I cannot speak highly enough of Help Save The Furry Ones!
Nicky Hocking runs this no-kill shelter as a completely volunteer-based organisation without government funding. With a few volunteers around various areas and in the shelter itself, I am completely in awe with what they achieve, looking after kitties, making sure they are desexed, and promoting responsible pet ownership.
We have 3 rescue cats (yes, we're officially 'crazy cat ladies'!), and our third one, Rosie, came from here. She had been at HSTFO for 12 months, but she adjusted to her new home (and new sisters) pretty quickly! Of course, what you pay for the cats go directly to the shelter, and is minimal anyway (just covering costs of vet bills and food that you take with you) - Rosie, as an adult cat, was only $130 - much more responsible than buying a pure breed!
So if you're thinking of inviting a cat into your home, PLEASE consider visiting Nicky! She has over 100 cats, so there is sure to be one to suit your home and family. With so many cats wanting furrever homes, it would be ridiculous not to! read more
