Nice library (doesn't have the old book smell) within walking distance of huge Giant grocery store. The unique selling point of this library is the private study rooms and their well functioning A/C (lol). The rooms are available on a first come first serve basis where you can work distraction free for up to two hours if there's a line. In the middle of summer I get to go to this library wearing my favorite hoodies. I say this with no complaints; I breathe better and think clearer when there's air. Unfortunately the kids section is on the same level as the adults and the level of noise from screaming kids made it impossible to focus. Kids need their spaces in libraries, of course, but either on a separate floor or a walled off space. Not the kids or librarians fault - but open floor plans in libraries create this issue. read more

The review from 13 years ago still rings true: this place is incredibly noisy. I came on a Thursday morning in the summer to get some work done, and I understand that libraries do programming for children, especially in the summer (I have no problem with this), but there was no sort of noise control whatsoever. I mean children were literally SCREAMING for the entire time I was there, and I mean screaming. I think this place either has to get some serious soundproofing done on their child programming rooms or just literally control the children's volume a little more (I mean it's a library?) because the noise makes it absolutely impossible for some to focus. I had on noise cancelling headphones with white noise playing on Spotify and it still was not enough to cover the noise of the many screaming children. I stayed for about 20 minutes before giving up because there was no way I was going to be able to get any work done. Please control the noise levels in your library! read more

I so wanted to give this place 4 stars. Overall this is a nice library still even after its been in the neighborhood for the past decade or two. There's actually a decent amount of parking here in the lot or on the street. The library is clean and well maintained. But there's a but...so here are my issues. Granted it might of been just the day I went there. The noise, granted school was out, and I guess I hit the prime time of young kids reading time, because there was lots of activity from the 4 and under crowd, filled with a few meltdowns. There didn't seem to be a lot of space to sit, I came to work. It was my telework day but due to some other issues at my place I needed to vacate, and I thought the library would be a good option (I only stayed for an hour). They have little cubby areas where its first come first serve. I got to the library an hour after they opened and they were all occupied. Granted there was a 2 hour limit on these rooms and clearly that limit wasn't enforced and I just really didn't want to be that person to kick someone out of that space. On the plus side they have wifi. I doubt I'd try my luck again teleworking from here due to the noise, it was rather distracting. But overall still a nice library. read more

Loudoun County Public Library - Cascades - Libraries Near Me - Sterling, Virginia

Came here on a sunday and it was super quick and easy to find a table that 1) had an outlet near by and 2) had space to accommodate 2 people with their laptops, textbooks, and notebooks. On Sundays they are open from 1-5pm which is the perfect time frame to study within if you think about it. You can wake up, eat breakfast, do your morning errands and then grab a quick lunch and then get some studying done and make it home in time before dinner. It's perfect! They also host a lot of great events for the community! read more

The first time here was to use their printing and I was able to do so without having to sign up for a library card or membership. They gave me a guest pass and I was able to print what I needed and went on my way. I'm here almost everyday as I prepare for my CPA exams. I used to prefer other libraries over this one until I saw the abundance of quiet study rooms they have (8 available, 4 times as much as Ashburn). I've been able to get more studying done here without others (mostly staff members) bothering me about silly administrative crap. read more

It's a library...as far a I can recall from when I was a child, I was raised properly to respect the fact that people come here to read, concentrate and study and one must RESPECT that!!! Parents don't seem to teach their kids properly these days and since they don't, then the library should enforce those rules! Oh...and there are some adults that are just as bad as the kids in terms of how loud they talk and obviously they were not taught correctly either! PLEASE!!! people, when you are at the library... Loudoun County Public Library - Cascades - Libraries Near Me - Sterling, Virginia

So so so so SO noisy. Hardly any private study rooms-- the ones that do exist seem to always occupied from 10am to close. Really sad. I treck all the way to Reston to study now. Cascades is just awful in comparison... but I guess that's what happens when you only seem to want to cater to those persons first grade and below. I simply cannot concentrate here and I feel badly for the rest of my community (especially those w/o transportation) having to go here--- also, Cascades wifi is super temperamental. I never know what to expect in terms of connection. Last point: Why are group meeting rooms not able to be reserved online? This paper form nonsense is pretty archaic, guys. read more

This library reeks of 80s awesomness. You feel like you've stepped into a time machine. All I'm missing is a can of RC cola, a pair of 80s leggings and my cassette player. There are a lot of open spaces, and some clear glass individual study rooms (feels like a telephone book). If you want to use a study room for a group, you will have to rent them. Parking and accessibility are great. read more

This is my home library and I've been going here since I was a little girl. I appreciate that the library is generally quiet and I don't mind a little bit of noise but the other reviews are correct in saying that it's not a silent library. Sometimes I think it's from the kids that seem to always be there and the study sessions that go on between adults and kids and groups of high schoolers. If you are lucky, you can snag a small private room, but there are only a few and seem to be taken from open to close. Cascades has free wifi, I've never had a problem with speed or connection. They have wonderful kids programs for the 8 and under crowd, anything over that and the library becomes 'uncool'. Great place to go and many people don't realize that most libraries are not this big or well-used. read more

What a great library. We love the location, they have toys and great selection of books for babies and toddlers. The story times are fun and interactive with awesome high energy teachers! My only complaint is the room they have story time in. It's very small. Most times the kids have no place to dance and get wiggles out, families are forced to join in from outside the room, meanwhile the larger room is empty. I'm not sure why this is. We still love this library and will continue to visit on days sterling doesn't have anything going on. read more

how could anyone complain about this place? the cascades library is such a safe and incredible place, and has served me from childhood to my teen years and now as an adult. their book selection is spot-on, and i love the events they hold. i'm always grateful when i'm able to attend any of the wide variety of events that take place (most recently, i attended a mood painting class, which was really well done--all materials were provided and it was a super relaxing time). the staff are friendly and help with questions, and i appreciate that the books i put on hold always come throgh pretty quickly (i.e. when i ask to have them transferred from other branches in loudoun county). read more

Very nice library - great selection of movies and books, friendly staff, lots of different areas to study (from small individual cubicles to armchairs). But I do agree with the reviewer who commented that the noise level is a bit out of control for a library and more than once I hoped the staff would point out the "Quiet Please" signs posted around. I mean, you get it all at this library: from the group of friends who talk as if they're at a loud coffee shop to the woman hiding somewhere in the back and letting out gas so loudly that you wonder if she's deaf. read more

Love, love, love this library. Friendly staff + great options for kids and adults alike! The only negative thing I would say is the crowd that brings their kids to classes can get loud. Storytime is only for kids; it's not a time for adults to engage in social conversations while the class is in session. I understand the library is probably trying their best to tackle this, but there needs to be a sign up and housekeeping rules need to be announced before the class starts, so everyone can equally enjoy the wonderful classes they have. read more

This is the best library - they have longer hours (open Monday through Sunday), friendly staff, a great selection of books and videos that you can reserve online and they will have them waiting for you, interesting events and kids' programs, volunteer opportunities for teens. This is a wonderful library! A great selection of books and DVDs and a great place for the kids! Rust library is nice too, but I found the staff-particularly the teen librarian (I think her name is Kathleen) to be unhelpful, unfriendly, and downright rude! Would it be too much to ask for a teen librarian to like teens? Anyway, I've been coming to Cascades for a while now and have always found the staff to be wonderful-very helpful and friendly. Definitely has my vote for being the best library in Loudoun County! read more

I love this library! They have really great morning story times (musical story time too) for babies and toddler. My son just loves it. There are 3 librarians that do the story times and I love all of them. They do a fantastic job and they are so enthusiastic each time. TOTALLY AGREE with the fact that this place is EXTREMELY NOISY. When I 1st moved out here I could not believe it. I kept looking at the staff with raised eyebrows, twice even asked "Um, isn't this a library? Shouldn't the noise level be quiet?" They looked at me as if I were a spotted unicorn. The eating is out of control, too. I've seen Tupperware. I've heard teeth crunching into foods. The kids (all ages) are out of control, esp. the children's section during the a.m. Loud music like Romper Room/Sesame Street. The library today seems more of a place for people to get free WiFi, not study or read books. I miss my childhood library vibes when librarians "shushed" us and there was no WiFi heads. read more

the only good library in the loudoun county system. ashburn, sterling etc are jokes and have no selection. this one does have a decent (though not great) fiction and non-fiction section. has a decent selection of blu-ray, dvd and some cds. only complaint is that it always seems to be packed during the day. that's probably because the other libraries suck in loudoun county. read more
