Excellent High School. I have had an almost perfect ( with the exception of the Cedar Ridge…read moreVolleyball Program) experience with 3 kids going to Cedar Ridge, all 3 in AP classes and one graduating with honors. They have received a high quality education. The programs I have found to be the most structured are in the fine arts dept, including theater, music, visual arts and especially band. The only stain that prevents me from giving it a full 5 star rating is the Cedar Ridge High School Varsity Volleyball Coaching Program, which I would give zero stars.

My children's experience at Cedar Ridge High School has made me feel that there are serious issues…read morewith both the maturity of some teachers and the way student behavior is handled. At times, teachers act less like adults in positions of authority and more like students themselves, which makes it difficult for my kids to feel respected or taken seriously as students. Another major concern I have is the way racism and discrimination are addressed. From what I have personally witnessed and experienced, it often feels like situations involving discrimination of students of color are taken more seriously or receive consequences, while similar behavior involving white students can be overlooked or dismissed because "you can't be racist to white people" (said to me by a Coach). This creates a feeling of unfairness and makes students question whether everyone is actually being held to the same standard. Cedar Ridge describes itself as a diverse school that values compassion, tolerance, empathy, and respectful behavior, so I believe the school should consistently live up to those values for every student, regardless of their race.

Our youngest grandson was playing a football game Saturday afternoon on the field at Stony Point…read moreHigh School. He is on a privately managed & funded team as his public school doesn't offer football. The Field at Stony Point is excellent. It's Astroturf is very well-maintained. There are plenty of stands for the crowd to utilize so their fans have adequate seating. There were umbrellas attached to the metal bleachers-thankfully it's out of the hundreds but still mid to high nineties so many families brought them to protect them from the sun. They only had one entrance open, so it was quite a walk from the parking area. Since I mentioned the parking area, I might as well state that the reason this location gets four stars instead of five is the parking lot (during times when there's game overlap) is way too small and there is no other option. The parking lot that is used for the stadium is next to the little school that's on the corner the Large Parking area that students probably use is not readily available on the weekends. Sadly, because I am directionally challenged, I would not have been able to find my way walking all the way around the buildings that I would need to walk by -to get to the one entrance of the stadium that was open. Now for more positives.....the restrooms were clean and well stocked. There was a concession stand that was open and offered beverages, as well as nachos, candy, and other goodies.. I learned how to purchase my ticket to get in with an app and they offered many choices, (PayPal, Venmo, etc. ) but no cash and their credit card machine was broken. The security people were evident, which I thought was really nice and that I have not seen at games. One of the team family members was manning the admission area and was being a patient and explained how I could purchase my ticket and that if I wanted any concessions-they needed to be purchased in advance at an app also. You were allowed to bring in water, but no other food or beverages . (this proves you can teach an old dog new tricks.!!!) Overall, this was a positive experience, and I hope that the team plays there in the future !!!

In the short amount of time he…read morehas been here, a former staff member harassed him--following him to the restroom, making comments about his clothing, asking other students personal questions about him, and constantly picking on him. We reported these concerns and had a meeting about it, but all we were told was that she was no longer at the school. While things slightly improved afterward, nothing was done to address the harm that had already occurred. To make matters worse, another staff member not only went around asking another student for my son's phone number, but she actually called him after school to ask about drama happening at the school--nothing school-related, and nothing appropriate for an adult to discuss with a student. This behavior was completely unprofessional and unacceptable, yet the school chose to ignore it. Despite ignoring repeated misconduct by their own employees, the school immediately moved to expel my son the moment he was involved in one fight--while defending himself. Given everything he has endured, this feels like retaliation. The difference in accountability between a child and adult staff members is alarming. There are also major communication issues at this school. Many teachers struggle with a language barrier that leaves students confused about instructions and assignments, and little effort is made to fix it. This is especially harmful for students with 504 plans, who rely on clarity and support--not additional obstacles. Overall, sending our child to this school has been one of the worst decisions we could have made. Even in such a short time, it has become clear that this school is not here to support or protect its students. This experience has been unfair, discouraging, and completely unacceptable. Students and families deserve far better.

Ms. Amaiya has been outstanding with our daughter while she was in Toddler B. Our daughter loves her so much so that now that she has moved on from her class, she will still sometimes refuse to enter the new class unless Ms. Amaiya is there. She has been so great that she'll often at times help take her in the morning until her current teacher is available to get her. We are extremely grateful for her! Currently, our daughter is in Ms. Stephanie's class and she loves and trusts her as well. Ms. Stephanie has been incredible and is always available to give us updates on our daughter's potty training. She encourages her all the time to do things on her own and she's been so crucial for us in helping us potty train our daughter. The front desk of TLE has been amazing as well! Ms. Jessica and her team have done an amazing job and really have given a lot of consistency to the facility that we felt was lacking for a while. Seeing Ms. Jessica's and Ms. Phoenix's faces in the morning always lights up our daughter's face. We are moving away soon and won't be able to send our daughter here. We will truly miss the staff and all they have done for our daughter. They have made such a big impact on our daughter's and our lives and we hope we've made a lasting impression as well.
