I'm so disappointed in this campsite. I don't know how it's considered a KOA. Because KOA is our go to place.. The pool was green, literally The parking spot was just gravel The bathroom was so disgusting that we just chose not to take a shower here . In the middle of two towns, you're either 20 minutes from One or 20 minutes from the other, literally in the middle of nowhere if you need any supplies Also, they don't have supplies at their little store. Anything that would be usable. . I actually would like a refund for this place . You need a Camp host , Or somebody. But when pulling into our spot. We shouldn't have to be blocked by a maintenance person filling up a hole. From where sewer or something had spilled . Not a pleasant experience at all. read more

If you are traveling with children, there are a lot of things for children to do including a large rec recenter, giant chess and checkers.

Well clean the two bathrooms you have. Black mold on top! Filthy . The bathroom s showers by check in we're not available because there was no hot water and I was told it would be three months anyways this was not fun. The two of the three bathrooms that were available the showers were disgusting. We just packed up and left. The actual pad to pull your RV on was fine except for the picnic table. Wood is so rotted and full of splinters cannot use it even if you put a tablecloth on it is so warped and old. It just needs to be replaced. I don't understand how they can claim to be number one in New Mexico, because theLas Cruces KOA is fantastic. read more

I did not recommend this KOA . The campground is between Carlsbad and another town. It is out in the middle of nowhere. There are no trees for shade the area seems too isolated . If you want to eat something besides what you cook in your RV, you have to drive about 10 miles into a town to find a restaurant. We were going to stop there, but looked around and decided it wasn't a good place to stay for couples or for a family. We drove into Carlsbad and found a nice RV park that was in area that we were able to go to restaurants and shop when ww wanted to. read more

Stayed here the end of January, I'm used to KOAs having lots of amenities. This one doesn't have much. The bath houses were disgusting and don't seem to have been cleaned at all. It was cold in the morning and there was no heat in them and they were just run down. I guess that describes the entire property just run down and in need of some capital. The staff was nice and the little eatery we had their pizza and it was tasty and hot and delivered to our site. If it wasn't for these I would have given one star. read more

Place is ok. Spots are all gravel but mostly level. Not much tree vegetation to block the constant WIND. Can't cook can't sit outside and enjoy it blows the the open landscape non stop. Since it's all gravel including roads it's a battle with the dust especially when cars go flying by at 20 mph. There's nice bathrooms in two locations. The one by the playground are all in one private bathroom/sheer. Nice showers as they aren't elbow bangers. A lot of things to do in the summer as there are lakes, bottomless pools, a big lake down the road. Of course there's Carlsbad Caverns, Roswell, sitting bull waterfall. Also nearby sling in the winter. Not sure where the closest store is, probably Carlsbad about 20 minutes away. read more

The RV sites are big, nice and level, but there are a lot of sticker bushes in the grass areas, watchout for the dogs and kiddos. Other than that, the place is real need of updates and maintenance. Although the bathrooms appear clean, the fixtures, sinks, floors are really old. Women's showers take forever and ever to get hot enough to shower. Lighting is out or broken near the bathrooms. The restaurant is closed and WiFi is marginal at best. Other than that, it's okay for a quick day or two stay. It just proves not all KOAs are the same or held to any minimum standards. read more

Be warned; the water is super hard. Nice campground. Everything is well maintained. The employees are friendly and helpful. That being said, the water is extremely hard. Driving into the campground there are some potholes that need to be filled. They collect water and it's like navigating a mine field trying to keep the RV from getting splashed and muddy. During our stay, a film started developing on our fixtures. This film covered everything, including our coffee maker, dishwasher, sinks, faucets, and ice maker. I tested the water with a total hardness test strip; the result was off the chart (see picture). This was after going through the water softener. The water softener was recharged approx one week before our stay at the campground. Depending on water hardness and amount of use, it usually lasts a month before needing to be recharged. The water is so hard here that it had to be recharged after a couple of days. After our stay, we had to drain and flush the fresh tank, recharge the water softener, replace all the water filters (in-line, whole house, and refrigerator filters) then clean everything that was touched by the water. Literally, everything touched by the water had a haze on it. A couple of days work, $100 for filters and we are getting back to normal. read more

We had a pleasant stay at Carlsbad KOA in New Mexico. Loved the large campsites, and the spaciousness of the property. Easy to maneuver the trailer. Only complaint I had would be regarding the unisex restrooms. All three of them were not very clean. The Men's restroom in the main building was closed for remodeling so I went to the smaller building several times during our stay. Each time those unisex restrooms were a mess. Perhaps it was bad timing. Anyways, overall it was a pleasant stay. Would stay here again if in the area. read more

If you have a motor home or an RV, this campground is a perfect place to stop on your journey. They even have little cabins if you don't have a camper! I can't comment on the cabins because I was lucky enough to stay in a motor home when we visited Carlsbad, NM. We pulled into a campsite with full hookups and a patio. The patio had a swing and a gas grill with iron patio table and four chairs. There was also a fire pit at our site. The amenities included a large playground for the kids with a slide. The activity center had large chess and checkers sets, cornhole and other games in a covered area. There's a cute little pond with a fountain for your morning meditation. Let's talk about the sparkling clean restrooms now! The women's restroom was very spacious and had lots of toilet stalls. The shower stalls were large and had a bench to set your bags on! That is a must in any shower stall!! They had large mirrors with a clean countertop for you to get ready. Plugs are included to use your blow dryer and things. Overall I really enjoyed this facility! Tour the Carlsbad caverns and then stay at KOA before continuing your journey! read more

They are the most proactive communicative campground I have ever stayed at. Be sure to give them your mobile number. They will text you if there are any pool closures due to weather. We got an explanation text about the air canons that went off next door, in the orchard, with the incoming thunderstorm, because apparently it helps to break up hail. They have a pool, a rec room, outdoor oversized chess and checkers, full hook up and pull through's. It has everything you want. It's located centrally in between Carlsbad Caverns, probably the reason you came here, and Roswell New Mexico. If you're into that alien BS. read more

This is a nice little campground near Carlsbad. I stayed three nights. Location wise, it is great. It's near several natural areas, state parks and about 40 minutes from Carlsbad National Park and an additional 30 or so to Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Additionally, it is around 20 minutes from both Carlsbad and Artesia. The grounds are well kept, and my cabin was clean and cozy. The showers and other facilities were great after a hard day hiking. The workers were extremely friendly and accommodating. There was a stray cat around who had been abandoned by the road that the campground took in, fed and took care of, which was nice. The cat simply hung around and wasn't a bother to any one. This was my first time in a KOA and it was a great one. I would recommend this location to any one and would stay again if I took another vacation to this area. read more

I'd like to say first that the staff was very friendly. And I would give them 5 stars but as for the facility itself I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Although a sign stated the bathrooms would be closed from 1-3 for cleaning they were untouched. sinks in the men's room didn't work, soap dispenser broken, paper towel dispenser broken. The woman's room was no better with the trash overflowing because it wasn't taken out. Toothpaste coated every sink and I'm sad to say that the smell of used woman's sanitary products overwhelmed you when you went inside the restroom from the pool. read more

This was a great place for a stop in Carlsbad, NM. Pulled in, checked in and a real nice guy escorted us to our site. The sites in this place are gravel and wide open. Not that many shade trees to speak of but it was clean and neat. But let me tell y'all about some dust!!! Very dry and dusty here. I'm not complaining, I am just setting the picture. The KOA was convenient to town, the lake and to the caverns. When coming to Carlsbad, think about staying here. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. At first it seemed cheesy, but my two teenagers and I enjoyed the place. It's about 55 minutes or so from Carlsbad Caverns National Park and still close to the city of Carlsbad. Stores like Walmart aren't too far away in case you need something. We camped in the covered tent area with water + electricity. It also has a grill AND a fire pit. There's a restaurant on site but I can't speak for it since we didn't try it. The little on site store has some odds & ends but expect to pay almost double for that convenience. We did use the washer & dryers and they were sufficient. The staff is friendly and there's always someone around - which helps keep things safer. If this type of experience is up your alley, I have no qualms recommending it. Even my kids say that they'd stay again. My only main suggestion would be to improve the Wi-Fi. That wasn't an issue for us. Verizon came in with a full strength LTE four bar signal here. Having said that, we had a great stay here. PS: Got to speak a bit with Megan the Colorado ski instructor in the white Prius with the Yakima cargo container. Hope to run into her again one day. read more

We stayed in KOAs from Arizona to Texas this trip. This was a disappointment. The men's bathroom was closed, and the boys were in the women's restroom. Will not be recommending this place. The uncleaned cabin was the most disappointing. Sticky mess on cabin chair, front porch, and trash not cleaned up. The staff treated us like we were an inconvenience. Such a contrast to all the other ones we stayed at where every staff member greeted us. Bruce even said my last name sounded like I made it up. If I could get my money back for this disappointing stay I would gladly accept. read more

There's only so much beauty and "niceness" you can hack out of the desert with limited water, and they succeeded. Wonderful amenities (pool, gaga ball, basketball, volleyball and more) restrooms were cleaner than some restaurants I've eaten at, the laundry worked well, utilities were good, except wifi, horrid wifi (which they warned upon checkin.) All in all a good place to spend the night or two, although it is an hour from the caverns. read more

I'm not normally a KOA type of gal, but sometimes depending on where I am in the country when I'm road-tripping, and what my cell reception looks like at the time, I go for one usually based solely on the fact that they're all known for free WiFi. We stopped by last minute when a major lighting storm was rolling in. Originally intending on tent camping, we made the smart choice based upon the weather to upgrade to a cabin. Before even looking at the cabin I was a tad taken a back by the price. Once I saw it I totally understood.... This wasn't a basic cabin like at most campgrounds I've stayed at! I believe they call them "deluxe". It had full electric, fridge, stove, microwave, full stall shower, bunk beds, sofa bed, fireplace, heat and AC, a porch with a swing and tv with dish cable. There were also dishes, flatware, Paper towels and dish towels as well. Sweet! It was super comfortable and it was nice to just come in, bring our linens, crank the air in the summer, watch Friends on tv, cook some food and just chill out. In the morning we made breakfast and coffee and swung on the porches. The kiddos rode the complimentary first come, first serve bikes also! The grounds were well maintained. We saw some cool cacti and even bunny rabbits! The sunsets here were beautiful too! There's a lounge with a huge couch and flatscreen open to all guests as well as a kitchen. There's even a fully stocked store with any last minute things you may have forgotten and souvenirs too. Lots of alien goods as it's located not far from Roswell and well, you know... Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They even opened back up a bit after hours for us as we arrived later on at night. We were also led directly to our cabin by an employee on a golf cart so we didn't have to search in the dark. He was very kind. I would suggest NOT tent camping here unless you really have to. The spaces were close together and near a bright, gravel road within the campground. Just not my style. If you don't have an RV I would definitely recommend splurging a bit on a cabin here. We really loved ours!! Also, while the name is Carlsbad, it's about 40 minutes to the National Park with the same name. For us is was perfectly situated mid point between White Sands and Carlsbad so it worked well. There's a small town about 20 minutes west with a movie theater, some hot food options and a gas station if you need. read more

This is an OK KOA. They have gravel dirt roads and gravel spaces with some limited shade. They have full hook ups and a nice check in gift store. They supposedly have a heated pool; however, it was down for the season when we arrived on October 19. The KOA is not exactly close to the town of Carlsbad being about 15 miles away. It's about 45 minutes to an hour away from the caverns. It's more or less bordering on oil and gas field that goes for miles and miles. We stayed for six nights and almost every morning and evening we would get the smell that comes from an oil and gas field - not our favorite. Also, plan on bringing your own Wi-Fi. We were never able able to get theirs to work. read more

We LOVE Carlsbad KOA! Second time here this year. Came last summer and stayed in tent village. This campground is like the Hilton for us. The AWESOME small/but cold and clean pool, laundry room, nice bathrooms with ample showers and mirrors and excellent welcoming service! It's clean too! They offer a meal menu of BBQ and such if you order by 7pm. I love driving up and seeing the beautiful colorful entryway and decor, gravel roads, welcome center. I recommend tent village for tent campers- you get a privacy wall, light, electricity and water for $40. A little outside of town but it's an easy drive to the caverns and quiet at night. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking to camp in the Carlsbad area. It's our favorite! read more

Staff was nice. Camp spots are large and easy to get in and out of. It is near a lake which is east to get to as well. Town is not to far away which have ok places to eat and some entertainment. Carlsbad caverns is about 45 minutes away and pretty cool to see. Only complaint is the pool was closed which they told us it would be open and the indoor kitchen and activities were also closed. They did offer us our money back but we went to the lake instead. It worked out. read more

If you plan a trip to Carlsbad Caverns, I recommend staying somewhere else. I mostly reserve a review for the best places, however felt compelled to inform folks of the negative experience we had here. It was disappointing for several reasons. Upon check in, we arrived 40 minutes early after spending 9 hours on the road. We inquired about an early check in, and were told that we'd have to wait until 2pm. No big deal. They still provided a key and let us know to wait until 2 for the cabin to be ready. We killed a little time and at about 150pm rolled up to the cabin and patiently waited for the cleaner to finish. At 2pm the person left the cabin, no wave, or friendly smile. Just went to their cart and pulled away. The next day we notice an "early check in" fee assessed to our credit card. Upon check out, we asked about it since it was odd we did not enter our cabin ahead of the reserved time. The explanation given was essentially "we were there and had access to the facility" (e.g entertainment room). We didn't use it, or any of the "ammenities" they offer. After questioning the hostess more, she explained that when we rolled up to the cabin, the cleaning lady felt we were "glaring at her". So...we were dumbfounded, as she didn't even make eye contact upon exit of the cabin. Essentially they retaliated and added a charge since we parked by the cabin to wait in our car 10 minutes before our scheduled check in. Shocking to us. I'll wrap this review by saying they are petty, inhospitable, the pool is slimy and rusty (and was unavailable for one of the days since it needed to be "shocked"), the "koi pond" is a puddle without fish, and their entertainment area is lackluster. We love KOAs, but do NOT recommend this one. Do better. read more

The cabin we rented for three nights was clean and had a well supplied kitchen. The recreation room was good for kids, BBQ was delicious and delivered to our door. Everthing at the KOA was great with a few exceptions. The only wifi available was at the main building. I'm not sure this qualifies as "free wifi" as advertised. Around 4 am, every morning, we were rudely awakened by a foul petrochemical smell. In the faint morning light all that was visible were the bright gas flares burning in every direction. The water seems ok to drink, but the smell is a bit sulphuric. Based on the smell in the air and the oil and gas fracking activity in the immediate area, I would not be surprised to find out the ground water supplying the KOA is being negatively affected. Pretty rough example of a KOA. When greeted at the desk the gentlemen was sure to tell us that they where busy and not to worry about WiFi as it would really "suck". He then proceeded to tell us that the showerhouse/bathroom was broke and no hot water so we couldn't use them. Same time a gentlemen staying comes in asking for some hot dog buns to purchase as was told we don't sell them....crazy that he couldn't sell him some bread from the restaurant they have or let the man know there is a Walmart just down the road. Just not very friendly or inviting like the average koa. It might be do to the size as it is a huge facility. Do not upgrade your site. The cheap sites are the same as the deluxe ones. Save a few bucks as they do t have swings and nicer amenities even though we paid for the better site. Not looking for nor do we want a response from the ownership. Just take this review as a learning experience and consider that many of us that rv across the country have a ton of friends that do the same thing. 1 good comment is like telling 2 people while 1 bad comment is like telling 100 read more

Facilities were decent. It was not the "KOA holiday" that I'm used to with the resort style amenities, but clean and easy. I am booked through two nights but I'm on the road a day early headed to a different RV park because my good dogs were not welcomed. One of the groundskeepers stopped us walking my Theodore and told us that our dog was not welcomed because he was a pitbull. He then made an off comment about us saying "we have small dogs" at check in - which was never the case and getting the manager. The manager's husband was quite nice and said we could stay (petting Theo and overlooking the rule), but we don't feel comfortable leaving our dogs in our camper while out for a hike if they are not welcomed. This is so unfortunate. Ask if my dog has bitten anyone. Ask him to leave if you see that he is, in ANY way, a problem. I have good dogs and cannot support a place that judges good dogs blindly. read more

This is the nicest KOA campground we've ever stayed at - not as close to Carlsbad as we liked, but it was just a 15 minute drive to town. The campsites were wider than most, which was nice and more private. The pool was terrific, and you could see the maintenance staff going from one job to the next around the park.
