Having been…read moreborn in Lake Wylie, NC, Murphy literally grew up on the lake where he was always on or around boats. Murphy's love for going fast initially led him to the sport of motocross at an early age and even into his teenage and early adult years. A long list of broken bones and multiple concussions pushed Murphy to walk away from the sport of motocross and led him back to his first love of boats. This renewed passion for the lake and all things boast led Murphy to bringing his new dream and vision of Sail Away Bay Marine to Life. From it's humble beginnings of servicing clients out of his 2000 Ford Econoline e250 van to most recently opening a brand new 3,000 square foot facility, Murphy has always relied on his 15+ years of experience of servicing boats to go above and beyond for his clients. Murphy's attention to detail and his continual desire for his customers' 100% satisfaction has resulted in Murphy's strong reputation in the surrounding boating communities. When Murphy isn't servicing a boat or helping a client sell a boat, you can bet he is somewhere out on the lake on his boat, wake boarding, or surfing. Murphy currently lives in Belmont, NC with his wife Anna and their two "fur-babies" Moto and Meeko.

And if they are…read moreowned by Denton Marina Group, I would make sure that the local management's first name does't rhyme with Crusty. This should be your very last option and only if you have a beater boat or just don't care. Don't put anything you care about at this marina or it will get destroyed. I wish I had been told that. Why, you ask? If you love parking your boat at a train wreck of a marina, where the docks are all falling apart, wood rot at every turn, rusted infrastructure, where everything is literally falling apart, this is the place for you! If you love deep scratches in your gel coat from extruded nails and rotten wood while getting in and out of your slip, even after installing bumpers and siding to prevent it at your own personal cost, this is the place for you! If you love seeing others install new boat lifts on slips after you have been lied to repeatedly that it was not allowed, this is the place for you! If you love spending weekends buffing scratches and bumper rash out of gel coat for the damage their docks do plus the added bonus of cleaning lake grime off the bottom of your boat, this is the place for you! If you enjoy being tossed by wake while trying to get in and out of a slip due their inability to install a barrier to stop wake like most marinas do on open channels, this is the place for you! If you like being harassed for parking even with proper tags showing on your vehicle, this is the place for you! If you like the inconvenience of not having a way to get your boat out of the water by yourself because there is no ramp available, this is the place for you! The manager of this marina was incredibly nice and helpful, all up until the point I had an issue and I needed it taken care of. After asking repeatedly to have the extruded nails and rotten wood replaced around my slip, letting them know of the damage it caused, they showed no interest in fixing the issue. All I got in return was excuses and justification. After I begged to put a lift in seeing that others had recently put in new lifts after I had been told no the year prior, he outright lied to my face. There was no professionalism or understanding. No customer service at all. Just a defensive, good ole boy that couldn't take accountability for any mistakes or harm done to my property. This last season, I paid for the year, left after 4 months if that tells you anything. STAY AWAY - You have been warned.

Okay well what about the future? Guess they didn't care for my business at any time. Customer service and honesty means a lot and this business is missing it. Editing review to add based off of business response: My rating is accurate as I received a negative experience with my back and forth communications with this business. Do they deserve a 1? No because I did not use them, so I can't attest to their work. But do they deserve a 5? No. Whether I chose to use them or not, my contact with them from start to finish is all part of my involvement with this business. They could have handled the situation differently. All other businesses that I have contacted at this time that have either said they are booked, can't do anything because of the COVID issues, or are just waiting on me to make a decision, have all responded with giving me rough estimates for the job and will give me firm estimates and help me when they can get me on the schedule. This was a very different experience with this business who is now "willing" to help. Hopefully they can use this feedback to learn how to positively respond to potential customers even if they are not in agreement.

We are new to the area and actually in the market to buy a boat. I thought what a perfect way to check out the waterway and give my dad a great day. Unfortunately upon checking in at the marina for my online booking, I was told our boat had no gas (fuel is included with rental fyi), something this marina does not have available for its patrons. I would think there are daily protocols to ensure all boats are ready for the next day of rentals. But alas, we were left without a pontoon. I was told by the lady that someone would be reaching out to correct and make it right, but it's been a week and nothing. I think they also could've brought another boat down from their other marina or gas to at least get us to a marina to fill up properly. (Literally a gas station a mile away) They told me maybe two hours to get some gas, but our day was already scheduled out due to flights and such. I don't appreciate poor service, especially when this could've been avoided entirely. I did receive a full refund, but that doesn't cover my dad's disappointment. And while I prefer to support locally, I think I need to explore other marinas.
