As it was the last time that I ever got to walk my dog. He was always a very happy dog. And lake forest beach brought us both so much joy, peace, tranquility and serenity. He marked it as his many times! It was and forever will be our happy place. We shared many peaceful moments at lake forest beach. Lake Forest Beach just won't be the same without my beloved dog:(

The Donner Pass Railroad Tunnel Hike was one of the reasons for our trip to the area. My boyfriend…read morehad always wanted to check out the Donner Petroglyphs, and I stumbled across the rail tunnels when looking for things to do while in the area. We parked at the Donner Ski Summit - if you are looking to check out this hike, that is the best place to park and access the start of the tunnels. I truly enjoyed this hike, but was ill prepared. I was fully committed once we were in the tunnels & I should have went back to the car and swapped my "barefoot" style shoes for my hiking boots. The large chunk gravel path killed my feet with the thin soles of the shoes I wore. We hiked through about 5-6 tunnels before heading back. We did a total of 6 miles in and back. There were alot of beautiful street art within the tunnels, we found 19 cave ghosts along the trail as well as some other reoccurring variations of different items over the course of the trail. I would like to eventually take the trail past the last tunnel and to the next set of tunnels some day. This is a trail we would do again next time we are in the area. Though the weather was nice, we both wore hooded sweatshirts as the are in the tunnels got quite chilly. If you plan on checking these trails out, take well charged flashlights or head lights with extra batteries. The tunnels can be PITCH Black when you are in the heart of them. Overall this was a really cool thing to see and I would love to do it again with the correct shoes!

And as it was a railroad, it's level and easy, and as it's in the tunnels, you're mostly protected from the weather. Bring good trail walking shoes and a flashlight. Tahoe baby! This…read moreshould be on your radar truly! The best of all things to get away from Vegas. Do you need to think and actually get away! Let's get some rest and down time . We are going to Tahoe. The drive is half the fun! The "actually," real trees. As we drove the trees were along all sides of us. Then we make it to the best of it all the water. The water is so clear! Wow sit back and just relax! It's the best of all things here in Vegas !

The walk down itself is scenic and relaxing. On the way back up, its a little strenuous but not too bad for able bodied people. There's a lot of space by the beach and a doc. The water is crystal clear and you can spot a lot of wildlife. The Vikingsholm castle was beautiful and it was a lot of fun getting to know all about it! To buy tickets for it is a short walk past it. It's a small space in terms of what you see so tickets are a little expensive but definitely a fun place to look at in Tahoe !

The first part of the trail was gravel, so it can be a little hard to walk. It took me 30 minutes to get to the bottom. Then, it was paved road. The lake was beautiful, but it wasn't quite green...maybe too early. I continued into the right side to the Eagle Falls Trail; about 12 minutes to get to the bridge to see the waterfall. I kept going another 14 minutes for the upper falls. The gals were beautiful! Once I reached the upper portion of the falls, I had to go back to the Vikingsholm Trail and go back up to the parking lot. That part was strenuous and exhausting. It was a real workout but so worth it.

Arrived on a Saturday in January- easy to grab a parking spot and barely anyone walking along the…read morebeach. The stones kind of remind me of Washington State beaches that are rocky but it looked like further into the water was sandy. The covered picnic table area was nice and there were bear proof garbage cans. Some informative signs were interesting to read but the lake being smooth as glass was the most impressive. That water was glacially cold!!! Bathrooms were closed for the season. It was a nice little stop on our adventure into North Lake Tahoe. Would be interesting to come back during summer to see the lake in all of its glory- the cloud inversion made for a very muted color palette. It was a peaceful visit.

During the winter, I'd say it is medium on traffic / moderately popular. It is a very enjoyable spot to me. And I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to enjoy a walk by the lake and enjoy the sunset. It is conveniently located in Tahoe vista, on N shore blvd @ the 267 interchange.

We've done the Thunderbird Lodge tour a few times now and it is always an amazing experience…read more The stories vary by the guides, but we always learn something new (this most recent time we learned about the Disney & Hemingway connection) and everyone we've brought with us, has been amazed this treasure exists. It's SO beautiful and such a cool experience! The tour begins (and ends) at the Lake Tahoe Visitor Center in Incline Village. On the bus ride to the Thunderbird Lodge, a recording plays explaining some of the history. Then you're met at the lodge and get more history, stories and a tour, which includes the Lodge, the tunnels, the boat house and grounds. We've done the tour twice this summer, at the end of July and again last Friday (Sept 12), with different visiting family members. Everyone was seriously impressed, especially as many of us grew up in the area &/or have lived here for years and were unaware this gem existed. If you find yourself near like a kids school/daycare type area in a large parking lot, you are not in the right spot. Cross to the opposite side of the stream where the apartments are. The trail is ideal after snow melt. We went first at the end of May and were greated by a lovely downhill stream with lots of waterfalls . Now going in September sadly it was all dried up. So keep that in mind based on when you want to visit.

It'll give you access to waterfront dining like Jake's on the Lake, beaches like Commons Beach, water sports like kayaking and stand up paddle boarding on the lake or rafting on the Truckee River, and parks such as Sugar Pine Point all the way down the west shore of Lake Tahoe. We came upon this trail while we were camping at Tahoe SRA. The trail goes right by the campground and snakes down to the lake. The campground host told us that if we wanted to use the park's pier or rent kayaks at Commons Beach, we'd have to go down this trail. We did and found that it's great for all of those things. We even went down the trail a little after 10 pm to take a look at the stars. We saw the Big Dipper, the North Star, and the Milky Way! If you're in Tahoe City, bike or walk on this trail!
