Honestly, I'm surprised by the low ratings on this place. I grew up going here with my grandmother when it was Martin Viette's. The new owners have kept up the same high-level of quality, huge selection, upscale vibe, gift shops, indoor plants, outdoor plants, friendly, helpful, employees, and beautiful, peaceful atmosphere. They're no more expensive, than any other plant nursery unless you're comparing them to Home Depot and Lowe's and there's really no comparison. I found the employees to be very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There is a huge selection of garden plants, pots, statuary etc. Multiple gift shops inside. They have a rewards program so I would sign up for it if you shop there. There are chickens, roosters, and I think it was baby goats, so there's fun things for the kids to do too. It's extremely clean and very well organized. The plants look really healthy. I was very impressed. read more

I was craving some fall vibe outside of the city. We stopped by this farm while looking for some cozy fall vibes on Long Island, and it definitely had that seasonal charm. Food & Drinks: 4/5 I was mostly here for the food, so I went straight for the apple cider and donuts. The cider (12oz) was around $1.50 and tasted classic--not too sweet and warm--but the donut situation was a little disappointing. It was dry and not warm at all. They had pre-packaged ones with extra sugar on top, and I personally just wanted a simple, fresh one. We also grabbed a pumpkin loaf, and in total spent $18 for a pumpkin loaf, three donuts, and two ciders, which isn't terrible. Ambiance: 5/5 It's clearly a spot for gardeners and families--lots of pumpkins, plants, and kids running around. If you're not here to garden or bring kids, you might run out of things to do pretty quickly. Still, the setting is lovely for a short stop, especially if you're already in the area. Service: 3/5 Lines for drinks were a bit long, and the setup felt slightly unorganized, but the staff was polite and trying their best with the crowd. In all in all, a nice little fall stop if you're nearby or just want a quick cider-and-donut moment, but not a place I'd go far out of the way for--unless you're gardening or pumpkin-picking with family. read more

We would visit the farm on special events such as Halloween and Easter. It's definitely a family neighborhood museum yet less chaotic. We had to pay entry each time to participate in the Easter Egg Hunt or Fall Festival. They had an idea where families can play games and pet animals. It's basically a garden store. They also sell items from Jericho Cider Mill. I do not leave the farm empty handed as I end up buying something from the store. read more

Pocket full of arrogance. A world class nursery with brilliant, knowledgeable, staff has gone the way of the dodo bird. Don't shop here if you expect any type of service. Management will happily defend their "excellent staff." Meanwhile, the staff you interact with seems to lack smarts and initiative. And spelling. Bottom Line: management doesn't care what your experience is - they are too busy on the defensive with "their ears wide shut." I have long supported my local nurseries, always leaving happy and upbeat - not agitated and furious - with all four staff/management interactions. Does common courtesy and smarts need to be taught to these folks? Buyer beware. Bring back the former Martin Viette, please. read more

Definitely heard the locals being upset about the $10 and yes it's a short maze and kid play area with a few animals but it's clean and neat and parking is available and it's local. The cider donuts are from Jericho cider mill and there's coffee. The $10 per person should go to the baristas. They put a younger newer person at the register and she struggled to scan and recognize items on a busy Sat and the barista was tired of it. If they staffed better there would be amazing. Regardless there is a lot of seating and games and things to purchase, it's a one stop shop for fall hangout. Also if they got some local fresh made ice cream would also be amazing, and fresh caramel apples! read more

Plants die quickly. Bought 2 barberies, a hydrangea and a grass and all are now dead. That's a lot of plants to die. The rose bush took. My daughter who lives in Centerport also bought a bayberry: now dead. Would never buy anything ever again from this garden center. Had a similar experience with plants from there a few years ago. All good things come to an end, or ruined by social media and greed. We have been coming loyally to HF for 8 years, for the Fall festival, Christmas and spring plant season and when they generously offer craft days for kids on holiday breaks. We always make a purchase when free activities are offered because we are grateful for the generosity. Heritage was my family's favorite place, and because they did so much for free for kids we always loyally shopped for whatever we could there. With all of that said they are now charging $10-$25 for their Fall festival. We visited today and not only do they charge minimum of $10 for the kids us adults have to pay $10 too to enter the play area that was once free. It's the same area with the exception of the crafts that has been free for 8 years. The person who handles their crafts proudly shared she hired influencers to post about the Fall Festival and advertise. So are we the customers now paying for your influencers? Heritage farm was a gem, the employees are amazing, the guys that work there at Christmas are amazing, and couldn't be nicer. But now Heritage Farm has gotten greedy. It's one thing to charge for kids who will enjoy the corn maze, animals you can't pet or feed and the play area, its another to charge adults who have no choice but to also enter the play area and be good parents supervising our children. Hundreds of people today and two bathrooms in the whole place. Lines upon lines. Staff that were once happy and friendly, overwhelmed and miserable. I can no longer recommend this place. And if they needed to begin charging it should have been done another way. This is plain greed. My family and another family showed up today to get out and enjoy someplace beautiful. Heritage made $100 off of us just to walk onto the play area another $20 in sand art. All to stay for an hour because there isn't much more to do there than hang for an hour. Sorry Heritage, I have loved you for nearly a decade but in this case it's you and not me. And there were dozens of other parents saying the same thing we felt today. I hope the social media customers you acquired with these changes support you for the long haul like we did these last 8 years. read more

We came here last year with the kids and absolutely loved it. It was clean, well organized and the staff were great. This year was a much different experience. It was a busier day because schools were off but it was completely disorganized and the staff had no idea how to even do a simple transaction for tickets to the playground. Some adults were paying, some weren't, and no one was there to check if you had paid or not which wasn't fair to the adults (4 in our party) that did pay. But the issue I was most upset with was they allowed dogs in the kids play area. I watched as a woman let her dog urinate all over one of the pieces set up for kids to climb on. The woman denied it when I confronted her about it but it was so disgusting. I have no idea why dogs would ever be allowed in there unless it was a service dog, which this absolutely was not. I don't think we will be back. read more

My wife has been here many times over the years with our daughter and this past weekend I brought the little one and our niece to enjoy the fall/Halloween festivities they made the space into. Teeming with many families taking in one of the last perfect days with perfect weather, there is so much for the kids to do and explore. An entire field was fenced in and made into a fun play space for the kiddos complete with pumpkins, slides, cut-out boards for photo opportunities, a corn maze and ample room to run and play. There is a cafe to get warm apple cider and coffee and various munchies to take the edge off any hunger pangs you may have and while touristy priced was a decent value. Other items included Halloween decorated candies and cookies. Also take time to wander around the nursery for pots, plants, hay stalks and decor for your home. All around a good way to spend a pleasant afternoon. read more

I have always liked this nursery but as the years have gone by they are adding more and more birds in the cages in the back of the store. Today there was a sign saying that "the birds are timid so please don't.....whatever. Didn't read the rest of the sign. I had come to buy a lot of plants but left . I don't think birds in cages need to be there to provide ...what? Entertainment for families? Instead it's a bad message. Birds are meant to fly. They get depressed in cages. Best place ever! Had a wonderful day with my kids at heritage farm and gardens . - as always the staff makes all guests feel like family and does everything in their power to make the kids happy - The kids really enjoyed the Easter egg hunt, taking pictures with the Easter bunny and doing the crafts . We are so lucky to have such a beautiful farm right here on Long Island, every weekend we can enjoy looking at different flowers and participating in different activities. I work with Michael Ireland and he is so accommodating. Our firm works between NYC and the Hamptons and we make a point to source from Heritage due to their selection and service. "Heritage" is a very clean, organized, and well structured nursery. All of the employees are very courteous, patient and knowledgeable of their merchandise. They have unique gifts throughout the facility and all of their plants are lush and healthy. It's a bit pricey, but they have such a wide range of products that I haven't seen anywhere else. It couldn't have been easy to follow "Martin Viette Nurseries" in this location, but they have made this lovely space their own. read more

Came to Heritage to look for a Christmas tree. I was pretty underwhelmed. Employees were nice and they were knowledgeable about the different kinds of firs. They have a Santa inside that you can take photos with during the holidays but the Santa, on the weekend that we went, looked like a teenager and he was not the best looking Santa... but it's free so what can you do. They also sell apple cider donuts and apple cider. Lots of festive decorations and... bird stuff. Heritage is smaller than I thought and not as bougie as I imagined it would be. Stopped by here after the Driven to America event at the Hoffman Center. They have a beautiful selection of fall harvest, pumpkins, apples, mums, and other plants. They have a shop selling pies, apple cider donuts, and other seasonal sweets and treats. The boutique and home decor store had some lovely furniture and home accents. Think Home Goods, but a bit pricier. I ended up buying a package of apple cider donuts ($6.99) and 3 tiny white pumpkins. ($5) I hadn't seen any of those at the farms near me. It's overpriced for sure, but they do have some beautiful home and garden items. It's a nice place to spend a Sunday morning or afternoon with your family. read more

All the in-season staples are found, along with exciting new hybrids or hardier varieties of favorites that will stand up to our local climate. Visitors can find patio furniture, fountains, planters, outdoor decor and every kind of garden supply imaginable, from gloves to bone meal. Their staff are generally trained in horticulture, and willing to help with advice on selection, guidance on soil and shade conditions or diagnostics when something isn't right. In addition to the quality of the experience, it really is a lovely trip to make on Long Island's picturesque north shore. 4 stars just because things can be a bit pricey, which with the quality and all this service really comes as no surprise. read more

After driving past this past 1000s of times going back and forth between Ouster Bay and Locust Valley , we stopped by today because I decided I wanted a Christmas Amaryllis on a whim. What a gorgeous place! So many cute Christmas decorations, plants and other gorgeous home goods. It was like a winter oasis on an otherwise dreary and muddy day. And YES I found my amaryllis and some other stuff as well! No more passing by without stopping in. read more

Beautiful day out with the kids! Not a ton of stuff but just enough for my 4 year old to have a wonderful day. He ran in the pumpkin patch, walked on the tire snake about 100x, fed the animals and walked through the corn maze. The store/nursery is adorable and had so many nice things for the home. The best part was that all of the activities were free! Unfortunately I didn't get to taste anything at the cafe but I definitely will next time. My 4/5 stars is just because they don't have a ramp to go down into the field for strollers/carts. It makes bringing pumpkins to the register slightly difficult. We lost a 70 year old maple tree last winter and went to Heritage Farm and Garden looking for a replacement. On September 5, 2023., we found a beautiful sugar maple, and then saw a lovely Kousa dogwood. We had them delivered and planted today with a 2-year guarantee. All we have to do is water them. The sales staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The four gentlemen who came today and planted our trees were wonderful! A great experience from start to finish. read more

I am not one who likes change and when Martin Viette was closing I was quite down about it. Everyone said they were building houses on that beautiful piece of property. Surprise! Heritage opened! And the best part was that many of the same staff were retained. Once it finally stopped raining, my husband and I made our annual visit for annuals. I also had some questions about my waterlogged roses. We found what we needed and what we didn't even know we wanted. What a lovely selection they have! And then, a familiar face from the MV days took an amazing amount of time to help diagnose my rose problem and directed me to proper medicine for it. Spring planting is such a wonderful ritual in our garden. We have many, many perennials so we can play with the annual du jour- this year we are going with an all white theme. They may be more expensive than Home Depot, but think of it as eating at MacDonalds vs dining at a fine restaurant. You get food at both places, but the experience is just so much nicer. read more

This place is ridiculous. I called ahead to make sure they have what I needed and I was assured by the person who answered the phone that they did indeed have it. I have a broken ankles it was important to me to know this before leaving my house. When I got to the location I had to make my way across their entire grounds to get the location where my item was supposed to be. Of course it was not there. When I asked one of the workers they told me that "we never ever carry that item." When I said I had called ahead they acted surprised and said "I don't know who would've told you that but we never carry that item." You can be sure that the millennials that answer the phone at Heritage Farm and Garden will tell you whatever you need to hear to get you to come to the location. I find this completely unacceptable. And I will never ever shop at Heritage Farm and Garden again. read more

What a rip-off- sent my daughter to pick out a tree She bought a $215 Christmas tree and they charged us $60 to deliver it 5 miles and another $100 to put it in the stand. A total of $160 set up and delivery for a $215 tree. Sam the manager said if we were unhappy we could go somewhere else. We will never set foot in there again! read more

What is more important after the sale - is the delivery and installation. The Heritage crew that did our installation of shrubs was courteous, understanding, and professional which made the job very smooth and the outcome was fantastic. They even washed off the cement and driveway, leaving a very finished look. High recommendation! read more

The place is nice and upscale, but the employees here are rather rude. When I was looking around no one asked me if I needed help instead every area I walked an employee just gave me a dirty look like I was bothering them by being there. I only bought a couple of packets of seeds and when I went to pay the cashier treated me as if I was a bothering her. I'm writing on behalf of my inlaws. They bought a very beautiful Christmas tree from here. Nice and tall and beautiful proportion, within a week the tree got hard on one side. They watered it constantly and after a few days it stopped drinking. About 11-12 days later the tree was so hard you can snap the beaches right off. Here we are Christmas night and they are afraid to light the tree because it's completely dead and don't want a fire. It's a shame because the money they spent over there for this tree this should not happen. Buyer beware next year. I bought a tree at Home Depot the beginning of December and it's still alive and well. Better off going there read more

Very expensive with little to show for it but twee displays. I'd have to visit in the Spring to get a full impression, but seems to me Heritage is a poor replacement for Martin Viette. Son & I visited once in the low season, and again for the "fall festival". Clearly this place is for the well-heeled, with all the privilege thereof. I wanted to ask a sales rep about Japanese paperberries, and was ignored by at least three salespeople, terribly involved in the aforementioned twee displays. If I want to spend money in a brick & mortar store, ignoring me is a surefire way to piss me off. Look, Hick's is expensive, too, but you get much bigger bang for your buck there. I hope the deep pockets in the north need a lot of landscape design, or Heritage will become exactly that. read more

Nice place but not as nice as the old Martin Viette.....the new owner needs to move the entrance doors back to where they were when Martin Viette had the place. He has the "EXIT" doors where the entrance doors used to be and it is a complete nonsense. read more

This place is great. One of a kind gift shop and nursery. They offer a great variety of modern, indoor planters. We were able to grab some Christmas gifts and have them complimentary wrapped by the helpful ladies in the shop. Plenty of parking and the grounds are beautiful, def recommend for tree shopping too. read more

An awful experience, rude staff, and overpriced. Visited over the weekend with my family for their Fall Festival, what a joke. Pumpkins were disgusting and overpriced, baked goods had mold, and apples were bruised. Do not waste your time, take the trip out east. Missing Martin Viette! read more
