Me and my buddies are Americans and we came to Dublin for spring break. This is the first place we went when we got here and it was awesome. I have a new favourite restaurant in Dublin! Part of the new Docklands development, Herbstreet looks back over the water towards the Grand Canal. It's a funky sort of place with a heap of style and an eco-friendly focus, but they haven't forgotten about producing good food either. The flavours are fresh, zingy and Mediterranean inspired. I had an amazing grilled haloumi and cous cous salad (an absolute steal at €12). My dining partner tried the vegetable platter which had a few mini veggie burgers, some lovely pieces of haloumi wrapped in preserved peppers and courgette, and a tasty salad. Again, real value at 12 quid. Unlike a lot of places in Dublin nearly the whole wine list is available by the glass, and the service is both friendly and sharp as a tack. Criticisms, hmmmm..... well, the hand dryers in the bathroom are very loud - you can hear them from the restaurant floor. The tables don't have wide enough bases, if you leaned really hard on a corner you would tip it over. I'm searching here. A fantastic find. I'm going back on the next nice day to sit outside with a Brahma (Brazilian beer) and a book. Heaven. read more

Visited Herbstreet for brunch during my stay in Dublin and it was packed but for the best of reasons- the food was absolutely delicious! I ordered the vegetarian brunch and received a large and satisfying portion. The staff was super friendly and made my group feel right at home. The prices were also decent, especially for the amount of food you get on your plate. The restaurant is also conveniently located in the city center, so we were able to explore and walk around after a big meal. read more

I was there last Saturday for brunch, with a friend of mine. There were no tables available outside when we arrived, so we were seated inside. We had our food (which was not too bad) and paid. We then realized that there were 3 tables available outside, so we decided to go out and have a smoke. We sad down at one of the free tables outside and as soon as we lit up our cigarettes, the owner/manager came up to us. He told us we had to leave, in case another customer was to come, and demanded that table. I'd like to remind you that we had already eaten inside, and was only having a cigarette with 3 tables empty outside and no one waiting for a table at that stage. I told the guy we were only having a cigarette and we would leave as soon as we were done, but he was super rude about it and told us that he could not have people waiting or could not seat people at another table, wait for us to finish our smokes, and re-seat them. I did not want to argue with the guy - but seriously? There was no one waiting for a table, 3 empty tables outside, and we were only occupying the seat for 5 mins max - and I was ready to leave if somebody showed up and was looking for a table! It's not my fault that they were not able to seat me outside in the first place, but I did not complain about that. We finally got up, had our smokes standing up, staring at the empty table. I will not be going back there. The food is okay, but I don't necessarily care about that all that much - I'm mostly looking for a pleasant brunch experience, one I did NOT get last Saturday at Herb Street. read more

More than this, like almost every restaurant in dublin, they really take care about babies, so for my daughter they provide us also some pencils and paper to color .... My family and I came here for brunch while visiting Dublin and everyone really enjoyed it. The food was delicious - and a great selection for everyone! The french toast with rum battered bananas and pecans was SO good. The staff was so friendly. We showed up with seven people on a busy morning and were told to wait a few minutes - by the time we sat down outside to wait, our table was ready. Such a great place to get breakfast! During my vacation, we stopped here twice for breakfast because of how amazing the food was! The first time I had the French toast, bacon, and maple syrup. The French toast consisted of two thick pieces of Challah bread that were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The bacon was perfect- so much better than what we consider as bacon in America! My husband had the pancakes with whiskey apples and clotted cream. These were the best pancakes either one of us has ever had!! The apples and clotted cream made the perfect topping- no butter or syrup needed. On our second time in, we had the full Irish breakfast which was great and very filling. It came with scrambled eggs (husband said they were sensational) sausage, bacon, toast, baked beans, black pudding, and a roasted tomato. Everything was delicious! Dropped in yesterday and was really surprised how delicious everything was, not that I was expecting it to be bad! But really really enjoyed the Turkey burger and sweet potato wedges. Besides the burger being giant it was great real tasty, my first time having turkey burgers to. The sweet potatoes again were huge, they came with a relish that was a tiny bit spicy but sweet and tasty. Went on my lunch hour I had walked there sat down, ordered, been served and was out in about 50 minutes which was great service was super quick. It was €15 fro the burger which I thought was a little expensive for what it was but after eating it I would go again and happily pay the €15. I couldn't fault my experience in Herbstreet. Went here for a birthday celebration and the staff went above and beyond what I could have hoped for, even bringing complementary pancakes (which were by FAR the best I've ever tasted) at the end of our breakfast. I had the breakfast of champions which was exceptionally fresh as well as tasty, great if you want something a little different. I tried some of the full Irish breakfast too, also one of the best I've had in my memory. Really relaxed atmosphere, with a great view over the docks. 10/10 experience here, would give it a higher star rating if possible! read more

This is one of my favourite places to visit. Located next to Grand Canal Square and the Bord Gais Theatre. Was here yesterday after nearly 6 month absence and was not disappointed. It is in very high demand, so have a reservation or show up early when they open, if you want to avoid waiting in the queue! It is spotlessly clean, has a great atmosphere and the food is AMAZING and very good value. The chicken wings rival the famous Elephant and Castle wings, the burgers are perfect and any specials I've tried have always hit the spot. The menu covers the aforementioned burgers (with choice of 2 toppings), chicken wings and a range of interesting salads and sandwiches. The combo platter is perfect for when you can't decide what to have - it's a bit of everything - soup, bread, a ham terrine and a slice of quiche. There's also plenty of healthy options for when you're being 'good', like the super salad or Tuscan style baked hake. For dessert I'd recommend the Herbstreet Iceberger bar, a wrapped Ice cream sandwich made with flourless chocolate cake . And to drink? Pineapple & Ginger Pimms, cool ginger beer, fresh pineapple, cucumber and mint over ice .Great spot! well worth checking out! :) read more

My favourite place to eat in Dublin! I go here at least 1 (and often 2) weekends a month for brunch. I usually order pancakes, maple syrup and sausage (these have to be home made they are so tasty, have nice herby flavours and no fatty bits). I have gone for dinner a couple of times too. I have had both the beef burger and the turkey burger - both which I'd really recommend. They sometimes have a raspberry and white chocolate ice cream in the menu which is to die for. Oh I almost forgot the chicken wings.... Wow... Huge portion and absolutely delicious! Staff are great too, really friendly and efficient! This place is always busy, be prepared to queue. Expensive brunch but generous portions and a nice atmosphere overlooking the water and contemporary architecture near the Bord Gas Theater. Don't always trust what the menu says! Both dishes that my friend and I had were missing key components of the dishes listed on the menu and specials board, but there was no explanation. The omissions of black pudding (from the Full Irish) and a fig-apricot compote (from my couscous with Halloumi) took the dishes from being unique or enticing to rather simple, but all the waitstaff seemed too busy to bother and we went ahead and enjoyed as-it-came. read more

The service is great, and atmosphere is nice as well, I highly recommend it and will probably return on this very trip for another meal! I had the best french toast of my life here. It was served with a side of bacon, which was really good. I had apple juice to drink, which was better than any apple juice I've had in the States. We came for an early dinner. The octopus salad was excellent: the octopus itself was deliciously grilled and part of a generally well composed salad. Fabulous location especially when sunny, but tables outside are popular so be prepared to wait! I had the fish tacos, served with sweet potato chips and an avocado dip. Delicious! The pimms ginger cocktail is also amazing. One flaw is the owner/manager. I've spoken to a few people about this who share similar views. He is plain rude and full of arrogance. Could do with getting off his high horse as he must make it an awful atmosphere for his staff. I would recommend it, but I always warn people about this man. read more

Scrummy!! Last meal of a wonderful girls reunion and couldn't have chosen better. Food was all delicious, hearty, vibrant and completely yummy. Sure they had the racist tweet about John-Joe Nevin during the 2012 London Olympics (followed by the lame "someone stole our log-in" excuse when called out on it) but I'm back visiting Herb Street after my self-imposed 1-year protest boycott. I live quite close by and this is a great place to go for brunch on weekends - the only problem being its popularity means you may have to wait for a table on occasion, especially when dropping by between 1pm & 2pm. That said, it's worth the wait as the food is excellent. I really like the Eggs Benedict and it's almost my default selection. However, I've sampled a range of menu options and I've never been disappointed. I recently had the tall stack of pancakes and they were absolutely delicious, even though I was slightly distracted by getting into an eating race with a guy sitting at the next table. Nothing was said, and we didn't know each other, but I knew he was trying to pass me out. It didn't happen and it didn't spoil my pancake enjoyment either - win, win. I'm also a fan of the breakfast with the exception of the weird potato cake thingy - I can't put my finger on it but it tastes a little bit off. My girlfriend recommends the French Toast and the Prawns by the way. They also have "Wexford Apple Juice", which I get every time for no other reason than I'm from Wexford. I'm clearly not easily influenced but this is good too and so is the coffee. No complaints with the service (once you get a table) and it's nice to sit outside at summer time. Prices are pretty reasonable for the quality of the food and I'd give this establishment a mark of 192 out of 240 based on all of the above. I believe that equates to 4 out of 5 on the Yelp scale. read more

Mexican eggs is fantastic. Baked eggs served on top of spicy pork that stays moist with a light tomato sauce, topped with cheese and green onions. It's served with chips and guacamole. As a Californian, the guacamole was a big no for me. But everything else was tasty. Get there early because it fills up fast. read more

We had the eggs Benedict and French toast and while I was expecting the food to be good, it exceeded my expectations. Brunch was very busy but they seem to be good at turning tables and we did not have to wait long for a table. Delicious freshly squeezed orange juice, and we even got a free coffee when it was accidentally written into our order.
