Please don't go to this Henna artist. It was one of the worst experiences of my life!!!!! Not only does she lack kind social skills (which I didn't care that much about, as long as she did her job right), she cause me several trips to URGENT CARE. After i got my henna done, I got a bad reaction to it. She said it never happened before. I have been doing henna since I was a little girl. This NEVER happened. I know this sounds gross (and it was), my henna turned into blisters!!!! ( I will post the pics) it was so painful and wasnt able to sleep. I had to tale steroids to calm it down. And after three weeks when the blisters calmed a little, I kept SCARS for months.... It was HORRIBLE Now here is the worst part.... I know.. More is coming... I contacted her to ask fo rmy money back. I paid a total of 40dlrs. It wasnt about the 40, but more about the fact that she took money from me after this horrible experience. She responded and said that she was only giving me back 20!!!! That she needed to be paid for her time... R u kidding me??? I told her to keep the money because karma will get her for sure. This woman is horrible. If you present money, she will be nice and friendly. Its fake. Don't trust her. I have never written a negative review online in my life but I though this was necessary. After seeing her website last year, I called her up and told her that I had to book her for my July 2nd wedding before anyone else snatches her. She came over on last Thursday and sat with me for 5 and a half hours applying the most beautiful mehndi design freehand. It looked so fabulous when done and it still looks fabulous now. Initially, when we took the dried mehndi off, the red wasn't dark enough. So I called her and she immediately picked up the phone and told me what to do to get it to look dark. I hired Tejal at the recommendation of a friend and the only reason I'm giving her 2 stars is because she definitely is skilled and capable. However, in a business like this, I believe that skills are just as important as the service itself and she unfortunately does not have the social skills. She made my guests feel uncomfortable by making some inappropriate comments about the size of their hands and their children's looks. Unfortunately your options are limited for henna artists in San Diego but if you can find another one, I would recommend doing that just to avoid awkward situations at your henna party. Tejal has been doing my work..hands, feet and my belly when I was 20 weeks pregnant, for going on over two years. To anyone who has any question about her work or her personality.. Both stellar. She does my hands at least every six months. She's easy to get in touch with and replays quick. I've been to her home AND she's been to my home., many times. She started coming to my house after my daughter was born bc it was hard to get out with a newborn. I appreciated that she did that. She's, from day one, been kind and very warm. We chat about everything while she's doing her magic. I've never had a "reaction" to her work as she'll tell you from the start she does not use black henna but rather the natural mix with lemon juice and essential oils. So if you're looking for that she's not your girl. (Black henna is pretty but can cause reactions due to the ingredients.. See pic posted on here... A black henna reaction kinda looks like that.) Tejal did my bridal mendhi in the afternoon, followed by mendhi for my guests in the evening. During my consultation, she took the time to review multiple patterns and gave me ideas of work she had done as well as the expanse of her possibility of work. She also noted my special requests (hidden mickeys) within the mendhi. A few days before she came to apply my mendhi, she sent me specific instructions on how to prepare (nails, hair removal, pillows), which helped me get comfortable in preparation for hours of mendhi application. Her work itself was absolutely gorgeous. She was quick at application and made sure to follow the designs as decided. Her details were complex, but she applied them so well that the designs looked amazing. She also had a lot of fun adding hidden mickeys to my mendhi, which made for a great game for my guests throughout the wedding. The color after settling was super dark and lasted for multiple weeks, which was a great memory of the wedding festivities. Thanks Tejal for your intricate designs and beautiful work! After reading through all the great reviews, I reached out to Tejal through her website to have henna done for an upcoming family wedding. She responded quickly and I made an appointment to visit her home in Rancho Penasquitos. She later emailed me to change the time saying that an earlier appointment might run late, which was totally fine. When I arrived at Tejal's home, I didn't find her to be friendly or welcoming. She showed me a book of henna designs to choose from, but I wasn't able to find anything that I liked. I referenced a few photos on her website but she was unwilling to replicate those designs and said that she couldn't remember how those were done. I indicated that I wanted the henna up to the mid-forearm region. She quickly applied the henna down to my palm and started cleaning up. Uh ok. After all the back and forth about the design, she ended up deviating way too much from what I chose. In addition she applied the henna in such thick lines that it did not come out well. It was clear that she was in a rush and had somewhere else to be (her friend was even waiting for her outside as I left), which I find odd given that she changed the appt time to meet her schedule. Furthermore, she gave me no after care instructions. Unfortunately Henna San Diego is pretty much the only game in town. Maybe they only pull out all the stops for bridal henna or large groups. In the future, and for my own bridal henna, I would hire a henna artist from LA. read more

SUPER AWKWARD EXPERIENCE with this woman. I called because I was interested and having henna tattooed eyebrows. Initially I got really excited because I reviewed the website and was super pumped because I found out this place is only 6 miles from my house. I emailed the woman who does the Henna and decided to call her shortly after I sent the email. I don't know if this woman is super new in business but when I called she was extremely short with me. When I started to talk and tell her about what I was interested in getting done, she cut me off and she told me to check my email. That was it. My boyfriend was sitting right next me and I was so shocked I said okay and I hung up the phone. I have never called a business and had them be so rude before. 3 stars because I have mixed feelings for Tejal. At first I was very excited to find a Henna Artist in San Diego & her website pictures were amazing. Initially she was very responsive via emails but after the deposit, she wasn't quick in responding and because of this, my initial consultation became a last minute thing. I had no time to go out of house for appointments. I did appreciated that she was willing to bring the design books on the day I had my bridal henna done. I was in a rush to pick the design and get started with the Henna. Tejal doesn't have the initial friendly and upbeat personality which didn't help either. At first I did considered her to be a bit reserved as she hardly get on with the conversation. Even my mother-in-law came in and tried to start a conversation but she didn't respond the first time. It felt she was just there to do the business & leave. She did warm up later during the night which was nice. It was good to know her as a person. She did an excellent design on my hand. I wish I had more time to select the design for my feet. She makes her own henna & its good stuff. My henna continued to get darker even after 2 days of application. She wasn't able to secure a secondary henna artist for me for the following day. I requested this 2 months before. Her rate is slightly higher than the regular artist. But anyway, I still wanted to call her for the party I had the following day but my mother-in-law wasn't impressed with her personality and the vote was to go without it. Tejal is a nice person once you get to know her but I wish she had a more welcoming & friendly personality which is necessary for a intimate & small family parties. I am not sure if I will use her for future family events at my place. I really like to get to know the people who come to my house. I also like to work with individuals who are good at what they do but it is very important for me to work with someone who are easy to talk to and feel like you know them even if you just met. I was given the task to book a henna artist last minute for my company event. I researched and discovered all the rave reviews about Tejal. She was able to make our last minute request and did henna for several hours accommodating the huge guest list we had. Everyone was in awe of her work and it was the highlight for many of the evening. Guests ranging from late teens up to a 90 year old woman LOVED the henna that Tejal had done.
