Recently rented with Hertz, as a Gold Member. Picked up at the Denver Airport and drove to Aspen, had the car a total of less then 5 hours. Easy trip and drop off until the day after, I received my final receipt and saw a $199.02 "Smoking Clean Fee". This came as a shock since I don't smoke cigarettes, weed or any other substance. After contacting Hertz direct line, I was told that I'd need to speak to the actual location. With no answer to the phone, I went to the location to dispute in person. I spoke with Joe and Ashley. They brought the car up and claimed it "smelled strongly of weed." I didn't smell anything, but even at that, "smell" isn't legally something a cop can convict or prosecute on, so the fact that Hertz is using that as a valid claim to add a charge more than my rental is truly a treat. They then claimed there were photos of ash. I've attached the photos Hertz claims are these "ashes" and charges to this review. I KNOW I didn't smoke in that car and I KNOW I'll never be renting from Hertz again. I followed up with a complaint to the BBB, but renters beware. With "smell", it's their word against yours. Thankful that my Credit Card Company is able to mediate this transaction and get me my funds back, but disappointing that Hertz as a company, and at the Aspen location, find fulfillment in fraudulent charges toward customers. read more

Joe is the rudest Hertz employee I've ever encountered in my years of traveling. As a gold member and usual presidents circle member I'm used to having options. The first girl to help us behind the counter was kind, but I walked up on the tail end of a conversation with my fiancé where she was offering to allow him to switch out the SUV we were getting for another at a location on the way to the ski resort. Since it's his 40th birthday and we are jam packed I assumed I would just ask her to switch us to the other mid size all wheel or 4 wheel drive SUV on the lot. We walked back in and waited for her to finish with the customer she was helping only for Joe to walk up. The first question he asked was what the "issue" was ? We explained that we were going to ask about 4 or all wheel drive based on what we had seen on the lot. Joe's response was that 4 wheel drive would be $75 more a day, and reminded us that this is "Aspen" and they're in peak seasonality. He continued about prices for lift tickets and such in the area I'm assuming to demonstrate his knowledge. I tuned out for the rest of his rant, because my initial ask was going to be as simple as explaining that we were from California and I'd love to switch to the other option. Joe never asked another question. He just kept talking and checked the weather on his phone and told us we should be good to go. We then waited another 10 minutes for the tow truck towing a car to unblock our rental from the lot, which was frustrating since the Crv I wouldn't asked the woman for was unblocked the entire time. Rented a car in Denver and drove to Aspen. Car had mechanical problems. The Emergency Roadside assistance was useless, having been on hold for over half an hour. Called the local Aspen folks. Had to wait a bit for a callback, but they swapped the car out with no hassle or drama. read more

You may rent any car you like at Hertz in Aspen as long as it's an enormous, stupid gas guzzling suv. And the rental companies wonder why Uber and Lyft are hitting them in the shorts. Agents at the desk just shrug. Get thy act together and have all of the car classes listed as available at this location, not just the moronic ones. read more

When I went to pick up my Hertz car in Aspen CO, Amanda at the front desk noted it would be snowing for the next two days. She made a special trip (on a cold dark snowy night) to the far lot to get me car with all wheel drive so I would be safe in the snow (and warned me about the deer at night). I got there at 8 when they opened and no one was there. I called customer service and they couldn't get ahold of anyone. I waited 40 minutes for the guy to show up. I watched him ignore the ringing phone multiple times. Poor service. read more

I HATED MY EXPERIENCE WITH HERTZ. We are gold costumers, when i asked the man if there where any available cars we said no. He was rude, not helpful at all and honestly he should be fired because if you don't want to deal with people then don't be the one at costumer service. I decided to look for myself if there were cara available and in the webpage there seemed to be more than 30. I came back to show him and get an explanation but i just received more attitude, when i told him i would report him he laughed. This is NOT OK. Aspen Hertz - just say no. Rented a mercedes GL450, nail in tire 16 PSI had to pay triple A to repair, low oil and fluid lights on, no help from employees, manager "out" finally got a replacement cadillac which also had engine warning lights on. Both cars were dirty. My insurance agent said the manager is never there - sort of like the book Catch 22 - "you can see the manager but he's not here". Insurance agent recommended Enterprise for good service. If you like frustration and poor service go with Hertz. read more

Thought Hertz was a reputable car rental agency. Rented a car here at Aspen airport and when I returned it on the scheduled return date was told that their records show that oddly the car showed as already returned in a different state despite that not being the case, but they couldn't do anything about it I'd have to call when I got home. (They should have started an investigation into the rental but did nothing.) Then received an email that billed my credit card 600 dollars (my car rental was already prepaid) and showing the incorrect date and location of return as well as a 260.00 fuel charge. (I brought the car back full). Although this was an obvious mistake by Hertz, it required hours of my time on the phone and having to hold at least 15 mins each time before speaking to anybody who would then transfer me to someone else and I would spend an hour on the phone and then told to wait a week as someone will get back to me after investigating it. No one ever got back so I had to do the same thing a second and third time until I was told it was taken care of and reversed on my credit card. They didn't even have the decency to email me a corrected bill so I knew it was taken care of before wasting an hour of my time for a third phone call. NO MORE HERTZ BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER CARE OR THEY WOULDN'T MAKE THEIR CUSTOMERS WAIT ON HOLD FOREVER REGARDING BILLING. THEY WASTED SO MUCH OF MY TIME. read more

I've rented from Hertz many times and generally have had a good experience. However, my recent rental experience in Aspen was awful. The car category that I originally had reserved wasn't available. The guy behind the counter gave me an SUV instead that was very dirty inside and obviously hadn't been cleaned for awhile. When I asked what other cars were available, he was extremely rude and unhelpful. While I will continue using Hertz in other locations, I will never use their Aspen location again. I also told the concierge at the hotel where I was staying about my experience, and hopefully they will direct their customers to other rental agencies. read more
