I used Hernia movers 3 years ago to unload a U-Haul when I moved to WI - no issues. The 3 guys were on time, nice and professional. I decided to use them again when it came time to move out and load up my U-Haul to move across the country again (they were aware we had a long drive ahead of us with everything). Again the 3 guys were on time, nice, and professional. They were fast too! The cost was $248/hour (!!) for a weekday this time around (closer to $150/hour 3 years ago - no obvious increase in work effort or value) and it took 5 hours - about $1300 all in, which is wild. I rented about 30 blankets from U-Haul to protect furniture and also purchased plastic coverings designed for certain pieces. Upon arriving at my new home, I found that every piece of wood (real wood, not particle board) furniture was chipped or scratched or dirty - mostly all of the above. They didn't use most of the blankets or any of the plastic coverings. I'm very disappointed with the quality of packing the truck despite the tools they were given. Note that every box I packed myself and nothing is broken so far in my unpacking. So it wasn't the truck or other packing concerns. read more

I hired Hernia Movers to unload a 16' PODS container. 2 gentleman (Craig and Lucas) showed up right on schedule and did a phenomenal job. They unloaded the PODS container in about 2 hours. This was about 2 bed rooms, 1500sqft worth of stuff and up a flight of stairs to an apartment. Total cost was $455 @ $188/hr + transit time. Absolutely excellent. One year ago, I had an indescribably horrible experience moving with a U-Haul and a couple of teen-aged U-Haul "moving helpers." This time, I booked Hernia Movers well in advance. I didn't have an exact address for my destination at the time, but Hernia Movers was calm and flexible about that. They explained how they work, the pricing, what's covered by their insurance, estimated the time, everything. Clear, straightforward, calm. The day of the move, Alex and Kyle were punctual, polite, cool, calm, collected, and incredibly fast, even though they charge by the hour. Really shockingly fast. They did not waste one second, they did not damage any item, they did not damage either the old or the new apartment in any way. Nothing phased them. Headboard needs to be removed from the bed? Boom, instantly done, no damage, no screws lost. Every single thing like clockwork. A well oiled machine. They placed all furniture where I wanted it in the new apartment, placed every box in the appropriate room based upon the label, they just did everything right, start to finish, and I didn't have to say a word. Last week I reached out to several moving Co.s to get quotes and need to move quickly, and less than a mile away.Talked to Max, who was extremely helpful and explained costs with full disclosure. One company never called back and another had a rediculously high quote. Set up appointment with Hernia Movers. They were at the house at the exact time scheduled! And you couldn't find two nicer young men. Very polite, careful, and even moved other furniture in the house, that was staying! They were in and done promptly. We used Hernia to unpack a moving pod when I first got to Milwaukee. They were super flexible with timing and were able to come a day earlier than planned when my pod arrived early. The guys were very nice and professional and worked super fast! They had everything unloaded in under 2 hours and absolutely nothing was damaged. Very pleased with this company (and also not having to move things myself). I did appreciate that I didn't have to pay extra for stairs or moving specific items like a couch (I really hate itemizing things) so the flat rate was really nice. I thought it was a bit odd to charge for travel time to and from their main center but it wasn't very much more and I don't know how movers price things very well, so it wasn't a big sticking point for me. It was also really nice that they didn't have a minimum - this was a smaller move so a $400 minimum would have been kind of crazy for me. These folks are great. They got back to me pretty promptly after I filled out a form on their website. Jesse and Bill helped me unload a u-box for an out of state move. They worked really quickly, finishing even quicker than the estimated time. They were totally fine taking precautions for Covid, wearing masks indoors etc. Jesse even had his own hand sanitizer that he used before doing paperwork at the end. A HUGE thank you to the guys that helped my family on our recent move. My happiness started when I called to check on availability; the person on the phone was polite, professional, and asked super helpful questions to get us set for the move. I was quoted an amount that was more than I had planned, but was ready to pay for the 6 or 7 hours it would take to get the job done. Because really, who likes moving?? And after all the times I've moved, I was paying for the help. My Friends are amazing!!! But friends don't help friends move. Unless you're 20 something and then you just don't know any better nor can you afford movers. Moving day arrives, so we were well prepared and had boxes and furniture ready to load. Well mostly. You know how it is. You THINK you're packed, but them you open a cabinet or drawer and suddenly you have 3 more boxes to pack!!! GAAAHHHHH!!!! Sorry, I digress. So yeah, we were wanting to minimize the time we would have to pay for our movers. Then the three guy crew showed up. And we looked at each other with an "Ohhhhhhhkaaaayyyyyy.... " cause honestly they didn't look like much. I think one was not much bigger then Mom and was about 150 lbs soaking wet. But!!! they hauled a** with the boxes and furniture. All while being careful and we had zero damage to house (on both ends of the trip) nor furniture. They were polite and asked questions but were never overly "friendly" or intrusive. I had used them in the past to move 3 times. This last time was a disaster. Max is who I talked to. Asked me a few questions on what I needed to move such as furniture, etc. gave me an estimate over the phone, no home visit or recommendations on box size, etc. They sent 3 new hires to move me. College kids They did not use a Dolly or ramp. Left the job without completing the job. Left 2 large area rugs and other containers. Max said they didn't take the rugs because I didn't tell them to. Said they don't use a Dolly because it slows down the process too much. Their inexperience with the lack of direction cost me 2 times as much to Move as I was originally quoted. When I asked about an email or instructions on how to prepare for a move, Max said, he couldn't spend an hour on the phone telling people how to prepare to move. Then he insisted, they did have a Dolly? Bait and switch and lots of backpedaling. This is a firm that has been around for awhile. Then, after he acknowledged that they left the 2 rugs, he said he was doing me a favor by sending them out to pick them up. He was so rude and quite condescending. Don't know if they recently have new owners? It was very upsetting and cost me a lot of extra money, plus stress. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Very bad!!! read more

Our fourth move with Hernia Movers went beautifully! Trevor and his crew worked so hard, without complaint. I had ordered 3 wardrobes, but needed more. He relayed that to the company and the extras were delivered right away. Our tables all have glass tops and each piece of glass was carefully wrapped and arrived in Illinois without a chip! Unfortunately I had a bad experience with Hernia Movers. I chose them based on a referral, so I was very surprised when it turned out to be a bad move. The 2 guys showed up on time and were super friendly, but from the beginning it was apparent that they weren't going to be careful with my possessions. I must have told them 6 times that I just bought my living room furniture, and can they please take care of it, but they were slinging it around uncovered like it was junk. Lo and behold, it showed up at the other end with some deep gouges in it along with some nicks. To make matters worse, what was probably a 3 hour move ended up being a 5 hour move, as their motivation and speed started slowing down near the end. In the end, I paid over $700 to have a couple guys slowly and methodically gouge my custom walnut furniture, ding up picture frames, pull veneer off of some speakers, and poke a hole in my pillow top mattress. I understand that things happen, but with a little care it wouldn't have. They've promised to repair the furniture and mattress, but after 3 weeks of slow callbacks and staying home for repairmen, I have a half-repaired TV stand and the feeling that I'm being strung along. I have been wary of trying local moving companies (due to the obvious horror stories out there). Recently moved from one apartment to another with a decent amount of furniture and used Hernia movers. I decided to give this company a shot due to the reviews here, and most movers are pretty similarly priced. I was able to get a quote and book over email which was nice, and the movers came a bit earlier than their stated time (fine by me!). Sam and Jackson were kind, careful, while still being quick. They came well prepared with all the right equipment to move bigger furniture much safer and easier than I would have. There was a small mix up in hourly rate that I noticed after the move, but I contacted David in the office who cleared this up same day which I appreciated. The reality of moving is that no one likes it. You get all excited about being in a new place, but actually moving really sucks. Moving with Hernia made the whole experience a hundred times better. I didn't even need a drink after it was over (but I did anyways). I would definitely recommend Hernia for anyone moving in Milwaukee. From beginning to end, the team was professional and very helpful. What really stood out to me was that they charge by the hour. As someone who moved from the East Side to Downtown (less than 3 miles), this was perfect for me. A few other things that I really liked: - They were responsive! All my emails, including the initial quote request, were responded to within two business days. - After I requested a quote, they did not overwhelm me with calls and emails asking if I was interested, or when I'd be scheduling my move. - On the day of the move, I was given ample notice that the team was running a bit behind and then was updated when they were on their way. - The movers were incredibly quick! It took a bit to move out of my old apartment (mostly due to the fact that the elevator is smaller than a closet), but they moved me into my new apartment in less than an hour!!! - My items were unloaded according to room, and everything was handled with care. This was an interesting experience. I hired Hernia Movers to move my apartment contents one floor up, a pretty easy job. I was in town for 48 hours to make the move. Things got off to a rough start. In addition to being 30 minutes late (I had to call to ask where the movers were), the lead guy could not have been more hostile. I asked him why they were 30 minutes late and he *yelled* at me and told me to "drop my attitude" or they would be happy to leave. I asked if they would like to come in and see the apartment to see what was left to move and he told me "to calm down and let them do their job or they would be happy to leave." I asked if we could start over by asking his name (Jeremy) and tried to get him to calm down. As a single woman, I was actually very scared. He knew he had me in a vulnerable position of needing the service and if he bullied me enough he knew I would be trapped. I went to my apartment that I was moving into and broke down in tears. I was scared and already stressed about my move. I wasn't sure what to do. Luckily, the two other movers - Will and Marquon (spelling?) - were VERY kind. They immediately came up and apologized for his behavior and tried to kindly help out the rest of the move. These two saved the move and did a fantastic job; it was unfortunate that their colleague completely sacrificed the whole experience with his misogynistic ways. Jeremy (the scary bully in the story) hesitantly apologized at the end. The move took less than two hours and they didn't break a single thing. I wish it had started off better and that Hernia would have sent someone more professional. I would actually use them again but would specifically request not to have Jeremy move because I felt unsafe. read more

Hire these people. They moved my whole house full of stuff. They did the job for the price they quoted in the time they estimated. I like it that they have employees and not temp workers. That means they get benefits. They were efficient and careful with the stuff that did not get packed well. The only small thing that happened was a broken drawer from a small cabinet. The first time we used Hernia we were impressed on how professional, efficient and speedy the crew had been for our move. Even though the rates went up, we decided to hire Hernia again for our move in August; this time it was the opposite experience. The day started off wrong and continued to go downhill. The crew was late by 30 minutes - we called their office to get an estimated time of arrival and the receptionist said they had just left the facility; we had to wait another 30 minutes before they showed up and they even tried to charge me based on the original time (even though receptionist confirmed they left 30 min late)! Contrary to the first move, we moved 90% of the boxes ourselves and all that was three rooms of furniture and 10 boxes. When the crew assessed the job, I heard nothing but complaints the entire time and doubts (e.g. "I don't think we are going to be able to get the couch out of here"). Throughout the process, crew members were lazy and continuously took breaks, including both coffee and smoking (only an hour into the job), this was unnerving since I'm paying for this time. Although we had done much more of the move (most boxes and all decorations/fragile items - entire kitchen & TVs), this move ended up taking the same amount of time. They also wrote down one rate and total charge which was signed but then went back to the office and charged a higher total. Finally, in terms of care- this team apparently didn't believe in pads and/or protecting the furniture as nearly every single piece of furniture was dinged or damaged in some manner. I spoke with Lance at the office and the only "reimbursement" provided was to come color in some of the dings in the wood (did not fix tears in leather, repair wood or pay for replacement). I will not be using them again and do not recommend them. read more

Have used this company several times prior to this last time and they had always done great work. NEVER AGAIN. LIARS & THIEVES Scheduling of my move with Bill went fine. Then moving day came. Arrived late at 8:40 am. Told me they would not move hot tub as scheduled because it was not disconnected. I proceeded to disconnect tub and when finished I let them know. They were not happy. I asked them to start in garage with boxes and they did exactly OPPOSITE of what I asked. They were very rude when asked any question. They knocked over boxes and bookshelves in my kids room, lost screws and bolts on 2 beds they dismantled. After packing for one hour, they went out to start hot tub move. They stood outside looking at it for an $180/hour and then came into my house at 10:42 am and said they were not moving hot tub and were heading to my new house. Half my house was still not packed. I asked them to take the rest of my packed items and furniture. They said NO and that they had scheduled a five hour move and they needed an hour to drive and two hours to unload. They had only spent an hour packing and my new house was 3 miles away. REALLY??? They had brought two trucks based on the size of my home and didn't even leave with one full. Upon calling the office I could not reach Bill who I had worked with for all my arrangements. I said the crew needed to come back and get the rest of the stuff. They told me they would not be coming back and that I needed to meet them at the new house to take delivery of my items. Lance (acting manager on that day) was obnoxious and verbally abusive and would not even discuss what his movers had left behind and the work they did not do. The movers left so much undone: outdoor dining set with six chairs and 3 tables, 40 boxes in basement (4 without tops that infuriated the movers somehow), 7 pieces of big artwork, huge outdoor grill, 4 bookcases, living room area rug, 4 kitchen chairs and kitchen table and more. I said I would not take delivery of my items they did have until they picked up the remainder. Lance said not only would they NOT get my other items, that I could not have the furniture of mine they did have unless I paid $500, and I could come to their offices to pick up my furniture. There were no other moving companies available on such short notice. I went to their office to talk to Hernia Movers and they would not even talk to me - Lance motioned to one of the men in my group to indicate he would talk to him but not me. Hernia Movers not only wasted a day of mine off work to move, but held my items hostage. I was forced to hire people off the street at $20/hour to help me move and go hire a U-Haul two days in a row to get the job done. I've spent over $1600 in bribe fees to get my stuff back and hiring strangers to help and moving trucks. I lost another day of work. I have pieces missing from the beds and they cannot be assembled so my children and I are sleeping on the floor. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND BEEN TREATED SO HORRIBLY by the entire staff of HERNIA MOVERS. The movers were rude, mean and disrespectful not to mention slow and unprofessional. It's sad to see this company lose respect in this community. They used to be such great movers! I used them often and recommended them to everyone I knew about how hard working they were. read more

We had the inconvenience of having to move twice in a short period of time. One move out of all of our belongings into storage at a short-term residence, then a move out of there three weeks later into our new home. Hernia Movers charges by the hour, and weekend rates are a bit higher than during the week. The timer starts from when the truck leaves their property to head to your address. They gave us a window of arrival time, sort of like the cable company does. Two young men arrived and were very efficient in moving our things out of our condo into the truck. Their mastery of packing items into every nook in the truck really put my Tetris skills to shame. The same two young men arrived three weeks later to move our stuff into our new home. We weren't able to get the move date we wanted for that trip, but we did get one a few days later. During both moves they were polite and quick, and everything went well. This is the first time I've hired professional movers, but I would have no qualms about hiring Hernia again. read more

This was my first time hiring movers and I'll never go back to moving myself after this awesome experience. I booked with Hernia on the recommendation of a friend, and they totally lived up to that recommendation. They showed up on-time, loaded my belongings much faster than I expected (I was out of my old place hours earlier than anticipated), and unloaded everything quickly too. They were very careful and respectful of my belongings (not one single item broken or damaged -- and I have a lot of bulky and fragile belongings!), and were careful to put everything in the right room. My new place has an awkward stairway, but they still managed to get everything up quickly and easily, with one exception. My couch didn't fit up the stairs at the new place, but I know they tried everything they could to get it up there and looked at alternate options (like the balcony) too. They were super professional about it (and handled my being upset over my couch very kindly and respectfully). The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is the booking procedure -- I filled out a form on the website and no one ever got back to me. I had to call to book. I don't mind calling, but it's bad practice to offer a web form if you don't actually check and respond. But the person who did take my call and book me was very polite and walked me through everything . So for friendly, respectful, fast and careful moving service, I highly recommend Hernia Movers and will be using them next time I move! read more

After moving to Milwaukee and not knowing a soul (or which moving companies are trustworthy), I booked Hernia movers, as they received many positive reviews on google and I saw their truck often in our neighborhood in the third ward. They were a little more pricey than my NYC move (but there are some things in NYC that are just cheaper than everywhere else due to competition), but well worth it. The two guys that moved us were fast (almost to the point where I was concerned for their health-- 4 heavy book boxes at once?!), friendly and trustworthy. Our furniture arrived in one piece (and we were concerned, as we have some more expensive pieces), and they had a strong grasp on furniture construction (they were able to disassemble and reassemble our captain's bed quickly and easily). Better than expected -- move from Milwaukee to Chicago burbs. After getting more than a few quotes ranging from outrageous to downright cheap, we went with not the cheapest, but based on the positive reviews and their reputation in Milwaukee chose Hernia. Turned out to be a great choice! The 3 man crew showed up on time, were quick, efficient, hard-working and most of all careful with all of our stuff paying particular attention to the more fragile or larger pieces. The lead guy always showed concern for his crew in making sure they could handle heavy items and through it all the crew kept a positive, motivated attitude, never slacking or wasting time.
