I've ordered cookies and cakes. Cookies were mediocre, cakes were good. However, they have horrible customer service. It gets really frustrating to work with their team. They don't call back or reply on timely manner to emails. You have to constantly call and get put on hold forever. This 1 star is based off of the key lime pie I bought for a party this weekend. I was in the neighborhood, and decided to pick something up for a party I was going to. I saw there was key lime pie on the menu, so decided to get one, as it is my favorite dessert ever! When I cut into it at the party, I was immediately disappointed I had purchased it before ever even tasting it. It was filled with bright neon green jelly like goo. It was absolutely artificially flavored and colored. It tasted like the cheap pie filling you can buy in a can at a grocery store (I know because I made the mistake of buying a can one day. Gross!). Even the beautiful meringue that topped the pie tasted horrible. It had a weird dense marshmallow consistency instead of light fluffy meringue. I ate one bite and called it quits. I do not know about anything else in the bakery, but if they use cheap artificial ingredients for the pie, I can imagine they do the same for everything else. read more

I have used this bakery for every birthday celebration for the past four years. However, recently when I used them for my sons' 10th birthday party cake, I was not pleased. I ordered the 10 cake and when I picked it up, they didn't have a box big enough to fit the cake. I was turned off by that. I had to drive home with a half open, taped up box. Now I've never had a problem with the taste of the cakes they've made in the past but the fact that they advertise these huge, wonderful cakes, seems like they should have boxes to fit them properly. I was so stressed driving with that cake home because I was scared it would get ruined. It is also true about the service. While the women, mostly, have seemed nice, it usually takes them about five minutes or more to acknowledge that I'm even there. I've been there when it's just myself and they don't say anything. So usually I'll just peruse the cake books until someone says something which is also frustrating. I guess the customer service is a little lacking. I've also noticed that sometimes the products aren't that fresh and are melting, but again, as far as my ordered cakes have gone, the taste has never been an issue. Because I have another party coming up, I will most likely order from a different bakery and make sure that they have boxes that can stand for a huge cake. read more

This place was dirty. The coffee jugs have not been wiped down and are filthy. All the small tables to sit were unclean. Makes you wonder was was going on in the back where food was being prepared. read more

Most recently for Easter 2017 we bought a cheesecake and Strawberry Shortcake from Herman's Bakery. Both were delicious and enjoyed by all at the family get together...nothing short of perfection just like our past purchases from Herman's Bakery during the past 3 decades. read more

Ok so this is my first time writing a review , but I feel very compelled to do so. I am going to start from the beginning of the experience. I go in to pick up some cupcakes for my step daughters birthday. I find what I want, although there isn't much of a selection. I grab a candle, and I stand behind the one other person in line. There's multiple people working in there , however no one could help me ring up my stuff while they deal with the person in front of me's fiasco. The guy ordered a huge amount of cupcakes , and they brought them out and they were bright yellow. He mentions that he ordered gold. So they take them in the back , and claim they fixed them, bring them back out and they look exactly the same. The customer even said that he couldn't tell a difference. He's standing there waiting for them to correct his issue, and he mentions to me how patient I am because no one even bothered helping me seeing me stand there with my 5 month old in my car seat. After waiting and waiting , they finally help me. *Now this is what really, really, really pissed me off.* I'm waiting to sign my receipt and one of the employee asks another employee " do you smell that? " and the other girl says "do you see the baby ?" And I said , " my baby doesn't stink ". Now they had the nerve to say that right in front of me ??????? Like I don't understand how people can be so ignorant. I will never go there again. read more

I was at a party today and the cake was the greatest. I was told that it came from Herman's Bakery in Dundalk. OMG, not only was the decorations so awesome but the cake itself was delicious. I did not know that Herman's was still around. When I worked at Golden Ring Mall that was the only place we would buy our cakes and pastries. The Strawberry shortcake was to die for. So my younger brother moved to the area and it was also my boyfriends birthday, so we decided to go get a cake. We noticed the bakery when we went to the diner next door and decided to give it a shot. We would have been better off going to Giant, and I hate Giant's baked goods. We asked for a white cake with vanilla frosting, and we ended up with what I can only guess was supposed to be some sort of pound cake. It was dry, tasted like granulated sugar (you could taste the grittiness) and was almost entirely inedible. We also thought it was a regular round cake, but it was a bundt cake ring with a plastic piece in the middle, it really threw us off. My boyfriend also asked that we get him a donut, we picked up two and they were so bad he only ate one. They were dripping with the sugar sauce and dry. Just holding the bag I got sugar "glaze" all over my hand. On top of it all, the dry, old, gritty cake and two donuts cost almost $40.00. Next time I'm just going to get the cake at Safeway if I don't make it myself. read more

what can i say about the bakery.. they are really great.. when i was pregnant with my youngest son 15 yrs ago they made me a special bagel anytime i needed it.. and when it came time to have my daughter's wedding cake done they went beyond my expectations.. the date was changed 3 times.. so were the colors and it was a mess but Herman's took it all in stride.. and made the most beautiful wedding cake i have ever seen.. i thank them for making my daughter's wedding cake the dream that she always wanted.. and all the other goodies they make throughout the year are very yummy too... read more

Years ago I was having a party for a very important person who just opened a new business. The party was late in the evening and I made a cake at home for the party. I was running all over town looking for the little candy letters that you buy in grocery stores to decorate the cake. I could not find the colors I needed after I decorated the cake with a certain color icing. The time was running out to deliver the cake on time for the party. I thought to try something and went to Herman's Bakery to see if the may have some candy letters I could use. It was now about 8:45 pm and Herman's was just about to close. I went into the bakery and as luck would have it the owner was working late decorating a cake. I met Mrs. Adrian and explained to her what I was looking for in the stores and could not find. I was so amazed that she offered to do the writing in the color I needed professionally. I was so over joyed that this wonder kind consider lady was decorating my cake when I did not buy the cake from her store. I thanked her and left. I have been going to Herman's for years. I have always been so happy with the fresh wonderful treats they make. I have went into the bakery for my favorite treat which is a marshmallow filled pasty. Even if they have sold out they have taken time to go into the back and make just a few for me. This kind of customer service is the best of the best. Herman's is a family run business and they treat the customers as if they are family as well. This bakery goes above and beyond there call of regular duties to please the customer. There kindness and the gift of love within the giving was so great to me. Just last night again very late I was trying to find a small one person cake in chocolate with chocolate icing. I stopped at Herman's to see if I could find something special for someone very dear to me. I did not have time to call and order a tiny cake. I was again running behind. Mrs. Adrian again saved the day. She did not have any little cakes left in chocolate that late at night. She stopped decorating a cake she was working on and came out to the front of the store. I told her what I was looking to try and get. I told her I was sorry I did not call ahead and place and order. She went into the back and made me a little cake in chocolate with chocolate icing. Then she was so very kind and wrote on the little cake what I wanted it to say. I have never met a nicer person who in the blink of an eye drops everything she is doing to help me.
