When my sister could no longer care for her small house due to her severe back pain, she decided an assistant living facility would be her next best move. And luckily she chose Heritage Pointe. What a great place! The caregivers are so kind and knowledgeable and hard working. The management is committed to exceptional care. On move in, the staff arranged and rearranged, hung, moved, catered. They painted the apartment to the color of her choice. There is weekly sparkling housekeeping and one day laundry service. There are all levels of care from independent living to memory care. She needed help with showering and dressing. But in addition, someone would always pop by to check on her in the morning, make up her bed and set a small breakfast. And they checked on her all day. Always going the extra. There is plenty to do. There is a pool, a movie theatre, a workout room with personal trainers , an on-site physical therapist, a library, classes, lectures, guest speakers and performers, happy hour, a piano lounge, a hair salon, transportation to all of the local shops and conveniences and a coordinator to arrange a driver for doctor appointments. There are three meals in a lovely dining room. The staff and the residents are very friendly and make sure that a new arrival is introduced to and assimilated into the community and she made what became close friends In a medical emergency, Provident Mission Hospital which is a Level2 trauma center is only one mile away. In addition, Heritage Pointe offers accelerated care in their Sage Unit. We, her family, are so grateful for the loving, expert care she received in their beautiful surroundings read more

My mother had always planned to move to Heritage Point. It wasn't until she needed assistance that we went and toured it. There seemed to be confusion in the sales office between a couple of salespeople, but I didn't realize until I reflected later. We went and saw the property, it was definitely within our means, so we started the process to move mom in. We were given such a run around by them because we were trying to move her in as soon as possible, her Newport Beach house had sold and she needed a new home. There were so many delays and so much bullshit. Her doctor and give the ok for her to go to assisted living, but the LVN and clerical team, decided her doctor didn't know enough and they declared she needed more help and they couldn't assist her. It turned out to be a blessing, because she moved in to Vivante Luxury Assisted living, in Newport near where her home was. We later saw all the complaints against HP, and felt we dodged a bullet. At Vivante they have Chef Prepared meals, so much going on, elegant town car transportation to appointments and excellent care. Before considering HP, sample a meal there and really look at the activities and notice the level of participation. Then look at other spots,like Encinitas, and check out Vivante. My mom will have lived at Heritage Pointe for 8 years now. She started in Assisted Living and has transitioned to Memory Care. The staff, many of whom have been there for many years, are all caring, professional and attentive. Erin Palposi, the Executive Director, has helped us greatly through the transitions and is a kind and caring professional. My mom loves Heritage Pointe, and we feel grateful that she's so well taken care of. My mother-in-law has been staying at Heritage Pointe for respite while she is recovering from a stroke. The facility is lovely and bright and bustling with activities and active seniors. The residents have been so welcoming to her. There is a movie theatre , a library, a card room, beauty parlor and gorgeous dining room. However, the best part of this wonderful place is the staff!! It isn't your grandmother's retirement home. Well, unless you are fairly young, live in OC, and are Jewish, then maybe grandma already lives here... but I digress. The place was built as a residence complex for 20-somethings, small efficient apartments and a dining hall. Who would have guessed that young adults would not flock to a dorm like setting? So it was re-purposed as a retirement community, catering to the OC Jewish community. The accept all, but it is really geared toward Jews. The kitchen in kosher (or kosher-ish, I am not 100% sure), alternating dairy and meat meals. There is a synagogue on site where the residents help out with all aspects of the services. The Cantor who leads everything is very sweet (and not a resident). There are buses that take the residents to medical appointments and outings like the mall, the movies, restaurants for lunch... There is a full activity calendar, with movies, card clubs, language lessons, study, music, bingo... The food is OK, and the staff is very attentive. Most residents are independent living, though many have hired an attendant. This is not a skilled nursing facility, though they do have a special wing for Alzheimer patients. Additional services, such as laundry, medicine maintenance, bathing assistance... can be purchased a la carte. It is not the cheapest option out there, but if you want to be in a location where the Jewish Holidays are observed and you can talk to other is Yiddish, this may be the only real opportunity in OC for a full facility. My Mom is here, and it gives me a lot of peace of mind that she is well cared for, with a staff then knows her and come December, Christmas is the afterthought, not Hanukkah. read more

I am a resident at Heritage Pointe and the food here is NOT healthy. It is high in sodium, fat, sugars, and high calorie, low nutrition (empty) carbs. The vegetables are often not fresh, and often cooked with oil instead of steamed. If you value the health of your loved ones, look elsewhere. Came here as a vendor. I must say the lack of professionalism and compassion towards the residents and visitors here really lacks in every regard. It surprises me, being in the position they're in, you would think they would have some sort of professionalism or manners. But from the reception (Jill) to whoever was guiding residents into a bus, i feel sorry for them. The elder community shouldn't have that and you can tell the people that work there hate their jobs. read more

One of my parents has been at Heritage Pointe for many years. They are in memory care, now, and I can't say enough good things about the wonderful staff in memory care. We also love that it is a Jewish place as that has been a comfort to my parent, even if they were not a religious person when younger. The food is usually quite good. Before memory care I would join them in the dining room and was usually happy with my meal. I believe they are somewhere in the planning of a wing that provides more care for residents who require quite a bit of assistance but don't need memory care. If there was an improvement needed, it would be this, but I think it's in the plans. It's a lovely, caring place. read more

When I'm an old Jewish grandmother, please drop me off with a photo of the grandkids and knitting needles here. I remember when I was little visiting my Aunt Butchy (we won't talk about the name) at her nursing home in Texas. I remember the distinct smell of decomposition. I was nine-years-old and I still remember how depressing the place was. When six months ago my grandparents decided that they wanted to move into an assisted living home I shuddered. No one deserves to spend their last years in a place like that. Then I went online and saw the video of Heritage Pointe. This isn't my Aunt Butchy's old folks home. This place is great. It has a beautiful synagogue just after you walk into the main doors. It's a proper prayer space with fixed benches, a bima and ark. It could have stood alone as a beautiful prayer space. The woman who spoke to us (my mother and I) about the place was incredibly nice. As we started to tour HP we would stop every minute or so, so she could talk to a resident. She always knew their name, and more importantly, they looked genuinely happy to talk with her. The apartments aren't huge, but they are proper apartments. Each apartment had a kitchen, smaller than a normal kitchen, but you could still make a brisket in it. This, we later found out, isn't the case with all senior residencies. The amenities were fantastic -- pool, hot tub, putting green, media room, arts room, etc. The dining room looked like a restaurant instead of a cafeteria. The activities offered each week cover a wide spectrum of interests and activities, from reading groups to lunchtime getaways. If I could retire tomorrow, I really would like to spend my time here. I think my favorite aspect of the place were the residents. They all had chutzpa. They weren't waiting around for the inevitable, they were there so they could live. I went with my boyfriend to visit his grandmother here. Granted, I haven't been to many assisted living homes, but this one seemed pretty nice. The dining room is more like a restaurant than a cafeteria. They have nice waiters and a salad bar, and multi course meals. His grandma seemed to like the food, but I was not too keen on it. I think the kitchen is really only for special occasions because they definitely did not cook any of the food we had - it came right out of a can or a bag (Bagels and Lox, ratatouille, borsht, and cobbler). I actually couldn't bring myself to eat most of the food. Maybe when you get old you don't care anymore because everyone around us seemed to be enjoying the meals. I have heard on occasions like mother's day they actually make use of the kitchen and make food that everyone will enjoy. The place looked very clean and the Grandma told us there are outings and events all the time. The apartments were pretty good sized (she had a studio) and her room even had a balcony. I'm sure it is not easy to have to move into a place like this but overall it seemed ok. read more

I have volunteerEd at Heritage Pointe for 9 years, until COVID-1, and miss it terribly. I am so happy that the residents were kept safe and secure during this time. My friends and I meet with residents in the beautiful Great Room and knit/crochet together. We have taught some residents how, we have fixed residents Knitting/crochet goofs and just had a happy time talking and laughing. As a result of our project, every resident moving into Heritage Pointe gets a new handmade Afghan made by volunteers around the county. It has been a joy to see how happy the residents are. read more

My mother-in-law lived at Heritage Pointe from 2010 until her passing in May 2015. My mother-in-law moved from a two-story home in Long Island, New York to a one bedroom apartment at Heritage Pointe. She loved her apartment: it turned out to be the perfect size for her (although I thought she would have felt cramped after living in a two-story house, but this was not the case). She was able to make many friends and enjoyed all the offered activities. When it was time to move to Memory care, the size of Memory Care (a maximum of 16 residents) enabled the staff to give almost 1: 1 care. She regularly attended the Music program on Sundays with all the residents and had her hair done at the internal salon regularly. She may have lost a lot of her memory, but she always looked well kept and taken care of until the very end and truly enjoyed Heritage Pointe. read more

My father-in-law lived at Heritage Pointe. He loved it! And we loved that he was being both cared for and cared about. The amazing staff makes sure everyone feels safe and appreciated. Even though my father-in-law was kind of a shy guy, he got into the social whirl right away because of the Resident Welcoming Committee. He was so busy my husband and I had to make appointments to see him! This is a fun place, where all the Residents are encouraged to stay active and find purpose. One of Heritage Pointe's seniors recently finished a novel, at 101! You can see from the pictures, how beautiful the place is. We finally got my mom to move out here from Florida after years of requests. We took her looking one time when she was out here on a visit and we visited about 10 senior residences. When we walked into Heritage Pointe she looked at me and said that this was the one. She immediately felt at home; the people, staff, surroundings were what she was looking for. She's been there for 4 years now and loves it more each day. She even became part of the welcoming committee for new residents. Even during COVID, they have managed to keep them safe and allow them to have enough socializing to keep everyone happy. We cannot say enough about the professionalism of the staff and how warm everyone is there. It's beautifully maintained and modernized. This is the place if you want your parent(s) to have a comfortable, happy senior life. read more

My Mom has been here for about 4 months now and us "kids" couldn't be happier. The staff is super helpful and friendly and the food is exceptionally good. It is a total relief to know that Mom is in a place where she is watched over and well cared for. There is a full time nurse on site and the caregivers are so patient and caring and do everything they can to make her home the best it can be. Recently, HP has done some stunning additions, overall redecorating and room renovations. If you are looking for a beautiful place for a parent or loved one, I would highly recommend HP. And if you haven't been there in awhile, there are a lot of wonderful new differences. But the main thing is that Mom is happy in her new home. read more

Whatever you do, please do not have your loved ones move here. My grandma has been living here for almost a year now. In the first few months, three of her rings were stolen. She talked to some of her other lady friends and they had jewelry stolen as well. After nothing else going missing for a few months my grandma's WEDDING BAND was stolen. My grandpa has been dead for 15 years next month, and the reminder my grandmother gets of that is her stolen wedding band. This priceless piece of family history can never be replaced. My father has been a resident of this large facility for six years. He started in assisted living, due to fall risk and his inability to take care of his day to day needs without assistance. He enjoyed the independence and having his group of guys to eat with for every meal. The food is ok but not gourmet. It is geared toward the Ashkenazi and American diet, but with the dietary needs of the elderly. There is kosher supervision, which I love. A year and a half ago, a room finally opened in the very popular memory care wing. We jumped at the chance. The residents have individual rooms (in two room pods with a shared bathroom) and they are all together during the day for meals, in a space that feels pretty much like an open floor plan house. It's beautifully maintained and decorated. There was a massive overall renovation done several years ago and additions of more communal living spaces and new landscaping. I can today enough about the staff. The caregivers know everyone and treat the residents and their families with total respect. They remember everyone's names, know the family members and act like these sometimes difficult residents are family. I am blessed to have this place for my dad. I can't wait to be able to visit him normally. (They have been very careful to try to contain Covid, so we can only have visits in an open area by appointment, socially distanced with a barrier and mask. It's hard but it's the law. She had every appointment in her living quarters much like her home. We are grateful to the staff who took such good care of her. My mother in law currently resides at the Memory unit at Heritage Pointe in Mission Viejo, CA. I would advise anyone that has a parent, relative or friend that has memory issues to go elsewhere! My mother in law has fallen several times while at the memory unit, got out of the facility and has been overly medicated by the so called MD at the Unit. Additionally they have had us not only pay for the exorbitant rent but also have us paying for a person to come in about 8 hours a day every day to take care of her. They appear to have no knowledge of taking care of people with memory issues except ones that sleep all day! We are now taking our mother in law to a better facility. Additionally my mother in law did live in a regular apartment at Heritage Pointe for about 2 years and that was fine. But then when she started having memory issues they advised that she would be better off in the Memory Unit! Of course the Memory unit is about $2,300 dollars more for rent then the regular apartment units there. It is quite ironic that recently the staff at Heritage Pointe suggested that we should put my mother in law back into one of their apartments and hire a live in! Thanks but no thanks! We had already listened to them and moved her from her apartment to the Memory Unit! What a mistake that was! read more

Heritage Pointe was home for my mom and is home to many of my friends parents whom I visit regularly. They all regard Heritage Pointe as a warm and loving place to live and this is obvious from the joy on the resident's faces. The food is wonderful and cooked fresh each day with consideration of choice for the various dietary needs of elderly, I have the pleasure of enjoying dinner here frequently. The caring staff know all the residents by name. The home is open and bright with views to the gracious outside gardens. The Arts & Crafts room is always busy with projects, the gym has trainers and group classes and the card room is busy with poker, Mahj Jong, Pan and other games. Fun and intellectual events are planned daily. The camaraderie is palpable. I'm so glad my mom had 4 years of joy here; she had a good life and made lots of friends. I hope I get to live in such a caring environment when I can no longer cook and clean for myself. read more
