fortunate enough to try the classes with their 8 classes for $99 deal. The bathrooms were clean, the facility was clean, and the staff was kind. Some people got codes to the door so they could enter for their classes, but I didn't get that luxury. The pricing for membership is decent (might be steep for others depending on your budget), but I wish they offered more medium/low income friendly options. Or at least extended the amount of classes you get access to. The scheduling is online which is great, but the availability was scarce for what I wanted to try. I'm recovering from an injury so the instructors were mindful and offered variations I could try instead that would've cause me pain. Still, I think gentle Pilates Reformer would've worked better for me and I didn't get to try that because it was only offered during the day and never after 5pm.
