I've used HERM twice this year. Once for car below floor and another for hydraulic hose/fluid change with a valve replacement. Both times they provided excellent service. The service tech was extremely knowledgeable and communicated well. And Dave the GM was very easy to work with. They provided a written quote for the work to be done and there were no surprises with the final bill. We have used other elevator companies in the past that were not as competent nor as transparent. FACT-your email of October 18 said "I think we should be able to get it up and running properly. I agreed with that, you should have-BUT YOU DID NOT! If you had mentioned at that juncture that you would charge me $845 whether you repaired the elevator or not, I would have never engaged your company! FACT-Your advice to me was to get another repair company to do the job, with a steadfast refusal to return any of my payment. Your charge was way outside of reasonable when you consider your subcontractor was here for less than 1 hour, which is the total investment in this job for your company. He looked at different views of the rollers, and left with the elevator in the exact same condition as when he got there. You also recommended that I could consider directly contracting with your subcontractor to make repairs, but that it would have nothing to do with HERM-the deal would be between him and me, and that is not what I contracted for. sometimes in business you have to chalk up minor losses as a cost of doing business, but none of that has happened here... read more

Good responsive service, flexible scheduling to accommodate my availability, and knowledgeable technician who did routine maintenance, replaced a burned out tank heater, and some time later helped me reset system via a phone call. Switching to HERM was the best move we could have made... After having issues with getting service from Accredited, I started the search for someone else to service our elevator... Kyle & Josh were the two tech's that were sent out to service/Fix our elevator... We had had two maintenance visits and one repair visit from Accredited in the two years we have lived in our townhouse. HERM pointed out many things that I had suspected were missed by the other company, and a few other issues and code violations, the other folks never mentioned... Our hydraulic seal was leaking, causing us several issues... They made all the repairs, that the other company was going to make, and addressed several other major issues that the other company never mentioned... All for Half of the price that the other company was going to charge us for just one part of the repair... Kyle & Josh explained everything that needed to be done, and showed me everything they were doing, every step of the way... If a company tells you that they have to be the ones to service your elevator, because they were the company that built it/installed it, don't believe them... Home Elevator Repair & Maintenance (H.E.R.M.) was a pleasure to work with. The general manager, Dave, was super responsive, prompt and polite - making scheduling easy. He sent us digital copies of all of their policies and maintenance agreements so all the pricing was transparent and clear upfront. We found HERM after a bad experience using the company that was on the sticker on the elevator mechanical box - the tech from that place merely reset the machine and totally missed a major issue that immediately recurred not two hours after he left. By contrast, Kyle, the tech from HERM, immediately identified the problem (the arm that locks the elevator into place when it stops at a certain floor was broken, which had been causing it to stall between floors). Kyle also suggested two other minor fixes to help the machine run more smoothly. We received email copies of every quote and receipt from H.E.R.M., plus detailed notes with the tech's findings. When I had follow up questions via email, Dave responded immediately. He said they would also warranty their repairs for a certain period (I believe a year but need to double check that). In total, I was in touch with 3 different elevator repair companies this summer. For general maintenance and service, they all seemed to have a similar range for labor/service fees. (Parts can be more expensive and I only dealt with HERM once we got to that stage so can't give comparison there). Costs may be similar, but certainly the staff at HERM were far more professional and knowledgeable than the initial company we used. Save yourself a headache and call HERM first! read more

We discovered that it is hard to find a good maintenance company for home elevators here in south Jersey. The company that installed our home elevator was very bad at just about everything, so we could not trust using their sister "maintenance" company. We also tried another maintenance outfit here in south Jersey, but they did not seem to know much about our device, and they did not respect Covid precautions, so we dropped them. Finally we discovered Dave Tucker's H.E.R.M., and we have been using them for a couple of years now. They are careful and considerate and, most importantly, they actually really know what they are doing and they care about getting things right.
