When we got the car, they half-assed the inspection and told us not to worry about the damage already there. When we returned the car they said we made additional damage to the passenger side tire. I was extremely careful in my driving. They were blaming the previous damage on me. If I had known they employ these tactics then I would taken a detailed picture of the previous damage. They wouldn't let me leave and forced me to sign a form that said I made the damage. I relented because I would have missed my flight if I didn't sign. Never will I use this car rental company again. Highly unethical business. Now 3 MONTHS AFTER THE FACT, they finally send us a bill for 318 euros. They also did not send us before and after pictures for comparison, so its basically their word against mine. Horrible, Horrible company.

We used Autatlantis, which is, from other posts I've seen, the similar to other companies. Rates are cheap, but at a cost. We had a scratch the size of a pinky nail and they charged us $300 on the spot, and did not provide us with the papers needed to make a claim to our credit card afterwards. No estimate or rationale behind why a SMALL SCRATCH costs the same as a window replacement. We were in a hurry so we paid it, but noticed on our videos after having already paid that the scratch was there before we drove the car. It seems like they were looking for any way to get money out of damages. Horrible customer service didn't respond for weeks and isn't helpful. We asked for very specific documents that all other rental companies give us automatically so we can submit a claim. We'll probably end up paying for this out of pocket because of how lackluster their service has been. We've waited weeks. Worst experience I've ever had renting a car. (You may be fine if you are able to avoid their scrutiny, but it was ridiculous)

This is unsurprising streets are one way in Ponta Delgada and very, very narrow. We asked about FULL insurance, because of the narrow streets, and were told by Autatlantis that we had it. Everyone was so nice UNTIL the car was struck and we were told that we were NOT covered and presented with the bill. No one answered the phone, we had to take a cab to talk to someone at Autatlantis - twice. When we were upset, they became QUITE rude and aggressive and demanded we pay. I heard: "You have to pay! You have to pay!" just too many times. I have never been treated so badly by a car rental place - ever. The hotel desk clerk (both the day shift and night shift) of our four star hotel helped us a lot, and commented that it is their opinion that they are the WORST company on the island. I am out $350. Never again.

Because of general car rental recommendations from Azore travel blogs, we opted for full coverage (at what we thought was a reasonable price) when we made reservations- to minimize the deposit and avoid any potential complications. When our flight arrived, we tried calling Micauto to request to be picked up, but we had an issue with our international calling plan (no fault of Micauto), and ended up asking the helpful folks at the luggage pickup to make the call for us. A van arrived with a friendly driver in about 15 mins. Once we got to the business (about 10 mins. away) we were promptly assisted and given our rental car- a great smaller 4 door car which handled the roads well and still had room for some storage space. When it was time to leave Sao Miguel, we had a smooth car rental return. I am writing this review because, in addition to the car rental process going well, I really want to acknowledge the excellent customer service that this company demonstrated. When I returned back home and realized that I had left binoculars in the backseat of the car, I reached out to the company via What'sApp and the representative was able to locate my binoculars and hold onto them for a local friend of mine to pick up. My husband and I are looking forward to returning to the beauty of Sao Miguel and will certainly plan to rent from Micauto again!

We handled the vehicle well for the two days we rented it, there was absolutely no chance that we caused the rim scratches they claim were new. When we returned the car the employee showed us a tire cut and rim scratch on the front left tire, and told us 3 rims were damaged. He showed me a photo of pre-existing rim scratches but said that ours were in new spots. I asked to see when the photos were taken to determine how much time may have passed and he refused to show me the time stamp of the photo with the pre-existing damages to verify. Unfortunately we arrived around midnight, the employee did not take any photos or walk us around the vehicle or point out existing damages. We signed the paper work and he handed us the keys. We weren't allowed to leave without paying €450 and had a flight to catch. Will be disputing the charges. Use another car rental service, do not rent here at all costs

Damage on the wheel rim and the tire is shown on the photo I've taken prior to driving the rented vehicle (Dec 24th at 8-13 am local time - Azores); find pictures attached. Note - the rim damage as even noted on the original contract after I pointed it out to your rep! The invoice also charges me for baby seat, which was already prepaid at the counter on Dec 24th: find credit card payment proof attached At the very least in addition to a refund I expect a formal apology from the regional manager. Ideally I expect not to be charged for the original rental given the circumstances that transpired: it's your company representative's fault that I've driven away on torn tire. If this email is not responded to and refund for the amount charged for damages is issued within next 2 business days I will be forced to proceed as follows: Tell the story on the popular US/EU travel blog that I own and operate (157,000 subscribers) telling the story with pictures about renting a clearly unsafe vehicle Submit a complaint with European Car Rental Conciliation Service Submit a complaint with Direção-Geral do Consumidor (DGC) Submit a formal complaint to the US Attorney General. When we arrived on the morning of the tour the staff told us that ANC Azores Holidays cancelled our excursion-no explanation. They said they notified Get Our Guide but when I spoke to Get Our Guide they said they received no communication from the company. The said they couldn't rebook us on another excursion today or tomorrow. They never attempted to communicate with us. And basically said we don't know what to tell you. Completely unprofessional. Refused to refund us and told us to deal with Get Our Guide. Not helpful in trying to resolve the issue. Unfortunately they caused us to lose a day in country.
