downtown disney is the perfect disneyland/california adventure pre-game. i walked here from my…read morehotel, so i can't really speak to the parking situation, but it's free to enter & the whole area is disney-themed, so you get a little taste of the disney magic before even stepping into the parks. there are tons of stores, restaurants, food carts, snack carts & little shops to walk around & explore. i loved just walking around, grabbing snacks & taking everything in. it does get very busy, but honestly, that's kind of part of the disney experience. just be prepared for crowds & disney prices because everything is definitely more expensive than what you'd find outside of a disney-related place.

Today, Sunday, September 13, around 1:30 PM, my family had an extremely disappointing experience at…read morethe Downtown Disney entrance to Disneyland, near the Earl of Sandwich area. My entire family was visiting from Texas, and this was a very special day for us because my husband and I were bringing our six-year-old autistic twins to Disneyland for the first time. Our boys are nonverbal, still wear diapers, and have special needs that require us to plan carefully when taking them into public places. We were bringing our boys through the security line in a wagon. We had actually planned to meet our family at Downtown Disney for lunch before continuing into the park. My husband and I have been Disneyland passholders for the past two years, so this was not an unfamiliar place for us. The supervisor of the security guards, who was wearing a tie, informed us that wagons were not allowed and that we would have to take our children and the wagon all the way back to our car, leave the wagon there, and then return. We were also told that they do not store wagons. What was most upsetting was how the situation was handled. At no point did anyone ask why our children were in the wagon or attempt to understand our circumstances. We were simply told what we had to do, and the interaction made us feel as though we were doing something wrong. I understand that Disneyland has rules regarding what can and cannot enter the parks. We are not upset about being informed of a policy. What hurt us was the complete lack of compassion and understanding shown toward two young, nonverbal autistic children and their parents. For our family, the wagon isn't simply a convenience. It is an important part of safely managing our children in a crowded environment. Being expected to take two autistic children all the way back to the car, leave the wagon, and walk back without anyone even attempting to understand why we needed it was incredibly upsetting. This was supposed to be a very special first Disneyland experience for our boys and a day celebrating with our family who came all the way from Texas. Instead, we left feeling embarrassed, unwelcome, and discriminated against because of our children's needs. My husband and I have been loyal Disneyland passholders for the last two years. Unfortunately, after today's experience, we have decided that we will not be renewing our passes or continuing to visit Disneyland. Disneyland has always presented itself as a place where families and children can feel welcome. I sincerely hope management takes this experience seriously and considers whether its employees are being trained not only to enforce policies, but also to do so with compassion, respect, and awareness of families with disabilities. Our children deserved better than the way this situation was handled today.

There was no apparent urgency to address the odor or acknowledgment of how unpleasant it was for customers. A Nike store should not be operating with an odor so severe that customers feel sick being inside. Management should have taken the situation seriously and addressed it immediately. I ended up spending over 2 hours in there and found 2 pairs of Skechers sneakers. Off-Broadway (now Rack Room Shoes) has the Buy One Get One 50% off all year round. However, their prices are not really discounted prices. Service is good here. If they don't have your size, they will order and ship to your home for free.
