This little gem is a treasure! It's small and quaint and wonderful! We were making a Southwest road trip and wanted to visit Carlsbad Caverns. Everything in Carlsbad was either sold out or terrible expensive. That turned out to be a very good thing because we found Heritage Inn. The lady who owns the place is super friendly. Our room was very clean and very quiet. They have a small deck where you can sit outside, but it was extremely hot the night we were there, so we didn't try it out. The free continental breakfast in the morning is wonderful. She had FRESH strawberries and blueberries! We would definitely stay here again. Be sure to make a reservation -- they sell out!! read more

We found Heritage Inn while traveling from Santa Fe to TX. The innkeepers are super friendly and hospitable. The room was clean, comfortable and the location was convenient. Excellent water pressure and temperature. As Ryan and Neve will tell you, they want you to feel at home, and we certainly did. Really cute little town, lots of information and history available. Ample parking and a really nice upper deck patio with shaded seating and a porch swing. Complimentary breakfast, coffee and tea, and juice. The tea/coffee station also had hot cocoa, microwave popcorn and night time tea options if you wanted a movie snack. Overall, we highly recommend staying here. read more

Stayed here two weeks. Only cleaned once. Even after asking to have roomed cleaned multiple times. Trash cans litter the hallways because they're all full. For the amount I pay, fresh sheets and towels shouldn't be a problem. read more

We found this place by accident after looking in the area near Carlsbad Caverns for a hotel. Not finding any places with good reviews we stumbled on this bnb. We were hesitant at first since we are used to chain hotels and were traveling with 3 kids. I called and spoke to the innkeeper and he reassured me kids would be ok and suggested the room with the king bed as it also had a pull out sofa or 2 adjacent rooms with a common hallway with its own door. We ended up with the 2 rooms. This option was perfect. We were greeted by the innkeeper in the lobby where he handed me a batch of state cookies, keys and went for a tour of the place. There was a common area in the lobby with tables, complimentary tea and cocoa. There was also a fridge in the hallway with drinks and snacks for a small fee on the honor system. And by small I mean about $1 for candy bars and such. I've paid much more at Holiday Inn. Downstairs had a larger room with a dining table, computer, tv and chairs available to guests. We normally don't use these rooms when we stay at hotels but after picking up some burgers late one night we made good use of it. The place has a nice historical appeal. One of my biggest pet peeve is cleanliness. I know that housekeepers are in a hurry and will miss things from time to time. This was not the issue here... at all. The place was very well kept and spotless. If we are ever in the area again we will make it a point to stay there. We have stayed at our share of cabins, hotels, vacation homes and such and would tend to lean towards major hotel chains but this place has changed our views on BnBs. The wife was hesitant because she always had the impression that bed and breakfasts were like staying at someone's home. This wasn't the case here. Although I think that someone does live in the building we definitely had privacy. This may sound like an ad but I believe that good businesses should be recognized. Give this place a try. (yeah... Tripadvisor came through on this one. We were going to the caverns and the overriding message on tripadvisor was to skip Carlsbad with its average hotels at high prices. So I looked up the road to the next town and found this place instead. For less than what they were charging in Carlsbad we got a huge room, a hotel with tons of charm, and a staff that's attentive and wonderful. Breakfast was simple but served our purposes for two mornings. If you find yourself anywhere in southeast New Mexico this is the clever option for lodging. They also give you free biscochos! Wish I had a coupla bags right now. :( read more

We stayed one night at Heritage Inn during July 2008. The room was clean and quiet, it was affordable, the staff was friendly, and breakfast was not fancy but better than sitting around a large B&B table and being forced to make small talk while the morning slips away. We walked to the Wellhead for dinner and enjoyed the public art downtown. We would certainly stay here again. read more

Immaculately clean, friendly, and very comfortable inn. The staff is accommodating and helpful. Not much to do in Artesia, but we wanted a nice place to stay to visit Carlsbad Caverns (about an hour away). The Heritage is small (11 rooms), and the rooms are small and close together. The breakfast is minimal (packaged pastries, ham & cheese, boiled eggs, cereal) but coffee is good and fresh. There is a notebook at the desk with menus from local restaurants (several pretty good for this area). Nice touches: homey bedding..not hotel-grade, power strips for charging electronics, well-stocked drinks in refrigerator in common area with honor-system payment. If you want Internet, ask for a room close to the router. Rooms in the front are a bit noisy with street traffic, especially motorcycles. Biggest plus: friendly and helpful staff who will work hard to make your stay comfortable. read more

I have stayed at this hotel when visiting a significant other at FLETC. For starters the people who run and work at this hotel are very nice. They definitely think of all the little things. The hotel itself is small, there are only 11 rooms. The parking is on the street, but since it is small I never had any issue. My favorite thing about this hotel was the size of the room. It is by far one of the biggest hotel rooms I have stayed in. The rooms also had real character to them. The knocking of one star was for the breakfast. It is minimal at most. Coffee or toast is really the extent of it. I wouldn't mind if there was somewhere to get breakfast late morning/early afternoon in that town. Overall, I enjoy this hotel and I would and will be returning. read more

Where to start? How about where you start your stay - at the front door with a secure entrance and speaker system which a friendly voice will direct you up from. The steep staircase reminds me of quaint hostels in Europe or Asia. Check in is a breeze and your friendly host will welcome you warmly. The common area has seating and complimentary coffee, tea, cocoa, and popcorn. Room 3 is large with tall ceilings and hardwood floors. You'll be warned about the noise of birds outside your window but I didn't even notice them inside. The bathroom is nice and clean and filled with supplies. The bed is exceptionally comfy. There is a large tv and a mini fridge and wifi. The continental breakfast has a slew of options, all great even on the go. If you are looking for a place to stay near Roswell or Carlsbad this is your best bet for a home away from home in a cute Main Street district. read more

My girlfriend suggested this place and I'm glad she did. This is a really nice little place to stay if you want to be near several locations like Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands National Monument, Roswell and Guadalupe National Park. The owners Ryan and Neva were very nice and accommodating. The place was very clean and it looks really nice inside. It was also very quiet at night which I like. (BTW the shower heads were amazing!) The free breakfast was just icing on the cake. Honestly I cannot think of anything negative about this place. I guess if I had one suggestion it would be to maybe offer a little more hot items for the breakfast like Scrambled Eggs, Sausage and Pancakes/Waffles. But hey its free and what they had was still good so I can't really complain. I plan on visiting White Sands someday and I know this will be the place to stay when I do! This was by far my favorite place so far. Clean, classy, quaint. Breakfast was so fresh and plenty to chose from. Wish I was staying longer! Keep up the great work...it shows you care. My boyfriend and I were looking to stay at a NICE place near Carlsbad Caverns, but as you may have already noticed, Carlsbad is full of sub-par yet overpriced hotels/motels/inns. We decided to stay at Heritage Inn in Artesia because of its great reviews on TripAdvisor, and we were not disappointed! The beds were SO comfortable and I was obsessed with the amazingly soft sheets - I even asked the owners where I could purchase some of my own! Every staff member we met was friendly, helpful, and gave great advice for touring the area. They take great pride in the details (the even folded the toilet paper!) and they offered stevia sweetener (which is a HUGE plus in my book!) We had constant access to snacks, drinks, tea, water, coffee, hot cocoa - you name it! It felt like staying at a family member's house. We couldn't have been happier with our experience!! read more

We were put up here on a recent trip to Artesia, NM and I am glad that we were. The owner operators were very inviting and had quite the spread for breakfast every morning. They are also very knowledgeable about the local happenings, like Roswell places, for example. It's in an old historic building right on a main street that makes most things within walking distance. My company offers their employees a choice of 3 hotels whenever they go to Artesia and Heritage Inn is one of them. I am glad I made the choice to stay at the Inn because my stay was nothing short of wonderful. Chose the Heritage Inn based on the rave Yelp reviews. It is very quaint and old-style, the staff was very friendly, the room was quite small but very comfortable. Breakfast was quite varied. It felt very secure. In fact, the only detraction for us was the price. $133 for the two of us was more than I expected, given that the Heritage came up when I was searching Yelp for "cheap motels"..... But can't fault the hotel for that! And the towels were almost worth it in themselves - thick and fluffy. Overall, a very nice place to stay. I just worry that the good reviews are causing the owners to increase their rates, thus detracting from the excellence of the deal. But, hey, that's how capitalism works, I guess. read more

If you're going to Carlbad Caverns, skip the town of Carlsbad and drive the few extra miles to Artesia, it is well worth te extra drive. The rooms were quiet and clean and the innkeeper helpful, accomadating, and pleasant. The breakfast was continental and a good start to the morning. The town has a nice self guided walking tour with nice scuptures depicting the town's history. The is a resturant across the street, La Fonda, that was tasty and very reasonable. After reading the glowing reviews of this hotel on Yelp and on TripAdvisor my husband and I decided to book the King Suite which costs the most $ in the hotel, but hey, you're on vacation right? However, we did not expect that the "King Suite" was actually a windowless room-a furnished windowless room, but a room without any window whatsoever. It reminded me of a storeroom that I have at home except with a bathroom and kitchen area and sink. The listing on TripAdvisor states the following: " Our king suite is downstairs ...." It does not state that it is a windowless room, much like a furnished closet (or basement room), with no natural light or air circulation. After driving from 3.5 hours from Santa Fe down to Artesia, we were very tired and very surprised at the "windowless" King Suite. We had some difficulty booking another room elsewhere but ultimately we were able to book at the beautiful Best Western down the road (which had windows). The clerk at the Heritage Inn offered to put us up in another room which was very tiny, had only a small bed (a full size) and stunk like old wet moldy carpeting. We declined the offer. As a courtesy I recommended to the clerk that the Owner clearly and noticeably note on their website that the King Suite has no windows so that someone who books 6 months prior and shows up after a 3.5 hour drive is not unpleasantly surprised. The Owner refunded the deposit/never charged my card, but the Owner also never contacted us. At the time of my booking the hotel website did not list that the King Suite had no windows. I would NOT recommend this hotel read more

Was in town to go see the Caverns in Carlsbad- was very glad we chose to stay in Artesia- the room was very nice, very clean, not super spacious but quite adequate for two. My wife and I stayed here the weekend of my graduation from FLETC. We absolutely loved the room...so much different than staying in a Best Western. The innkeeper Sue was wonderful. Heritage Inn knows what customer service is! The staff were very friendly even when we arrived at 11pm to check in! They always have complimentary coffee, popcorn, hot chocolate, tea etc. available in the common room, which they offered us as we checked in. They also gave us each a bag of the state cookie, called Biscochos, that were quite tasty! The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and have all the nice little amenities one could need. The beds and sheets were amazingly comfortable!! Not the typical scratchy sheets at many hotels. Some reviews mentioned the breakfasts as minimal but perhaps that has changed because there was a slew of options including steel cut oats with all the trimmings, make-your-own hot breakfast sandwiches with a grill panini maker, pastries, bagels, orange juice, cereals, yogurts, coffee, fruits etc. This historic hotel is a great value for your money and I would definitely stay here again. read more
