Diego and his team were timely, reliable, efficient, cost-competitive, friendly and personified great service. They have my highest recommendation. The good service started when I contacted them just a few days before our trip. At first, Diego said they did not have any sedans available. But a cancellation opened up a rental later that same day, he promptly emailed me to let me know. Once we were in Merida, he brought the car to our hotel (the Hyatt), patiently and efficiently explained the details of the rental agreement and answered all of our questions without any rush. His English is not absolutely fluent, but certainly more than good enough for our purposes. The vehicle performed fine. Upon the completion of the trip, back at the Hyatt, he returned to the hotel to pick it up. The only minor glitch we had was that the GPS system for the car didn't always work great, with a couple of problems along the way. (We thus used our Googlemaps GPS on our phones more often; it was better, though not perfect.) When I mentioned this to Diego, he took the charge off of our bill. I wasn't asking for this, but appreciated it nonetheless. Two other minor matters were that the website does not seem to have an English option, though Google Translate works pretty well on it, and that it wasn't immediately clear whether a rental request using the online form was actually sent out to Unirent (though they replied promptly, either that day or the next, obviating that difficulty.) But really, these are trifling items. I wouldn't hesitate to rent from Unirent again, and wholeheartedly recommend the company.

It wasn't the newest model, and they only had manual transmission at that moment but the car suited us just fine. We had it for 5 days. We were able to put a deposit down using a debit card, which was helpful as I was having issues with my credit card. They asked us to pay in cash at the end. A driver took us to the airport for a couple of dollars on our last day. The fee was on par with the larger US rental companies in the end. All in all, we felt looked after, which was important.

We have been fighting with Hertz for weeks and they refuse to return our deposit saying they already returned it, when they clearly have not. Intially they said there was an error, then that it was on its way, then that it had already been returned, and now that they released it on the end of the rental agreement. This place is a giant scam! Beware!

I showed up at the counter with a reservation already made and the pressure started immediately: if I didn't buy extra insurance for tires, rims, and windows, I would be personally liable for almost any damage. They made it sound like leaving without it was insane. That "extra coverage" nearly doubled the price I had already seen online. I refused. I cancelled on the spot and went to another company. This isn't a misunderstanding. It's bait-and-switch: they lure you in with a cheap "fully covered" rate, then change the rules at the desk to charge you twice as much. Other companies like Mex Rent a Car and Europcar show the real total up front. No last-minute shakedown. No fake "0% deductible" that vanishes the second you arrive. I felt scammed and cornered. We always returned our car at night to save 1 day rental. But this time we needed the car till late so we drove it to the airport before leaving Mérida. As the business hours indicate it opens at 7am. Our flight was departing at 8:10am. So we came to the main office at 6:35 am. (Which was even pushing) Of course no one is here except a security guy who knows nothing. He said we can leave the car and drop the key in their mail box, but how do we get to the terminal?!?! Not to mention we had my 75year old mother-in-law with us who walks slowly. So after checked in, there was an employee at the counter so we told him we brought the car here. His answer was we have to return it to the office. (Already 7:05am and still have to go through immigration.) He kept saying rudely "This is not a return location." How do we make it to our flight then? This company is a world wide company and should know how flights work, 24/7!!! We saw Avis already open when we drove by. The employee considered no deviation. So we paid the parking and just gave him the key, and told him to take care of it. When we got to the gate, they had already started boarding. We barely made it!! This is not the way to treat your most loyal customers. They used to give us a pass to leave the car at the terminal so why no more?!?!?! Just not acceptable. So we wanted all the people to know before you make a reservation with National here. Also last time we went to their office at ADO station on Calle 60, they were closed over 30 minutes before said office hours. Pretty much local way, but they really need to polish their business manner here. It was such an unnecessary stress to start our trip.
