We parked there for an event at Custom House Plaza last May on a Saturday and when we tried to leave the machine wasn't working and each person exiting had to wait 20 minutes for an "operator" from the phone at the exit and they would lift the gate for you to leave. Bring back the parking attendants!!! The new system that's automated has so many flaws! Vistors have MANY issues with the automated system which causes a backup to exit! Ever since they fired the parking attendants there's always a line sometimes taking OVER 30 minutes to leave the parking garage. This is not sustainable or okay. read more

I have a monthly parking pass here ONLY because I have to have one for work daily or I would never park here. This garage is owned and ran by the Monterey Bay Aquarium so you would think they would keep up with it better but it is ran terribly. There is one exit to get out and 1/3 of the time the gate doesn't work so the line backs up and you'll end up waiting forever in a line of cars to leave and there are no other exits. The customer service is very slow and takes forever if you have to push the call button when the gate is broken. Its extremely frustrating to deal with so often. When the Aquarium bought the garage out a year ago, they got rid of all the on duty staff in the ticket booth to save money. It was unfortunate because the guys that worked there were very friendly and nice and ended up losing their jobs. The garage installed self pay stations for people paying hourly who dont have monthly parking passes and I have been told by many people that they are confusing to use and not much signage to explain how to pay. If you are a tourist I would highly advise against parking at this garage, save your time and money and park at the parking lot on the other side of Fisherman's Wharf at 201 Washington St. I work in the tourism industry (hence why I have to park here because its the closest place to park for work and there is rarely street parking), so I always tell tourists to go to the parking lot instead. It will save you a headache. Also, on a side note, the garage is designed horribly and I know many people who have accidently sideswiped the medians/half walls in the garage because of the tight spaces and bad disguise of the exit ramps. If you do decide to park here, be careful driving through it, give yourself PLENTY of extra time because you'll need it to park and pay and consider yourself lucky if you dont have to wait in line when exiting. read more

Of course no physical person just a person who couldn't understand me when I was spelling my name for them. A horrible ending to a lovely day. We decided to go to the Jade festival and have lunch on the wharf. All of it was perfect. We had parked where we always have, but were confused we couldn't get a ticket for our car, but figured attendant was on break. An hour later we joined a short line, that grew, as people tried to get out. The perfect day went to hell when I could not get the arm to let us out. Probably got charged 10 times sticking my card in a machine monitored by unhelpful voices! Never again. Stupid idea Monterey. It's 3:30 on a Saturday and a major event just let out nearby - The annual Merienda - and there was no gate attendant l. People couldn't leave and had to call to emergency number who said they couldn't control the gate bar. What a cluster. I hate this lot. read more

Beware of this parking facility. We had our car parked here for just 3 hours on Saturday and already had it seriously dented. Some a-hole had jumped the fence of the facility, using hood of our car as the landing pod. Naturally the clerk was sorry, but above all busy to tell us that it was not their responsibility what local kids do. Now maybe this was just a freak accident, but my gut tells me otherwise. So please, if you have suffered the same, post a one star review and get in contact with me. If there are already series of these incidents, the responsibility aspect definitely changes. What kind of public parking garage in a world renown tourist destination doesn't accept American Express credit cards? I went to an event at the Custom House Plaza and parked there. I'm a local. Had no cash and no other credit cards. When I went to get my car, the attendant told me to go to an ATM. Doesn't work with this credit card! Had to uber home to get a different card and back 45 min total to get the car out. Bad service won't park there again. read more

Horrible place to park. I bought a month pass on tge 25th with expectation it would last 30 days. Apparently there month runs from the 4th and restarts no matter when you boght your pass. So about a week after i bought my month pass, I HAD TO BUY ANOTHER. No where is this stated on the receipt or a sign or anything. And the parking attendant definetly didnt say anything. read more

We parked here several years ago to go to Benihana and I recall some kind of very offensive nonsense as well, but it was my mom's 90th and we her and siblings in from out of town so I blew it off, but was more than a little miffed. I have some business in the area coming up, right next to it actually, but think I should park in the nearby Wharf Parking Lot, presumably 1.50$/hr from what I found as recent information even though it shows to be a 6 min walk back to the offices directly adjacent to this structure where my destination is. However, to be fair to this parking facility, and in case I need to visit more often, I think I should step across the street as long as I'm out there and investigate whether there have been any improvements over the unseemly practices reported here since they're all from around a certain* period last year - and I'll try to report back so others know the score. *I'd like to reiterate that my experience was several years back and, like the reviews here, left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Doesn't even deserve a one. Spaces too small, we drove through and only two spaces left that were too tight for us to park in. Young man at register argued with us and wouldn't even lift gate so we could leave. We asked how much we owed him and he wouldn't reply. Called my friend an f-ing white bitch. Another man was in booth behind him. We were terrified and he finally lifted gate because cars were backing up. We were so upset that we left and were too scared to attend Christmas in the Adobes. Look, you can park here if you have to. As other reviewers have echoed, it is business that bases much of its income on shady business practices. Just know that you need to get a parking ticket from the attendant or they will charge you the full day rate. The business is an obvious scam, but when you need parking you need parking. There is a tiny sign that says note your parking time and see the attendant on your way out. The way it's worded it suggests you have to see the attendant on the way out *when you are leaving* but not when you just arrive. read more

There's a teeny tiny sign in fine print at the entrance that says that you have to get a ticket from the attendant, claiming that the parking ticket dispenser is broken. Parking attendant says the dispenser had never worked since he was a kid. No other sign in the lot reminding you to pick up a parking ticket. BEWARE!!! I believe the attendant taking our money pocketed extra money or running a scam. We were only there in lot for just barely over an hour and was charged for 2 1/2 hours. The rates are clearly posted at the entrance and exit. Garage was well lit and clean. Besides, You can't find parking these days, that still cost $12.00 a day. Totally what one can expect from a parking garage and some (5 min walk to The Wharf and 10 to downtown). read more
