Firstly, the service was WONDERFUL by our server -- she is a 5-star server (6/09/26). However, I just cannot give the rest of the experience justification (food-wise) even 3 stars. It was my husband's birthday on 6/09 and I wanted nothing more for on his birthday than for him to be able to visit Carlsbad Caverns and take him to Trinity for his birthday dinner. (My sister and I had visited Carlsbad in 2009/2010 and our meals (steak dinners) were absolutely 5-star with service to match.) I noticed that the restaurant had changed owners, though, in 2012, according to what I had read. The food, his pork chop, and my filet mignon dinners were so very mediocre. The loaded potato was disgusting looking in appearance and I just swiped my fork over a gruesome amount of cheese and bacon bits plopped on top of it. The filet mignon and pork chop were so uneventful. Vegetables were mediocre. We didn't even order an appetizer nor alcoholic beverages, but we wanted to give the server about a 22% tip because she was so nice and attentive, and our bill came to $90 + change. We would've and have had much better meals at Chili's!!! (The wooden 'school-like' chairs were not too comfortable, to boot.) So sad to see how drastically this place had changed....major disappointment (especially on one's birthday). read more

I was visiting Carlsbad and didn't stay at the hotel but I'm glad I was able to eat at their restaurant! We were greeted instantly when we walked in. Our server was so friendly and attentive. All the appetizers tasted great and I was impressed with the goat cheese. I noticed that almost every table ordered it! We were in town just for one night and stopped for dinner at Trinity Hotel and Restaurant. What a great find!! Our meals were outstanding (filet for husband, I had halibut) but even better were ALL of the servers/ employees!!! Wonderful service! We had a table of 12, and the waitress did an outstanding job serving us. The food came out quickly, all orders were correct and our cups were never empty. As a past waitress, I know how hats that can be when you have other tables as well! Food was delicious, I ordered the enchiladas and they were amazing. We are ate at Trinity twice during our recent trip to Carlsbad. After driving down from Albuquerque and checking into the attached Trinity Hotel, we opted to have dinner because it was one of the restaurants still open at 8 PM. We were pleasantly surprised by delicious New Mexico wines that we'd never tried before followed up by very tasty pasta dishes. The pasta was cooked al dente and the sauce were very flavorful. The portions were also very reasonable and filling without being huge. Our dishes came with a garlic bread knot, which was also extremely delicious. Our server was really nice about offering recommendations when one of the wines we were thinking of getting was not available. He also gave us some nice pointers about things to do around town, and at Carlsbad Caverns, which is one of the main reasons we were in town. On our last day in town, we opted for breakfast here because there are some interesting options on the menu and it was very convenient to getting us out of town relatively early. The Eggs Benedict was so good; it was better than many Eggs Benedict I've had in the Chicago area. I think they were using a Wolferman English muffin and freshly carved ham. The iced coffee was very good with properly balanced oat milk and flavored syrup. Again, our server was very attentive and helpful. The building has had many incarnations, including a bank and sheriff's office, so it has a lot of character and charm. Definitely dine here if you are in the Carlsbad area! read more

In town for a few nights visiting the national parks and we chose the Trinity for my husband's birthday dinner. Great place, very friendly staff. To be clear- this is for the hotel and the restaurant. If you're headed to Carlsbad Caverns, this seems to be the place to stay. The rooms are very nice (and the bathrooms are amazing). We had both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant due to the sheer convenience of it all. Would recommend The Trinity Hotel. The bed was very comfortable, our room was very clean we loved the beautiful original wood frames of the arched windows and door frames with transom. I wrote this review initially mid March on Google. The owner decided to hide my review from his page so I'm posting it here. Please see below. You can't make your establishment seem better by hiding most all the bad reviews. This restaurant was extremely disappointing. Look past the high review average and deeper into the negative ones. There definitely is truth to them. You should be concerned when a place has this amount of mixed reviews and last of consistency. I wish I was more aware before I decided to bring my friends here. The speed of service here is so slow I can not even begin to describe it. I came here on a Sunday night at 7:00 and the wait for a table of 4 was 30 minutes which seems average. Our table service however took an hour for food to arrive. And they did not offer us complementary bread rolls until we had asked 30minutes in. The waiter had stated that she was planning to bring it out with our entrees (which would end being 1 hour in). However a table which was seated near us was offered the bread rolls right after ordering. I was very disappointed by the lack of updates throughout this hour of wait time. There was no "hang on I'll check on the food for you" or "The chef is a little backed up, it will be a bit" or even and courtesy table visit. We were just left in the dark with no gauge of the state of our wait time/ food. The food was not worth waiting anywhere near that long for. I ordered the Pork chop sautéed with mushrooms, But my mushrooms were barely cooked and cold. Vegetables were sub par as they are diced and boiled with a little salt. Nothing fancy. My partner ordered the Pic Pachio with shrimp and it was the smallest pasta I have been seen served at a restaurant. Imagine a small kids meal pasta on a small plate but with 3 shrimp. That meal can not even fill you if you had eaten a full basket of bread rolls. Her meal was very bland and the $7 shrimp add-on was chewy to say the least. After our food finally came, we realized that my friend's salad never arrived. We asked our server Kathryn about it and she was very rude and short about it stating that, "We could see that she was busy when we ordered and that is why" and did not apologize. TLDR; If you want waste spend over 2 hours in one establishment, you are better off waiting at your local DMV. I can think of 100 better uses for $140+ than to spend it here. "Fine Dining" restaurants are much more than just pricier food. Find another restaurant, You will definitely enjoy it better. On a side note, a good sign an establishment does not care about their restaurant is when they do not bother to keep their menu prices up to date. This is an old bank building and that in itself is neat and this may be the nicest hotel in Carlsbad. You enter in the corner which serves as the lobby and restaurant entrance. You enter the rooms on street level and walk 2 flights up. Keep in mind should you have loads of luggage. Place is clean and well furnished with a great bathroom and hot water! Gotta love that. They use a lot of fragrance which bothered my husband. We ate in their restaurant along with everyone else in Carlsbad. To my surprise it was not bad. Not the best I ever had, but I am guessing the best in Carlsbad and pretty good. It is the small details where they loose points. Paper napkins, pre made salads, plastic containers for parm and pepper flakes. The bartender was hustling, but the cocktails were average at best. Ate dinner there night before visiting Carlsbad Caverns. Friendly welcome from the owner, who showed us to a table at this Italian-themed restaurant. Nice ambiance, quite a historical place. Friendly waitress Cat took care of our every need, and I noticed the other tables being equally taken care of, clearly a well managed staff. We had clam linguine (white sauce), Mastachana (red sauce), Caesar salad, and a bottle of New Mexican Sangiovese (quite enjoyable bottle at only $35). We splurged for a chocolate Bundt and DeCaf before heading back to our hotel. Definitely a good choice for dining in Carlsbad, and we bought another bottle of the Sangiovese to bring back home to Austin. read more

Room Pro: Stayed in room 1, decor and 15' whatever ceilings with floor to ceiling red drapes was Awesome. It cast a red glow throughout. We nicknamed it the red room. Would stay again just because the Misses was feeling it in the atmosphere. Room Con: Air conditioning was almost non-existent first week of June for Cavernfest, before it even got real hot and the ceiling fan was inoperable so that was a let down. Was a bit uncomfortable at first. We were walking around quite a bit for the fest so by the time we got back we were buzzed and didn't notice too much until the next morning. Hopefully they've fixed this by now.... Shower Pro: Huge, nice bath. Shower Con: so big I wish it had a built in tile bench. Water pressure lacks for my taste. Almost needs more nozzles for water spray too, since it's so big. Kind of a waste of space. Makes the bathroom tight. All in all, I would rate the hotel a four even with the AC issue just because the nostalgia and eclectics of the building and repurposing. Kudos for that. Had the ceiling fan at least worked I would have probably given it five stars or had it been cheaper. Now for the restaurant, this review is going to be for the body of visits as I have eaten here five times over the last 6 months. Pros for the food: not a lot in my experience. The coffee is on point!! They had nice pastries complimentary if you stay in a room. Some of the problem is I kinda remember liking something back in June, maybe soup, but nothing is memorable. Cons: I've mostly had breakfast there, but and that was just OK. It was good. I just would expect more from the caliber that this restaurant is trying to be. Anyway, I had a burger the other day and this is actually what made me leave a review finally for this restaurant because again for the caliber of restaurant this could be and is trying to be, that was literally (no exaggeration) the worst burger patty I may have ever had. But the further I got into it the worse it got but again I was starving as it was noon, and I had not eaten at all that day. Trinity, if you read this, please fix this or have your servers ask what temp the patron wants. I'll probably be fair to this restaurant and go one more time in a few months, maybe around Christmas time and try their steak or the pork chop or something on the dinner menu that's not breakfast or a lunch item or pasta and update this review, but as of right now, the restaurant definitely just gets a three for being average. This place is worth the 8 Hour Dr. from San Antonio. Even if it's not along your way, you should make a point to stop in at The Trinity if you are anywhere close to this place. Aside from the beautifully restored historic building and history, the food and ambience is top-notch. We always make a point to either stay the night in the hotel, or have a delicious meal in the restaurant. Rooms 206 has a very unique vault in which you can sit and watch TV on the couch or pull out the couch for extra sleeping space. Either way, it's super cool. This room also has a huge jacuzzi tub in the middle of the room. Another of our favorites is room 202. It used to be Pat Garrett's office. He's the guy that killed Billy The Kid. If you stay in the hotel, you get a choice of continental (but homemade deliciousness) items like the amazing cinnamon roll and chocolate muffin that tastes more like a chocolate cake. I got the build a bowl with two eggs over easy, over sausage with mushrooms, smothered in perfectly spicy green chili & cheese. See the picture and drool. It was amazing! read more

Had the opportunity of stopping in right when the restaurant opened for dinner. We had just traveled four hours on the road so this being our first stop was perfect. The bar has so much charm along with the entire hotel. So much history so long as you have the right person to tell it. Dustin was our bartender/waiter. He was great! I saw this on YELP and thought we would check out the old building, quaint hotel and eat at the restaurant. As we were walking in the main lobby I observed a Red YELP sticker on the window. I was happy to see it and was excited to go in. The old building and hotel were cool to look at. We went in to the adjoining restaurant and was seated for lunch after going to a great church service at the Oasis Church. We shared a dinner salad and both of us ordered the Rancher. It was a 6oz. Ribeye with onion rings. The food was good but the server told us after receiving our salad that they are closing and could we order. Sorry, not like being rushed when I'm eating. They should of told us prior to sitting down that they were preparing to close and we would of just found somewhere else to eat lunch but they didn't. I would of gave higher stars because of the great atmosphere and cleanliness but the food rush thing bottomed this place out. Loved our dinner here at Trinity! The service was fantastic and the food was great! I had the white Zinfandel to drink and it was the ideal Monday night in May kind of wine. For dinner I ordered the Caesar salad with grilled chicken which was fantastic! The chicken was cut and grilled into bite size pieces which was nice because I didn't have to mess around with cutting chicken on top of a salad! My boyfriend got the chicken piccata and he loved his choice! The rolls were also garlicky warm perfection! We had a chocolate cake for dessert and it was the cherry on top of a nice meal! 10/10 would recommend in Carlsbad! UPDATE!!! BREAKFAST REVIEW!! We came back this morning for breakfast and wow. Just wow. SO DELICIOUS! I ordered an iced chai tea and it was awesome. My boyfriend got a hot chai tea and I'm genuinely not kidding when I say this was the best hot chai tea I have ever tasted. We had a great evening here. They are always busy but we were able to get reservations at 6 PM. Unfortunately when we got there they were running a little bit late and the owner said it was probably about 15 minutes so he sat us at the bar to get a drink which was great. He came to get us after our beers I took it to a great table on the second floor. We thought everyone we dealt with was very friendly and very attentive to our needs. We started with the goat cheese appetizer which our waitress suggested. It was excellent. Next we had a ribeye and the halibut. The waitress had also recommended the halibut and she was right again - very good. The ribeye is a smaller one, 10 ounces, but was cooked to perfection and had a great flavor. Stayed hear for 2 nights. Ate at the restaurant both nights and both mornings. There's no reason to go anywhere else. Their food is 10/10 amazing. Ribeye was so juicy, surf and turf was huge, chicken parmigiana is amazing. Brownie cheesecake was delicious as were the scones and cinnamon roll we got free each morning for being a hotel guest. You also get to taste their wines as a guest. They have so many different, good wines. We bought 3 bottles. I can't emphasize how amazing the food was. They even boxed up a ton of extra garlic knots for us when I mentioned they were the best I'd ever had! The staff were so friendly and attentive. We only had a short time before we had to leave and be at the caverns for our reservation and last tour time. The restaurant was still open and they made sure we had our food in time to eat and leave. The cinnamon roll and eggs Benedict were both amazing. I recommend both. Pasties and coffee are free for hotel guests. I don't mean gross donuts and coffee like the big chain hotels that serve continental breakfast. I mean the cinnamon roll you see in the picture, muffins, scones, and any of the coffees. We all had chai lattes, which were also great. The building is old with lots of history attached. The rooms were clean and spacious with comfortable beds and large showers. I always think hotel rooms should have ceiling fans as I like to have moving air when I sleep. Our room did! And I was ever so thankful. If I find myself back in Carlsbad I will stay here again.
