I'm not usually a Hertz renter, but my regular car rental company doesn't have a desk here in Bismarck. I don't want to name names, but their name rhymes with Shmational. So here we are. I was a little worried after reading the reviews, but none of that happened to me. My one-way rental to Rapid City was ready when I arrived, there was no upsell to try to get me to buy any insurance (I'm covered through my Chase Sapphire card) and the car was as I reserved. I asked for a midsize, I got a Chevy Cruze. It's not my favorite vehicle but it was clean, functional, and efficient for fuel. The young lady who took care of my was pleasant, efficient, and prepared. My car cost what I reserved. It was what I reserved. Good work from Hertz today. read more

Do not rent from them. Problem 1-they mixed up my reservation and tried to charge me for 6 days when my rental was for 2. Problem 2- They tried to come after me for hail damage for the time that I rented. I was able to prove with weather reports and attorneys that the nearest hail was 190 miles away and my odometer only went 70 miles. Problem 3-they use a very fraudulent insurance business that tried to come after my insurance company and actually personally threatened me. It took 3 months and threatening legal action, but I won my case. If you rent from here take photos of your car before and after. Apparently, their corrupt insurance company "phishes" for possible weather interactions. I don't know how this is legal...but I am staying away from Hertz and this rental location!!! read more

If I could give a zero review, I would for this particular Hertz desk. I understand people try to do their best under difficult circumstances, weather delays, itinerary issues, traveling problems, I get that and it's not easy. I try to do my part with checking emotions and being understanding - I travel all the time. But I've never been fed the most amount of willful misinformation, incorrect answers, denial of employee behavior, and poor customer service from rude assistant management staff that talk over a person, not letting them finish a sentence (and then to have the her hang up on me was icing in the cake) than from this particular Hertz outlet. I was a loyal Hertz Goldmember and I'm going to have to swallow hard before I rent from them again. I recognize this particular outlet doesn't represent the company, but the issues I've had require corporate/online information gathering and I've found that to be incredibly difficult. No idea if all car rental agencies are this difficult to deal with when presented with these kind of issues, but I guess I'm going to find out now when I now rent from someone else. I have been renting at Hertz in Bismarck for several years. They are great. They offer a bottle of water with your rental. Quick, efficient and friendly. I've never had a bad experience and I rent from them several times a year. I've been able to get great cars, quick service, no up-sell and nice cars. Drop off is fast and easy and I get an email receipt very quickly. The bad reviews are old. Give these guys a try. Great service. Great cars. Good rates. read more

No issues with picking up the vehicle and returning it. However, there was an issue with returning our "hold" that was charged to our card and they absolutely refused to help us remedy the situation. The bank said that they hadn't released the funds yet, and Hertz says that they had. Landa Gunderson, the assistant manager, proved to be one of the most unprofessional, and downright rude, individuals I've ever had to work with. I am not joking when I say she REFUSED to help me nor did she offer any other courses of action. Totally unhelpful. read more

I reserved a Mazda 6 and they gave me a Toyota Highlander. I get annoyed with that... can't the reservation system these rental car places use be "high tech" enough that when I say I'm arriving at 1:30 p.m. and want a particular vehicle I get it? Who cares, honestly, in this situation because I was just tooling around the local area; however, it's pretty annoying when this happens and I'm driving 1000 miles in a week for work and have to fill up the tank 5 times more often because I've been forced into an SUV. Anyhow, this location was nice and small. The attendant was friendly and able to provide directions to my hotel without any issue. Given they aren't open first thing in the morning they use a drop-box system which seemed to work fine, although I had to call to get a copy of my receipt because one was never emailed. This is a minor annoyance when you need to turn in an expense report! read more

I asked about options to fix the challenge and they were totally unwilling to budge. I even gave them several possible options and the only answer I received was "no". No changing reservations. Just called and spoke to Landa regarding renting an SUV for a 10 day trip to ND/SD. I will be coming into town to run the Bismarck Marathon and then will be spending the next week or so to go see the sights (three national parks, Devil's Tower, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, etc.) with my wife and two year old. When we go on our trips we have a tendency to try and pack in as many places to see as possible! Anyway, this is our maiden voyage with the little guy on an airplane so we are trying to be as well prepared as possible...as if that is actually possible with a two year old. :) Anyway, Landa was great to talk with tonight. She researched all the various pricing options and found a great price for us especially considering we are picking up in Bismarck and dropping off in Rapid City. She also was able to tell me the differences between the SUV's they carry and which ones would be best for hauling around a running stroller with our luggage. She also offered some good tips on ordering size 7 diapers online (yes, he's off the charts at age two!) and having them delivered to the local Walmart for pick-up. I have called some of the stores in the area already and have found most places do not carry this bigger size in stock. Her helpful suggestion would be a way of getting the size we need. At 1pm, a local Hertz rep called to tell me that at the time I booked my reservation, they had just sold out and they no longer had a car for me. My wife and I were flying in to Bismarck because her mother had just passed away. The rep did not offer anything like saying if we have a cancellation, we will call you. You know what I got from her? I wish I could leave like 10 negative stars.....This is the worst Hertz Rental company I have ever rented wtih and I am a Hertz Gold Member and have rented with them nationwide. I was totally racially discriminated against at this location the desk clerk is not only rude she is full of hate...someone needs to give her a HUG. .., I made a reservation using my AAA membership online. This is the second time I have had this experience at this location and it will be my last. I will never rent with Hertz at this location again nor Sioux Falls same experience. same owner. I also contacted AAA to complain and the airport property manager. It is hard to believe that the airport allows this franchise to have an office in the airport they should be on the street corner or back parking lot so no one has to have this same experience as me.... It is 2016 and they are treating people this way...they are also using false information to try and prevent you from renting a car. Refused my debit card then they would not take my American Express until I made and entire different reservation. This is the WORST REMTAL PLACE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED...the lady at the counter was VERY RUDE NOT HELPFUL AND TO ME RACIST she made up a whole scenario of why she couldn't rent to me which didn't make sense advised she couldn't change my reservation from 3 days to 1 day so advised even though I explained why I needed it only 1 day instead of 3 am that I had to go all the way to watford she told me I better lyft or uber because she won't rent to me and she doesn't care how I get home it was 11pm at night had to spend $243 on lyft I think this woman needs to find another job customer service is NOT FOR HER she shared no empathy or anything because I feel she was being racist...a Caucasian couple comes up right behind me and rents to them with no issue I asked for a manager or anyone else I can speak to she was NO HELP!!!! This is the worst place to rent from and to also work for. Management is very rude to its employees and to its customers and very racist and they profile everyone. If you look like you might not have money they will make up some excuse and come up with a reason why they can't rent to you. If your a local person trying to rent with a debit card they will say they can't rent to you unless you have a flight itinerary. This is all not true. They can rent to anyone but they choose not to. I have worked for the company before and they were very rude to me and management was very unprofessional. The way management treated the customers along with other employees was completely unbelievable. You were also expected to work 8 hour shifts with no breaks and was told you can't eat or drink anything until 3 hours into your shift. Very bad place to work for and rent from. I went to enterprise to rent a car and they were very professional. Had outstanding customer service. Let me choose what car I got to drive for the course of my rental. And even let me rent with a debit card. I would give hertz a negative 10 star review if it let me. Save your time from the awful customer service at hertz and go rent from enterprise. read more

IF I COULD GIVE LESS THAN ONE STAR, I WOULD! I rented a reasonably priced vehicle from the Hertz Bismarck airport location. It ran great, no problems. When I reviewed my Visa card statement I saw a REVISED billing from Hertz. I contacted the manager in Bismarck who stated that they charged an additional $150 because they had to vacuum hair from a small 20 pound dog! I replied that this was a ridiculous charge as I had the vehicle for less than 10 days & the dog only rode with me part of the time. He claimed that they sent it to a detail shop to be cleaned which warranted the charge. I'm not buying that! A little 20 pound dog CANNOT shed enough in less than 10 days to warrant a $150 detail shop cleaning charge. Most rental car facilities pay some poor guy minimum wage to clean their vehicles after each rental use & this is probably the case with them as well. I feel totally ripped off!!!!!!!! I will NEVER again rent from Hertz in Bismarck, North Dakota & I advise others to use Enterprise, Budget or Avis when renting from the airport location! read more

I needed a rental for an insurance claim. They do not return my calls even after leaving messages over multiple days. When I finally am able to speak to a person they have no vehicles available at all. Courtney, the person answering the phone, when called the week before hand, wouldn't even answer whether they had an potential vehicles for the week that I inquired about. When she heard it was insurance related she would transfer me to another persons mailbox while I was talking mid sentence. Rude and incompetent. read more

I had a great customer service experience here, so I wanted to write to counter all the bad reviews. The bad: The rental counter closes on Saturdays at 9, but the computer permitted me to reserve for after midnight with no warning that there would be no car. (Also, be warned that "Aero Center," another location here that also says it's open 24hrs, is not an option unless you come by private plane.) For me, this was a minor inconvenience. For others, it could be awful. I think the problem is with the main Hertz site. The good: Hertz customer service at the 800 couldn't help me and wanted to double or triple my price to remake the reservation the next day. They suggested I ask at the counter. The woman was extremely helpful and worked very quickly. She matched my rate, except some tax differences, and gave me no trouble at all. She said she was on her way to call management about the late flight problem too. I had low expectations because other reviewers had bad service experiences, but my experience at the counter was great. read more
