Yesterday I had an appointment with Dana, who I hadn't had before, but I felt well taken care of and in experienced hands, just from her work on me. She did smooth, firm, planing strokes with her arms across my back and paid attention to my tense shoulders and neck, placing hot stones there in a way that was really soothing. Very happy with my last minute decision to come here. I've been coming here since at least 2021 and even though I've never had the same masseuse twice, I've had good experiences almost every time. I asked her to focus on my neck and back and she simply would not. All she was doing was rubbing my arms and legs with oil. So the third time I asked her to focus on my neck and back she covered my head with sheet and started digging her elbows into my upper back and then with the sheet over my head she turned my neck sideways to where I had to way to breathe and dug her elbow so deep into my neck bone I thought she was seriously going to injure me. When I asked her to uncover my head and just use her hands on my upper back and neck for the rest of the massage she finally placed her hands on my neck I realized why she had refused to touch me with her hands. Her nails were so jagged she nearly cut open my skin. I finally asked how her much time was left and told her she was cutting my skin with her nails and just asked her to stop early. I told the front desk but they said the manager wasn't in so I said I would pay and got out of there as fast as I could. It was honestly such a traumatizing experience I decided to leave my first yelp review of the year. I feel like I could cry it was just such a terrible experience. That said my friend has a massage at the same time and had decent massage. No major complaints. She was in the room with me so she heard the whole experience and was horrified for me after. This was my second massage at the spa - the first one I had was fantastic. Super disappointing. Still have not been reached out to by management over a week later... The most bizarre and worst massage I've ever had. I booked a 2 hour prenatal massage and there is no way my therapist was certified to do it. It was extremely rough and when I would tell her to go softer she would but only for 30 seconds before she would go back to deep tissue. I had been an avid and returning customer of Hermosa massage for over a year. I received very high quality Swedish/Thai Massages from Vicki. However, today I had a last minute cancellation 45 minutes before my 90 min massage with Vicki as she was not feeling well (after a 3 day party weekend??) The receptionist offered a different massage therapist, but was unwilling to provide any sort of incentive for the last minute cancellation like receiving a 90 min massage for one hour cost or just an extra free 15-20 minutes for the inconvenience). Lovely little spot. We were able to have 3 people come in at the same time, and all get the level of massages we wanted which was wonderful. I will however say, if you're looking for a lush spa experience this isn't it. We don't know the pricing in Hermosa but it seemed a bit steep at $160 plus tip when our hotel offered massages at $150 for the spa experience. Very disappointed. We have been loyal customers for about 3 years now. My partner and I have been there numerous times together, as well as referred many people there over the years. It's generally very good and easy to get appointments last minute. Recently though, I had an issue at one of the couples massages. We've always had a good to amazing experience there but that was AWEFUL.  I typically get deep tissue massage there, so I know that deep pressure typically applies a lot of pressure. But my therapist was doing way harder than comfortable and when I repeatedly told her "it hurts" or "that hurts", she did not listen and kept going. I was literally wincing and moving my body away from her to protect myself but she was not understanding the point. On top of that, she started giving me attitude when I'd ask her to not massage a certain place or massage in a different direction (she kept pushing towards my fingers instead of towards the heart and it was giving me nerve pain down the entire leg and arm. I was in tears by the end, and my partner was in the same room and can attest to her attitude and her pursuant to continue abusing me after I'd asked her to stop. When I got home, I had bruises all over my legs and arms, not to mention feeling tighter from trying to protect my body from her. See attached for pictures. None of these bruises were obviously there before the massage. The worst part of it is how they handled it. I emailed the business to let them know what happened. They replied, asking me to call them, so I did. The assistant manager answered, who apologized and told me they gave us a credit back on our account in the amount of $210 for the couples massage (which is what we paid that day minus the tips). So far good. Then, the owner calls me the next day to apologize and to send a gift card of $160 on top of the credit we already have to apologize. So far so good as well. THIS IS WHERE IT GETS BAD. A week later, once my bruises healed, we went in for a couple's massage. The massages were good. When we go to pay for the massage (thinking this massage should be covered by the $210 they placed on our account as we were told), they now tell us that there has been a misunderstanding and that all we had was the $160 gift card, no credit of $210. I told the receptionist that that's not what we were told, and she just kept saying we checked, and that there was a misunderstanding. WHAT MISUNDERSTANDING?! Why did they waste my time on the phone twice?! Why would I even have the number $210 in my head if they hadn't told me?! The owner specifically said that she was sending us the gift card of $160 ON TOP OF the credit because she wanted to make things right?! That was basically just the refund for my massage plus the tip. So basically nothing to actually "make it right." Very very disappointed. As an eldest immigrant daughter, I have never known true peace and relaxation until I came here. The deep tissue massage that Pat gave me has made it feel like I was reborn. Cherrie, the receptionist, is a kind and down-to-earth human who is always super accommodating We usually see Tina and June as they have consistently delivered. Both have powerful healing hands and will adjust the pressure as required. They went gentle on us the first few visits and adjusted the pressure for subsequent treatments as required. Love love love the location! It's just a few blocks from the beach so we usually head there for some extra zen time after the massage. Hi-Fi Espresso is right down the street and has become a regular post-massage treat for us. Try the 'bees knees'! I found Pat over a year ago, but for selfish reasons am only writing about my experience now. She's a hidden gem in Hermosa Beach and certainly someone to share. A 90 minute massage with Pat is part of my weekly self-care regimen. I get the Thai/deep tissue massage. Pat has a very special technique that I have not found in any other Thai massage. I've had ok massages but this last one was not a good experience. First, they leave the door open during your massage which they have done every time I go. I don't like this practice. Second, the massage therapist asked me to Venmo her tip. I told her I would do it when I got home. I hadn't done it within a few hours after due to running errands and they called me to tell me I hadn't left the tip yet and when would I be doing it. The CBD oil is 100% a MUST-HAVE. My body always feels rejuvenated and recovered like i just had 48 hours of sleep. Did not enjoy my experience here. I booked a deep tissue massage. Ambiance is not great. Walls are paper thin and I could hear the front receptionist making phone calls during the first half of my massage until finally they turned some music on which helped slightly. My masseuse seemed very inexperienced. A lot of just rubbing my skin instead of actually massaging and working through muscle tension. She also scraped me a few times with her nails and I had to tell her 3 different times the stones she was using were too hot. At the beginning she asked about focus areas and I said neck and shoulders and she spent the least amount of time there somehow. The pricing is reasonable, so I could forgive the ambiance not being great, but I walked away not feeling like any tension was released so unfortunately a waste for me. read more

My husband and I came in for a couples message. It was our first time there. I'm only giving 2 stars because my message was just ok. The flow of the message was kinda awkward, she would be messaging one area trying to get the knots out and then move to a completely different area of the body. It was quite confusing. She also used hot stones, which we didn't ask for and I got burned by the hot stones. I literally couldn't wait for it to be over. I never could really relax during the 90 min session. This may have been the most confusing massage I've ever received. Have you ever had one of those friends where you're driving in the car, and they let a song play for maybe 15 seconds, and then all of a sudden just switch it to the next song? And you just never get a chance to settle in and listen to anything in its entirety? That's exactly what this massage was. It was as if she would find a spot, start working on it, and then 10 seconds later think "ooh! squirrel!" and switch to an entirely different spot. There is no flow, no consistency, and the whole thing just felt really awkward. Also, I paid for a deep tissue massage, and there was zero pressure applied the entire time.
