Quaint cozy and excellent spot for brunch food. Sitting across Stephens park, this is a great place to do by befor or after a stroll in the park. The ingredients used are top quality and you can tell they really respect the ingredients. I had the avocado toast on Soda bread and bacon (. Daily special) and the portion was big! Perfectly ripe avocados seasoned and delicious. I'd say to get two avocados with your serving. The soda bread is absolutely yummy too. My bf had the twice cooked eggs and bacon skillet and he demolished it. Next time I'm visiting, definitely coming back!
I didn't have a hangover from last night's pub crawl, but if I did, then this would have solved it. It's a small restaurant, located right on St. Stephen's Green. Downstairs and quite warm on a cool day, but I arrived at the right time and was brought to a table immediately. I opted for the baked eggs breakfast and a few minutes later, my delicious meal was brought to me. Inside a small iron pan, two eggs had been cracked and a half tomato added. It had been put into the broiler and the eggs were perfectly cooked and the tomato nicely roasted. The side of soda bread and fresh Irish butter was perfect with it. As for the coffee? Great stuff but not quite cheap. Americans are used to refillable drip coffee and forget that Europeans are per-cup and espresso based. Oh, well. A small price to pay. A terrific meal and in a great tourist location. Yum!
Service and atmosphere were nice. Friendly staff. But there were some issues. The salt container had no top so obviously it had hair in it. Pepper container was empty. That's fine, minor things. The main course was the major issue. The twice baked eggs seemed like a novel idea but what it means is that the eggs turn gray/black and are overdone. The "plate" was just a slab of wood. It was cute but not effective. It was significantly too small for the many tinier pieces that's came with the meal (sausage, bacon, tomato and bread) which was a shame because all those topping with the eggs were excellent. I am calling them topping because the eggs were served in a tiny iron skillet with all the other items on top because the plate was too small to house them all. It was an issue while eating. Just a lot of style over substance but it was decently priced and was a fair amount of food for breakfast. The head chef should try eating this meal at peak brunch time because while it was creative and looks pretty it wasn't easy to eat.
My ideal Irish breakfast. Between the adorable ambiance and delectable food, I can't tell which I liked better. This is quite a find and I'm glad it's not super popular. It's right below the little museum of Dublin and across from the park. The baked eggs are by far the breakfast item to get and you will not be disappointed by the sausage that comes with it. The bread was also amazing and they had a fresh selection of scones that was sold out by the end of my meal. I was sad I couldn't take any to go! The porridge was also very good and quite filling for 3euros. I'd recommend both. Get the tea ... you'll stick out if you don't.
Great spot a bit hidden in the downstairs of the Hugh Lane gallery. Very cute interior and a great way to cap off a museum visit. I order the pulled brisket blaas (which is a type of Irish white bread). The brisket had a lot of flavor and the Irish kimchi was and interesting touch that added some contrast in flavors. The cappuccino was also very good.
Baked eggs, bacon, sausage and tomato. Simplicity. Excellent sunny side eggs and the sausage so good. Came from the kitchen piping hot in a little skillet. Scones and jam are a must.
Solid food but questionable service Best prepared to do a lot of waiting and getting to experience receiving your meal in a novel order! To be fair, they were friendly, but man was it annoying Here's the step by step: - ordered a drink - ordered food - waited - received food (but not spoon and knife) - waited - received spoon - waited - received knife - started eating - waited ... - no staff came out, walked into kitchen - reminded then about the drink - FINALLY got a glass of water (about 30 minutes after my arrival, when I was one of 6 customers here!)
My first thought when I walked into Hatch & Sons? "Wow. It smells delish in here!" And the Wicklow Cheddar and Ham Blaa I ordered was, indeed, delicious. Service was quite good. It seemed like each time any of the servers would walk by my table, they would make sure I had everything I needed with a friendly smile or quick word. And although I'm not much of a dessert person, I will say, I was eyeing the carrot cake the patron at the next table was eating. Maybe next visit. And finally, it's worth noting, I had the best pot of tea of my entire Dublin visit here. Nice and strong, and at the perfect temperature. Absolutely lovely.
Perfect meal for a chilly day, the stews really hit the spot to warm our bodies after the rain made us cold. My 5 year old daughter says "I like the rain because it kind of cooled me off when I got out of the restaurant restaurant when I was in the restaurant I like the stew because it was like I I liked it because it was made out of Guinness and then it was pretty good" Kind of nice to find local craft beers from Ireland. The smoke stout was nice and smoky but not too strong. We had this food right before getting on the Viking tour.
Hatch & Sons is a great breakfast option and offers an excellent vibe. My bride and I stopped in after arriving in Dublin and the breakfast and coffee hit the spot. I've seen reviews stating the portions are small but I would strongly disagree and have noted this is prevalent from American's who are accustomed to eating more than they should anyhow. The food was good but the eggs I had were overdone for my liking and per how I ordered. All else was great though and the coffee was wonderful.

This is what we ate: Full Irish breakfast with eggs cooked in a skillet served with a tomato, sausages, bacon and brown bread with butter. A very hearty breakfast! The brown bread is delicious. A dense piece of bread. Eggs are over cooked but good with all the bacon and sausages Love the coffee! Smooth and great. Served in a pot. Hubby had the mackerel salad. Looked fresh with beets and carrots. Friendly service.
Didn't come here for the famed brunch, but was very pleased with supper nonetheless! The restaurant was almost completely empty on a Thursday night, but my two friends and I still had a terrific time. The prices are super reasonable and the food was delicious if limited (for dinner). I had the traditional Irish beef stew, one friend had a chicken casserole, and my vegetarian friend had the soup and a quiche. We split a bottle of wine, the cheese plate and three delectable desserts (these really cinched the experience). I'm definitely curious about the brunch offerings as my friend loved her quiche and the desserts spoke to the baking ability of the kitchen (raspberry crumble was incredible).
Hatch and Sons is a cute, quaint little cafe that's perfect for breakfast and brunch. However, it's fairly busy and service is slow, even with several waiters, so don't expect it to be a speedy meal. We ordered the following: - Double baked eggs, brown soda bread, bacon, sausage, roast tomato: The soda bread and the butter were the best part of this dish, followed by the sausage. The double-baked eggs were rubbery and stuck to the cast-iron dish they were served in. Would still order again. - Beef and Guinness stew: Boyfriend really enjoyed this. I tried it, and it was delicious--rich and hearty. Would probably order again. - Poached seasonal fruit, granola, Killowen yogurt: Standard granola and yogurt. Note that "poached seasonal fruit" was basically preserves. Would order again if craving yogurt and granola. The service was a bit harried. Twice, we were served dishes that belonged to the table next to us, and different waiters took our order, served our dishes, and refilled our water glasses. It wouldn't have been so frustrating if there were communication between servers, since we had to repeat requests more than once. Overall, food was above average and service was below average, but I'd still come back.

Hatch and Sons was the first meal I had when I got to Dublin, and frankly it set the mood in the best of ways for my time there. Sunken below street level it feels more off the main path and you have to keep your eyes out to find it easily. Walking in the place has a real chill and cozy vibe up front. I was seated right way and ordered off their all day menu. I got their Double Baked eggs, brown soda bread, bacon, sausage and roast tomato. For my tastes the double baked eggs were overdone, but that's double baked for you. Everything else was so delicious though that I truly didn't even notice. It was a wonderful pile of meat overflowing out of a little skillet with a stack of soda bread and butter. Truly it was a delight. I also ordered up their irish coffee. This was especially fun because it's not a simple shot of whiskey, coffee and cream. They create a brown sugar syrup blended with the whiskey to cook off the alcohol but retain the flavor. This means you can day drink and not even bat an eye at it being strange. The flavor was delicious and I'll be trying to recreate this at home for sure. read more

Soda bread croutons? SOLD to the lady in the leopard-print jumper. Why have I never thought of doing this before?!! So crunchy and tiny and perfect and crunchy and tasty and crunchy. What a great addition to the Dublin scene Hatch and Sons is. As previous reviewers have mentioned, this is a cosy spot, not unlike a country kitchen at home. All the food is sourced locally and made fresh, which gives you that good feeling inside whilst you mill into whatever you've ordered. Even the drinks are local - Barry's Tea and Kombucha from Stoneybatter! Who knew! I ordered the free range chicken salad with buttermilk dressing, cheese and brown bread croutons (mmmmmm). It was lovely. I was a little disappointed in the dressing - it didn't really taste that buttermilky - it could nearly have been Caesar dressing, but the chicken was delicious and it was all really well presented. There is just a lovely atmosphere in this place. Great table dressing, old-style cutlery like you'd remember from your Granny's, a single thistle flower in a vase, and good old wooden tables. The chef works behind a giant kitchen table piled high with cakes, scones, and other yumminess. I'll definitely be back. read more

I think this place is a bit overrated. It wasn't special - great concept to incorporate soda bread to brunch menu but besides that nothing much. Service: very friendly and quick. However, seeing how everyone is in hurry, it makes me feel unease. As if, I have to leave here soon! I appreciate that they are moving fast, but the speed can comes with the comfortable interactions, too :) Food: they were delicious, but were not above and beyond. It was so-so for me. We got 1) today's special which was the combination of avocado, tomatoes, bacons, and soda bread and 2) double baked eggs, sausages, bacon, and soda bread. I felt like I could just make them home except soda bread. Cleanness: the place was very neat and trendy. Definitely a good place for coffee and a small scone or something. But I feel like decorations of the place did not exceed their food. Overall: i got the tourist impression, tbh. Some Irish specific books that can be readily found from the tourist souvenir stores were displayed at the cashier. Decorations are superior to Food. It was good to check off my list, but I personally don't think that I would come back again. read more
The concept of Hatch and Sons is to celebrate Irish ingredients. They do breakfasts all day from €3.50 for poached seasonal fruit served with granola and yogurt to €7.50 for their baked eggs, brown soda bread, bacon and sausage with roast tomato. Indeed its all Irish. So no croissants, but other baked yummy stuff. I was starving and didn't have breakfast that day so I decided to go for the whole breackfast package, the star of their menu. The food was brought to me still sizzling in its pan on a wooden board. I must say I loved the way it was presented. The dish was lovely, substantial without being too fatty. So if you're looking for smiling staff, an oasis of calm in bustling Dublin. See you there. read more
Have waked past this place a few time always thinking that I should try it. So a few weeks ago myself the the better half dropped in around lunch time. We had about a 5 min wait until a table cleared up for us and when it we were brought to our table which was in a second room at the back of the restaurant. It seated about 20 or so. If I go back again I'd ask not to be seated in that room again. The high ceilings and the size of the room created a loud echoing atmosphere. Was kinda hard to talk over. So after sitting at the table for 25 mins clearly looking board and hungry at this stage asked if someone could take our order. Which the guy did. Another 30 mins later our food came out!! Finally! As I was about to leave! I ordered the full Irish which is served in a small skillet pan and brown bread. I was disappointed from the get go! Everything apart from the bread was over done! The egg was just like rubber. We ate our food as we now had no time to eat somewhere else. When paying the bill on the way out the waiter asked if everything was alright to which I replied, No, we were waiting nearly an hour for our food. It's not good enough for a lunch menu. He looked surprised and just said sorry we're busy today. read more
Great little spot right beside Stephens Green for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Down a small staircase by the Little Museum (also worth a look!) there's a small outdoor seating area that feels nice and private considering the central location. Inside is pretty nice too-the place has a lovely homely but modem vibe. Menu is decently priced with a couple of curveballs (e.g fish cakes for €11.50-way overpriced) but overall a great way to spend a morning or afternoon. Staff are lovely too! read more

Spent a week in Dublin just after Christmas. Found this place through Yelp and first had breakfast and it was one of the nicest, comfortable places we went to during the trip. Breakfast was great, free papers and good coffee. Went back another afternoon and had a bottle of wine (nice) and irish cheeses. It was excellent. Would highly recommend and return next time. read more
It's little places like this that make me so glad to be part of the Yelp community-- I would never even have noticed the place! It's down below the Little Museum of Dublin and it's a clean, open and cosy café. It wasn't too busy when I was there, on a Thursday morning after nine, so the service was perfect. I had the baked eggs with sausage and bacon and it hit the spot just nicely! The brown bread that came along with it was just delicious, and the coffee I had was incredible! Rich and chocolatey and with a nice touch of latte art. I'll definitely be back again! read more

Great central location but it's downstairs positioning gives you a little break away from the bustling streets. I came here for tea which I welcomely received in a big mug that made me feel instantly comfortable and at home. Seeing my friends sandwich I found myself back the next day to try my own. I had half the beet root and half the spiced beef (shared with my girlfriend) and they were both AMAZING. So reasonably priced and with such a lovely feel about the place it is one of my new favourites in Dublin. read more
It's a very open kitchen, so much so that I didn't even realize the kitchen was right there and I almost walked right into it. There's a very rustic, this is your home kinda open vibe here. Sadly, we only had one breakfast here. I only wish we had more meals to spend at Hatch and Sons. We both had the double baked eggs with breakfast meats. Everything was delightful, though I wish the butter wasn't so ice cold despite being near a hot skillet. I was a bit disappointed that one of the two double baked eggs had a completely baked yolk. However, the accompanying brown bread was quite good. We also tried a scone. The scone has a tender crumb and comes paired with jam and butter. read more

Oh my goodness, yes! The food and coffee were both phenomenal. Both my boyfriend and I enjoyed the double baked eggs with bacon, sausage, and tomato. I was so happy with how everything was prepared. The food was so fresh tasting. The restaurant was clean and had a great rustic homey feel. read more

My husband and I loved this place so much we kept wishing we could have one in the bay area, but if this place was in, say, San Francisco it would take an hour to get in and cost twice as much, so I guess it's best left here. :) I chose this place after seeing pictures of the food online. After sitting on a 10 hour flight to Dublin and dropping off our bags, we came here for our first meal on our honeymoon. The strong cup of tea and simple, yet delicious sandwich was exactly what I needed to get me through the day. I had the blaas (soft, white roll) with goat cheese, roasted roots and beetroot relish. The richness of the goat cheese was really balanced out by the other ingredients. My husband got the spiced beef blaas, which he really enjoyed. The ambiance here is lovely, like being in a friend's kitchen. We liked it so much we even came back, something we rarely do on vacation, since we like trying new places. When we came back for breakfast, I had tea and a scone and my husband had the double baked egg with bacon, sausage and roasted tomato- yum! One of the waitresses recommended a pub that we ended up loving- P.Mac's. read more
I love this place for breakfast and for brunch! It's a little easy to miss (since it's down the stairs) but once you try this place out you'll definitely...miss it even more! Ha ha ha! I love how the baked eggs come in a mini cast iron skillet. I love the coconut/raspberry/lemon slice and the coffee walnut cake. Also really like that you can get a pot of coffee for two - which is perfect because often find yourself going in parties of multiple of twos. :) The beef stew was amazing and if the special is chicken casserole - get it! Soda bread is delicious and the sausage sandwich is filling. All of the food is super fresh and super yummy. read more

Go here. Eat the baked eggs. Get a pot of coffee. Enjoy the quaint atmosphere, friendly staff, and start your day off with a smile. Loved this place so much when my husband and I were in Dublin we came back a second time. Should have gone everyday, it was the best breakfast we had! read more

Central and very cosy place. You have to like the hipster kind of atmosphere but the food is really good and not too much expensive. Perfect for a late Sunday brunch. The fruit crumble is to die for ! read more

Hatch and Sons, you can bake my eggs. In fact, you can bake all the eggs. Last week's Sunday Brunch took place at Hatch and Sons and after having this place bookmarked for over a year, I was really eggcited to give this place a try. I ordered the Double Baked Eggs, which came in a small pan with bacon, sausage, and roasted tomato with a side of soda bread. The food was beautifully presented and everything was cooked perfectly. As soon as my knife broke into the yolk, angels started singing in celestial awe. I'm usually not a big fan of bacon, but I've got to say I thoroughly enjoyed it--or perhaps it's the Irish growing in me. One thing I loved about this place was the interior setting--an open kitchen with tables all around. It's like you're enjoying a nice meal at a family get together. The only thing I didn't appreciate about this place was the service. Our server had a very please-order-and-leave attitude and I didn't like it, especially when I was real keen on trying this place out. Other than that, I had a nice experience here and would come again. read more
First impressions are promising. A lovely space in a great location just off Stephens Green, decor is understated retro cottage style. The chefs assemble the food on a gigantic island table which is almost in the middle of the restaurant floor. Staff very friendly and welcoming to the passing tourist and local alike. I ordered the filter coffee which was amazing, and the double baked eggs with brown soda bread, sausage and bacon. While I waiting I saw another diner getting the porridge which looked very nice and served in a huge bowl (take note Starbucks with your minuscule porridge portions!) with a pot of organic honey. The sausage blaas at the table next to me also looked great, real Waterford blaas in Dublin? Looked like it. Served on wooden paddles so sure to infuriate the "we want plates" brigade! My double baked eggs arrived in a cast iron skillet on the ubiquitous wooden board, with soda bread and a knob of butter riding sidesaddle. The butter was a bit cold and solid but sliding it over next youths piping hot skillet soon sorted that. The sausages were cooked butterfly style but we're pretty small, the bacon was crispy and had a beautiful smoky flavour. I'd have preferred more back and less sausage but there you go. If I was going again if skip the bacon & sausage and just have the eggs on their own, they are that good (and the dish is €4 cheaper to boot). The American tourists at the next table asked to take away the leftover porridge, a request that was greeted not just with good grace but also the offer from their server of a small takeaway pot of honey to accompany it... they were also engaged in conversation when they asked about the way their bacon was cooked to be so divinely crispy. I have a lot of respect for the staff who work here - they are simultaneously chefs, waiters and waitresses, front of house and also food evangelists as well as being very friendly, engaging & good humoured. A lot of bigger establishments could learn from their level of service. Kudos to Hatch & Sons, I'll be back to tackle that massive bowl of porridge next. read more

First meal in Dublin! Really urban and delicious! I had the salted beef baas and it was super satisfying and gourmet for only about 6.50 euros as well. The overall environment of the place was also hip and trendy. I think I met the owner who was also a really nice lady. read more
Sensible Breakfast well almost if you exclude the apple streusel. This is a nice spot and I must have walked past it many times and never noticed it tucked away down under the little museum of Dublin. The inside is old cottage, nice and open. The porridge will keep me full for the next 2 weeks and the filter coffee they serve is simply outstanding. We shared an apple streusel that was full of apple snd very thickly sliced. Give this place a try you won't be disappointed. read more
