I have purchased many cars over the years and have worked with dealerships representing Toyota, Nissan, Jeep, Volvo, and several other brands. Most of those experiences were unremarkable--neither particularly good nor bad. When I recently started shopping for a Subaru Crosstrek, I spoke with dealerships in Glen Burnie and Annapolis, as well as Heritage Subaru. I normally don't leave negative reviews, but this experience needs to be shared. I brought my Subaru Outback to Heritage Subaru Catonsville for a check engine light. After multiple visits and being without my car for about 5 weeks, I was charged $433 for an oil change as part of their diagnostic process. They then told me I needed to pay $1,749 for an engine teardown. That didn't sit right, so I took my car to another shop and what they found was shocking: * The air filter was completely missing * The air box wasn't even bolted down * The oil was dirty and low * Meaning: the oil change I was billed for was never done Even worse, the "major issue" they wanted $1,749 to diagnose was fixed with a simple oil change and a new battery. When I contacted the dealership: * I was told a manager would call me back (they didn't) * [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I followed up, they denied anything was wrong[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm not saying this was intentional--but at best, it shows a serious lack of quality control. [[HIGHLIGHT]]DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I bought a 2016 Chevrolet Spark EV with 47k miles at this dealer after on 7/3 and on the way home the car's 35mile charge died after 10miles stranding us at a charging station in the heat for hours and they are offering no refund and are trying to now get more money out of us for a different car on the lot. We never got a full test drive on 7/3 with the car because the dealer only had a level 1 charger. So it only had 9mils charge on it to start after another person tested it before us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]So we had no idea what the full battery was on this car and had to ask our sales person Jessica Granzoa, who said probably more than 60miles.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We also asked if it had a back up camera and she said yes, because we forgot to test it during the 5min test drive. We took her at her word and had the paperwork signed while we ate lunch nearby.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After getting back from lunch it had a 35 mile charge, which looked to be about half. We thought no problem- we just have to make it 20. When pulling out it had no back up camera on the display and all Jessica said at that point was "Oh is that a deal breaker?" and I thought well that seems fishy, but I don't want to be too demanding (jokes on me).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Then we get 10 miles down the road before the battery is totally gone slowly pull into charging station at the laurel library that was closing in 30mins. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We called the dealer, but all they offered was a tow to another charger if this one stops working.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ended up having to get a ride home from a friend and then coming back when it was charged as it was a dangerous heat index of above 110 degrees at that point after the library closed. We had the car towed back to the dealer the next day at our own expense on 7/4 - $200. We went in on Monday 7/6 morning to chat about this issue and the upper-management outright refused to refund our purchase and they had also taken my trade-in vehicle already and deposited my 9K. So, I'm without money and a car too. They said my options are: 1. take the same car after they fixed the tire monitor light that had also come on the drive home (no offer to fix the battery issue) or 2. pay an additional $4000 for a gas 2017 kia sonata lx with 104k miles (or any other more expensive car on the lot). [[HIGHLIGHT]]We asked to think over it for the day feeling really defeated, but on the way home we saw 2019 chevy spark gas with 97k miles.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not ideal, but it was a similar price and body style with a back up camera on the heritage dealership website. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had taken the card of another sales person who was working with us on Monday-Jinaid and called him right away. He said that swap between the two chevy sparks would work and the 2019 just needed to pass MD inspection first before being transported to their lot for a test drive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We talked for three days in a row about the status of the car, but on Thursday Jinaid stopped answering his phone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the dealership and they made it seem like maybe that car had been sold to someone else and so I asked for a call back ASAP.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have been without a vehicle for a week and I have a job I need to drive to! [[HIGHLIGHT]]They never called me back. I called again on Friday to no answer from Jinaid's line.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the mainline again and am told that the 2019 chevy spark isn't available and was never available to me. They are "really mad at that sales person for me".[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I go back into the dealership in person yesterday to talk about how the hell the chevy spark gas got sold out from under me as I had been talking with their sales team since this issue started.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They refused to take any accountability are still trying to get me to pay 4k or more for another car on their lot or take the broken EV.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They refused to discount the amount that they paid me for my trade-in too, which feels like theft since the car they sold me car that can't make it to my home FROM THE DEALER - 21miles. Do not buy any warranty from this dealership, you will regret it. I bought a 2022 Forester from this place and was convinced by the sales rep to spend $3,000 on a so-called "paint protection warranty." I was told it would cover scratches and dents, that it would give me peace of mind knowing the exterior of the car was protected. That was a complete LIE. After shipping the car to Hawaii, the paint started fading. When I contacted the warranty company, I found out the coverage I was sold doesn't include any paint protection at all, just minor dent repair, and even that is limited. No paint. No help. Nothing like what I was promised. Worse, the warranty terms aren't even clearly spelled out in the contract, just a vague link to an external site where the terms can change at any time. You have to improve transparency, I took my car to get the warranty for my turbo and they switched my good clutch for a bad one just so I had to repair it with them and they were charging me over 3000 to get it fix and they were the ones who ruined it. read more

I had an unexpected issue with my electronic parking brake on my 2017 outback. The car wouldn't move forward or back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Heritage subaru at 7:30 the next morning and talked to Lynese. She was AWESOME! My wife and I traveled from Upstate New York to Baltimore to go to Johns Hopkins for a surgical consultation. (Not sure why the review says I'm from San Francisco...that's bizarre.) While in MD, our Subaru Forester's thermo control valve failed...and failed closed, so we were in a situation where continuing to drive the car the engine very likely may have failed. We went to Heritage Subaru, and were helped by Aaron Sierak. There is a recall on the thermo control valve, and so it is a loss for the dealership to have to help someone with this problem (we paid $0 out of pocket for the repair). Initially, the expected wait time for the repair was up to 3 days. Fortunately, Aaron and the repair team were able to secure the part and fix the car the same day. At first, expecting to finish by 5pm (after which we would drive back to NY). THEN, however, the team was able to finish the repair a little after 3pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They say that you can tell if someone is a good person if they do things for others who can't do anything for them in return. Aaron and an anonymous mechanic (or team) did such a thing for us and are a credit to Heritage Subaru.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Based on this experience, I hope that Heritage Subaru is the leading Subaru dealer....in the U.S. I can't emphasize how much their compassionate service means to me. My daughter just got serviced with Subaru and she said the service was not as good as expected. I was told The guys in the lane were helpful to her they tried to get an advisor to help they all act like they could not help my daughter. She felt like everyone there had a problem with checking her in and the wait time they said was 1hr 30min was not done in that time frame for basic service. She overheard the managers conversation and heard them talking bad about other associates within the building. I'm very upset about her experience at Subaru Catonsville dealership. I give you guys 1star for my daughter experience do not recommend coming here AT ALL!! Selection of 2021 Crosstrek and Outback is very limited due to a reduced production of vehicles because of Covid. I test drove both, but it didn't have the features I wanted. I did like the drivability. It handled very well. My husband and I were walking around the lot awhile before anyone came to help. This may be due to the fact that this is a small dealership. Abby came up to us after a few minutes and asked if we needed assistance. She was very helpful and thorough in explaining the features. Unfortunately we ended up purchasing a car from Honda because it had the features I wanted and was within my price range. I would give Abby five stars for her customer service, but the dealership a three due to the limited selection although it's more of a manufacturing issue. read more

I purchased my Subaru Forrester from here. It was an amazing car. I brought it back to be serviced before moving across the country and one of the things that I discussed with the rep was a transmission flush. She asked me if there was a problem? And what made me want to get that done? I told her that I had had the car for about three years at the time and I was driving the car across the country and wasn't sure if that was something that I needed. The rep let me know that they would check to see if it was needed let me know before the service was done. That is not what happened. That service was done and about a week later when I was on the road driving across the country with my belongings, the transmission locked up on the highway while doing over 80 miles an hour. I ended up having to get towed to another Subaru dealership. The reps at the other dealership let me know that my transmission locked up and it would be about $11,000 to replace and to call the Subaru dealership that did the maintenance on the transmission because it shouldn't have been done. When I called Catonsville Subaru, the male rep was rude and gave me the run around. Due to me being overwhelmed & it being the end of the day, i ended up, having to get a room and figure out how I was going to continue moving across the country. I called Subarus customer service team, they opened a case and basically gave me a $500 credit the following day. Because of the negligence of Catonsville Subaru, I had to get another car with a much higher car payment and there was nothing done about my car that had the transmission lock up. I truly appreciate Germain Subaru for assisting me with this issue. I would never recommend Catonsville Subaru to anyone else! read more

Being a resident of the DMV area, I've had my fair share of car mishaps and service experiences that have left a lot to be desired. From a deer encounter to a string of unfortunate events with various service centers including Old Ox Auto's accidental damage during a routine fix, and a small garage's careless losing of my key, it's safe to say I've seen the highs and lows of auto repair. However, my recent experience with Heritage Subaru, specifically with Sadari, has unequivocally restored my faith in car service centers in the area. Picture this: the DC heat was at its peak, and I found myself with a broken AC and rear bearings. Given the surprises this month, including a rather hefty $1k outflow due to registration and accidentally hitting a deer, I was apprehensive about the impending costs. But I knew I could trust Sadari, my regular support person at Heritage, to make it feasible for me. So, I drove the hour to Ellicot City to assess the damage. I did have high costs - but despite the initial quote leaning towards the steeper side, Sadari, the star of Heritage Subaru, was there to help me with incredible customer service. She genuinely empathized with my situation, understood my budget constraints, and took the initiative to engage her manager to explore all avenues for affordability. And not just that - the original car mechanic I worked with didn't originally find an issue, but Sadari pressed to find the cause and discovered the Compressor needed replacing (and that was why it was so unreliable). Even with major repairs needed, the service was executed with impressive efficiency, all within the very day! An hour's drive to Heritage Subaru might seem daunting to many, but when you're guaranteed service of Sadari's caliber, it's a small price to pay. My experience serves as a testament to Sadari's dedication and commitment to customers. She's what genuine customer service should be - and even though I'm a woman, she never takes advantage of my lack of car knowledge. Quite the opposite - I always feel extremely supported. I'm not only thankful but now more than ever, convinced to make Heritage Subaru my go-to for any car-related needs. Thanks to Sadari, I can now cruise through DC without the fear of melting in the summer heat. If you're looking for a service center that won't fuck up your car, look no further than Heritage Subaru. That's not a typo. $100. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I repeatedly stated that this is my offer, yes or no.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had me sign a library of forms before they would give me a monthly figure and at one point let me sit alone in a cubicle for 45 minutes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I said I was leaving, they were suddenly available.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Different finance guy offered over $100 more per month, and for an additional year. I was visiting family in Catonsville a few weeks ago when the low tire pressure alert on my Subaru Outback came on for all 4 tires! When adding air did not resolve the issue and sleeting rain was starting I was able to talk to Heritage Subaru and drop my car off for them to take a look at it. They reset the sensor and check the tire pressure - everything came back okay. It was okay to drive home and they did not charge me for the check out. They really went above and beyond. read more

Just as an update, since someone drew attention to this review. Eric left the dealership shortly after my issues here. The free oil changes were never logged in the system. I ended up spending a lot more time at the dealership the same winter when my car had a cracked module that controls the remote locks. When the temperature would drop low enough, it would stop working. It took multiple stops in to convince them it was a problem despite clear instructions - this problem only occurs when the car is locked and cold. If you park it indoors, let it warm up and try, of course the problem won't happen. Took three trips there before a mechanic finally took it home with him and couldn't unlock it in the morning. I switched dealerships for my repairs, and i think the dealership has since been sold, so it may have been drastically improved since then... however, they refused to honor the oil changes, and I sort of have PTSD with this location, so I'll never go back. read more

Bought a used outback. I think the deal was fair, but I can't believe it took over 3 hours of sitting around with the salesman's excuses. Then, of course, the upselling of warranty. All the typical dealership BS. I know why people are opting for on-line purchases. I will next time. On top of that, it seems they just abandoned my trade-in. In the last 4 months I've had to provide paperwork to City of Baltimore and my insurance company to avoid being fined and charged for incidents involving a car I don't own and have turned in the plates to. Heritage Subaru Catonsville remains one of the only polite new car dealerships in the area who are capable of making a hassle-free deal. Unfortunately, Subarus lag behind other automakers in terms of the technology and efficiency I want in a vehicle. I really wish this place sold other brands because they are so much better to deal with than other automakers' dealerships, even under the Heritage company group. If you're fine with either full-electric or auto start-stop features, come here to get your Subaru and be treated like a human being. Okay, here is an update. The dealership did respond to my concerns. Actually, they did not respond to many of the emails I sent, except with the usual lip service. It took my making a social media complaint for them to actually respond. The General Manager called me, he apologized profusely and made the reimbursement happen. I am happy that they did this because it is what they should have done and I am pleased that once the right people were involved the issue was rectified. Will I go back to Heritage Subaru? Probably, I like my Service Advisor, she is a rock star, the service department management needs to rebuild my confidence. I will give them that chance, I am sure of it. Semir great service advisor. Stays on top of what's going on and follows up with you. Never had anyone so passionate about providing superb service. Now after reading other reviews welcome to read below about my opinion. First off Service Department always get treated horrible, yelled at and named crooks. Well what you are paying extra for is mechanics that are trained specifically for this brand and not all of above. The cost to keep up to date with the brand comes at an expense. Why is that my problem? It's not but remember you came to the brand and they did not come to you. Employees here does not make the car, they service it and does their best to complete the job accordingly. Yes it's very frustrating when something goes wrong with the car. I know. Those who owns an Ascent knows the headaches. I love my vehicle and on my second Ascent. Both I've had issues but it happens. This dealership especially Semir has really helped keep me informed on what is going on. If it's a repeated issues just contact Subaru headquarters! Not the dealership. At the end of the day the dealership knows what needs to get done but if manufacturer will not approved and it's out of the dealership hands. It's happened to me and I let Subaru of America know. Semir and rest involved has made sure I was kept in the loop and try to accommodate me the best they can. There is no perfect scenario. Things happens and just need to work together. Mechanics are trained to look at certain areas pending a miles and wear and tear. Then they give recommendations on what needs to be done. Up to you if you like to proceed or get second opinion. If you don't like the price, problems, or what ever it is then get rid of your car. No one said YOU had buy a Subaru or continue with the repair. You chooses too. Irritates me reading these useless reviews where customers give bad reviews when dealership has no control. I've had good experiences at this location and I will continue to bring my vehicle here. Loaner vehicles are available but sometimes customer might be in it for a week or month/s. Parts has been on back order so no telling when parts be in. It sucks but if you can't drive your car, there is a service called shuttle or rideshare of your choice. Don't blame dealership for not having a loaner. They can only get so many from Subaru of America and you are not the only one in need of a car. read more

Update: The car didn't come with advertised accessories. The window sticker advertised a 12 month/12,000 mile mile one advantage warranty.. that doesn't exist. No manager will call us back. 4/1 Wow.. what a contrast from my original impression. I could NOT recommend this dealership to anyone one with a clear conscience 2/28 Just happened to have made our way into Heritage Subaru. They had a "lost" Impreza that my daughter was looking for. Drove from the other side of town and wasn't really looking for the whole deal, yet. Met up with Will Rich an outstanding salesman. Treated my young adult daughter like one of the family. I can't express my gratitude to people who can treat you like customer but choose to treat you like family. Will was amazing and actually helped us with a non related product issue for a car that was not apart of the equation.. nobody does that these days. I hope that Will will continue to graciously help other people as he has done with us at Heritage. Just had to do a routine service checkup, it was my first time doing this at all since i usually do oil changes and filter replacements on my own. I was surprised at some of the reviews, because I have had nothing but wonderful service and fair prices. I do my research prior to any big services or part replacements and feel they are fair and honest, especially for a dealership service center. Bring it in for one repair, they give you a "complimentary inspection," then try to sell you $5000 worth of repairs, many of which are clearly invented on the spot. Bandits. Try to get through to a service advisor, they don't answer and tell you to leave a message. You leave a message and they never call back. You talk to the operator who volunteers to leave them a written message and they still don't call back. I raised it back to a two. I needed a new car as I was helping my daughter get a good vehicle. I had called 2 dealerships in the Baltimore area and told them what I wanted. I was ready to buy or lease. I wanted a a vehicle that had the adjustable pedals. But would look at all options No one seemed to be in a hurry to sell or lease me a car?? I called Heritage Subaru Catonsville GM Rich Hollander asked me lots of questions and what I could afford to spend. Before the end of the day he had found me a 2018 Taurus and would have it delivered to his store the next day. Needless to say, I went in , bought the car and warranty the next day Mr. Hollander, Abby Diallo ( sales associate) and his team made it very easy . It did not end there:. The service dept at this dealership is horrible!! Back in late March I called to get an appt for an oil change and a/c service. Was told the estimated time for this job would be 4-6 hours. I requested a loaner car because my recent back surgery doesn't allow me to sit for that length of time. And it was also not an unreasonable request for the amount paid for my auto and the extended warranty, etc. It is, after all, why they have loaner cars. First, the call taker told me she had no available cars and did not know when she'd get any back in. That's odd that you'd just let customers take your loaner cars without a timeframe. But okay. She said she'd call me when she got something back in. 3 weeks later, after not having heard from her, I called again. Still no cars and no timeframe. Hmmm .... I got better answers from a local gas station with a service bay, which is who eventually did the work and in significantly less time that I'd been quoted. For warranty work -- hey, Owings Mills isn't that far away. Not the first time Heritage's service dept lacked in performance. Have had previous experiences. Now, I won't even go back and have encouraged Subaru-owning friends and relatives to do the same. read more

This dealership put a crease down the side of my car during a routine warranty repair. Worse yet I had to get my insurance company involved as they initially denied doing any damage to my car. My insurance company hired a third party to investigate and with the evidence discovered Heritage Subaru of Catonsville admitted fault. $1800 in damage and three months later I now have a car that appraises less at trade in. During the warranty repair the service technician did additional damage to my car. A significant amount of corrosive brake fluid was splashed onto the cars paint. The front bumper was scuffed where tools and hoses were left resting. Some plastic trim pieces were not bolted back in correctly, left unsecured in the engine bay causing rattles. Please chose another dealership even if it is a free warranty repair. There are many qualified dealerships in the area with mechanics who know what they are doing, this isn't one of them. This shop takes no pride in their work and don't take ownership for the many mistakes they make. This isn't an isolated incident either, the body shop that I had my car repaired at said that they have been hearing a lot of issues with Heritage Subaru of Catonsville. read more

I called several Subaru dealers around the Baltimore area for price quotes on oil changes. Although based on past experiences, Russel Subaru isn't exactly cheap, it was definitely one of the cheapest in the area. Nevertheless, the service that this place provided was exceptional. Staff was friendly and oil changes were completed relatively quick. I was pretty happy with the results and will be coming back next time. It helps that this dealer has a loyalty punch card for if you buy three oil changes, you'll get one free. read more
