He was also going to paint the frame when he brought the new screen. He said it should arrive by the end of the week. Over the last 6 weeks, I have called and left messages, most of which were ignored. When I finally talked to the salesman after 3 1/2 weeks, he said it would be in the next week and he'd call. When I hadn't heard from him a week after that date, he said he'd check on it and get "right back" to me. Again nothing and again he didn't return my message the next day. Luckily, I hadn't paid anything and have since found a screen online. I don't know if this is now typical of YB&D customer service. They converted my fireplace from wood-burning to gas several years ago and I was beyond pleased with their service. I'm disappointed and bewildered as to why the negative service now.

Right when my boyfriend and myself (both African American) walked in three caucasian men, wearing "Lansing Tile & Mosaic" sweatshirts, starred at us and started cracking up laughing. I did not know what was funny and thought maybe they were telling a job amongst themselves. Then an older African American lady came in. They started laughing even more. While sitting down trying to enjoy my breakfast all you can hear are the 3 ignorant men laughing and telling disrespectful jokes underneath their breath. I could not enjoy my breakfast, especially with those men starring at me. I just think those type of actions aren't a way you'd want to carry yourself, or even represent the company you work for.

I agree with other comments that if you don't have a huge project needing done McDaniel's does not…read morewant to be bothered. In October 2025, we chose to remodel our bathroom. We chose McDaniel's because we prefer to support local when possible, and we felt we would receive more personal and professional care from them than from a big box store. Nicole R. (our designer, who was more of a salesperson than a designer) was a total disappointment. Her communication skills were almost non-existent. We were often waiting days to weeks (even with reminders) for her to return a call or an email. When she chose to communicate, she was abrupt, condescending, scattered in her thoughts, and made promises to appease us, but later nothing came of her promises. It is now April and the project is still not completed. We had to pay $100 before McDaniel's would measure the area. Nicole did not accurately measure the height of the vanity and the length and height of the side-splash resulting in me either not using the side-splash or paying to have the new drywall cut into in order to move the electrical up. On February 5th I sent Nicole a picture of the error and she said she "would be out ASAP." Later that day she emailed that she would be out March 9th. Upon sharing my concerns about the length of the side splash Nicole explained that it was customary to measure the side splash longer than needed and the construction people would cut or grind it to the correct size. I cannot imagine all contractors have the tools to do this. As far as the electrical outlet placement and the height of the side splash is concerned Nicole agreed it was not acceptable and offered cutting it to 1" in height. I told her that was not acceptable and that I wanted the electrical moved up. She agreed if it was her house that is what she would want done and said she would immediately get with their construction person. Not ours, theirs, since it was her mistake. I waited another three weeks and two days to be contacted by him, all the while reminding Nicole every week that we needed closure. On March 24th Eric from Granite Construction called. He said he would have someone out that afternoon and was going to email me a work order for my signature. I waited approximately 30 minutes but rather than the work order I received the name of an electrician and told that I would have to pay for the repair. In total frustration I contacted the owner/manager of McDaniels, Don Jessup. He said he agreed with some of my points (many are not mentioned here) but since we used our own contractors, McDaniel's is not accountable. (Their contractors wanted $16,332 for a small, typical bathroom.). He offered to refund the side splash and six vanity handles (that I paid $90 for but never ordered), but since then he has chosen not to answer my emails about how I need to go about the return, paperwork, etc. At this point I feel I have given McDaniel's every opportunity to make things right before posting this review. I am hoping to save others the unprofessionalism and lack of respect I received. As of April 6th (today) I have not received any communication from Nicole regarding whether the electrical problem has been resolved, asking me if I was pleased with how the bathroom turned out, or thanking me for my business. Nothing from Don Jessup either.

Started out ok Tom seemed knowledgeable with a reasonable estimate. He was asked to install rolled…read morevinyl, replace trim, prime and paint bathroom walls ceiling and trim. When he came to inspect for estimate he recommended luan over the floor. When it came time to actually install the vinyl it was clear that he did not review the manufacturer recommendation. He kept wanting to do a loose lay or perimeter only bond. The manufacturer was clear that it was a full spread glue down. I called and emailed the manufacturer to verify and shared the information with him including the full documentation of how to install the floor. He didn't want to use primer before the glue. He didn't make the proper relief cuts leaving the site with vinyl going up the side of the wall and tub. I did make the cuts after he left when I noticed it and pushed the glue out. After gluing down the floor he said it might bubble up due to the vdc from the underlying vinyl floors I commented maybe that's why they recommended a primer. He also recommended putting the luan over the other two vinyl floors when he could have recommended complete tear out of the underlying floors. We discussed putting more sub floor under the bathtub as there was a gap that wasn't previously shimmed. He later spray foamed under/inside the tub without asking me first. I advised him that my previous tub cracked due to the use of spray foam and that I hope this spray foam doesn't do the same. When it came to the finish paint there were a number of run, paint on the window, light, bathtub, and cabinets that were not intended to be painted. I cleaned some of it up with rubbing alcohol. At this point I was not pleased with the workmanship because it lacked craftsmanship. I know my 10 year old could do a better job painting. I advised Tom that I would find someone else to complete the trim and fix the other concerns I brought up. He was upset and let me know that he felt he wasn't done with the job. I let him know that I don't want him back to the house. I give 2 stars because maybe he would have done better but I really couldn't afford to have someone continue that I would have to constantly supervise and point out that paint shouldn't be left to run or that relief cuts should be made before glueing down vinyl not after the glue dries.
