I've been a patient for over 20 years. On occasions I have visited other doctors just shopping around, but have always returned to Dr Hembree. He is thorough, patient, capable, and exhibits an outstanding professional presence. His office staff, over the past 20 years, has changed somewhat but in every case they have been friendly, curious, and helpful. I wear scleral lenses, which Dr Hembree initially recommended for my rather complex optical issue, and noted that he is significantly more economical for the specialty lenses at no reduction in quality. I was very surprised to note that two reviews were low. I am at a complete los as to explain this issue but expect that it must be some rare anomaly as I have never encountered such a thing over a rather expended period of time. read more

I have been going to Dr. Hembree for many years now. Even when I went to other clinics or had an associate give me prescription I would have to go back and have Dr. Hembree redo the RX. He is very efficient and tells you every step of the way why he is prescribing this. He does not try to sell you extra things. I'm rating this business a solid four stars because Dr. Hembree is very thorough, caring, has a great bedside manner and, takes the time necessary to help his patients understand their vision care. My wife and I both used Hembree Eye Care, from May 2015 until May 2017. We each purchased Rx progressive eyeglasses and Rx sunglasses, using frames purchased at HEC and frames we had that we wanted to use with our new, to be made lenses ordered through HEC. All in all, we were very pleased with every aspect of doing business at HEC. We did use the warranty coverage on a couple of occasions and when we did, HEC worked to provide us with excellent care, making sure imperfections and damages outside our control were resolved to our satisfaction. If we ever had any "issue" at all it would be cost. I did feel like HEC was a bit expensive, since we ordered multiple pairs of glasses. Meaning, I didn't think there was a sizable enough discount for as much as we were spending. In fairness to HEC, our insurance (eyemed) was pretty much worthless. So much so that we've opted to not have insurance for our vision care needs, opting instead to pay out of pocket. Consequently, HEC becomes completely unaffordable for us, since the mass production stores like America's Best and Lens Crafters offer deeper discounts on exams and multiple pairs purchases. Because we are giving up the personal care provided by Dr. Hembree, we are going for a positive experience as we are currently shopping the mass production stores. Hope this review helps somewhat. If you are considering Scleral contact lenses after problems with other types, I strongly recommend you contact Dr Hembree. After RK I found it impossible to get good vision with soft lenses and can't tolerate corneal hard contacts. I now see 20/20 in both eyes and can wear the Scleral lenses 15+ hours per day with no discomfort. Dr Hembree is also WAY lower in his fitting costs than other providers. I find that my yearly costs for Scleral lenses, as prescribed by Dr. Hembree, are about the same as my previous yearly cost for soft lenses. Dr Hembree takes more time discussing my exam than any other practitioner I have visited and an appointment feels more like visiting a friend than a doctor visit. The office staff are great. In reading the two negative reviews on Yelp, I can't help but wonder if they have reviewed the wrong practice or if they are shills making bogus reviews. I rather suspect the latter, as their complaints are simply not how things are done in Dr Hembree's office. Someone commented that lab costs for lenses and frames are higher than Costco and Walmart. I don't know about Costco, the costs I incurred with glasses wee about the same as at Walmart, and the professionalism and experience with Dr Hembree were a much higher calibre. In any case, is Costco really the place you want to trust with your eye sight? I have been a patient of Dr Hembree since 2001 and are totally satisfied. read more

I give my experience one star because Dr. Hembree was actually very detailed and knowledgeable. His staff however was very rude. I was scheduled for a contact appointment and was over charged for my visit. I brought it up to their attention and they denied it and refused to change it. I called my insurance, who contacted the doctors staff. I later received a call from their front desk, her exact words were "your insurance told us to refund you X amount." Everything about my experience was delightful. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by a warm welcome and friendly staff. The wait was not long at all I had my preliminary tests within five minutes of checking in. I appreciate that they do not waste time time around here. When the doctor came in he was very friendly and personable. Went through the series of test and I was on my way. In and out within an hour. Dr. Hembree is great. He is the go to guy when it comes to straightening hopeless glasses and fitting frames comfortably. I sent my boyfriend here to get an eye exam and purchased frames online with the prescription since he would lose/break them anyway... I figured go for the cheapest option. Dr. Hembree checked the lenses and of course the online company got the prescription wrong, but he was glad to help with no additional charge. The only problem I've had with them is that I'm here now and the receptionist and helper refuse to give me my pupilary distance because I went to a different Dr. this year. Popular distance doesn't change. I want to order cheap glasses online! So I'm waiting in the office to talk to Dr. Hembree personally to see if he will release this "TOP SECRET" information. I'm pretty sure he'll let me know just to get rid of me but as friendly as he is I was pretty dismayed by the receptionist and assistant. Hence only 4 stars not 5 read more

He treats each patient with care and each time we have went we were more than happy. I remember a time my mom was running late to pick up my contacts, he ran into her when he was leaving and went back to the store to get them for her. Dr. Hembree is one of the best eye specialists in the Dallas area. My children and I, have been patients since 1998, when his office was in T.E. mall next to Lens Crafters. In all the years of seeing Dr. Hembree, I can only say great things about this man. Dr. Hembree is a fabulous doctor. He listens to your wants, needs, and concerns. He is very knowledgeable- in all aspects of his craft. He actually takes time with each of his patients. That is a rare find nowadays. Most doctors barely take the time to ask your name. I have been going to Dr. Hembre for the past six years. He is the most thorough, meticulous and professional optometrist I have ever gone to (and I have had glasses for 55 years)! He told me three years ago about my macular degeneration and how to slow it up and it's working! He is not in a big hurry. The staff and doctor were incredibly helpful and patient with me. They answered all my questions and were thorough in their responses. All the employees were very kind but the one that stood out to me was Nhi, she not only answered all my questions but got back to me quickly if I called in for a question. The doctor is nice and informative but the staff gives you the run around. My son had an appointment on the 23rd of June. I asked to schedule an appointment for myself on a day his glasses would be ready. They said July the 3rd and I make my appointment for the 7th. His glasses weren't ready and I didn't receive a phone call. When I went to my appt. and found out his glasses weren't ready I was told another week. I have called a couple times and I keep getting told another week. They haven't ever reached out to me to let me know what is going on. I feel as though someone in the office is dripping the ball and the staff just keeps blaming the lab but when they tell me the turn around is 3 to 5 business days and it is now almost a month later I feel like they are not being honest with me. I understand things happen and sometimes there are delays but communicate with your customers. Tell them the truth and stop giving them the run around. I will now find a different eye care office for my family's needs. read more
