Diego and his team were timely, reliable, efficient, cost-competitive, friendly and personified great service. They have my highest recommendation. The good service started when I contacted them just a few days before our trip. At first, Diego said they did not have any sedans available. But a cancellation opened up a rental later that same day, he promptly emailed me to let me know. Once we were in Merida, he brought the car to our hotel (the Hyatt), patiently and efficiently explained the details of the rental agreement and answered all of our questions without any rush. His English is not absolutely fluent, but certainly more than good enough for our purposes. The vehicle performed fine. Upon the completion of the trip, back at the Hyatt, he returned to the hotel to pick it up. The only minor glitch we had was that the GPS system for the car didn't always work great, with a couple of problems along the way. (We thus used our Googlemaps GPS on our phones more often; it was better, though not perfect.) When I mentioned this to Diego, he took the charge off of our bill. I wasn't asking for this, but appreciated it nonetheless. Two other minor matters were that the website does not seem to have an English option, though Google Translate works pretty well on it, and that it wasn't immediately clear whether a rental request using the online form was actually sent out to Unirent (though they replied promptly, either that day or the next, obviating that difficulty.) But really, these are trifling items. I wouldn't hesitate to rent from Unirent again, and wholeheartedly recommend the company.

Renting the car was not an issue. I presented my California licence, my credit card, and I was good to go. They took a deposit and the two-day payments, and they showed us to the car. The car was comfortable and ran well. In the two days we used it, we experienced no issues at all. Returning the car was as seamless as renting it. They did a quick inspection, and credited my deposit back to my credit card. The service rep was super friendly, professional, and efficient. I would recommend this place if you need a car while in the Merida area.

It wasn't the newest model, and they only had manual transmission at that moment but the car suited us just fine. We had it for 5 days. We were able to put a deposit down using a debit card, which was helpful as I was having issues with my credit card. They asked us to pay in cash at the end. A driver took us to the airport for a couple of dollars on our last day. The fee was on par with the larger US rental companies in the end. All in all, we felt looked after, which was important.

Wow, this is the first time I wished there was a lower than one star rating for a company…read more First off, the inevitable extra charges for insurance. I've rented plenty of vehicles in Merida and Cancun over the past few years and am aware of the extra charges normally added on to the listed cost and have always been able to take a letter from the credit card affirming that I'm covered and it's never been a problem. America Car Rental states in their policy that: All rental cars must have Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP). Each policy will be either included or purchasable from the rental company, or provided by your credit card company. So the letter provided by my card should have sufficed for the insurance portion. And it did, they waived about $70 for the CDW & TP, however they then charged me almost $400 for Liability insurance, even though it clearly states that it is included on the rental contract. I've yet to actually find any proof of coverage associated with the charge and am actively disputing it with the CC company now. Once we finally got to the part were I get a car I was taken outside and all was as expected until I tried to use the 12 volt plug to charge my phone and found it with no power. I pointed this out to the agent and asked if we could have another vehicle since I'd need the charging port for navigation on my visit. They insisted that all the cars had the port disabled to discourage smoking, however still let me try another car. This one did have a functioning port, however not enough batter to actually turn it over and run. On to a third vehicle, with a fully functioning 12 volt and battery, as it was getting dark the car was deemed acceptable and we went on our way. On the positive side, the car made it back, the ac worked, and it was able to communicate with the iPhone. Otherwise, it was a battle between the windshield wipers and the brakes to see who could produce the more abhorrent sound while producing the least possible impact on the job they were intended for. The tires, they weren't bald, but definitely in comb over territory and reminded me of the fact whenever the road even hinted of moisture. And, the rubber gasket for the trunk was falling off so every time we opened it we needed to reseat it in order to close properly. In short, you'd be better served by capturing and training a herd of local street dogs to pull you around in a sled than renting from America Car Rental.

We always returned our car at night to save 1 day rental. But this time we needed the car till late so we drove it to the airport before leaving Mérida. As the business hours indicate it opens at 7am. Our flight was departing at 8:10am. So we came to the main office at 6:35 am. (Which was even pushing) Of course no one is here except a security guy who knows nothing. He said we can leave the car and drop the key in their mail box, but how do we get to the terminal?!?! Not to mention we had my 75year old mother-in-law with us who walks slowly. So after checked in, there was an employee at the counter so we told him we brought the car here. His answer was we have to return it to the office. (Already 7:05am and still have to go through immigration.) He kept saying rudely "This is not a return location." How do we make it to our flight then? This company is a world wide company and should know how flights work, 24/7!!! We saw Avis already open when we drove by. The employee considered no deviation. So we paid the parking and just gave him the key, and told him to take care of it. When we got to the gate, they had already started boarding. We barely made it!! This is not the way to treat your most loyal customers. They used to give us a pass to leave the car at the terminal so why no more?!?!?! Just not acceptable. So we wanted all the people to know before you make a reservation with National here. Also last time we went to their office at ADO station on Calle 60, they were closed over 30 minutes before said office hours. Pretty much local way, but they really need to polish their business manner here. It was such an unnecessary stress to start our trip.
