Enjoyed a lovely late afternoon to evening at Hermann Park Garden Center. Numerous 2020 graduates put and about taking photos. Many families enjoying the day also. We walked a total of three hours around this and other park vistas. Beautiful day/evening! Japanese Garden near by was nice. Also near by was a veggie garden. All finds of herbs, too! One is where we get Vick's vapor rub from. Smelled just like it! Loved the water fountains and even though I didn't get to go, there is a lake not to far from here. So much to do and so little time! I'll be back and plan better! read more

Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful park! It has a very nice lake inside the park. There is the zoo... There is a train ride. Big open space for kite flying. Just awesome here. Its relaxing. Beatiful. I had the opportunity of visiting this beautiful place on Sunday and I must say I loved it. If you love flowers, you must visit this garden! I repeat myself: You MUST! They have many different kinds of flowers including some beautiful hybrids. The scent of the flowers and roses is delicously strong. I really enjoyed walking this little piece of Hermann park. I also liked the Japanese kiosk they have there, it is very beautiful. According to the website they do weddings and other functions there, so it may be worth checking out their calendar. I will visit this place often, as they have different kinds of flowers during different times of the year. Enjoy! read more

If you're visiting Houston this is a MUST SEE park. Right in the hear of the museum district, this park has some beautiful scenes and a great area to take a pretty scenic stroll. The Japanese Tea Garden is right around the corner as well. Walking distance! Always excited to go here when there is a festival! You won't be disappointed. read more

A lovely large park among the urban sprawl. My friend suggested to go through the new rose garden and although no roses around, we had a lovely romp around the place and up the mount with great views of the park and city. It's a large park, so if I did live in Houston, I would totally run around here as there are lots of trails. I would also love walking around with my boyfriend as we love walking parks. read more

Thanks Jaire!!! I am always in search of cool stuff to show tourists. I came in the heat of summer so a lot of the flowers are not in bloom but I would imagine coming in the spring this place is beautiful. But even without all of the flowers blooming this garden is worth checking out. There are many busts of famous people throughout the garden. There are benches along the sides and some shaded areas. I noticed some people eating their lunch out here and even some reading books. A nice little hidden gem. read more

This is a great space in Houston. With cool plants and interesting water features, this place is a solid respite from the chaos of every day Houston. There is a large parking lot that can fill up quickly. There are chairs and benches throughout the gardens as well as wifi. And thankful, you can bring both children and animals. It is advised to arrive early as this place gets really crowded on weekend afternoons. read more

It's something about going to the park that makes your day-- and Herman Park delivers this feeling with acres of foliage and flowers that tantalize the eyes and make you want to smile. I'm usually not one to venture into neighborhoods nor areas where parking is sparse, but my recent visit with a friend pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me realize my criteria would have me missing some of the finer things in life. HP's Garden Center was a wonderful background for my recent get together. And other people agree with me too given that I saw several couples with photographers using the park as the background for their pictures. Brides, graduates, and babies were also in attendance on an early Saturday morning. The place just has that much charm. It has been a long time since I went to the park--especially HP--but my recent visit has me itching for another opportunity to go back soon! read more

Absolutely love Hermann park for its size and scenery. Located in the heart of Texas Medical Center, Hermann park is a good place to go to connect with nature, decompress, and reflect. The fountain, the rail, and the museum districts are also within walking distance. Only confusion is the direction. There should be a walking trail and direction aps...for this park. Landmark pictures should guide tourist and visitor about the emblem they embodied. The park is huge! Regardless, Hermann park is in constant growth and improvement; it is very easy to get lost. This could be a good thing or a bad thing depends on your own perspective. read more

I love the Garden Center, it's really the best when all of the roses are in bloom. But I might be bias, roses are my favorite. It comes from great memories of my grandparents rose bush in their front yard. This is also another great area of Houston that is a primary tool for Houston portrait photographers. You can usually find someone doing a photo shoot on the grounds. The Asian gazebo is perfect for pictures and to get away from the sun. Many people use the grounds for group yoga or work out boot camps. It's small compared to the rest of Hermann and it gets locked up at night, but it's usually not as crowded. You can also find an array of busts and statues, not sure what their connection to the park is. The Garden Center building has Garden Society meetings and parties and it can be rented for parties or small weddings. read more

THIS IS OFFICIALLY MY FAVORITE PARK EVER. Sorry, Balboa Park San Diego. This place is so lovely. Hermann Park in general is super cool, but this place is the best. When you walk in from the main gate, there is a lovely pool/fountain right up front, and a tiered fountain at the other side. The grass is so green and well maintained, and there is a STUNNING garden with ALL the things: citrus trees (the blossoms smell amazing), kale, rainbow chard, all the herbs, carrots, you name it--they have it! There is also a ring of rose covered arches, which are just perfect. They were a little young, so it would be great to see them in a few months/years! All in all, this is my happy place and I wish I wasn't 1400 miles away. read more

If you work in the Museum district or medical center its a great place to bring a lunch. Plenty of picnic tables and benches. Bring a sandwich and get away from the computer and office for an hour. Fresh air, flowers and several cool statues. A great little hidden gem. read more

We heard the new park had opened, so we came to see what the fuss was all about. Centennial Park is a fantastic addition to Houston's recreational space. The most notable feature is the large hill with the spiral sidewalk to the top. Although it's not a massive hill, any elevation change gives you a great view of the surrounding park area. The former rose garden has been incorporated into the grounds and a great place to stroll the dirt pathways. It reminded me a lot of the parks in Paris. But beware, rain had already carved out their own paths in the dirt, so there are a few uneven spots. There's also a community garden there you can see vegetables grown up close. When you get tired, just relax on a bench till you're ready to keep going. Near the community center/restrooms, there's this huge open area I can see many weddings taking place. Overall this park is a lovely place for a stroll hand in hand with your sweetheart, snapping some pictures, and for a little people watching. read more

City of Houston did an amazing job renovating the garden area. This was the first time we have been in 2015 and during these past few days we definitely wanted to get out and check out the newly designed garden area. Just amazing. The gardens are still in the growth phase but still provide an abundance of smells and colors to entice the senses! Hermann Park just got better. There are two separate experiences to choose from: go to the park or lounge in the garden, Wonderful concept. The size of the garden doesn't allow for crowding, which was the best aspect for me. We had a picnic here one Sunday afternoon when the weather was perfect! We laid our blanket out near the long rectangular pool/fountain thingy. It was such a pretty day . . . there were kids flying kites behind us, so many people walking their doggies and kiddos dancing around the edge of the pool! We did talk odds for which kid would end up wet in the water first ;) This is a totally free date to share with someone you love! Houston has such lovely parks, get outside and enjoy them! read more

This park is Southern Californian approved! If all parks were like Hermann Park, we just might be an overall better community of humans! What more can you ask for? Located in the hustle and bustle of the Houston Zoo area, if you can get yourself a parking spot nearby or in a close-ish parking garage, you're good to go! It's expansive, so large that a train runs around it with stops along the way to hop on and off of, although you can just ride it around the entire railway for fun =] ($3 a ride and there's an all day $6 pass available for all the stopping and going one might do throughout their day in the park!) Little cafe located next to the Train station, it seemed quaint and likable! Beautiful, lush green grass, trees, and other aesthetically pleasing plant-life furbish the entire park, which is great to be surrounded by no matter what activity you find yourself partaking in! There's a lake for paddle-boating in and fishing out of! Fountains are gorgeous and refreshing to boot! Perfect for the hot weather I'm sure the Houston residents are accustomed to! The children's play area offers a lot of diversity of play! My 3 year old loves the play structures and the see-saw! Hermann also has a water-play area (splash zone!) for keeping the kiddos busy and cooled down during the less-than temperate times of year. Tons of picnic tables and benches for snacking and resting! One awesome park to truly make a day out of! Hopefully the Kite Festival I attended while out visiting my sister becomes an annual tradition, as it was a great use of the enormous amount of grassy and hilly space and was a lovely coming together of cultures and, of course, kites! read more

So beautiful here! Great place to walk around and it's very aesthetically pleasing. The center of the main area is all grass and throughout the perimeter of the garden are different sections (one area, for example, is sectioned off for fruits and another area sectioned off for sitting) A great spot to hang out and relax. Since the garden is still new, a lot of the plants are still in the early stages of growth. Despite that, the area is still pretty! There's a walking area on either side of the main lawn, and you can tell they plan to grow vines to cover the walkway. I can't wait until the plants grow in because I'm sure it's going to look even more amazing! Definitely plan on visiting again. read more

Great place to take a break from the busy city and just enjoy flowers. The garden features a wide range of roses with many hybrid teas, but also a good number of floribundas. There are also culinary and pot pouri demonstration gardens and a sculpture collection. While most people don't think so much about the role of China in the history of Houston, the garden includes the Pagoda donated by the city of Taipei, Taiwan, as well as a stone commemorating the Chinese workers who built half of the first transcontinental railroad and the recent addition of a statue of Confuscius donated by the Peoples Republic of China. There are also statues commemorate Ghandi, Martin Luther King and Bolivar. All in all, a great place to have in the city and best of all, it is free. read more

The Garden is closed and going under major renovations until Fall 2014. I was so excited to go and visit but I was met by a pile of rubble. Good thing the museum of natural science was right next door and we got to enjoy a free day and ending up having a good time after all. read more

This huge park was really nice to walk through. Love the long fountain and statue of Sam Houston in the front. There's also a train ride through the park. We did not have time to try that but that is something I would do, if I were to visit again. Great for families and pets! read more

This beautiful location is right across the street from the HMNS and Herman Park. If you like flowers and nature then you will love this place. You can see a large variety of roses that put a wonderful sent in the air. Perfect place to visit if you want to relax and get some sun and just lets kids enjoy nature or spend some outdoor time with a significant other. read more

This park is so enjoyable! Impressively quiet for it being right in the middle of Houston. The moment I stepped in this park I was in awe! I visited on opening day, and was really impressed with the vision. It wasn't complete; there's a lot in development and there are no flowers in bloom, but it's going to be gorgeous when it's complete. There's a reflection pool, a "mound" with a spiral path up to the top and a "waterfall" that comes down the mound. Despite the construction, it's still a nice place to stroll around and relax. read more
