Gorgeous views of the lake and I never get tired of staring at this lake, whether in summer or the middle of winter. No one was really here when I came as it had just snowed a ton so I got the park mostly to myself. I fall in love with the mountains surrounding the lake everytime I come. And this time, the snow on the peaks with the blue from the water was just totally mesmerizing. There is a parking lot here which was mostly empty when I came but probably very challenging in the summer. Glad I got to see this beach in all its serenity and peace in the middle of winter. Came here yesterday with my husband and best friend. What's great about this location during the winter is there's hardly anyone here, even in the middle of the day. The snow in the background is the perfect backdrop to the sandy shore, and the water is so gorgeous and clear. The day was so calm, with nary a breeze--perfect for skipping rocks and rediscovering my inner child. The pier has locks on the gate, and we found some throuple and quadruple locks that made us grin. (Way to go to those living their best lives; keep rocking on, my dudes). The beach is dog friendly, and most people have very well-behaved animals. Most people also kept doggie-doo off the ground to keep the park nicer for everyone to enjoy. I'm not always an outdoorsy person, yet this was the balm to my soul I've been missing since the start of the pandemic. PS: don't use the bathrooms. Like most parks anywhere, hubs called them disgusting. read more

After snow shoeing up near Chickadee Ridge, Kings Beach was easy to swing by after lunch in the area. On a March weekday, the lot had plenty of parking, but it's not a large parking area, so I imagine summers are probably impossible to get a spot. You can use your California State Parks pass, otherwise there is a day use fee. There are a few picnic areas, pier and a short walking trail in addition to the beach. Nearby, you can also walk to a few shops and restaurants. It's more laid back feel than some other parts of Tahoe (although maybe that's due to it being off season.) Lots of scenic views and a nice relaxing spot to enjoy the lake. read more

Stopped off for another lake walk on the way home from Tahoe City. Perfect Sunday to enjoy the fresh air and nature. Kings beach was more crowded than it's sister to the West in Tahoe City. But nevertheless just as beautiful. Parking was a bit more challenging. read more

Beach is great! Just make sure if you go on the weekends, leave a bit earlier because parking gets full quick. We went on a Saturday and had to find parking on the side streets. Parking cost $10, self pay at a kiosk. Just know, it can get terribly packed. This place does get very busy. The awesome thing I like about this beach is all the restaurants that are walking distance. They have little shops and bars literally 5 minutes walking time. Beware that bathrooms are busy due to the amount of people, so maybe not the cleanest, but not the worst. These have sinks and are flushable. Plenty of places to rent kayaks, paddle boards, jet skis and even parasailing. They also have the big wheel tricycles for the water. Pretty pricy if you're interested. There is a park next to the beach area and also a basketball court on the other end. Lifeguards are on duty and I even saw one picking up someone's trash left behind. The saddest part is when the trash gets full, people just dump everything right next to it so whatever you bring in, PLEASE TAKE IT BACK OUT. read more

While the views at this beach are breathtaking, nothing about this beach is well-maintained. The bathroom facilities are absolutely disgusting, parking is chaotic, the pier is quite dilapidated, and even the sidewalks are not maintained. There's also a lot of trash along the sand which doesn't help the ant problem. Parking is currently $10 (which isn't bad for a full-day at the beach) and there's a few restaurants and bars to walk to across the street. My recommendation is to head to Sand Harbor or Commons Beach for better and cleaner amenities. read more

On our way back home from Tahoe, we made a quick stop to King's Beach. It was such a hot and beautiful day, and we saw plenty of families and groups spread out throughout the crowded beach with towels and tents everywhere. The water itself was gorgeous and apparently quite shallow for a good ways out. Perfect if you don't know how to swim (like me!) or have small children in tow. There were also plenty of people enjoying activities on the water including: paddleboarding, kayaking, pedal boats, as well as these really cool and large looking quad cycle trikes. There's a rental place just across from the beach where you can rent a lot of these equipment and more. It was sadly just a pit stop for us on the way home. But will definitely plan to enjoy the beach and waters longer next time we're up there. There's a paid parking lot, but we opted to simply park in the residential area across the street for free. read more

What do you do when you have a toddler that needs to get her wiggles out before nap time? Well you find the nearest playground, silly! There's a parking lot dedicated to the park. You pay at the little kiosk. It's an unattended parking lot. There is a bathroom near the playing structure which is nice. The day was beautiful. There was great amount of kids on the play structure and there was a handful of people on the beach and even in the water. Lots of benches and some picnic tables. You could definitely spend an entire day here. You don't even need to bring food. You can pick up lunch from the Taco Bell or any of the other many restaurants across the street and eat on the beach. We have to return when the weather is warmer and spend a full day here! read more

This is about as far north as you can get on Lake Tahoe, and is on the California side of the state line with Nevada. Across the state line is Nevada's Incline Village where we ate lunch earlier. Another area popular for sunbathing; temperatures were in the mid-70s while we were there. This area is also a hub for boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, jet skiing, and even parasailing. But not a lot going on the couple of hours we spent here; hanging out on the pier ( which could use some restoration). As well as walking along the paved trail, and sitting at a picnic table reading and conversing. The public restrooms leave somewhat to be desired, and are badly in need of toilet seat covers; especially for the ladies using them. Wait for the first available, they're all gender neutral. I found Kings Beach to be an excellent spot for photo ops. And Lake Tahoe as a whole is very nostalgic for us, having spent our honeymoon here some 22 miles south in South Lake Tahoe. The lake itself is 22 miles long and 12 miles wide, the highest lake of its size in the United States at an elevation of 6,229 feet above sea level. Lake Tahoe is shared by California and Nevada in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. A very popular vacation destination, offering about every outdoor activity you could imagine. There are plenty of Vacation homes, cabins, Inns, Hotels, and motels for rent. read more

Visited Lake Tahoe last weekend for 4th of July and it was such a great experience!! We arrived at the beach at around 6:40am, the parking lot was pretty empty with only a few other cars unloading. The cost for the day on weekends $10 and there is a parking machine available so you can pay with either cash or credit card. The beach was clean and so was the water. It got pretty full by 12pm which I imagine is the norm during the summer weeks. Kayak and Paddle board rentals are located on the beach, there are many stores and restaurants within walking distance and a gas station just across the street selling everything you need to enjoy a great day of sun and water. The bathrooms weren't super clean and there was no soap dispensers but it was bearable. Be prepared to wait on a long line or be brave and use one of the many disgusting port a potty's available. There are no garbage pails on the beach however there are two large dumpsters in the parking lot for people to pack out their trash. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I will be back soon to enjoy another day! read more

My daughter's favorite beach to visit in the summer since she was only a baby. It's clean, with several restrooms and a playround nearby. They offer rentals and boat rides. It's a self register to park inside, and it's $10 fee for all-day use or $3 an hour. With school out, you can find us out here with family. We usually pack our cooler, shade tent, chairs, towels, and lunch sometimes dinner. If not, there are plenty of dining options nearby. I love working in the area, especially during the summer months. I'm never in any rush to get home when I'm here, and today is no exception. Thanks to the staff that keeps up the restrooms, etc. read more

I did not go into the water today but I did take the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful state park. I found free parking up the street https://www.yelp.com/biz/christmas-tree-parking-lot-kings-beach?hrid=20wQH-nXcCNsyr7CFpYW-g and so I did not have to pay anything to enter. All sorts of activities here from volleyball to swimming, jetskis and paddleboats. There's even a basketball court and a playground. Picnic tables all around including one occupied by a possible residentially-challenged guy drinking from a brown paper bag. Good luck, dude. The view from the beach and on the pier is fantastic. I have never been to Tahoe before but I now understand why people in Los Angeles and San Francisco swear by it. This is amazing. I forgot about the beauty of north lake until our last visit. We got there early (8am) and paid the $10 to park close. It was a Friday and it filled up 10/10:30. The water is currently low so it lead to some extra beach with some parts quite rocky. Thankfully as you get closer it gets sandy again. Perk of low water was that swimming in Tahoe felt like a dream! Perfect temp. The park was awesome for kids. The bathrooms were very clean. Overall a good beach for a day trip. Very disappointed with our latest beach day at kings beach. I haven't been in a couple years, but I grew up at this beach and went many many times throughout my childhood. It was so crazy over populated, it looked like it was the 4th of July. I couldn't believe how many people were there for a random Sunday morning. Parking was atrocious, which although isn't rare, was extra bad. The beach was filthy. We love our dogs and love to bring them to dog friendly beaches, but respect the beaches that don't allow dogs. Especially considering so many people don't pick up after their pets. There were dogs at the beach, which like I said, we LOVEEEEE DOGS. but there was dog poop ever. The ranger drove through multiple times and not once told anyone to leave because of their dogs. If you're going to bring your dogs anywhere, ESPECIALLY somewhere they are not allowed, PICK UP THEIR POOP! There was trash everywhere along the beach. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. There was pee and poop on the ground In the bathrooms. The water wasnt clear until we got 100+ feet out. The beach was smelly. I've never seen people treat our beautiful lake so terribly. People were walking around and hanging out on the beach with giant boom boxes playing loud music when so many people go to the beach to relax. I know I sound like a major stickler right now but this is not the Tahoe I grew up with and it makes me so sad to see it going this way. I don't know the answers to fix this but I wish people would care more. read more

On our way to Sand Harbor for Mother's Day. It was packed already by 10 AM, so we had to find another place. Drove across the border to California at Kings Beach. The beaches were not open yet, however they allowed people to walk . Parked on the street had a bit of a walk, however it was really nice. The water was a freezing 45°F however this did not stop the kids from staying in till they turn the blue. The weather was pretty nice 75 to 85° through the day. We barbecued some Kearny Asada we bought from Winco. We also pre-boiled some corn, and put it on the barbecue so it was nice and caramelized. Not sure if it was legal, however ran to a local market and bought some sangria. It was a really nice time. After the wind started picking up, we decided to pack up and drive over toward Sand Harbor and stop at one of my favorite places on the way. There's no real name for it, however lots of locals know about the little trail that goes down to a really tiny beach. Some rocks to swim out to so the kids decided... Yeah to get back in the water yet again. Funny story, about 25 years ago, giver take a couple, my girlfriend and I decided to camp at the spot. We were amazed that no one was around the place was deserted. I knew there was no overnight parking, so we actually hitchhike from Reno up the mountain. After staying for four days, we were hiking out and I turned and saw a sign that actually said do not feed or touch the animals bubonic plague epidemic. I could not believe what I read. Now we knew why they were no people. We had chipmunks and squirrels and even a couple of raccoons in our tent. We dodged a bullet that weekend. Good times!!! read more

What a beautiful view of Lake Tahoe that you get from King's Beach! My son and husband practically ran straight from the parking lot into the water! We have the California Poppy parking pass, so we were able to easily park (and not pay the daily fee) in the lot right off the beach. It was a very easy walk across the lot to the beach. Since it's right in town, food is accessible (our friends returned with some yummy chili and bread for us), there are restrooms (we didn't use it so I don't know how clean they are). The sand is fairly nice - it is a tad dirty with trash in the sand that we tried to pick up. I am giving it four stars too bc it was a bit crowded - if you are not a fan of too many people on beaches, this is not the beach for you. Overall it's a great beach with many conveniences at your fingertips. read more

Beautiful, but very populated! Located right off the main drag in Kings Beach lies this very easily accessed slice of public Tahoe beach. The snow capped mountains surround and the blue skies are mirrored off the calm glassy water. That serenity is punctuated by screams of children, dogs barking, families trying to gather for a photo, and of course, the vehicles in the parking lot and in the road a few hundred yards away. Don't get me wrong. This park can totally be enjoyed. The facilities are nice and clean and bathrooms immaculate. You are not far from your vehicle, so you can bring lots of fun, making this a great area for families. Best of all there is limited shade provided by some big trees semi separating the parking lot from the beach! One last downer... $10 to park! Get there early and you'll probably find a spot in the nearby neighborhood streets. Tahoe is our backyard. May as well enjoy it! read more

My family and I were on vacation in Kings Beach and we stopped to explore Kings Beach Park to help our girls (5 & 7) to burn off some extra energy. It was winter so it was just us and a handful of other people. There is a really nice play structure that the girls spent a long time playing on. The view is spectacular and it's a great spot to take photos. It's so wild to be able to stand on a beach see the nearby snow capped mountains. The water is so clear. You can almost walk to the end of the pier and still be able to see through it. Though I am sure that this place is very popular in the summer, I would recommend stopping here no matter what time of year you are passing through the Kings Beach area. read more

We went to Kings beach two consecutive days. Wednesday (7/7) in the afternoon and 7/8 in the morning. On 7/7, 2-4 pm, it was super hot. So hot that it was almost too hot to walk on the sand even with flip flops. The temperature was in the high 90s. No wind. Not a lot of shade. Too bright to read a book. Beach was super packed too. People were camped right next to each other on the beach and in the water. out. The water temperature was perfect. It wasn't too cold. The beach was shallow for a long stretch so you can walk out and only be knee high. Pe were able to put their chair in the water to sit and get some relief from the heat. The next day, we went in the morning around 10:30. There were some people already there but it was not as crowded. Water was perfect. Sand was not burning hot. It was low 70s when we arrived but close to 100 by the time we left to get lunch. In addition to lots of sunblock, I would bring a beach umbrella and a sun hat next time I go. There were a lot of activities including parasailing, kayaking, paddle board, and I also saw a couple of ski jets. There are a lot of rental places near by but they do not offer lessons. No charcoal fire or alcohol allowed. I don't know if they allow dogs or not but I didn't see any dogs on the beach. Paid parking was $10. read more

On a Saturday. Good: It's a large beach area, nice amenities within walking distance, water is clear, plenty of water activity rentals, very convenient for those coming from I-80. Bad: A bit overcrowded on the beach and even more so in the water, lots of boat and jet ski traffic nearby causing noise and wake for those just wanting to relax, seems to be a party scene with lots of pop up tents, food cooking, loud music all set up right on the water so you have to walk through someone's party to get in or out of water, rocky water entry not the safest/most comfortable. Overall it's okay, can see the appeal, but it's not as nice as we were hoping based on other reviews. read more
