You can tell they care about both quality and customer experience. As for the food, it was outstanding. The doughnuts were soft, fluffy, and perfectly sweet without being overwhelming. The flavors tasted fresh and creative, and the texture was spot on. I also tried one of their savory options, and it was just as impressive. Pairing everything with their coffee made it even better. Hero Doughnut is a Birmingham staple that provides a cute environment and yummy eats. I visited the Trussville location today and it was a great experience. Service was very quick and they promptly greeted us upon arrival. I had a latte which I was reminded to visit more often for the coffee... very good! I got kids burger meals and the burger was ok. It seems like they maybe have changed the patty which was not that great. Of course we grabbed a white sprinkle doughnut to top it off and that was the perfect ending! read more

Still love the doughnuts but customer service has gone downhill substantially. The last 2 times we ordered online we didn't get what we ordered. On both occasions they substituted without asking what we wanted or even telling us. Last time when we went back to question it they actually had the apple cider doughnuts just the person filling the order didn't see them. The most recent time they marked it out on the order receipt but still didn't say anything. Next time my wife wants breakfast on Saturday morning will likely choose elsewhere. read more

Very friendly service and clean. You order upfront and they bring the food to you. We ordered a cheeseburger ranch cheese, fries, a soda and a doughnut and it was approximately $25. The burger patty is not very thick and not really much to the burger. My daughter, who loves cheeseburgers and considers herself an aficionado, said it was OK and tasted fresher Than a McDonald's burger, but wasn't anything special, to which I agreed. I'm not a doughnut fan due to my detest of going up a dress size, but it had to be done. I picked up a banana pudding doughnut. Usually doughnuts are heavy and doughy and I just feel like I ate a brick with mostly regret and not enough satisfaction. There was no regret this time and I almost ate the whole thing after I had already enjoyed those wonderful hash browns. With the crunchy chicken! Don't skimp out on that awesome chicken! The filling in this doughnut was generous and beautifully creamy. The banana flavor was fresh. It had a sugar crusted top that added a nice texture. Went to Hero Donuts this afternoon. The service? Fine. The food? Not bad. But the seating? A complete joke. You've got three options: Sit inside and freeze like you're in a walk-in fridge. Sit outside in the blazing sun with zero umbrellas. Hope you wore sunscreen! This wasn't my first rodeo with Hero. However , it was my first time at the newest Trussville location. The inside is really bright and inviting. I came to grab an early lunch PLUS some of their yummy donuts! The staff was very warm and helpful. I ordered the Hero Cheeseburger (lunch box for $10). I got crinkle cut fries as my side but there were at least 5 or 6 side options to pick from. Also different lunchbox meal options. I thought this was cool and reasonable. I enjoyed the burger. I hate I just didn't dine in because when I got back home , the burger wasn't as fresh but still tasty. As were the fries. I also had sweet tea which was good. If you like bread pudding ... their bread pudding donut is yummy as well as their caramel crisp donut. I enjoyed them both! I like this location. It's right there with Rodney Scott's bbq. The doughnuts were average at best. A lot of hype built into the branding and menu. Definitely higher price for what you actually get. I much rather get a doughnut from a local bakery. The wait at the speaker to order and the wait time at the window was definitely long considering I was the only one in line. We finally have a Hero Doughnuts in Trussville to save us from driving across town for there delicious food. This was my first time visiting this location and the place gives a cool vibe atmosphere. I've been wanting to try there banana pudding donut for quite some time and on my way home, I stopped by to purchase one. The employee behind the counter was welcoming. The price for 1 donut is $4.95 after tax which I understand the cost because the donut I had just melts in my mouth after one bite. I came here for a daddy-daughter date on Saturday morning. They have lots of offerings on their menu other than donuts such as burgers, loaded hashbrowns, and other things. But I had to try the donuts - and a cinnamon roll, since it's a Saturday special and I'm a sucker for them. The staff were real friendly and professional, as an FYI. The prices are a little higher than I'd like. The food was good. I liked the boston cream donut that I took back to my wife (that she kindly let me sample). The plain glazed donut was nothing special, but it was decent. The cinnamon roll was really good, though smaller than what I was expecting, especially for the price point. But my daughter definitely liked it too! Overall, I liked it and am glad they opened this location in Trussville, but the price point will keep it a 'treat yourself' option and not an 'everyday breakfast' location. read more

The food here is really good! I have been a long time customer but it is a bit expensive, so I don't get to eat here often. I always go with the OG vanilla doughnut with a side of loaded hashbrowns and a fruit cup. Hero has a lot of breakfast options. They offer a variety of doughnuts, different breakfast plates, breakfast sandwiches and burritos, kolaches and they even offer burgers and chicken sandwiches. Their variety is great if you are going with a group. They also have booths to eat in if you would like and everything is always very clean. One downside is every time I have been in, including the most recent time, they are always very busy. Wait times can be quite long and with the size of this particular location it can get very crowded. Due to this, I typically get my food to go. Though overall the food is great and if you have a little extra money and time I highly recommend Hero Doughnuts! read more

I ordered a kolachee that was completely cold and tasted like it wasn't fresh, a latte that was really hot and the lid kept coming off and spilling but the coffee was alright, and a glazed doughnut that was pretty good but also cold. I also was waiting there for 5 to 10 minutes. I won't be coming back here. read more

The donuts here are so good! I had a banana pudding one. It was huge. Tons of filling on the inside. It was delicious. Also messy. Lol These donuts aren't cheap. We got a dozen and it was like 35 bucks. But for once in awhile, we don't mind. I was happy to see that they actually offer breakfast and lunch in addition to donuts. We visited the new Trussville location at 4pm on a Monday. I was very impressed by their menu, very broad list of options, from donuts to burgers, chicken, French fries etc. We ordered 6 donuts, a kolache and ranch cheese fries. Blueberry donut was amazing! My kids liked the sprinkles and glazed ones. The kolache was ok, it has jalapeno on it and I'd never had a kolache before so I didn't know what to expect. I was a bit disappointed by the fries, they were $5.25 and the amount was so small, like a kids meal size fries. Overall, their service was great! Employees were friendly and the food tasted good, although a bit pricey. One thing to remember, they close at 5, so make sure you don't try to go for dinner. read more

We used drive thru service this morning. We were returning from a trip out of state. I wanted a good coffee and small breakfast. I ordered a Vanilla Latte-out of Vanilla, so changed to 14 ounce Hot Latte. My husband ordered the Kolache and 1/2 dozen glazed doughnuts. He also got an iced mocha latte 14 ounce size. I ordered the folded Egg bun. 1. Service. We paid $50 + tip at the window. Waited. Server #2 comes to window with no items. Says, "that'll be 4.68" My husband asks, "what?, we already paid" Server #2 says "sorry" walks away. Server #1 hands us 1/2 doz doughnuts. Walks away. We wait Server #3 hands us our folded Egg bun and kolache. We wait. She stares at us and says, "are you waiting on something" with a tone of irritation. We both reply, "coffees!" then server #4 hands her two coffees. We say thank you and drive away. 2. Food. My coffee is tiny. It was smooth just needed sugar. Which I added. Just entirely too small for $7. My folded Egg bun has a seasame seed bun (tasty) with the egg, cheese and (yuck) ketchup. I would have liked to have gotten an advanced warning about the ketchup on my egg sandwich. Lots of details on board about the folding of the egg-nothing about adding ketchup. Husband said kolache was standard and tasted microwaved. He also had a doughnut. Basic. His drink was good just needed sugar. Would not go back. Not terrible -but subpar at best. read more

I keep forgetting to take pictures when we visit. I guess I just get too excited for breakfast and donuts on a Sunday morning. We always take my stepson for donuts before church on Sundays, and we were so excited when Hero Doghnuts finally opened in Trussville. We had their donuts from their pop up shop and pepper place before, so we knew how delicious their donuts were. I've never been disappointed by one of their pastries. Their vanilla cream filled has got to be the best donut I've ever had. My husband really enjoys the Boston cream and the Reese's donuts. My stepson doesn't venture from his chocolate glazed donut, but he especially loves theirs. Not only are their donuts delicious, but their options for breakfast are great as well. I've had the loaded hash browns which have got to be one of my favorite breakfast dishes from any restaurant we've visited. And my husband is a huge fan of the Conecuh kolache. This will be our new Sunday breakfast spot for the foreseeable future. read more

I should have described how nice this new location looks. Sleek! A bold red wall showcasing pictures of their food catches your eye. Nice patio outside where you can sit and eat. So let's talk about how good the food is here. The hamburgers do not disappoint! My husband ordered the classic and added an extra patty with bacon. He loved the fresh bun and the meat is fresh. Their cracked sauce is low my husband's crack. He had it with his burger and fries. He also loves it with the nuggets. The super crunch chicken is very good. We had heard people rave about it before and I can clearly understand why. I saw one of the employees in the kitchen using a meat mallet to tenderize the chicken. It is well worth that extra step! I cannot rave enough about their crunchy slaw as it's one of my favorite items here. It is so crisp and refreshing. I want to order pints of it!! I also love their house salad with roasted turkey. Then there's those doughnuts that started it all. The brioche buns and doughnuts are just so so good! I absolutely love their pistachio doughnut. I've been here before and my experience was way better than this morning. The blonde girl with the soft vice just looked at me for what seemed like a minute before asking me what I ordered. All while a heavily tatted man, with glasses peaked behind the wall and saw that I was waiting but did nothing, I placed a take out order but my food was somehow cold, my hashbrowns were stiff and my chicken seem to be to very tough to chew. I've door dashed from the hero's downtown and my food was a way better quality then me physically picking it up. I should've went with my first mind after getting the feeling that I didn't belong. I had bought a 19 dollar Buffalo chicken sandwich that was DRENCHED with Buffalo sauce. It has the potential to be a good sandwich, the sandwich was just nothing but sauce. It also came with ranch fries but they somehow put cheese on them also. For that 19 dollar price it doesn't even come with a drink. I had the strawberry donut it was good MICROWAVED. We stopped into Hero Doughnuts after eating at Rodney Scott's BBQ next door. We are from Houston and were down visiting family and needed a treat for the hotel. We didn't expect the amazingness! We couldn't decide and wound up getting 6. O M G! That Banana crème and the fresh raspberry jam filled were our favorites but even the plain vanilla or chocolate frosted were wonderful. I'm sure it's the dough that makes them a step above just a donut. We even made a 2nd trip before we left B'ham. Now we are back in Houston and my husband is already missing that Banana Crème! Everyone loves donuts, including me, but you'll pay through the nose for your donut fix at Hero. The donuts are good, but certainly not worth the price they're charging. I've had better donuts many times. I believe I bought 6 donuts and paid about $20-$25 for them. Ridiculous! The coffee isn't good either. It's almost like an afterthought. Only 1 container of coffee, caffeinated. Packets of sugar, milk, and cream. I'll get my donut fix somewhere else. It's a 20 minute drive to Hoover from where I live, but Shipley's donuts are better and cheaper. read more

Our first visit to this restaurant. Clean and inviting space. Excellent customer service. Ordered donuts, latte and a breakfast sandwich. The vanilla latte was crafted perfectly. The made fresh breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese and chicken on a bun was delicious. This makes me want to come back to try chicken sandwich and burgers sometime.
