Was there after my roommate fell and was caused to ER for observation. Waited in waiting room over two hours before anyone updated me. After I got back and to her room, I noticed that it was over two hours before anyone even came into her room to check on her. When she was discharged, I told the nurse that she used a walker at home and asked that they vri f her outside in a wheelchair since she was having dizzy spells. She got tired of waiting so she decided to just walk out of the hospital unassisted. This is the first occurrence of a patient being discharged and not wheeled out in a wheelchair. I was not impressed with their quality of care at all. I do not suggest HDH, Forest campus at all. read more

My 92 year old mother was a patient at HDH/Forest for 10 days for CHF and AFib. Firstly, she was admitted to an Oncology/Med Surg Unit for heart issues and did not receive a telemetry box for at least 18 hours. The nursing / hospitalist care was horrific. She received too much IV Lasix by day-3 and was weak, shaky, and severely dehydrated. Nurses were instructed by the cardiologist to give all her meds before her Cardioversion and she didn't receive any (including her blood thinner). Also, when one of her blood thinner pills fell to the floor, the male nurse told her she could skip it for the day. She was left alone in her room at the end of the hall with the door closed tightly when she became disoriented, agitated, and confused. One morning, her 9am pills were still sitting on her table at 12:30pm bc the nurse didn't make sure she took them (when she was confused). When the "nurse" was confronted about her untaken meds and the door being closed, she put her hand in my face and walked away stating she was "going to give me a minute". She had to use the call button repeatedly to ask for help reaching her food tray, only to be ignored, and finally received help when the hospitalist came in her room. She did not receive any hygiene or oral care unless I asked for clean sheets, washcloths, and towels, and then I did the care for her - not the employees. Apparently, hygiene and oral care is no longer a routine part of nursing care and patients can go days without it, unless they have an advocate to facilitate it. Every day she was a patient at HDH she became weaker and had more issues. Finally, there was a huge cockroach in her bathroom that I smashed with my shoe. The nurse manager argued that it was a water bug...it was NOT. This is actually the second time I've seen a cockroach in this hospital. I have vowed to never return to this God-awful facility and have asked my family (and you) to go somewhere else if they want to live. For a previous ER Visit for my 92 year old mother with CHF and shortness of breath (on 12/16/25), the ER physician told us that "her case really isn't an emergency because the ER is for traumas, gun shot wounds, and heart attacks", but he proceeded to give her IV Lasix and admit her for CHF. Ugh...really? His personality was not suited for emergency medicine. read more

So just went there bc of prednisone induced insomnia. Haven't slept for days. They barely talked to me and discharged me to drive home after I told them I hadn't slept in days and I was experiencing heart palpitations and microsleeps. They seemed hyperfixated on clarifying they couldn't prescribe me strong sleeping medication. I never even requested it. All in all, the doctor seemed rather uninterested and they barely even talked to me or did any lab work at all. I'm disappointed by the lack of compassion, customer care or concern for someone struggling with severe sleep deprivation due to medicine. Told them I was worried about driving home and no one cared. read more

This is absolutely the worst hospital I've ever been to.My wife was transported from Fredricksburg to this hospital.It took 45 minutes waiting before I could be with her.The room was so cold I had to use 3 blankets.Since they didn't have a room available..They kept us in a er room.I ended up sleeping on the floor.Four hours and not one nurse came in that room.I'm currently typing this message in my car at 4:15 am.Oh and not one vending machine worked.This hospital is terrible!!! read more

Picking a hospital to deliver your baby at always comes with concerns about if you picked the right one, what happens if something goes wrong, etc. I toured a few hospitals and ultimately decided on Henrico doctor's because it just felt right during the tour. Given everything that's happened recently, I was a little nervous, but we are so glad that we chose to deliver here. I was unexpectedly hospitalized with pre eclampsia at 36 weeks. The doctors and staff kept me overnight for monitoring and decided I needed to have my baby. They made sure they educated us on all of our options and step by step what the plan was. My delivery was so much less stressful than when I had my son, even though it wasn't exactly an easy birth. All of the nurse staff and NICU nurses/doctor were in the room ready in case they were needed, which they were. A nurse stood by my bed holding my hand calmly explaining what was going on with baby so I wouldn't panic. The neonatologist has my partner call me on the phone to discuss what exactly was going on instead of trying to have a sleep deprived person try and relay everything. They also got us set up with their app to monitor our baby 24/7 in the NICU. The nurses did everything they could to get vitals on me overnight but not wake me. They regularly checked in to make sure I didn't need anything. If the camera for baby was moved or turned off because of diagnostics, the nurses called the NICU to have it put back on. Every place has a few bad eggs but our experience here overall has been so amazing in so many ways. Diane in the NICU has been the most comforting nurse to work with while our baby girl is staying there. Our first night hospitalized, Meagan made sure to check on us regularly, keep us informed on everything and answer any questions, and just good off with us some to help us relax. If you're on the fence about this hospital for delivery, you can't go wrong. We are forever grateful for everything and everyone here during this experience. Update: My daughter was in the NICU for almost 3 weeks. They had just opened back up so we were slightly nervous. They have an app for you to watch your baby when you can't be there. The first neonatologist we met was great at explaining what was going on and giving a clear treatment plan with the goals she needed to meet. After a few days we had a different neonatologist who also was great and even said we could be a little more forgiving with her goals so we thought maybe we'd get her out sooner. We had to call up there a few times to ask them to turn on the camera as it had been off for hours. After repeatedly having issues and being upset after a meeting with the occupational therapist we were assigned, I spoke to the director of the NICU. She was so understanding and met with me every day or two for a week to check in. We came in one day and had a third neonatologist. Their plan was different than the other two and my fiance and I just got very frustrated. The doctor talked to us to see what the frustration was and what they could do to help. Throughout her stay there were a few miscommunications, however overall we were very happy with their care for her. Leanne was her nurse for the last few days and she was fantastic! She left us little notes on her swaddle to let us know how she had done at her most recent feeding/check in. When she walked us out to the car she gave us a hug and told us to keep them updated. Except for one nurse that answered the phone when we called once, everyone we met in here was very caring. I changed my review to 4 stars only because it was very frustrating having the camera off a lot or it wasn't working. read more

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD after this negative review the nurse in question proceeded to directly effect me and my husbands personal life and cause turmoil with my existing relationships, Telling people exactly when/what I am saying whenever she is confronted by a supervisor, some of which are lies she is now spreading about me over a year later, regardless that should not be allowed. UNPROFESSIONAL to the highest extent. Please proceed with caution. I had a clear HIPPA violation with a L&D nurse speaking about my birth experience, medical procedures, what I was talking about and saying while being rushed to an OR (it was traumatic btw) to people she knew outside of the hospital I do not know this nurse but she knew friends of my Husbands apparently, obviously I did not appreciate this, you should feel safe and protected in a hospital much less while GIVING BIRTH. When I called to talk to the lead L&D nurse explaining what happened she made very interesting comments asking what I "wanted out of this" and saying things like she "didn't know if it was a clear HIPPA violation" essentially trying to gaslight me when all I wanted was for her to be spoken to and an apology. We're going to be here for a few days after baby was born. The nursing staff are amazing and have been so helpful and great at keeping us informed. Knowing our birth plan, the hospital contacted the OB and called her in to perform the C-section. I ended up passing out and the nurses swooped in and took care of me while my wife was still in the OR. The rooms are nice and cozy, though the temperatures range A LOT. Will definitely come here for our next baby as well! read more

I put off going to the ER, NO ONE likes discussing bowel issues. I have MS and my issues are related to pelvic floor dysfunction. I was taken to a room in the back immediately. Zero wait time! All the nurses were wonderful! I had researched which ER to go to! I chose Henrico Doctors because of good reviews and awards received, etc., but I left in tears. I had a multitude of issues. I was in a MS flare up. I was having an allergic reaction a med and had been SEVERELY itching on my arms, thighs and palms, it was the 4th day today. Very little sleep, clawing myself, and bowel issues for weeks - to the point of sharp pains in my torso with every movement. I was fearful of what could be wrong. I figured an X-rays or CT scan would at least show if it were serious or not. I stressed it was related to my MS and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. My doctor, Richard Siira, was very kind. He sat down and listened to me. He then said that I have a lot going on... what was intimate to focus on? To myself, I thought, well I've told you everything - you're the doctor, what do YOU think I should focus on? I told him the stomach pains were scaring me and I was extremely uncomfortable. I thought he'd take some pics and tell me what he saw. Instead he said he'd refer me to a neurologist if I wanted, and he'd order an enema. No X-ray. No CT scan. No physical exam other than looking in my mouth and listening to my chest and back. I thought...I've done the enema thing, I'll pass on the humiliation of one here, but thanks for the referral! Nice ER bill I'll be waiting for... for a BP and temperature check! I'll go home and pray there's nothing that WOULD HAVE shown on film. Incredibly disappointed! read more

My grandmother, unfortunately, was admitted here days after being discharged from a different hospital. The 1st hospital couldn't figure out what was wrong with her & this one couldn't either. When that happens, they make up things & throw people on medications knowing they won't work. Then they hurry up and discharge you to make room for the next patient. It's truly a crazy business & I don't understand why people come into it without the compassion, empathy, and knowledge necessary to truly help individuals. It's sad. She was in this hospital for 2 months & in that time, they did nothing for her. She even fell several times and they tried to discharge her with broken ribs that occurred on their watch. I would never advise anyone to bring someone elderly here. I feel that they have no respect for them. You will truly be fighting and advocating for them from day 1 until they are discharged because they will not care about them 1 bit. They get 2 stars instead of 1 because of a couple nice nurses and sitters that I met there who cared for her within that 2 month period. The rest of them (including the social workers) get ZERO STARS!!! read more

I'm just lucky my visit to this dump of a hospital was for something serious enough to be transported to the ER in an ambulance but not life threatening. After two hours on a gurney at the ER check-in site and another hour on a gurney in a hallway without seeing a doctor or a nurse, I had to hail a passing employee and ask for someone (anyone) to move me an an ER room and clean me up before infection set in. Later, I waited 20 minutes for a response to my request for help getting to a restroom before unhitching my monitoring gadgets and taking myself. (No one apparently ever noticed that I wasn't registering any signs of life.) I spent a total of five hours at that place and got about 20 minutes actual care before asking for a temporary fix so I could leave. I'll wait for an appointment with my surgeon. He and his office staff aren't too busy giggling in the hallways to look after patients. read more

If I could rate this hospital lower, I would. When you go to the hospital, there is an expectation of care and professionalism of which this establishment entirely lacks. My friend was neglected for FOUR HOURS while actively bleeding post-surgery, and was misgendered, disrespected, and offered no care nor reassurance to his health, as the doctors couldnt understand a surgery as basic as a double mastectomy. We've been to this facility in the past. The experience is always hit or miss. We were there again recently when one of our children needed stitches late at night after urgent care facilities were closed. Upon check in, as we usually do, we asked about whether any discounts were offered for just paying cash and not using insurance. The person registering us became very argumentative about the topic, accusing of committing insurance fraud and stating that we would be trying to access their "charity care" by lying about not having insurance. Well, that's not what we asked at all. Many, many providers we've been to of all types, including ERs, have offered us a discount if we pay in cash immediately rather than waiting for insurance. Not this place. My insurer confirmed for me that there is no requirement by them to use insurance if we don't want to. I spoke with the manager in the registration area who confirmed it's just THEIR policy that if we have insurance, we must use it. Then why accuse us of committing fraud and being liars? Now, for 7 stitches they bill insurance over $4,000. After the insurance adjustment and our deductible, we owe over $1,300 on the bill. Spent about 10 to 15 minutes on the phone today trying to reach a human in the billing dept, and I gave up for now. Their virtual computer assistant basically insists that you basically pay your bill or ask general questions it can answer. When I ask for human or an agent, or hit zero, it says it will be glad to connect me to a human if I only provide more info. I provide more info, that it seemed to keep recording wrong and needed to be re-entered. I never could get a human on the phone. The medical staff are fine. The registration and billing has left much room for needed improvement. read more

i was brought to the ER by ambulance after breaking my ankle in three places. i was seen immediately by (wonderful) Nora, an orthopedic nursing specialist. I am not sure of her exact title as I was put on pain meds while she worked with others to try to move the bones back into place while I was sedated. I spent a week on the trauma unit, and have nothing but good things to say about the Henrico Doctors Hospital trauma floor. Every single person who took care of me there was kind, gentle, and skilled. The trauma floor is busy with all kinds of grisly cases, from gunshot wounds to kidney transplants to just people like me with some broken bones. i was amazed by the gentle, conscientious care I received, day and night. i am very grateful. read more

I was here two days in a row a couple weeks ago, both as an outpatient. They were my first experiences with HDH, but won't be my last. Next time I need a hospital in the Richmond region, I know which one I'll turn to. My first visit was a scheduled specialized scan. My insurance company had approved for it to be done here, so I had little say over the location. HDH made it easy to schedule, and they called me a couple times in advance of the scan to complete the pre-scan paperwork and billing information. I also spoke to the nurse navigator, who was reassuring about the process. Day of, I went through the Covid screening and they directed me to outpatient registration. That part took the longest, as they took half an hour to alert radiology that I was present. Not sure why. Fortunately I had arrived half an hour early anyway, so the test started on time. The test itself was fine, and the folks who administered it were nice. The next day, I had to visit the ER after experiencing some pretty scary symptoms, and I was brought right back. And I mean literally right back. That's never happened before. I went through triage, billing came into the room but was seamless, and then PA Michael Matthews came in to see me maybe ten minutes later -- if that. He was so compassionate and caring. He actually listened to the full backstory of all the pain I've been dealing with this year, and all the tests I've been going through. He ran full bloodwork and ruled out the major scary stuff. His nurse also provided a list of referrals for specialists to follow up with as well. All in all, I was in and out of the ER in two hours, which was surprising, based on past life experiences elsewhere. Kudos to them for maintaining such a high level of patient care in these unprecedented times. read more

Dr. Barrie and Stephanie treated my friend in the ER superbly! I was impressed with Dr. Barrie's bedside manner and his professional and thorough examination and diagnosis. He was forthcoming, honest and attentive. This ER's waiting room and the examination rooms were clean. My friend was seen quickly and made very comfortable. The check in and discharge process was a breeze. IMO, HDH on Forest has one of the most caring, friendly, best staffs (not the other staph) in the business! I was in the hospital last year for a few days and the stay was good, but their billing department is awful. I was billed over $1200 for a service that I have never received. I have called and spoken to them multiple times and I have sent them letters without any resolution. Since I have refused to pay for a service that I didn`t receive they have now sent me to a collection company. I would suggest that you stay away from this hospital or make sure that you ask for a detailed bill and review it closely because their mark up on everything is extremely overpriced. read more

The Henrico Doctor's Hospital - Forest location has got to be the worst campus to find your way around of any hospital in the USA. There are ZERO site maps at entrances that even give you a hint about where you are, let alone where you need to go. Please put a site map at each and every entrance. There are signs...lots of signs, but no maps. It took my wife and I 30 minutes to find where she needed to register. That's crazy and completely unacceptable. Usually, I don't like to leave bad reviews, but this hospital's billing practices deserves one. Please save yourself thousands of dollars and use other hospitals in town. I am in healthcare industry and very familiar with billing for services and drugs, but this is something never seen before. We are dealing with two separate bills for newborn delivery. One for mother and one for baby. They are charging for baby nursery $27,526 for two days nursey. To clarify, we had healthy newborn, was never in ICU or anything. We sent newborn to nursey for few hours at night for two nights. Also, they charged $1073 for lactated ring. Lactated ring does not cost more than $10 to purchase as per CMS. Not mentioning many other drugs have been charged more than 1000% than their AWP(average wholesaler price) or CMS's ASP(Average sale price). It's astounding how they can get away with such unfair upcoding and overcharging. Their billing department is a joke. All they can do is to send for auditing. Based on their "revenue integrity department" $27,000 charge is valid charge to use nursery for two nights for few hours east night. Kudos to staff, nurses, doctors and everyone involved in direct care of delivery. They all were awesome. I wish we had gone to St mary or other hospitals, would have saved a fortune. read more

I really wanted to like this hospital. I have just moved to Henrico and I know there are many hospitals to choose from in Richmond. I found little and big things bothered me: equipment was broken, like the lamp to help the nurses see during a procedure. A phone and file shelf hung half off the wall. And, no one thought to give my sister a urine test coming from a nursing home complaining of vomiting, nausea and confusion. We were there for 6 hours before taking a urine test and finding out she needed antibiotics. It is so common in nursing homes that it was after they were ready to discharge her, I said... "Really? She's acting so confused. She just had a huge diarrhea in the bed here... " Then it was decided to give her a urine test. Bingo. I really think this was the doctor's responsibilities, not the nurses but my sister was not treated like she was important. I asked to see the doctor and you would think I was asking to walk on the moon. There's a sign to call Michelle, the head of nursing, to tell her how you think Doctor's Hospital did. Maybe they are stellar with babies, but a 74 year old woman with stage 4 breast cancer complaining of nausea and diarrhea, they weren't great at all. Sorry! read more

The facility is immaculately clean and the staff is extremely friendly, accommodating, professional and knowledgeable!! Registration took about 10 minutes due to the new electronic self-registration devices. They deserve every award they've received!!! Cindy in pre admission testing was so sweet! She made sure I was taken care of and understood everything in preparation for my surgery. She also drew my blood on the first stick and it didn't hurt!!! Our little guy had to stay here in the neonatal section for a period of time and the folks there were very communicative, professional and warm. Had another great experience here, but this time it was for an ER visit. Read my previous review for a play by play of my labor and delivery experience! Anyway, this was my first time ever going to an ER in adulthood. I was having excruciating pain and my husband brought me here on a Monday afternoon. There was hardly a wait and everything went smoothly. The triage nurse who took my vitals and asked questions was very nice and sent me to a "room" immediately. Now, "room" is in quotations because each space was separated by curtains. No room had actual walls. I didn't love that. If I remember correctly, during my experience taking my grandma in the ER at St. Mary's, I noticed that they did have rooms with walls. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Ok, coming back on track. Once I was in the exam area, I didn't have to wait long at all for a doctor to see me. He asked a lot of questions and checked out my issue. His diagnosis was spot on. He gave me detailed information about what was going on and sent me to follow up with my primary care, which I did the very next day. I just got the bill from this visit and although it wasn't cheap, it also wasn't bad at all. It could have been so much worse. I would pay 5x what I owe them to have someone figure out what was going on with me and not be in that type of pain anymore. Bravo, Henrico Doctors! If I could give this horrible excuse of a hospital no stars I would. My mother came in for a knee operation. A transfer from TriCities. We have been at Henrico for eight days with my mother getting worse every single day. The communication between staff is abysmal and the hospitalist is atrocious. They transferred my mother to their sister hospital, only to be transferred again within 24 hours back, because that sister hospital did not have the resources or a cardiac unit. We were told the doctor failed to read my mother's chart properly. It is absolutely inexcusable. We have been prevented multiple times by the executives and the hospitalist from moving to a hospital with all the facilities needed. This is a nightmare of a hospital. Never has so many things gone so wrong, one after another, with zero accountability. I sincerely hope that none of the doctors, hospitalists, or executives ever have to experience the kind of inept treatment when they get sick. No one deserves this- not even them. read more

I went to the ER at 10:23 am on 7/9/24 with upper abdomen pain related to what I thought was existing gut issues. Was never taken back to a room but had blood work and CT ordered by a doctor that came out to the waiting room and interviewed me there (HIPPA violation maybe?) When my test came back negative, she put an order in to release me and intended on never speaking with me about the CT results until I requested to see her. At which time, she said she would send in a prescription to hold me over until I could do a follow up with my doctor for another test. She never sent prescription and I called the next day and they said she had no order in for one, so I was out of luck. I left there at 4:05 pm. with no answers, no offer to do the test she recommended and still in 7 out of 10 pain. read more

I don't even know how to start this review...there is so much about this hospital that is wrong. The first night my mom was here she spent it, with a roommate, in the Short Stay Unit, because there were no beds. Her nurse that night had such bad energy, and couldn't be bothered tending to patient's needs. The nurses waste their time gossiping and complaining about the administration and patients at the nurses station and not tending to patients. When you walk up to the nurses station to ask a question, they are rude and impatient. My mom's second day in the "Short Stay Unit" My mom rang the nurse for water, she was told the nurse would be there in a minute. I started the stopwatch on my phone, after 43 minutes, I went to the nurses station, and reminded them that my mom requested water, I received an eye-Roll, and was told that they are very busy and would get to her as soon as they could, I showed her the timer (see picture) and said "my mom asked for water 43 minutes ago, she was put in here because she's dehydrated." I received a lame excuse, no apology, just an excuse. Today, I received a phone call from a rep about a device they want to put in my mom. She told me what it detects and while I was trying to explain that that isn't my mom's problem, she started talking over me! Not even listening to me! She did this multiple and it wasn't until I asked her why she was talking over me, did she stop. I told her that I would like to speak to her doctor first. She just kept telling me her sales pitch. Nurses and doctors need to remember; you may have many patients that you care for, but I only have one mom. read more

Okay I have to say when I originally first visited henrico doctors hospital my girlfriend was 38 weeks pregnant. I was so happy to go to the hospital where I was born and I got great reviews from my mom and my gfs side of the family. It appears in 2022 standards have dropped when we went there the first time visiting (at 38 weeks) no one was at the front desk. there was a nurse talking on her phone in the patient waiting area who didn't even offer to help us find anybody. So I had to run around the hospital until I found someone. This isn't the reason why I'm writing the review however. We had an induction scheduled on Monday September 12th we called at 8:30 in the morning when the scheduling person was there and they got us schedule at 4:30. When we called again because my gf was in so much pain they told us it was at 5 and then added to call us before hand to make sure we have an extra bed because inductions aren't a priority. So we called again before 5 they told us they were saving beds for emergency when we asked if we could wait in the lobby they told us not to come because we weren't a priority. I just want to add my gf was a week and two days over due. So you can imagine the amount of pain she was in. So we said screw it called VCU med got us in the within an hour and started the induction. What was the scary part that the doctors at VCU med told us was that our baby had decreased movement her placenta was failing a bit and her heart rate was decreased. When we told VCU med that we were essentially turned away from henrico doctors because we weren't a priority they were shocked and even appalled. Still Henrico doctors haven't called us (maybe they know we're at VCU med) but I just want to add I'm really scared to think what would've happened to my little girl if we had waited for Henrico doctors to call us. I'm just disappointed about the quality of care imagine learning that if we had waited serious harm could've come to your baby. I'm really glad VCU was there to help. Even now us having to wait for Henrico doctors to declare us a priority has affected my gfs healthy pregnancy because we had to wait she may have to go through a C-section. The baby has been there for so long she pooped in the womb. Also now every time my gf has a contraction my baby's heart rate decreases. I cannot believe that the doctors at Henrico doctors declared us not a priority and now all of this is happening. If you're thinking about going here for your birth go to VCU med instead!! Today my mom received horrible treatment from nurse practioner Noli and Dr. Ric they are by far the worst I've ever seen in the medical feild they were rude an uncaring they made my mom visit horrible they were very nasty to my mom knowing my mom was in excruciating pain they offered a Lidocaine patch to my mom sent her home and told her to take Tylenol knowing my mom had a bad case of arthritis and it had gotten worse I don't recommend this hospital to people of color. read more

***This review is based off on my baby delivery*** After doing the hospital tour at Henrico Doctor's Hospital, I decided that this was where I wanted to deliver my baby. The tour was simple and to the point. Be sure to register online if you plan on delivering your baby here! I delivered my baby here in April 2018. The service, nurses and doctors were FANTASTIC! I cannot express how thankful I was to have them there. They were friendly, professional, and very helpful in my first-time delivery. I ended up having to have a C-section and all of the doctors and nurses did the best that they could to help me try to deliver our lil man naturally. We stayed at the hospital for 3 days and the nurses that I had assigned to us were fabulous. They were all so friendly, helpful, and professional in helping me recover and enjoy our little one. I highly recommend sending your newborn to the nursery so that you and your significant other and rest up. If my husband and I plan for any more little ones, this is the hospital I would choose to deliver at again. read more
